This is the most detailed critical commentary on Ignatius of Antioch in the English language. There is extensive explanation of the Greek text of the epistles and a good summation of much background information on Ignatius. He interacts frequently with the Greco-Roman sources of the day. The only drawback is that it is nearly 40 years old. Many other developments in Ignatian scholarship have taken place since its composition.
