The Fairhaven Chronicles #4

Nightfall: The Revelations of Oriceran

Rate this book
The war is here.

Victoria Brie is infused with more dark magic than most people thought was even possible. It's made her powerful. Coveted. Feared.

There are those who want her dead.

She has been stabbed, shot, burned, bled, and hunted. She has been wrongfully labeled as a wanted criminal by a corrupt dictator. She has traveled the world to amass armies and allies.

All because she's striven to protect the beautiful city of Fairhaven and its citizens.

But the time has come.

No more waiting. No more planning. No more hiding. The war for Fairhaven has begun, and to its victor go the spoils.

This series is an enchanting urban fantasy saga with sarcastic ogres, wise-cracking wizards, and a brutally addictive full-contact sport called Berserk. Your only regret will be not starting it sooner.

WARNING! This story contains cursing because these eighteen-year-olds are honorable rebels. If cursing offends you, you might not like this book.

Okay, Victoria got herself amped up with some more Rhazdon hardware. Time to kick some elf arse and get to the expected conclusion of Luak’s despicable schemes. A conclusion which of course will include Luak’s not so unfortunate demise.

The book is very similar to the other books in the series except that there is not much of a plot. Victoria pretty much just lets her be led by and reacts to events as they come.

There are some twists and surprises along the way. The old wizard is grumpy as usual. When he is not…whoops that would be a spoiler. Victoria, her friends, the dialogue and all that is still great fun but it for most of the book it kind of just rolls on without an actual goal. I would have expected Victoria to work more deliberately towards her ultimate goal instead of just stumbling towards it.

That brings us to the ending. It really felt anticlimactic to me. Sure, mission accomplished but without much fanfare. There was no real “take-that” moment when a certain elf realized that Victoria was about to whoop his arse and going all wide-eyed.

A bit of a shame really. I was looking forward to this. As it turned out I almost feel that the book, especially the ending, was somewhat rushed.

The last of the Fairhaven Chronicles at least for now

This cannot be the end because there are a few details to clear up and questions left unanswered. I will definitely be getting the next book when it comes out because this series was just too much fun! I loved all the elves, ogres, pixies, witches, mages, wizards, sirens, yes and kickass humans. Am I missing anything? The world of Oriceran is fantastic! What a great concept! Hats off to the authors! They have done a great job so far with more greatness to come. And I don't plan on missing out. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The battle for Fairhaven finally comes to a head. It is Victoria vs Luak. It is the end of the series. And not a moment too soon that is. I have a feeling if it had been pushed out by another book it would have fallen flat.

Characters in this story are entertaining and for the most part well written. It can be easy to empathize with some of them. Mind you they are all overpowered to and extreme. Thus, some things seem like they are just too easy.

Action scenes seem to be the bane of the Oriceran universe. In here they are for the most part confusing at best. Sometimes you get. a little picture of what really is happening, but then they lack detail. It is a odd mesh of too much detail without context and just plain lacking detail at other times.

Story wise, the book stands solid. The whole of the narrative is entertaining and fun. The read is an easy one. Not a ton of brainpower is needed for it, which is nice sometimes. We all need a good and quick read sometimes.

Overall, good but not great. It ends on a stronger note than the last couple of books in the series. It comes to a nice conclusion and in so comes to a point in which case the story could continue at a later point if the author wishes to.

Tension is high as the fight for Fairhaven draws near. Both sides are keenly aware that the frightful power of the Artifacts will determine the victor. To make matters worse... no one can get a good game of Berserk in!

This book broadens our picture of Fairhaven a little, we get to meet some more of the characters that are taking part in these events, additional portions of the locale are explored, and Victoria's dedication to the city is put to the test. If you enjoyed the previous volumes, this one will be a nice addition to your collection of Oriceran books. If you have not read the previous volumes, you should!

Good ending

With siren adventure and an epic battle , the end of the series was pretty good. I enjoyed the ending but Victoria as a queen? Yeah she is not really queen material but she is wearing a crown for the ending until the game calls and well the game must be played! On to new adventures, where will I go next? Thanks for the adventure in a world with possibilities! Read it and join the world with us!

Drama & suspense

The arc has drawn to a close, and things are tense. Victoria is more determined than ever to finish Luak, and she is growing both in her powers and in her following and friends.

The recurring thread through all of the Oriceran books of loyalty and doing what is right regardless of personal cost continues strongly.

Now I'll just have to stalk Sarah until she finishes Blaze...

This was a book written to entertain, enchant, and to keep the reader totally engrossed by every single word.

Victoria is determined to win back Fairhaven from the dark assassin, Luak, holder of multiple Rhazdon Artifacts, and all round evil murdering swine.

Luak is determined to kill Victoria, just like he did her parents, for the Rhazdon Artifacts that she possesses - and he really doesn't care who dies, for him to get this chance!

With Victoria, and her friends, Audrey, Fyrn, and Diesel, all determined to be the ones to win this battle, they set off on a journey that will change everything for them all - and for a future that even Victoria doesn't see!

This was a great fourth book. I'm not sure if it's the final book in this series, after the ending that finished the way that it did, but I'm ever hopeful that there will be following stories, so I can see what happens next! Lol

This whole series has been a real blast to read, and it has kept me thoroughly entertained, so I was saddened to teach the final page.

But I know that there's still plenty of other series for me to explore, within the Oriceran Universe, and I look forward to continuing with them.

But, one of my fave writers, Sarah Noffke, nee Falconer, has just released book eight of her series: 'The Undoubtable Rose Beaufont', so I'm going to read this next, as I really love this character, and all of her family, and have been desperately waiting for this book to by published.

So I'm off to start reading: 'Runaway Black Magic', and I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about it!

I was so sucked into the story whenever I would pick up the book it was as though a piece of the world has broken off and everything else disappeared, a book with intrigue, adventure and suspense to boot! The characters are so likable and complex. I was so glad that I didn't have to leave them when the book ended...Keep writing!!! I am looking forward to more.
