YourTube pop sensation Yumemi Yumemite cheerfully ropes Yumeko into a publicity stunt for the student council presidential election, Kawaru Natari--a famous Hollywood actress and Yumemi's one true idol--suddenly shows up at Hyakkaou Private Academy! Doused from head to toe in celebrity magic, she has everything Yumemi desires...Will the sudden entrance of this starlet propel the bubbly popstar toward her dreams or devour them entirely?
This was one of the weaker volumes imo where the stakes really weren’t that high and the sense of danger/chaos was nowhere near as intense as they had been in previous instalments.
The election story arc is turning into a deathly dull quagmire for this series as too many characters engage in too many secret plans and alliances. Ho hum.
It doesn't help that the game du jour is an acting contest that just comes down to a bunch of bluffing. Though it was interesting to see a fully enraged Yumeko Jabami; it was a striking contrast to her usual dreamy and sensuous personality.
For me, it was a somewhat unimpressive volume. I was eager to find out who the girl with the pale face was, but it turned out that she was always wearing a disguise. Although I'm glad for Yumemi, I'm looking forward to the next match of Ririka and Mary.
I enjoyed this gamble more than I remembered from the anime (outside of one additional scene, everything was adapted consistently here like with the last volume). Yumemi and Yumeko spend a good chunk of it trying to wrestle for power against Kawaru Natari, the former's personal idol in her quest to gain American success. Kawamoto establishes great stakes and makes the round easy to follow. There are also a few nice twists along the way. Add on top of that Naomura's most expressive faces of the entire series thus far, and you've got a reader on the edge of his seat, soaking up every minute.
We're now moving into the anime's uncharted waters with the double digits. I'm interested to see what will come to these characters and their gambling strengths, especially as we learn more about the Momobami family as a whole and follow Mary's own journey with Ririka.
3.5: I feel like the first handful of volumes were really great and the setup was a very fun premise. But the schtick of the series started to become repetitive with less of ghr overarching story that I was hoping it’d develop into. Most people pretty much acknowledge that’s its fan service-y (somewhere between yuri and male gaze????) so I get why it is what it is. But the first few volumes felt like they were gonna turn into something more but instead chose to go fan service-y. There are still some compelling aspects (I hope we get more focus on Mary and Ririka coming up) but it’s taken a dip for me unfortunately. Still a lot of fun to read and I’m sticking with it for now!
It was really interesting to see Yumemi break her finger for the sake of acting and trying to defeat someone. I really enjoyed seeing her work together with Yumeko and I liked seeing a bit background about Yumemi and her secretary. I oddly like seeing Mary and Ririka teaming up against people together so I’m excited to see how the next volume goes.
I'm kind of sad that Rei is exclusive to the anime as they were probably one if not my favorite character when I watched the anime. But the election is still definitely fun even without them, especially since I get to experience more of the plot that the anime hasn't gotten to yet (though hopefully it will eventually).
I found this volume to be a step up from the previous one- I found this gamble to be a lot more compelling, but the "fan service" really took me out; why are we drawing minors like this? its gross.
It's minimal and easy to skip over so I'm not drooping it to 1 star- but it's still super uncomfortable.
Wow. I totally disagree with the other reviewer because the previous idol volume was one of my favorites and I'm SO glad they brought Yumemi Yumemite back! Still having a great time reading this series.
The first half of this volume reads like a 3-star. Personally, parts of it got a little boring, but the last quarter made it for me. I ADORED the last bit so much; the art is gorgeous as always.
Who even are these people? Way too many new characters I don’t care about. This election arc needs to wrap it up already. Singing and acting challenges really did not translate well on paper.
I'm just speeding through this. Yumemi Yumemite is fun, but I didn't really feel for her. Either way, still quite interesting to read, mainly because of Ririka and Mary's shenanigans.
yumemi convinces yumeko to do a second gambling variety show with her, this time paired as a team against famous hollywood actress (and momobami family member) kawaru natari in a series of acting related challenges

I don’t read these for the sappy life lesson moments… I read these for the crazy gambling. The past two volumes have been a disappointment. I hope it doesn’t continue.
