New Heights

Rate this book
After attending a friend’s wedding in New York, James Thompson is eager to go home, even though no one will be waiting for him at the gate. He has no expectations for his trip back to Charleston other than long lines, security, and bad airplane food. But when an annoying—albeit hot—stranger cuts him in line, James is determined not to be a pushover for once. For Mika “It’s Mee-kuh, not Micah” Bailey, today’s just another day of boring work travel. That is, until his flight gets delayed, and some irritating (but handsome) guy keeps hogging all the good power outlets. Which means war. In the middle of an airport. In New York. What could go wrong? Eventually, they declare a truce, and as they get to know each other, their attraction overwhelms them both. Terrified of what he’s feeling, Mika suggests a no-strings hookup, but serial-monogamist James wants more. If they don’t fight for what’s right in front of them, their romance might be canceled before it ever takes off. Word 38,200; page 144

Insta-love done right, this is.

James is traveling home from NYC to Charleston, SC, after attending a friend's wedding. Mika, pronounced Mee-kuh, is heading the same way as part of work. Except, they don't initially know this.

The meet-cute happens when both of them need a power outlet at the airport after their respective flights are delayed. James is hogging the outlet, and Mika is irritated. Then Mika hogs the outlet and James is outraged.

It's difficult to flesh out your characters in what amounts to a novella, but the author succeeded in weaving plenty of background info for both James and Mika into the plot. It's also admirable how well this book worked for me, considering that most of this novel takes place in an airport - there's not a potential for change of scenery, and you're somewhat limited in what you can get your characters into.

The characters had immediate chemistry, and none of it felt forced. The attraction burns brightly from the start, despite James' prank (that was so funny) and Mika snagging the outlet when James isn't looking. They have a rough start, for sure, but ultimately, they both call a truce, give in to the attraction, and realize that there might just be something there.

I liked this a lot. It's a quick and easy read, and it just flows and flows, and before you can blink, they're in the family bathroom doing not-so-family-friendly things. Which, as fiery as the attraction was, isn't really a surprise.

The sweet epilogue just sealed the deal on this book - that was fabulous.

Recommended for when you need a little pick-me-up for a long lunch break or some such. This was a lot of fun to read.

This was cute!! The cover and blurb is what really got my attention. Even though I've never read anything by this author before, I wasn't nervous to read this. Likely due to the fact that it already had some good ratings. Anyway, this is how you do insta-love, people. This was just so realistic!! I mean, yeah there is still that level of improbability to this, but I completely bought their relationship!! And do you want to know what made this story different from all those other insta-love stories (that didn't work for me)? I'll tell ya': It's because they acknowledged it!!! They didn't gloss over their instant feelings or pretend they didn't exist. They actually were honest and spoke to each other about how crazy it was they felt this way after only knowing each other 6 hours. Bring the awkward into the light and go for it!

Mika “it’s Mee-kuh, not Micah" is a sarcastic young guy (23) who is very laid back and doesn't stress life. He strolls into the airport with just minutes to spare before boarding. Except the flight has been delayed due to weather.

James is Mika's complete opposite in that he worries about everything: being late, forgetting his phone/laptop charger, clothes, etc. He did an inspection of his hotel room possibly 5 times (it's not really said how many), and even though he had hours to spare before he needed to be at the airport, he just couldn't make himself do any sightseeing because he was worried there could be traffic or other delays which would make him miss his flight. (I can totally relate to ALL of this because I don't want to forget something at the hotel, nor would I be happy to miss my flight). And of course since James got the airport super early, his wait is now even longer due to the flight delay.

You wouldn't think these two could possibly get along, and you are right. They're enemies from the start when Mika cuts James in line for the phone charging station. And in the words of Mika later in the story - "this means war." As some crazy death stares and evil thoughts pervade these MC's heads, neither can ignore the fact that the other is so handsome. Mika nicknames James "Colgate" for his dazzling smile and GQ good looks. And James calls Mika "Rude Headphone Guy," but OMG he is so cute!, according the James. ;)

I was completely entertained by their antics and again, they admit it's weird for them to feel this connection so early in meeting and worry about how long lasting it could be. I 100% appreciated how the author handled this relationship and will point to this book right here as the template on how to correctly write insta-love. Have they only known each other for less than 10 hours? You bet your ass they do, but that doesn't stop them from having sex in the family bathroom at the airport.

