Steve and his friends have journeyed across the US through a Zombie Apocalypse to wreak vengeance on the ones who brought this nightmare to their shores. Book 6 is the conclusion of their campaign and the start of their new lives. Journey with them as they fight for the right to live free and start over in a savage wasteland.
Living in a lighthouse as a child led me early to a love of reading. Despite what you may have been told the life of a lighthouse keeper's son is not all Glamour and Parties. There's a lot of time when there really isn't much to do besides wonder if the fog horn has finally made you deaf or watch your dad pull fishing lures out of different parts of people's bodies. (You'd be amazed!)
Two of my favorite houses growing up!
I read. I read a lot. We had a 'reading caterpillar' around the room at my school where every time you read a book you put your name on your color paper and hung it up. The teacher had to give me two colors because it was looking more like a worm than a caterpillar. I devoured CS Lewis before moving on to Tolkien. Reading has continued to be a big part of my life. I've moved into Alternative Realities by guys like Stirling and my guilty pleasure is Zombie novels. I can't seem to get enough of them!
I like reading about the extremes people will go to to survive. The ones who can rise above the rest and keep their sense of right and wrong. When humanity crumbles around them these flawed heroes stand tall and try to make their way. They go from struggling to pay the phone bill to struggling to keep themselves and others alive. I like to see how this either hardens or breaks them. I think these stories speak at a very primal level. I enjoy the journey greatly as I get to tag along seeing how the survivors manage and how the experience forges them into something more than they were.
I look forward to sharing the journey with you all!
I look forward to reading more by Merritt. Although I understand other people's remarks regarding the grammar, I thought it was easy to overlook it 'cause the characters and the story line was great. The amount of times I changed 'drug' to dragged in my head was way too many though.
I could have gone without the racist connotations too, being an Australian and Filipino myself, but meh... the North Koreans in this story were scum.
Lastly... I'm happy to see Ginny make it all the way to the end, but I'd really like to know what happened to Daisy??
I truly enjoyed writing this series. It was a years endeavors of late nights and early mornings writing around kids and school and work. It took the place of actually reading other books for the most part which was a downer but I found it worked out the same for me. It just took longer as I watched the movie in my head and experienced the action in 4D I had to stop and try to document for my readers so they could follow along as well. Thank you all SO much for coming on this journey with me. I'm looking forward to the next adventure!
I have read all of the books in this series and love them. If tot like zombie books that are funny and serious you will love them too. Characters are great and the story line is easy to follow.
Great series! I enjoyed every single book. What's not to love? Likeable, relatable characters who are fearsome, selfless warriors. Humorous moments, on the edge of your seat, hold-your-breath exciting moments, sad, sorrowful moments (I cried!), throughout a great storyline. Loads of zombies with a second nemesis of the Koreans added to increase the danger factor. I highly recommend this series to all lovers of great action/adventures and especially to the lovers of zombie apocalyptic thrillers. The only criticism I have is for the poorly done job of proofreading - lots of grammatical and typographical errors. Still, have to give it 5 stars though!
I enjoyed this series, the adventures, trials, and tribulations with Steve and Anne and the rest of the gang. The story flowed with lots of zombies and action with the North Korean's trying to invade our country. It was an action packed series with a sense if humor infused by Steve that made the series very enjoyable. Kudos to the author!
If you've read my previous reviews of this series, you know I almost didn't even start reading it and then I almost stopped a few pages in. I have been really surprised by the VERY obvious growth of the author throughout this series. It ended up being a really great series and well worth the read!
I read the entire series and highly recommend that if you enjoy zombie literature this series is really great. Characters that you can relate to and you want to see them succeed. I like forward to other works by this author.
Real fun read, I read the entire series. Only reason that I have it four stars is because of the misspelled words and lack of punctuation. It was confusing at times because you weren't sure how to read a sentence so it was a little irritating. However, the characters were fully fleshed out characters and written as real people - no one was a super hero, glamorous women, scientist, etc. Humor was frequently part of the story, as it should be! Anyone who has been in tense, life or death situations knows that "black humor" is used to keep everyone sane and help relieve tension. I do recommend this entire series. Very promising writer. r
Oops, first time writing a review. Hope you can read it above. Highly recommend this series. Quite a promising writer.
I didn't leave a review until now because I wanted to see if he got better as it unfolded. The story was great, very action packed, very creative and enthralling. If you can get past the numerous errors like spelling, wrong wording, bad sentence structure, keeps calling gun magazines 'clips' and bad punctuation; then you'll love it! That's the reason he didn't get 5 stars from me. I very much enjoyed the story, but was going nuts wanting to document every mistake and tell the author to check around with his author friends for good editors and beta readers P.S. At the end, where's the dog?
Read straight through so six books. Kept my attention constantly. Characters well developed, humor balanced the blood and gore. Will certainly follow this author!
I enjoyed this series a lot. I cared about the characters and hoped they kicked their enemies' asses. My main issue is the editing and grammar. There were so many errors (it's "couldn't care less.") and it's just difficult to read that and not get annoyed.
This series was a great find! Every other zombie series I have read I could predict what happens. This series actually kept me on my toes. There were parts That I laughed and some parts that I cried.
Lotsa action almost too much. Hard to catch your breath. I am glad I picked this series to read and I will check out his other books. This review is from a 68 year old grandma who loves zombie books.
R.S. Merritt really knows how to put together a zombie saga to rival others on the market! Definitely recommend reading both Zournal and Zombies! If you enjoy a good apocalypse story with plenty of books to expound upon this is it!
first I was saying was here we go again but before I knew I was hooked in these books. Didn’t think I would read a zombie book again but these blew me away. Great books. Loved the characters. And loads of giggle moments! Thank you!
R S Merritt is now one of my favorite authors. His characters are so likeable! You went from laughing with them to crying. I cheered when they won a battle, and was touched by how they honored the friends they lost. I am going to look for more R S Merritt books!
What happened to Daisy??? Did I miss something? Still an excellent series, and I'm sad it's over. A follow-up up of Ginny's journey with the girls would be nice.
Started this series and didn’t continue it for whatever reason, but it popped back up in my suggestions and thought I’d give it another shot. I’m glad I did! Started from the beginning and just ran right through the rest. Great characters who keep you involved and make you care what happens next to them. Luck…laughter…and best laid plan’s failings lead this groups survival from East to West coast. Zombie series that doesn’t disappoint and an ending that seemed perfect for their group. Would recommend.
The end has come. A little sad no more Zournal to go But.. I’ll appreciate reading more and different books as I am sure they will be as entertaining as these were
I'm a huge fan of R.S. Merritt. I have enjoyed all of series thoroughly. If you like the zombie apocalypse genre, you won't find a better read. Love the characters and the reality of this series. Not your typical super special ops team that rolls thru the series untouched and successful all the time. I look forward to any and all new additions from Mr. Merritt!
