The Matchup

Rate this book
A dark pleasure competition. An enemy for an opponent. A woman who may be my match.

My absurd tycoon of an uncle is retiring. Finally, my dream of being CEO over his publishing empire, including his coveted BDSM website, is nearing reality. But Uncle Harvey won’t hand over the reins so easily. He’s pitted me against my enemy... my cousin.

Best man wins it all, according to ol’ Harv. Fine. Because the best man is going to be me.

But we can’t do it alone. For fun, Unc matched us with a woman.

He chose Ava for me. She’s sweet, courageous, sexy... and vanilla to her very core. Since I’m a Dominant, that’s a problem. I don’t compromise, but she has me twisting my commands into requests, and thinking of her desires before my own. As the competition advances, we’re both pushed beyond our limits.

Worse, my cousin has plans of his own. Has desires of his own. And he always desires what is mine.

He wants Ava, and when I see him touching her, the contest explodes into violence, with consequences I couldn’t have imagined.

Firstly, take a moment to appreciate the cover. Hot guy, beautiful colors. I'm a bit of a cover whore if you ladies haven't already realized. I have been known to read books for no reason other than the cover. I'm sure you can imagine sometimes that works out better than others.

Now, for the story. This book was engaging and moved at a pace I enjoyed. It was well written. I couldn't seem to put it down, I just needed to know what would come next for Ava and Lucas.

The Matchup is about two people, Ava and Lucas, forced together by his medling uncle. With a lot on the line they set out to win a series of challenges. Challenges that push both of them outside of their comfort zone (both in and out of the bed).

This book had steamy scenes, lots of steamy scenes. Some light BDSM, it didn't get too crazy, but my goodness it was hot. There's certain times my reading habbit (*cough* addiction *cough*) drives my husband mad, there's other time when he really appreciates it, if you know what I mean. This book is the latter.

As much as I love reading erotica and sexy scenes, I'm usually very engaged with the characters. It's never a problem for me to put myself in thier shoes and see the scene through their eyes. Which is probably why I often find myself uneasy when reading scenes about domination. I'm happy to say this book didn't make me uneasy at all.

He was certainly dominate, that was never a secret, but he was always so honest and caring in his interactions with Ava. I connected with the characters, although I think Lucas has a secret he hasn't shared with the reader and I want to know what it is.

I fell more in love with Lucas every time he trusted Ava and let her take the lead. I loved that Ava was such a strong, ambitious woman who had no intentions of submitting to anyone. I also love that Lucas didn't push the issue too much.

It was their chemistry and emotional connection that really made this story standout for me. Their honesty with each other, the way they interacted outside of the bedroom, the way they compromised in the bedroom made me so ridiculously happy.

This was an awesome read that left me with a smile on my face. It was naughty without being vulger, something I absolutely appreaciate. I recommend this to anyone who wants to read a book that's a little bit dirty but still give you the warm fuzzys of a romance novel.

This was a good read, not as deeply emotional as past reads by Alice Ward but still has a good plot. What the plot basically is that Mason and Lucas are enemies and vying for the big CEO position in the company for when Uncle Harvey retires. Uncle Harvey has Lucas and Mason competing in this game that he thinks up and it has dual purposes in both business and personal reasons. I don’t want to give too much away but when you read the story, much becomes aware to the reader as to what the purposes are. Lucas is a dominant man with dark tastes while Ava is innocent, sweet and full of light. You would think she could never fulfill Lucas who has a need for all dark things but Lucas is drawn to Ava—In case you hadn’t figured it out, Lucas's match is Ava. There is BDSM kink in the story which I liked. Lucas is a dom while Ava has a submissive nature. I liked what comes out in the story and what the uncle had set up but what happens when Lucas figures out that Mason wants Ava too? Expect this huge showdown between the men. Uncle Harvey is one man I wouldn’t want as an enemy, that I will say. Lucas is a good man who at times was misunderstood but what could have been improved on was his emotional connection to Ava. I felt there was this lack of feeling at times. The sexual chemistry was insanely hot but the emotional connection at times was sorely lacking. I adored Ava. She was one sassy, strong willed woman who had heart and soul. I really connected with her in this story, not Lucas as much. I still liked this story and look forward to reading the next Alice Ward read.