I fully recommend this story and the epilogue - while super saccharine sweet - was the perfect ending.

That was the most creative and original meet-cute I've read in a very long time! I loved the way these two can't resist their attraction and keep coming back together. Their exchanges gradually become more endearing as they learn each others' soft spots, and I really enjoyed the alternating pov's as we see both how each character is feeling and how they view the others' perspective.

Quinn Anderson is a really wonderful author. All her stories are unique and interesting and I've laughed and smiled my way through the books I've read :) and I've purchased her backlog so I can read the ones I've missed.

I'm going with four stars on New Heights because it was creative, well written, and just made me feel good... I wouldn't mind another story about Mika and James.

This story is basically a chamber play. It's set at one single location, the airport, and it's not much more than the two protagonists. Usually I'm not a fan of this, but here it's fine, because it's short and quick. It's a novella and it takes place in one single day.

Sometimes it's really nice to read a short novella, because all the tropes that become so annoying in large novels are quite okay here. The third act drama that so often drags on and on, here it's over in the blink of an eye.

I liked the story and the airport setting. It's basically grumpy meets sunshine, with a trace of enemies to lovers. And the writing is really good.

What a cute little book! When I read the blurb, it seemed like something I might enjoy, but honestly, I liked it a lot more than I imagined I would.

New Heights has a pretty straight forward plot. It’s an opposites attract/enemies to lovers type story where the characters are so cute they melt your heart. While Mika (pronounced Mee-Ka, not MI-Ka. He hates when people get that wrong) is a tad on the ornery side, he’s not a bad guy, and James is a little uptight, but he’s not annoying.

Sparks fly between them immediately…beginning with annoyance and just the right amount of animosity, slowly growing to a begrudging peace treaty. The more James and Mika talked, they more depth was shown. It’s not a long book by any means, but it felt like there was enough time to know their personalities and what made them tick. I found there was a surprising amount of emotion, and I was so pleased. I don’t want to give anything else away, but I will say James and Mika discover things about themselves as they’re discovering things about each other.

Oh, hi there. Just your friendly neighborhood Quinn Anderson fangirl here. I've been reading a lot of books by this author lately, and funny thing, usually when I do this I start to get jaded and bored by the familiar writing style, repetitive wording, common themes. But Anderson is an exception. Each of her books have a distinct premise and well-crafted characters. New Heights was a joy to read.

We start with the cutest of meet-cutes, James-not-Jamie and Mika-not-Micah clashing heads over power outlets at the airport while waiting on a delayed flight. They're insta-rivals. One is super prepared and punctual and proper, the other jaded and last-minute and kinda rude. Their fight over the outlet escalates into cute pranks and casual flirting before they give in to their mutual attractions.

I couldn't help the comparisons to On Solid Ground. Not in that, like, the story is similar. Totally not. But in that the main chunk of the story takes place over a very short timeframe -- in this case, one day -- and you'd expect the insta-love to be real, but it's just not. Taking the passage of time out and just looking at the passage of pages, this book is remarkably slow-burn. There is phenomenal relationship building as James and Mika get to know each other. It isn't forced or fake-feeling. It's organic and believable. They're so different yet so much alike and it's clear how well they fit together. The character building and relationship building is superb.

This story is super sweet and made me smile, leaving me with a good feeling at the end. And I loved that we get an epilogue (that's the one thing I missed most in On Solid Ground) solidifying their HEA for us. Oh, and bonus points for South Carolina representation! My home state doesn't get enough book coverage. All in all, this is yet another great book by Quinn Anderson and I can't wait for more.

Ok so I know that we aren't supposed to judge a book by its cover... but this cover is seriously SOOOOO ADORABLE I was literally drawn to it from the start!! And guess what?!?! The story inside is seriously JUST AS CUTE! I'm talking super freaking adorable!

