The Sword of Truth series sold 25 million copies worldwide and was translated into more than 20 languages. I'd like to have this review stand for the first 11 of Mr. Goodkind's "Sword of Truth" books.
These books have good action, likeable heroes and heroines, nasty villains, cute children, and even one goat. Those parts are fun to read.
However, and this is not a deal breaker for me, Mr. Goodkind has written long-winded speeches for the heroes, sometimes in the form of speeches, sometimes in the form of internal monologues. And they keep going over and over the same stuff. They repeat everything multiple times in slightly different words. They restate the case. They carry on and on and on until anyone actually human in these stories would want to stuff a sock down the speaker's throat just to shut him up. Ya dig?
I like these books in spite of the speeches, so maybe I'm weird. Then again, I don't always read every word of them.
I'm almost sorry to have finished this amazing adventure. And what an adventure it's been! I feel a kinship with Richard, Kahlan, Nicci, Cara, Zedd, Rachael, Chase and all the other players! I send a message it profound thanks up to Mr. Goodkind, may he rest in peace knowing has legacy continues to bring enjoyment to those of us still here.
Great series, love the characters and their storylines. The author's ability to remain dedicated to the main tale, and not fall into trying to squeeze all the main characters origins into this saga really made this series an enjoyable experience for me.
I got hooked on Terry Goodkind's writing years ago. Every time I think I should read another genre I am drawn back to see what Zed, Nathan, Nikki, Kahlan & Richard are up to. Always intriguing.