Be prepared for dark!
January 7, 2018
Format: Kindle Edition
Sorry, but I really disliked this hero and the heroine was not much better. Lucas is spoiled, manipulative, and domineering. The girl his uncle finds for him makes some effort to resist his increasingly kinky demands but then gives in and "loves it." And I found the whole competition premise of this book unconvincing, just a vehicle for darker and darker bedroom scenes that went on way too long. It was a chore for me to finish the book. The heartwarming character of this author's earlier works like The Hunt that made me a big fan is missing from this one, to my regret.

I received a complimentary advance copy of this book from the author; this is my voluntary and honest review.

The Matchup by Alice Ward a five-star read that will match your expectations. This author writes amazing stories and characters that will warm your heart, this was such a great read, I don’t know what to put in my review as firstly I don’t think I can do the story justice, but also, I don’t want to give spoilers. All I will say is how far would you go to win? That’s what Lucas and Mason have to figure out. It’s also a question you will be asking yourself. This was a great story filled with passion and a depth that you don’t often see in this type of read.

Meh. I normally like Alice Ward, but this took me too long to read for some reason. The plot sounded interesting at first but then it was a little silly and repetitive. Also, the book ends at 50%, so there is that. Plenty of steam if that’s what you’re looking for.

I loved this book! The grandfather is a freaking genius!! and the jokes that he tells actually had me rolling on the floor laughing.
So you have Lucas and Mason who are cousins and who both want to take over thier uncles multibillion dollar company. In order for them to do this though they would have to compete in a contest that was organized by thier uncle. Of course they both jumped at the chance especially since the competition was sexual in nature.
Then you have Ava and Isabelle who are the women that were chosen to help them compete, they would get a whopping 100000 if they won or lose and the winner would walk away a millionaire.
Shoo, I would have competed too!!
Ava is a normal girl who knows nothing of Lucas's dominating lifestyle she just wants to get enough money so that she can move out of her current house and start her own fashion line.
Challenge after challenge Ava and Lucas become closer and closer until it is no longer about who will win the company but more about if Lucas will be able to stop himself from falling in love with her!
I will say there are some twist and turns that I was just not expecting, a very good read!

If you don't like book that have a little bit of darkness in them, then you will not like this book. Within this book you have an Uncle that likes to get involved with his nephews lives and wants to make sure that they step up and become men before he eventually passes away. Lucas is a dominant in all ways of life. When he meets Ava at this competition that he is in with his cousin, he is attracted to her immediately and cannot wait to have her be his submissive. He's in for a shock though because Ava is a strong woman who when push comes to shove will push Lucas to his own limits. As I said, this book is a little dark but I am a fan of Alice Ward and her writing. I thought it was written well, the characters even though at times a bit over the top were enjoyable to read about.

Great writing, a unique storyline, well-developed characters, secrets, desires, consequences, humor, explosive chemistry, lots of surprises, loads of steamy scenes, which all eventually lead to a HEA.

I liked the book ok. It is well written and the author did a good job. However, BDSM is not my style so I'm not going to give this an excellent rating. Lucas kept me irritated most of the book and I didn't like his character very much. I did admire Ava with her courage and sassiness (if that's even a word!) and I'm glad she stood her ground some and did some pushing on her own. There is a HEA and the ending is pretty good. I received an advance copy from the author and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Two unlikely people meet under erotic mystery circumstances. Both have something to lose in order to win. But is the cost too high? Lucas and Ava live two very different lives and are seemingly opposite in just about everything. They can be one another's greatest support or biggest regret. Only time will tell which it will be.

Lucas is a dark man with dark tastes. Ava is light, sweet, and direct. On paper she could never fulfill all Lucas' darker needs but he's incredibly drawn to her and as the competition progresses he is more determined than ever to mold her into what he needs.

Ava, on the other hand, is determined to show him another reality. She is intensely attracted to Lucas and even his darkness isn't a complete turn-off. She grows more and more fond of him and is opening her mind and body to types of pleasure that she never thought she'd enjoy before. Lucas helps her discover parts of her sexuality that would have been ignored and overlooked forever and while she's grateful for that, she's also so very afraid of what that means for her identity. Knowing herself and fighting for her voice all her life has led her to this point, what will happen if the 'Ava' she's always known changes?

As they work together to win the competition secrets are revealed, desires are altered, and decisions must be made. When everything comes to a head no one is sure of what the future will look like and who will remain standing.