James Thompson is a rule follower. Like will follow every rule society has to offer and then some! With his innate goodness and kindness you'd expect the universe to treat him in kind. NOPE. Today is just not his day. His flight is delayed, some cute guy has stolen his charger space, and now the same cute guy has cut him in line. James decides it's time to stop being Mr. Nice Guy.

Mika Bailey never follows the rules. Whatever works for him better work for everyone else, too. When the cute guy he cut in line decides to stand up for himself, the two declare war.

This was seriously ADORABLE enemy to lovers goodness! This is a novella so it as rather short. Almost the entire book is set at the airport. However, none of it felt rushed at all! My only complaint is that I wanted more!!

James and Mika are seriously so perfect together. They bring out the right amount of rule following/breaking within each other. This book was told from alternating points of view. I really liked both of the characters as individuals and hearing their thoughts made it so fun to watch them fall for each other!!

New Heights is sweet, sexy and light! This is the perfect book to read if you are looking for something light and fun! It had me smiling the entire time!

This was super fun and entertaining... Hilarious, charming, sexy.

I love the buildup of the romance- how it manages to make sense even with the time factor. Everything seemed at the right pace, basically.

The characters worked fantastically, being complementary to one another, in their opposite nature. Opposites attract never worked better than here! And their character development felt so realistic and amazing... Almost like their story embodies what's supposed to be the recipe for a great relationship; they just work so well together.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, because it's Quinn Anderson after all, And I think I've already established that there's nothing this woman can't do. It's honestly like she keeps surpassing herself with each book she unleashes out into the world for us to enjoy and be delighted by. And boy do I live for it!

Last but not least, special mention for the fact that the protagonists of this story are from Charleston, South Carolina home of John Laurens, who kept popping in my head every time I had to read the name of the place, cause I'm weird like that

I loved this book. The whole thing takes place over maybe 8 hours whilst the 2 MCs are stuck in an airport during bad weather.
James ans Mika are at first deadly enemies who over a period of time discover they have alot in common.
Alot of laugh out loud moments especially with the colouring book.

Also frightening to realize I was alot like James.
Keeping checking the things in my bag, getting to the airport at least 3 hours early, well because you know, traffic.

So, if you haven't read this yet, why not?

What an exciting and unique story this is! Two young men meet under adverse circumstances at a small New York airport and after a series of misunderstandings, find their way to admitting their attraction for one another.

James Thompson is pretty obsessive about everything. He gives new meaning to making lists, being on time, crossing his t’s and dotting his i’s. So when he’s stranded at a small New York airport, he surprises even himself with the fact that his phone isn’t fully charged. And he’s shocked even more when he refuses to back away when a cute guy hogs the power outlet at the charging station. Mika Bailey (pronounced Mee-kuh) backs down for no man. Plus, he’s here on a boring work-related trip and isn’t really in a hurry to return to Charleston. Willing to wait, when he discovers his laptop and phone both need charging, he’s not apologetic when he takes advantage of the cute guy’s distraction and moves in for the outlet ahead of him.

This sets up a war, of sorts, with one young man trying to outguess and out think the other. It’s fun and when they start talking and bickering and finally giving up on the animosity and moving toward friendship, readers can have an ah-hah moment. This is a humorous easy-to-read story! The characters are endearing and lively and just perfect for one another. As each delay comes, the story gets better. I was at a point where I would have been happy to see them stay in the airport all night.

As crazy as it seems, though, even after only hours of knowing one another, these two are well on their way to a relationship. Flying home to Charleston together is only the first step. I hope the author brings them back in a future story because I’d love to see these two again.

I highly recommend this book. It clips along at an amazing and humorous pace. Just perfect to take on a trip or stay at home and snuggle up with for a few hours of fun reading and romance.

Mika and James meet at the airport in New York when their flight is delayed due to a winter storm. Although they start off rough as the day progresses and they get to know one another better, the instant attraction builds into something much more than just physical.

This was such a cute feel-good story. I absolutely loved James and Mika and I loved watching them bicker and prank one another throughout the hours they spent at the airport. They are complete polar opposites, but they brought out the best in each other and they fit together perfectly. Those differences balanced each other out and really worked.

The progression was a bit fast, but for James and Mika it worked and it didn’t feel rushed at all and they had amazing chemistry.

