No. Just no. I thought this would be fun in a low-key way, being able to name off Krypto, Streaky, Comet and Beppo. But this book would have you believe that most DC heroes, and villains, have pets with superpowers, including Deathstroke, Cyborg, Martian Manhunter, The Flash and every member of the Green Lantern Corps. Some of these entries feel made up on the spot. I don't have the time remaining in my life to crossreference every entry in this 'encyclopedia', but it's a hunch I have. Not fun. Overly kiddified. I shouldn't be this surprised.

DC SUPERPETS ARE, WELL…. SUPER!

I was lucky to snag a copy of DC SuperPets to review… naturally in exchange for an HONEST review. Not the usual fare for my Kindle, and I believe this is actually going to be a print book coming out in September (?) 2013, but I was able to pull the efile with good ole Adobe Digital Editions (http://www.adobe.com/products/digital...) and read it on my computer. Little Dude is LOVING it! I’m actually surprised he let me have my computer back in order for me to WRITE this review! Moms (& closet comic book fans), keep an eye out for this book – it’ll be well worth any purchase price!

Things I loved about it:

Bright, colorful, engaging colors throughout the whole book
The cartoon characters have a new “twist” to their look – not the same ole, same ole – but so darn close that you know immediately who they are
Each page offers a joke… and trust me, you will hear them repeated back to you over & over & over & over…!
The contents page itself is awesome — with the age range of the book geared toward the 6-8 year old bracket, you’re looking at beginner readers… and the contents page is simply a headshot of the SuperPet with the page number underneath it. I’ve found it to be great because some of the names are beyond Little Dude’s reading skills, but he can open to the front, find the SuperPet he wants to know about, and then find the page himself. Gives him a bit more “ownership” of the reading process & helps to increase his self-confidence (super idea, DC Comics – Moms everywhere applaud you!!).
Each page actually looks like a trading card – well suited to this generation! The bottom shows headshots of “Allies” and “Foes” (which means the child can then follow along by looking at the aforementioned index). There are “stats” listed for each SuperPet. There is also a full-length “picture” of the SuperHero that is affiliated with the SuperPet.
Not only are the SuperPets featured, but there are entries for the VILLAINS, too!
At the end of each section, there is a “Size Chart” with all the SuperPets / Villains so you can see how they stack up against each other.

I really didn’t find anything about this book that bothered me. I think it is a great addition to the DC Comics “Reader” line-up – and I’ve already promised Little Dude that when it releases, we will purchase it in hard print so that he can take it with him at night for bedtime reading!

As someone who loves superheroes and animals I knew I had to check out this book. I may not be as informed as some comic lovers but I find myself fairly knowledgeable. Either way, I gave this book a read and while it’s not geared to my age group I did enjoy it.

I’m not entirely sure but I believe this guide is geared towards fans of the Tiny Titans comic book series. That series itself is light hearted with its adorably drawn style and cute jokes. Some of the jokes are even fun little throw backs to their normal canons.

That said this book covers the pets of these super heroes and super villains. Honestly I wasn’t aware there were that many. Granted I know some of the more obscure ones ( Do I get points for knowing Wonder Woman had a kangaroo like animal named Jumpa?) but there are still a lot more super pets then I expected.

My expectations aside besides the adorable art style I like how the information is set up. The set up includes a main picture of the character with some attributes pointed out about the character. Most times there will be stats though for some stats can be shorter. Most likely because the characters in question didn’t have as much information in comics background.

Some of the pets made me laugh. Not for the sheer ridiculousness of some of the pets but rather from the naming or themes. Granted children aren’t going to get the joke about Raven’s pet being named Lenore but it’s still funny. And I had a good chuckle at Thud’s entry by the way. It was amusing.

My son has outgrown the DC Super-Pets now but at one time they were his absolute favourite books. He just loved them! When I saw this encyclopedia I was thrilled and just knew how much he would have loved this and wished he was little again. After reading a Super-Pet book, he would always love to spend so much time looking at all the pets at the back of the book and figure out which ones he had read about, which pet belonged to which superhero/villain, what their names were etc. I can just imagine if he'd been able to have this book at hand. All the information is here. Presented just like the opening pages of each Super-Pet book is a Stats page giving all the details on each pet. The book is divided into Super Heroes first and Villains second. The end of the Heroes section even has a "History of" page telling the origin of the Super-Pets. The Super-Pets weren't made up for this series but actually have been around since the 1940s! This is a must have book for any DC Super-Pets fan and will be a book they spend a lot of time browsing through and looking up info. Recommended!

This is a fun collection of super-pets (both hero and villain)with all the information you would like to know about them. I was pretty confident that I knew my super heroes, but I found out about pets I had never heard of before. Did you know that the Green Arrow has a pet porcupine named Quiver? He looks really cute with his custom-sized bow. And I found out the Joker has a laughing hyena named Crackers. His fur even matches the Joker's crazy green hair color. Each entry tells you the species, birthplace, food, weaknesses, allies, foes, and owner of each pet. There is a clearly labeled picture which points out their abilities, weapons, and costume. With so many super characters to keep track of, this is a handy guide for any fan.

I read an e-book provided by the publisher through NetGalley.

I was super excited to get to review this book, basically because I love superheroes, and animals so naturally it was right up my alley- even if that alley is geared toward 13 year olds. Oops.
This book was just really fun. They have the main pets all lined out with some interesting things about them, as well as their super hero (or villain) owners. I loved the way they had everything laid out and put together. It was really, really, well done.
Of course, my favorite thing about this book was the illustrations, they are so cute and awesome. I love the way that they portrayed all the characters and everything. If I were a small child, I'd be stoked out of my mind to get this book!

I am not the audience for this book. I want more information about all of the characters - is the golden necklace really superpowered? What issue of the original comics introduced Nightwing's monkey? DO all of these characters originate in the DC universe prior to the creation of the DC Super-Pets brand?

Because to me, this comes off as just a marketing piece, with not nearly enough information to be called an actual encyclopedia. But I know that's the trend with these "Character Encyclopedias" for kids. So maybe I shouldn't judge. Rah.

This book is great! I read it together with my kids and they had a great time with it! They loved that it included some of their favorite heroes and pets from Super-Pets, Tiny Titans and all the DC Comics. The art is typical of Art Baltazar's work- super fun and cute! There are all kinds of cool backstories for the pets and even a section describing the comics cannon origins of some of the characters. I think any child or adult would love to read this fun book!

"Super-Pets" is a cute little book good for young children who love animals, superheroes, and animal superheroes. As well as an older audience who would also enjoy the cuteness as well a recognize Easter Eggs. A lot of pets here are created for the book but many have also been in comics for years like Krypto the Superdog and Ace the Bathound.

Perfect for very young readers and also those learning to read.

Such a CUTE book. Intensive colors, great graphics, funny little tidbits, it covers every pet to every hero and villain. Kids who love DC should love this book. Filled with pictures and trivia, although not too much in depth information (a lot of these don't have much of a backstory...) They also have separate pages for the different leagues these pets make up. Recommended.

I consistently refer to this as the best investment I have ever made when it comes to Amazon or comics in general. I am not exaggerating one bit.