I liked the end and where they all ended up. The majority of the story made me uncomfortable, though, but not because of the BDSM or anything, it was more a sense of frustrated discomfort because of Lucas' expectations. He expected Ava to conform and even when he admired or acknowledged her lack of a proper submissive attitude he still reverted back to what was most important for him rather than them or even her. I get that he needed time to come to terms with it all but it lasted for pretty much the entire story.

Ava stood up for herself and did her best to open Lucas' mind to pleasure and intimacy in different ways and I liked her strength, logic, and reason. She was compassionate and kind and self-assured. In almost every way she is Lucas' complement. With her brightness and heart she had the potential to balance Lucas' desires and motivations. Uncle Harv and Mason could see that so it was just up to Lucas to open his eyes to what he could have.

My biggest frustrations are these. First is the lack of Lucas' POV for his reconciliation of thought. Who he was before and who he chose to become after things went down with Uncle Harv was where the focus should have been. It was fine to read about Ava's time between the competition and resolution but what should have preceded that was Lucas' mind. The whole story is about his emotional and sexual perspective, his need for change. He had the most to reconcile and come to terms with but that whole evolution was missing. A few lines of explanation to Ava isn't going to cut it for me.

Second, when Lucas comes to Ava with the box during the reconciliation part it frustrated me because when he should have said, "I don't need this but I want this. Please share this with me," he instead came out with a rather lackluster confession and apology and then jumped straight into the Dommy attitude that didn't work for Ava before. And Ava gave in!! Not that she shouldn't have, but there was no thought other than she missed him and loved him and so therefore all the things that were wrong before are suddenly not an issue. "I didn't trust you before and now that we've had time apart and I've missed you I suddenly trust you to hurt me without hurting me." Nope. Not buying it. I just didn't like that part and thought it was an ineffective way to blend their two sexual penchants together.

So overall the story was pretty good. When the feels were there they were very much there, but when ego, pride, pasts, and rigidity took the fore then it dwarfed the feels so much that I was left feeling uncomfortable. The end was pretty solid but a little rushed until we get to the bathroom scene. That was really one of my favorite parts so that was a really great way to end the story. With that moment I was almost willing to forgive the things I felt were truly lacking. Almost, not quite, but almost.

Read and willingly read this ARC from the author.

A good steamy read about a billionaire Lucas who likes control over everything in his life including women, he is a Dom and only plays with subs. Ava also likes control and is very independent, she wants to make it on her own and provide for her sister. Her roommate enters her in a contest to win millions of dollars and gets chosen as a finalist. The catch, live with Lucas, his cousin, Mason and another woman Isabella at a ski resort and complete competitions against each other. Paired off with Lucas the games begin, millions on the line for her and the CEO position at his uncle’s company on the line for him.
There were parts of the story that I didn’t understand, first, why such animosity against Mason ? It was explained but not really in depth and it was hard to understand the reasoning. Second, why was Lucas such a hard Dom and didn’t want to try vanilla, at all, again it was explained but to me it lacked any depth or emotion from him. I also didn’t like how he treated Ava at times and didn’t really “talk” with her, it only seemed he “talked” at her. The ending at the hospital with Lucas, Mason and their uncle was too quick for me, I would have liked to have seen more emotion from Lucas as it seemed anticlimactic to me. I also would have liked to have read about his time away from Ava in his POV as her feelings were expressed in her POV, but there wasn’t any from him except for what he tells her and it didn’t seem enough for me.
I did enjoy Ava, she was smart, funny, sassy, selfless and was willing to try for Lucas to make him happy, more than he did for her. I also enjoyed the ending in the bathroom as that was sweet and a great HEA for them. The story did flow nicely and the steamy scenes were steamy with some being very sensual.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I would actually rate this at 3.5 stars.

There are loads of steamy scenes and by the end of the book there was good character growth, but I didnt like how determined the male protagonist seemed to be to behave like an aggressive overly dominate jerk. He pushed too much and too hard in my opinion without reallllly taking the female protagonists actual feelings into account.

He was very into BDSM and was kinda pissed the woman his uncle paired him with for a competition to win CEOship over said uncles holdings was vanilla and pretty innocent. So he decided she just needed to be bossed and lorded over until she caved to what he wanted to do to her. He was bossy practically nonstop and I hated him.

The competition was another aspect I didnt like. WTH kind of "CEO competition" involves pairing strangers together with strict rules and instructions to have sex?! Skeevy.

If you could ignore the male leads crap attitude and female leads odd and sudden willingness to half cave than the book actually held several pretty amusing scenes and I did chuckle a time or two.