The story was well-written, funny, sweet and a bit sexy and the ending was swoon-worthy. This was a fabulous, quick and enjoyable read that I’d definitely recommend!

Honest review based on an ARC provided by Netgalley. Many thanks to the publisher for this opportunity.

If you want a silly grin from cover to cover, this is it.

James and Mika don't start on the right foot. Mika is simply rude and James too shy to put much of a fight and stand up for himself. On the outside, they seem to be perfect opposites but as the plane they're waiting gets delayed again and again, the two find out to have more in common than anyone would ever guess.

This was short, the kind to finish in one sit, and also the kind I was in dire need to reading. So cute, so funny! It's incredible how Quinn Anderson could establish credible chemistry between them with so little to use. They're complete strangers stuck in an airport and they don't get along from the start—with reason.

Even though there is one hot scene, this isn't a reason to get the book in my opinion. It really stands more on the fluffy side. Also, I really liked how Anderson didn't trust the "opposites attract" cliché and subtly made them see they also had similar points, that their differences weren't a thing about sexual chemistry either but ways to improve their shortcomings.

I've become a fan of Anderson's so I'm not the one to go for an unbiased opinion. So why not a higher rating? Because I don't think she intended to write a best seller. My impression was that she sat in front of her computer and said: "Let me have fun!" So, yes. Just a silly pastime. And that's what makes it work, actually. This wasn't some complex story, some dialogues are way too long, almost hot from press and little editing, and there could have been less talking and more action. Still it was perfect in what it wanted to be.

I started reading Ms Anderson’s book because after covering Henry James for our podcast and then reading a 1930’s crime novel, it was time for something a bit light.

I started to read the novel not thinking much about it and felt that it would be the fast food version of reading. Fill me up but empty once I closed the cover. I was to my own surprise very wrong. This is really an excellent read that is full of compassion, heart and comedy.

The two characters are very well drawn and the plot is very brave considering that outside of the first two chapters and the epilogue, it all takes place in one setting. This is a very daring move on the point of the author where one location can feel a bit stale after awhile but this is not the case as Ms Anderson expertly keeps things moving and exciting.

Without giving anything away, this is truly a great novel dealing with the human condition and emotions. I found myself smiling at the interchanges between the two main characters and again, the author has written a book with just two characters without anything getting dull.

If you are looking for a novel that is fun to read, makes you smile, makes you feel and something that you will remember long after the closing of the book, you really can not go wrong with this. I now have a book that I can start to recommend to almost everyone and not just a select few. Excellent and I am now going to start hunting out her past works. I am starting to become a big fan of Quinn Anderson.

This book should appear in the dictionary next to the phrase 'low angst romance' and I mean that as a positive thing. The writing was great, I liked the MCs and I appreciated that the author kept the plot moving and interesting while still sticking to the low angst plot formula she had chosen for the story. This is exactly the type of book I know people would love if they're looking for something simple and straightforward; there's a little hint of enemies to lovers, it's a little bit instalusty, there's a bit of conflict, there's some humor, there's a bit of sexy times - it's got a bit of everything. But that's my problem with it and why I couldn't rate it any higher - I needed a lot more of the angsty/darker aspects. The enemies part wasn't long enough, the conflict the MCs were dealing with (in the form of personal problems that they both helped each other with) were solved way too quickly and easily and the lack of chemistry between them meant I didn't enjoy their romance as much as I wanted to. That being said, just because it wasn't my preferred cup of tea didn't mean I didn't enjoy drinking it and I'm definitely going to continue reading this author's work. If you're a fan of low angst romances, I highly recommend this one! I'm pretty sure it'll hit the spot.

New Heights was one of my reading highlights of all time ♡

#foreverfavorite

It’s fun, sweet, fun, sexy, fun, charming, fun, cute, oh and fun!

James and Mika don’t hit it off from the start but I took an instant liking to both.

Stranded in an airport (a setting which I enjoyed greatly), both guys are in a crappy mood (understandably so, you have to read it to find out why ;) ) and their first meeting ends with a declaration of war. Oh! THOSE BOYS!!! ♡♡♡♡♡

I ADORE MIKA TO BITS. He’s laid back, snarky, fun, loud, direct and just way too lovable. *sigh*

James is pretty much his polar opposite - pensive, over cautious and anxious.

