While I think there could be some entertainment value in this play, especially with the right audience, I found this play very insipid, contrived, and boring. The jokes were cheesy and the delivery was very obvious and artificial feeling. I've never been a huge fan of shows written by this team of authors and they do play better in front of an audience than they do on paper, but this play was by far my least favourite by these writers that I've read. This wasn't for me and I would avoid seeing this one performed live at great cost. Two thumbs down.
This is a hysterical play, especially for women “of a certain age.” Fortunate enough to see a marvelous production. Loved it so much ordered the play and read it- too many memorable lines not to have a “reference” copy. Wonderful friendships!
With more one liners than The Sweet Delilah Swim Club, small theatre will eat this up. Unlike the Swim Club the connection between the characters seems unlikely and it made the ending difficult to believe. Story arcs are rarely sudden, but this one is. I rolled on the floor at a few of the lines, but prefer other Jones/Hope/Wooten works.
Outrageous personalities and great comic lines for all four women of a certain age who set out to rediscover themselves. Very life-affirming, libido liberating, bold, and funny. Great entertainment too!
Definitely NOT my favorite JHW. It just has too much tell and not enough show - it just falls so flat. That said, it might really pop as a production shows like this often don't "read" well, but are hits on the stage.
This trio does it again! This is such a delightful play, with really impressive female characters. Love love love the message of female friendship and healing in places we least expect it.
This book is a humorous look at four women who become friends while rising to the new challenges that their lives bring as they are at or approach their golden years.