Lucas, the male lead, really wasnt a character I could summon any real interest in. He just rubbed me the wrong way. It seemed for most of the book as if he just wanted to break Ava. Like a horse.

Ava, the female lead, had an inner strength I loved until she kept backing down.

Somebody else may interpret this book in a different way, and many will probably enjoy it because, like I said, there are loads of very steamy scenes. A few scenes were more give and take, but most had at least one major clashing of wills beforehand.

Eventually there is a happily ever after, but getting to that lovely part was kinda torturous.

Uncle Harvey is the CEO of a major multi-million dollar business enterprise known all over the world. He's looking to retire and has decided to have his two nephews Lucas and Mason compete against one another for his position. Both men are capable and successful in their own rights but it was important Harvey has the "right" man in place to ensure leadership was passed appropriately so the business will continue to prosper.

As part of the selection process, Harvey devised a "contest" that would pit his nephews against one another during a month-long challenge, the winner is rewarded with the CEO position. The contest takes place at a ski lodge in Vail, Colorado where the men are each paired with a female partner to assist them with the competition. The couples have to compete in daily "surprise" challenges. The final selection for the CEO position will be made on scores earned during the month's challenges.

I absolutely loved the book and as the it progressed, I only became more entrenched. As with many of Alice Ward's books, I experienced a myriad of emotions not the least of which was pure joy. I loved the characters and Uncle Harvey will stand out for quite a while. The feelings I had for the characters only grew as the story progressed. And more than once I found myself saying, "this is absolutely brilliant!" Bet you will too. In the end, I was pleased for many reasons, not the least being a job well done. As a recipient of a reader copy, I would like to congratulate Alice Ward for yet another great story filled with memorable characters, important life lessons as well as lots of surprises. P.S. Don't worry, there is plenty of heat! You will love it ; )

Highly Emotional and Entertaining Story!!!

Uncle Harvey owns a publishing enterprise, fashion magazines and a naughty website and is looking to find his replacement. Lucas is a work-a-holic, runs his own business and thinks he is a shoo-in. Cousin Mason is a ne’re-do-well and stole an early girlfriend from Lucas. These two are pit against each other in an unusual contest. Each must complete a set of tasks with a female partner selected by Uncle Harvey. Each must give up their current life for 30 days while the competition

Ava is a designer and looking for her first design opportunity. She is in a nightmare rental situation which results in her designs being ruined right before an important interview. About to be evicted, she is entered into the contest to be one of the women in the contest by her well-meaning roommate. The prize money could set her up in her own business.

The challenges include physical, teamwork and personal interactions. Ava is teamed with Lucas who has a darker side. Many challenges are quite a surprise: “This funky little fashion designer from Arkansas w stealing my heart. She’d pushed me to new and uncomfortable place more easily than the board of directors at my company ever had.

Scintillating, humorous and touching growth of these characters is revealed as each one fights for their future, but then takes their partner into higher consideration than their own. Captivating read which I highly recommend!!

I received the ARC from the author in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.

First & foremost, do NOT expect a deeply emotional read like we've read in the past with The Cabin, The Mask, and even The Christmas Bet with this story. The Christmas Bet was just a prelude into Alice's vision of BDSM. Alice does a spectacular job weaving us deeper into the BDSM world than she has before with The Matchup. This story is dark and dirty. Throw his cousin, Mason, and his manipulative Uncle, into the mix and you've got the drama.

Mason and Lucas are enemies and vying for the CEO position in the company when Uncle Harvey retires. Uncle Harvey has Lucas and Mason competing in a game for both business and personal rewards. He matches each of them up with a woman. Lucas's match is Ava. Lucas is a dom who likes his sex dark and dirty. Ava is his complete opposite. He's resistant to taking on an untrained submissive when he recognizes that Ava does not have a submissive nature. Will "opposites attract" turn out to be the forever kind of love that Lucas has never been interested in before? Does Ava really get into the BDSM world that Lucas has attracted her to? What happens when Lucas realizes that Mason wants Ava too? Epic blowout towards the end between Lucas and Mason. Uncle Harvey put a lot of thought into how the game was going to be played. I found it very interesting!

For drama, darker/dirtier sex, and Alice's usual magic with her writing and imagination - this is the story for you!