I loved their antics, their little fights and the dialogue made for a fantastic reading experience :)

When they do hit it off romantically - and of course they will, because, duh! opposites attract and all that jazz - it’s off the charts hot. They have great chemistry and can be super sweet together.

It's one of those books you wish would give you another five hours of entertainment, or twelve or twenty.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

ps: the cover is the cutest thing in the world. i want to steal it and make it mine.

This is only my second foray into Quinn Anderson's writing and...I'm thrilled! The first outing didn't go according to plan, but this one was a roaring success.

Adorable. Sweet. Hilarious. Snarky. Brilliant. All inadequate ways of describing this book.

Oh, and Riptide totally knocked the presentation out the park, once again. I can't say how nice it is to read a beautifully presented, formatted and illustrated book, even if it's only cute chapter headings and scene dividers. It makes a difference.

I fell in love with uncomfortable-in-his-own-skin James, right from the start. He and I are two peas in an uncomfortable pod, in the worst ways. Always over cautious, over critical, think things through way too far, and with huge social anxiety that has him second guessing himself at every step. Yup. Basically just described myself, too. So, right off the bat, I felt it. I knew where James was coming from and I felt sad that his sister, and basically everyone else in the world, including evil-ex-boyfriend David, were so hell bent on changing him and making him feel bad for being his awkward self.

Then, in walks Mika – and really, who the heck calls someone with that name Micah? – who has all the snark and the confidence and the brazen attitude to knock James on his ass. Not literally, though at times it felt like it might escalate that far. But, no. They kept their little airport war to hilarious, but safe, proportions, pulling pranks and getting payback for silly slights that strangers give all the time. Only, here, it was personal. In the best way.

Yes, there was instant attraction. That's the basis for most good novels, because, let's be realistic, if they're not attracted to each other, there are very few other things that can bring two folk together into a budding relationship, while still being believable. Right here, the attraction is an annoying side note to the growing feud, and then arch-nemesis status, which quickly becomes grudging friendship and then HOLY HOT sex. (And, yes, that needs capitals.)

At first, they seem like total opposites, but the more they interact, the more you can see them being similar in little subtle ways, and playfully skirting around the obvious tension in the room. There was great chemistry, right from the first stolen charger to the last boat ticket. These two were off the charts perfect for each other, but not in a way that felt forced or unbelievable, or reckless. They both went in with their eyes open, both fought the tension and the inevitable as long as they could. And I absolutely love that they really, truly spent time getting to know each other, before anything hot happened. I hate when they claim to make that connection, but we don't ever get to see it, or the conversation is actually really superficial. These boys dove deep into the dark end of the secret pool and helped each other deal with some real issues.

Characterisation was spot on. From the annoying little sister (which, in this case, would be me, so I know it well) to the evil user that is David, all the side characters had their own unique personalities that were nicely explored, despite most of them never appearing on page. I loved George and his innate ability to make his first meeting with James so awkward. And, obviously, I loved James and Mika to pieces. Utterly and completely.

And I want to add a huge Thank You to the author for that Epilogue. I know that I could have been perfectly happy with the ending as it was, but the Epilogue added a little something special that had me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. So thanks for that.

~

Favourite Quote

“I get that as a little sister you're contractually obligated to be annoying, but please feel free to take some time off.”

“Perhaps this was James's punishment. This airport was Purgatory, and he was doomed to spend eternity with mysterious strangers, confused feelings, and regret.”

“Can you imagine me in prison? They'd use me as currency.”

This is a cute romance about two totally opposite (or are they?) guys who are both stuck in an airport in New York City waiting for their delayed flight. Everyone is pretty dang crabby to be stuck there, as you can imagine, and hilarity ensues. I love the opposites attract element to this story (with a dash of enemies to lovers), while at the same time James and Mika aren't opposites so much as two differently shaped puzzle pieces that fit together. (I definitely think James is an edge piece...) Their bumps and misunderstandings feel authentic, and while this definitely has a big dollop of insta-love to it, having both characters acknowledge how bizarre and crazy their immediate attraction is helps me be a little more ok with that. I love that Mika brings out the sass and strength in James, and in turn James helps ground Mika. They're just so great together.

