This little book is a superb introduction to Marx's life and thought. Excellent for those who have not yet had time to delve more deeply into Marx's writings. Written by the Marxist humanist Ernst Fischer, who also wrote The Necessity of Art. It's a little paperback Pelican of 183 pages.
Marx's original works are not the easiest to interpret in both language and concept, and unfortunately this book does little to aid this. As such, while some parts are certainly better than others it does not provide the best introduction to Marxism. I would've liked more written about the context and its relevance in the modern day, as well as the theory illustrated with examples.
Marx’ original texts are complicated to understand and I had hoped that this book would contextualise them and allow me to relate his concepts to modern issues but I can’t say it did