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Excellent well written story with great characters who can be smoothy, sassy, have humor and have a part of darkness.
Lucas wants to be the CEO of his uncle’s enterprise (and he works for it for years now), but his uncle decides to have for him and his other nephew, a competition. They will meet two women in a chalet and they will have to succeed challenges (from normal to sexual). The girls will be chosen via a contest, on an hedonist website. Lucas his not a womanizer, but is an dominating alpha, in BDSM, and his cousin Mason is a womanizer who usually just wants what Lucas has or wants, except BDSM.
One of the girl is a fashion designer just graduated, Ava, and she needs to find a job, to have money to open her own business, and quit her shitty life. So her roomate enters her in the contest. She’s completely vanilla’s style and has had few lovers, but her attraction’s to Lucas seems magnetic.
The problem is that his domination can’t be express with Ava like he would like to be, or he would scare her and he will lose the competition.
So the story is a slow but completely arousing’s progression. Each challenge and chapter is hot as hell.
I really appreciated that they have to search in themself to be out of their confort zone, find compromise. The characters are well developed, explained. I really loved it

Never predictable, this author's creativity knows no bounds. This book is so original - yes, the "contest" thing has been done, but not like this, I can assure you.

Cousins Lucas and Mason both want to take over the family company when Uncle Harv retires, but good ol' Unc has deeper plans for the two of them. He first partners them each with a woman they've never met, then pits the two teams against each other in a contest that seems more designed to make them reevaluate their lives rather than just choosing who's the better corporate leader.

The women they've been partnered with have their own stories, their own reasons for participating in this stranger's game. There are exciting competitive events, secrets to be revealed, love scenes that'll knock your socks off, and unexpected connections that make you want to start the book all over again with the new information in mind.

There's not a whole lot to say without revealing spoilers, but rest assured this book will having you flipping pages as fast as you can, stopping only to go cool yourself off and let your kindle simmer down. The writing is inventive, the characters are complex and well-developed, the pace is intense, and the love scenes are electrifying. There is a HEA, to be sure, but you'll never guess how it all plays out.

An excellent insight on BDSM. Uncle Harv devises a one month contest for his 2 nephews, Lucas & Mason, one of whom will inherit Uncle Harv's company. He finds 2 women who are matched to the nephews & the games begin! Ava may be naive in BDSM & Lucas as the powerful DOM but she shows she's up to the challenge of each game they need to complete so the winning female would receive cash money & the winning nephew would get Uncle Harv's company when he retires fairly soon.

Interesting love story where Ava has to trust Lucas in the different games whether they are outside winter fun games or BDSM activities. Ava is a strong individual & makes Lucas understand early that she's no pushover & does not want to be the submissive all the time. She may be scared to try each activity which is new to her but she makes him see this is only a contest & to lighten up. As each activity is completed, his walls around his heart are falling down & realizes he loves being with Ava. This is not a "take all" one-sided partnership & Ava shows him this. Lucas learns a lot of lessons in the time-frame of the contest. An excellent novel to read. Will make you blush & squirm if this is your introduction to BDSM activities. Tastefully done!

I received a free copy of "the Matchup" & this is my honest review.

A dirty, naughty love connection competition.

Ava is an aspiring fashion designer who takes care of her younger sister. With no apartment and no real money to get her career started, her roommate signs her up for a competition on Hedon.com where you get $100K for competing. Not your average contest, because this one is gonna get kinky. And its going to push Ava way out of her comfort zone and test her boundaries.

Ava meets Lucas. She's been partnered with him to compete. Lucas has high stakes too. He's competing against his cousin for control of his Uncle's business. He's successful in his own right, but is driven and wants more.

This competition is sexy and HOT. These two have to form a bond that includes trust. But Lucas has his own issues with being in control and Ava refuses to be degraded and submit completely. These two need to work to find a middle ground. They are against his cousin and his match. But the challenges they have to compete in range from fun to downright naughty.

Their connection is HOT. They each test their partner's boundaries. These two may not seem like the perfect match, but they are each other's perfect complement. They make one another better. It's a different story and I enjoyed the originality.