This was a really quick read, I'm not sure if that's because it's actually short or if it's just because I refused to put it down until I'd read the whole thing.

This was an interesting read because it takes place almost entirely at the airport over an extremely short period of time. It is the story of James and Mika, who are stuck in New York because their flight to Charleston keeps getting delayed. Starting off as enemies, evolving into pranking each other and slowly realizing, as they call a truce, that this might just be something. And that is scary as anything because it’s instant and they know it.

The problem is Mika wants just some sex and out (or so he says) and James is just one of those “meet them and move in” types. Or are they? It was a revelation to see these two come to some realizations about themselves, as well as how they don’t understand that the other person may not be reading things like they think. When Mika thinks he’s being rejected because “James was supposed to understand him, but instead James had written him off, just like the rest of them” it hurt my heart a little for both of them. Luckily Mika’s inner voice has some sense.

It’s a sweet, well written story solely focused on the meeting of these two (other than the epilogue) and I enjoyed it. Oh, and the pranks? Loved them.

James is a planner, a list maker. Mika is fly by the seat of his pants, a risk taker.

They meet up at the airport, where the story is set, both coincidentally headed for the same flight. Due to a series of unforeseen circumstances, they are thrown together at every turn.

The clash of their polar opposite personalities leads to some hilarious high jinks. One prank in particular had me rolling on the floor. With every snarky comment or cheap shot, the guys start developing real feelings for each other.

I loved both of these guys. The entire story is absolutely adorable. The dialogue is sharp and witty. The romance is sweet. This is a definite re-read for me when I'm feeling down.

I must applaud Quinn Anderson for her skill to write a complete story with complex characters and an actual plot within one hundred and forty pages. New Heights might be shorter story, but it's fully fleshed and captivating.

James and Mika couldn't be more different from each other, as James is often anxious and prepares for everything to the point that he goes to the airport hours earlier than needed, while Mika don't have patience for any waiting and lines at the airport - no, Mika leaves all travelling to the last minute, even preferring to be late on his flight to be too early. It was interesting to see, what happened once James and Mika's paths crossed at the airport, where they had to wait for their delayed flight back to Charleston. I loved the chemistry between James and Mika, whether they got along or not. I was able to identify with James, especially with his anxious behaviour when it comes to travelling. In a side note, it was very refreshing to see a Finnish name - Mika - in this, and I'm very familiar with Mika's frustrations because people don't know how to pronounce his name.

New Heights was cute and captivating story, and while I'd loved to read more, it's perfect just the way it is. I definitely recommend to check it out!

Such a cute, cute story!!!! Mika and James meet in the airport and at first, well. let's just say it's more annoyed at first sight then love at first site. The majority of this story takes place while the two are in the airport, and it is full of snarky banter, witty pranks, and honestly, innocent flirty-ness. The two spend time together, talking, and then it's love at first site. The two send some quality time getting to know each other really, really well then it's time for the flight to take off. And though they live in the same city, the two think their baggage will prevent the relationship from being anything more. Oh but these boys were so wrong.

Overall, I enjoyed this little story. It was a quick easy read that kept my interest with enjoyable characters!

I absolutely adored NEW HEIGHTS! It was funny, sweet, and sexy at the same time. The setting of being stranded in an airport due to a delayed flight was great because there's nothing people hate more than being stuck at the airport with nothing to do, nowhere to sit, and nowhere to charge your phone. It was also a great combination of the airport savvy Mika who travels all the time and the newbie James who doesn't travel very much. As far as opposites attract story goes these two were definitely very different but at their core they were both looking for the same thing and they both knew they had some rough edges that needed to be smoothed out if they wanted to be happier. It's true what they say that sometimes it's easier to tell a stranger things you've never told anyone else or even admitted to yourself and the story plays on that as James and Mika finally come to a truce and begin to talk. It was these types of scenes that really had me believing the chemistry and the quickly developing feelings for these characters even though they spend less than a day together. This story was just so endearing and it had me smiling the whole time I was reading it.

