This is the untold story of the artistic life and business acumen of one of the most influential garden designers of the century. Jekyll's notebooks and personal photograph albums reveal areas of her life that she rarely wrote about and which are, as a result, unknown to all but a few.

More of an exploration of major themes in Jekyll's life than a straightforward autobiography. Each chapter covers a different aspect, such as Jekyll's garden design work, her horticultural writing, her photography and how she worked with Lutyens to design her own home.

A very balanced overview of a significant figure in garden history - ideal for anyone who would like to learn a bit more about Jekyll's life and work without reading a fullscale autobiography. The book is well illustrated with contemporary photographs.