Let go of boundaries

I was so impressed with this book. Alice Ward brilliantly pushed her characters. Preconceptions and boundaries were blown away it in a very non traditional way. You think you know how and who will submit but there’s surprises in just who and how it happens. Life is way more fluid and compromising and this story and characters show this beautifully. Not only did our H/h have depth and personality ~even when we didn’t particularly them~ the secondary characters do as well. In my mind there are so many spinoff books that could be written. I’d quickly read them all. As always Ms Ward’s writing is clear and not bogged down with unnecessary words or descriptions. She gives enough to allow us to immerse into the story but not so much the details become boring. I’ve read a good bit of her writing and this book ranks amongst her best. I’d highly recommend and suggest you one click right away. Oh, I almost forgot! Ava and Lucas have out of this world chemistry ~ sexually and emotionally!

I received an arc copy of this book. This is my voluntary, true, and honest opinion. *as with all the books I review that I’d read regardless, I’ve already downloaded a non review copy as I’ve suggested to others*

Alice is simply an amazing author and there is no smoke there. The books she puts out regularly tend to be original and different from the norm and this is no different. This is story has a twist which I enjoyed although I did wish we had more H POV. This story is about Ava and Lucas. This story is darker then most of Alice’s works. Ava is a broke, up and coming fashion designer who takes care of her younger sister. Ava’s desperation for cash has her roommate signing her up for a competition on Hedon.com where you get $100K for competing. This contest is not the average by any means. Ava is going to be pushed completely out of her comfort zone. Lucas is a dominate and his uncle has him competing against his cousin for very high stakes. Ava and Lucas are partnered together. Ava has been picked for Lucas, by Lucas’s uncle. The two are instantly attracted and for a bond but Lucas’s dominance demands him being in complete control and Ava refuses to be degraded and submit completely. They will have to find a middle ground. At first glance, this pair may not seem like the perfect match, but they are each other's perfect complement. I voluntarily read an an ARC of this book but also purchased a copy.

A Enjoyable Read, but I wanted more

To be honest, I went back and forth on rating this a 3 or 4, but I feel like every time I've read Alice Ward's books I feel this way. The general premise of 'The Matchup' was a good one and was unfolding at a great pace and then it's quickly summed up and brought to an end unnecessarily quick. There was a lot more that could have been written to build the plot and characters, but once again she leaves me wanting more. The characters were alright - I liked Ava over Lucas. Her character development seemed better, even if I felt she caved more for the guy than she should have. I felt Lucas was a contradiction - he's supposed to be this cold, alpha character that evolves to a more emotional sort, but it felt too forced. I will give Alice Ward credit for a portrayal of BDSM in such a way that seemed to be more respectful of both participants than some other portrayals I've read. The bonus book included I actually skipped because I recall having read it before & although there was still a lot left to be desired, I'll probably end up reading more books by Alice Ward because the beginnings always book me in.

Lucas wants the position of CEO at his uncle’s kinky company and he is certain that he will get it. Unfortunately he needs to deal with his cousin Mason, rival and supposed enemy. So what happens when his strange uncle suddenly decides to announce an unusual competition between them? It will be a journey of Lucas’ full realization as a whole. Lucas’ world will soon fall apart, his need of control and his dominant character will crash with the strong and sweet one of Ava, the girl that is teamed up with him in this competition. The game will not only be challenging for both characters but they will also begin a journey of give and take and Lucas will finally bind with his real mate. The story initially seemed quite bizarre but as I went on reading, the love that grew between Lucas and Ava was breathtaking. At a certain point, it was no longer a game for them but letting loose their inhibitions gave them a chance to really look deeply at one another. What else there is to say…grab the book and enjoy the game. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of the book.

There is Lucas who is a billionaire wit aspirations to be the CEO of his uncle's business. Lucas' uncle decided he would determine which of his nephews get the somewhat racy publication business but making them go through a contest. They don't know what is in store, just that they have to be gone a month and each will have a woman selected for them through his Uncle's website, hedon.com. Then there is Ava, who just graduated from fashion school and is looking for full time employment. Nothing is working out for her and when she gets evicted from her apartment she decides to move forward with a contest that her roommate signed her up to do. She is not very experienced but is willing to give it her all if she can win enough money to set up her own design company.

The storyline keeps you reading though I would have loved to have learned what was going on in the other cousin's room. There are great secondary characters and beyond chemistry between the two main characters.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The book was good and I loved the premise of the story. But that's as far as I got because both the male and female protagonists just plain confused me. Ava would have been a pretty good partner to Lucas had she sprouted a back bone at any point during the story. I would have been happy if she said NO just once and didn't back down. I got the feeling that no matter how she felt, she'd just give in to whatever Lucas wanted. And Lucas. OMG, he read like a spoiled brat who couldn't stand not to get his own way. In the end, I suppose I could say they each got what they wanted, but that was only because he didn't give an inch and she did. I love Alice Ward as a writer. Her books are usually well written, well plotted, characters well developed, and always, always hot and sexy. This one was still well written, and the action was definitely steaming, but the characters didn't seem to quite mesh with each other. And my frustration with Ava's immaturity prevented me from really enjoying the book. 3-1/2 Stars from me.