Both characters together were wonderful and they really did bring out the best in each other in ways that prior relationships did not. But I also loved James and Mika individually as characters and found myself relating in different ways to each of them. I very easily connected with James's super organized personality and his anxiety about being late to things so he ends up showing up really early. I also love how nice James was, even when he's angry at Mika he still gives him the benefit of the doubt and doesn't judge him too harshly. James is just a genuinely nice person that you can't help but like. Mika is a bit more standoffish mostly because he's used sarcasm his whole life to keep people at a distance and he goes by the mentality that it's better for him to push people away before they can do the same to him. But even with all of that he's not a bad guy and we can see that through little instances like when he buys James's meal for him. Micah's shell might be a little hard to crack but the reader can clearly see that he doesn't want to be so defensive, he's just not sure how to do it and he hasn't found someone that's willing to be patient while he works on it.

I enjoyed every part of this book and quickly devoured it, only stopping because work forced me to; otherwise I would have just kept reading! Great pacing and smooth writing lend to a great story that feels much longer than its actual page count. With truly likable characters and a fun romance, I will definitely be reading more books by Quinn Anderson.

ARC from NetGalley

There’s gotta be something wrong with me. A stranger is glaring at me, and I think it’s hot.

An adorable little book with two cute guys, feelings all over the place, and with the right amount of cheese. I kept smiling and it made me feel good. Will I find my soul mate at the airport one day? Will they be there for me to find? I sure hope so; I'm in need of a little cheese in my cheeseless life.

James is just like me, anxious about the little things, afraid of being late, of missing his flight back home, of forgetting something at the hotel. He is a thousand hours early to the airport and if that’s not me, I don’t know what is. You never know what can happen so it’s best to be early and wait rather than run for your life not to miss your flight.

“No! Someone as fun and easygoing as you doesn’t drink ? I never would have guessed.”
“Hey, I’m fun.”
“Uh-huh. You put the ‘fun’ in ‘funeral.’”

Totally opposite to James is Mika. He travels for work, is carefree and really could be at the airport one minute before embarking and he’d still be chill about the whole situation. I don’t know if I envy him or if he makes me more anxious than I usually am. He hates people mispronouncing his name and I can understand it because, come on, Mika is clearly not Micah. It’s so easy that it’s really infuriating people not saying is right. I feel for you Mika, even if my name is not one that tends to be said wrong.

James and Mika start a sort of airport war after their flight gets delayed and they are forced to take turns to charge their electronic stuff. Little pranks, conversations and a few drinks later, it’s pretty obvious they want to be in each other pants and I don’t blame them. They’re both hot, single, they have time to kill, so why not? Oh well, you have to read it to see the feelings flying around an airport I didn’t know existed until yesterday. How they change a bit in just a few pages and it’s not forced, not rushed. It’s a short book yet everything is in the right place.

“I didn’t notice the color of his eyes, sir.”
Of course you didn’t. Because you’re not as weird and inappropriate as I am.

You think, yes, this can happen. This maybe has already happened to somebody. Because, why not? Airports are not really a place where you meet someone you can fall in love with, but it’s not impossible, right? Hard, yes but if fate tries to set you up, why would you turn down the opportunity?

Adorable and funny, short and hard to put down once you start it. It’s the perfect book to read if you need a little bit of cheese and if you need to smile a bit. I needed it.

The story begin with James who arrived so early at the airport on his way back to Charleston just to find out that the flight got delayed for few hours. As if that's not enough, then come a guy who cut the line and snaked the last charger at the charging station he'd been waiting for half an hour without even feels sorry.

Even the guy look so deliciously handsome, but to James he just 'a Rude Headphones Guy' to him because what he just did to him. And that's mean a war!

Mika (It’s Mee-kuh, not May-kuh!) thought that he will be missed his flight due to the traffic at the rush hour. But when he arrived at the airport within last minute just to find out that his flight just got delayed.

Joining with the sea of another passengers whose flight also got delayed, Mike then took seat near the charger station and plugged his phone to the charger. His act then got protest from a guy who insisted that he'd been there early and was in the next line to charge his phone when Mika cut his line.

