The 31 day challenge aspect is really difficult when you have a couple of kids. We found within the first week we'd need to add in some flexibility due to busy schedules.
Still, the focus on marriage and God for 31 days has had significant impacts on my marriage, and I would guess that almost everyone who is committed enough to their relationship to go through with a challenge like this will see an improvement over the period practicing, whether your relationship is struggling or strong.
I was thankful to work through this at the same time as a good friend. We both felt that the book had a good, readable tone, practical ideas for thoughtfully connecting Scripture to our marriage. I would recommend it to any couple, but maybe more to one that’s been married for more than five years, since it helps to bring focus back in. I’ve been married twenty years, much of it I was already doing, but not all.
Primarily a reminder of a few things I know to do, but don't always do as well as I should. Would be a good read for husbands struggling to live out the love they feel or who just need a reminder or some direction on areas to work on.
This book really focuses on small disciplines that will help you pursue your wife in a new way. When you put them in action, you will see a change in the love you have for each other.
One of the best husband and wife devotional I’ve done. It challenges you to serve one another and talk about struggles and learn to love and serve each other deeply. I highly recommend it.
This book embarrassingly took MUCH longer than 31 days. My wife and I were honestly just not as faithful in reading one chapter a night. My wife (reading the companion piece by Ryan's wife) and I worked our way through this 1-chapter-a-day Biblical challenge for marriage and fostering a Christ-centered relationship. Each chapter starts with scripture, relates a principle, and then ends with reflection questions and a pursuit challenge or call to action. Completing some of these pursuits were difficult during quarantine–but most were very do-able. This was a very accessible, relatable, and Christ-focused read that is best paired when you read it with your partner.
The Good: A lot of the practicals application is great. The layout of the devotion makes it easy to follow. The points made draw one closer to God and your wife. Questions in each devotional are thought-provoking and poinient.
The Bad: This will be more time-consuming than you expect. Several of the tasks day to block out 2 hrs. If you're like me with two young kids, that isn't happening. The devotionals can get a little long winded. Each could easily do a paragraph or two and get the point across much me concisely.