Well now!
What a story that was!
I am always up for stories that challenge my senses, this uniquely written romance not only peaked my interest but had me liking and disliking the H frequently throughout out this whirlwind competition!
Loads of sexy scene intertwined within the pages of this BDSM game on related story- but don't worry that's not all it is about, there are family ties, love conquering all, along with some moving on and a whole lot of growing up to do!
While my frustrations with the H's actions made my liking him hard to do, as a whole the characters where well written and very intriguing.I would have liked to have had a bit of Mason's pov in the beginning, and a little during the competition. I think it would have been a nice break up in the story and brought another perspective! ( of course, this is just my non-authouress opinion )
A tinge on the darker side BDSM read with light-hearted moments and plenty of steam The Match Up was an enticing read that challenged my emotions and held my attention captive right to the end!

I loved this! this is such a great twist on a blind date/match up romance! Mason and Lucas are cousins and are both in line to take over their uncle's publishing empire. The cousins were once close, but something in their past has caused them to hate to be in the same room together. Uncle Harvey has a few tricks up his sleeve when he tells them that after a month of a match up competition between them he will decide who will take over. Ava need to find a new place to live while trying to make her dreams as a designer come true. Her best friend signs her up for a contest and when she is picked she figures what does she have to lose? it's just a month, right? She never expects to be attracted to Lucas, especially when their match up starts to take asexually darker turn. The both want to win the competition, but they can't deny their chemistry and Lucas can't help but feel he is starting to care for Ava. This is a wild ride filled with suspense, secrets, a little darkness and so much steamy passion - yet still sweet!! It's everything you want all wrapped up into one fabulous story!!!

OMG!!! What an amazing story. I have to say that this book is one of my favourites from Ms. Ward’s library. I’m beginning to find that with each book I read, I’m enjoying the way Alice Ward develops her characters, the way she keeps you turning pages until you’ve turned every single page. I suggest you use your “one-click” button to get your own copy of the “The Matchup” by Alice Ward. You will not regret it!!! It was a pleasure to sit down, relax with a good glass of wine & devour all the pages...

Uncle Harvey is looking for his replacement in his empire. He has come up with the strangest way to determine which newphew will be the next CEO. Lucas & Mason will compete against each other & their partners to win the prize to become the next CEO. Lucas & Ava versus Mason & Isabella... Let the game begin!!! Who will be the next CEO of Huffman International Publishers? Will the two cousins come out as friends after a month of competing?

I received an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book & I’m voluntarily leaving my honest review.

Loved the story of Lucas and Ava. Lucas is a billionaire hoping to take over his uncles business when he retires. Ava is an upcoming fashion designer that just found herself evicted from her apartment and no where to go. Lucas finds out getting to be CEO requires him to compete in a contest pitted against his cousin Mason and they’ve been revivals since childhood. The challenge involves not only they but a female companion they will be paired up with via a contest on their Uncles website. Ava finds herself entered by her friend Sylvia and really can’t refuse she has no where to go and no money so when she’s chosen she ends up doing it even if it’s not in her comfort zone.

This was well written and keeps the reader wanting more! There is plenty of steamy scenes throughout the book do to the challenges the contestants compete and the chemistry is magical between Lucas and Ava! I loved the story and would recommend to others!

“The Matchup” by Alice Ward is an exciting book you must read. This story is about two cousins who want to take over their uncles business. The cousins have an extremely volatile relationship. The uncle decides to create a contest to see who end up taking over for him. Uncle Harv finds two women to match the men up with. He then proceeds to give them challenges. This story is unlike any I’ve read before. I loved it. I made so many assumptions that ended up being wrong. The two main characters are Lucas and Ava. They have terrific chemistry that is sizzling hot. I enjoyed these two characters tremendously. There is romance, intrigue and excitement throughout the book. There is a ton of emotions built into this story. I loved every page. This book is well written and flows smoothly between scenes. I enjoyed this book very much. If you read this book you won’t be disappointed. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