The guy looks handsome with his blond hair and smile which remind him of the guy from Colgate guy commercial. Even feels a bit sorry for what he'd doing and had made the guy stare his dead glare to him after that, but there's something in that Colgate guy who catch his attention that want him to tease him more.

But when the Colgate guy cast his 'revenge' by 'humiliated' him in public and 'steal' his USB cord, that's mean a war!

And that's how this fun and light story begin...

Well, I can say that it's love at the first fight.

The book cover looks cute and caught my attention and the blurb seems adorable and tickling the curiosity in me. So, I decided to pick the book and read in in one sit.

The story was hilarious funny at almost the whole part, the friendnemies-to-lovers totally filled the air and could put a smile on your face almost the entire reading, the romance was good, the sexual tensions was high (but nothing had happen until the very last chapter), the pace is good with adorkable and lovely characters, and it's all put together in a good writing.

How the author slowly start the story with funny and almost 'child-like-tug-of-war' and prank between the two MC's and then moved to a truce moment and then ends up talking for hours and working through issues they’ve been struggling with for years, everything feels so smooth and natural.
And that what's make the story feels enjoyable enough to read.

James and Mika had come together like puzzle pieces. And I recommended this fun-light reading to all!

New Heights is a fun, flirty, and quick read. It's pretty much the Odd Couple meets The Terminal.

Anderson's story takes an adorable spin on the "what if?" possibilities of a small airport, in the "meet cute" for her leading men.

James and Mika strike up an insta-battle when one smooth aka rude move from Mika sets the two men against each other. As they can't stop looking at each other (secret, longing glances) or trying to get revenge, the attraction between them bubbles over.

I could totally relate to James in all of his A-type, triple checking the list, arriving hours early glory. To me, he makes perfect sense. Mika, on the other hand, was SUPER removed from what I can relate to, but that's what made him fun. He's the snark to James's constant politeness, the blunt force to James's careful comments, and a total wake-up call. And, totally have to say, I love a bit of snark.

I liked that the guys were total foils to each other; it made their attraction more genuine. Had they been totally similar, I think their romantic chemistry would have been less believable. Since James was still "hungover" from his last relationship, and Mika is stuck in a total lackthereof, they both need something different to shock their systems.

Their banter felt realistic, and I think Anderson develops their attraction well, especially given the short length of the story. I WANT the two of them to get together, and I love stories that make me root for the leading couple.

By the way, it's worth mentioning that there's an adorable epilogue that makes me wish there was a follow up story.

4.5 Stars!!!

I absolutely adored this book! It was sweet and fun and hot all wrapped up in a neat opposites-attract package.

Mika and James couldn't be more different if they tried and while that made them clash when they met, they ended up bringing out the best in each other, making them each grow as a person in the process. I loved their back-and-forth banter and the fun pranks. It was great seeing sweet, yet high-strung James let go a bit and easygoing Mika realize that more than a hookup, he wanted someone that would take him seriously.

The chemistry between them was electric and while they gave into their attraction pretty quickly timewise, it never felt rushed.

Overall, while I won't claim I've read every book by Quinn Anderson, the ones I've read I've loved and this wasn't the exception. It was a hot, sweet, low angst read with the most delightful epilogue and I'm sure I'll read it again. Very recommendable!

A lovely story about two guys who meet in a airport and surprisingly find love together. When Mika and James first meet they dont hit it off at all. Mika is rude and pushy, and James is taken aback by the good looking, obnoxious man who pushes in front of him. James is also rather surprised by their second encounter and he stands up to Mika and gives him a good telling off. Mika apologises but the die has been cast.

None of this friction is helped by the delayed flight and eventually the friction between the two men ignites the flames of attraction but is this enough? Can two men who have very different personalities, rise above their antagonistic beginnings to find something beautiful together?

I thought this was an amusing story with interesting characters. James is a bit of a door mat and has allowed previous boyfriends to walk all over him. Mika is so laid back that he could fall over but he is also quick to make sure that the world works for him and this means pushing back. When he meets James he is surprised to meet someone who can give as good as he gets. What Mika doesn't know is that James is also surprised by his own response to Mika because he is normally such a doormat.

This is a lovely 'opposites attract' story. I cant say that it will stay with me forever, but it is entertaining with good characters.
