It's Christmastime both in my current reality and in Mistletoe, Maine... but a whole year has passed since the debut book in the 'A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery' series by Jacqueline Frost. This second book, 'Twas the Knife Before Christmas, picks up with Holly's eventual settlement back home, a new friendship with reporter Ray, adventures with best friend Caroline, and romance with sorta boyfriend Evan (the sheriff!). Life's good until Derek, a guy who was too handsy with Caroline, ends up knifed in a candy display. Did Caroline kill him in revenge? Her high-powered father? A stalker crush who seems to want to protect her? Or some colleague of Derek's who thought he was a threat? Holly is determined to protect her bestie but she starts getting threatening notes again just like last time. Are the crimes connected?

I won this book through a cozy giveaway, but I went back and ordered the first one on my own so I could be ready and current on the series. I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon it and would definitely recommend the series as a definite holiday read. Holly is a great protagonist who only has a few pushy moments while trying to solve the murder; they're necessary and make her even more relatable. The town is visibly pictured as a result of Frost's wonderful descriptions and writing style. The little fun factors (Theodore the goat, Cindy Lou Who the cat, Cookie the rich neighbor... the list goes on) make it even more enjoyable.

The murder is clever. The list of suspects is believable. The investigation is paced well -- not too slow, not too fast. The way the criminal is captured is kinda cool. And the resolution to all the stories is a great end to the book. I am thrilled about the character of Libby. She seems like she could really be an asset in the town but also shake it up a little. Only 23 but quite smart and worldly already. I'm very excited about this new series but sad I'll have to wait a full year to read the next one. I'm also curious if the series will skip a year again or pick up sometime mid-year. Kudos to the author and publisher for providing a copy thru the giveaway contest. 4.25 stars!

A return visit to Mistletoe, Maine is just like going home for Christmas. It’s all there, whether you’re on Main Street bedecked with the trimmings of the season, everyone offering hugs and warm greetings as they rush about trying to finish their holiday shopping, or appreciating mom’s home-baked fresh from the oven cookies and admiring dad’s overzealous outdoor decorations. No matter where you are, you’re surrounded by Christmas and you can’t help but be enveloped by cheer and goodwill.

I thought this second book had a bit more heart-pounding suspense than the first but a little less romance. In fact, as I began the book it seemed like the romance between Holly and the sheriff had fizzled out completely. I wasn’t sure what had happened and an explanation wasn’t quickly forthcoming, so I spent much of the book thinking that Holly should consider dating Ray. If you, like me, think that Sheriff Gray and Holly are a darling couple, then you’ll get a satisfactory, though maybe not entirely likeable, answer as to their relationship status.

Although the romance element wasn’t as prominent this time, I still love this cozy Christmas series. I enjoy the light romance, the mystery, and the delights of the season. I’m hoping the next book in the series will continue with some exciting and suspenseful scenes as well as bring back more than a hint of a romance for our amateur sleuth.

‘Twas the Knife Before Christmas by Jacqueline Frost is the second book of the cozy A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series. Each book in the series has it’s own mystery to be solved so they can be understood as a standalone. However, the characters do return from the first book so there is a bit of character building carried over from book to book.

In the first book of the series Holly White had returned back home to her parents Christmas Tree farm in Mistletoe, Maine after her fiance had broken up with her two weeks before their wedding. After jumping in and helping her parents to take her mind off of her troubles Holly had begun to feel at home again and decided to stay in Mistletoe.

Now a year later Holly has made plenty of friends in the small town and has a slight love interest in her life with things going well for her and her parents business. However when a body is discovered that Holly’s friend Caroline had been seen fighting with the night before along with her monogrammed knife Holly finds herself again looking to find a killer to clear her friend’s name.

A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series is definitely one for those that absolutely adore the Christmas holiday. Each book is just filled to the brim with holiday goodness from the events going on to Holly’s pet cat, Cindy Lou Who. As silly as some may seem it never fails to put a smile on my face and buried within all of the over the top holiday happenings there’s also a pretty solid mystery to solve to keep readers guessing and turning the pages. Can’t wait to see what happens next to Holly and the residents of Mistletoe.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.

When a body is discovered just before a Christmas tree lighting, Holly White has to work to clear her best friend Caroline’s name—particularly since she and her cupcake shop may be implicated in the murder. This was a fun Christmas cozy that has everything I look for in a cozy mystery—not too scary, check. Fun town and characters, check. For a Christmas book, going all five out of five candy canes on the holiday cheer. Definitely check. Holly’s family runs a Christmas tree farm. They’re building a cozy inn. There are Santa impersonators. Cold Maine weather. Romance with the town sheriff. Mistletoe and kissing all over town. Christmas shoppers. It’s about as Christmas-y as you can get!🎄🎅 A nice holiday cozy mystery read.

"Escape to Mistletoe, Maine, with this charming Christmas cozy that's dripping with holiday cheer!

With a town named Mistletoe, a Christmas tree farm called Reindeer Games, and a cat named Cindy Lou Who, you'll be immersed in holiday spirit from the very first page. This is the second book in the Christmas Tree Farm cozy mystery series, but it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. (Though I highly recommend checking out the first book, too - you won't be disappointed!)

Holly has settled back into life in Mistletoe after returning home a year ago. But when a body is found in a bowl full of peppermint candies, and her BFF Caroline becomes the prime suspect, Holly puts on her sleuthing cap to prove her bestie's innocence. This smart mystery kept me guessing until the very end!

The festive setting, quirky characters, and cleverly plotted mystery make this a perfect holiday read. Add this charming series to your TBR list today—you have a whole year to catch up before the next book arrives!"

You know what’s better than Hallmark Christmas movies? Hallmark COZY MYSTERY movies. Because those suckas play all damn year long. And Candace Cameron Bure stars in one batch of those too (Real Murders series - books by Charlaine Harris – if curiosity is killin’ yo cat). So does Aunt Becky and I’m soooooo sad that there will be no more Sunday editions of . . . .

Kids ruin everything!

Alright, here’s a little confession. Last Christmas I picked up The Twelve Slays of Christmas from the library and then saw that there was a book two – and immediately got butthurt and complained whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy didn’t the library have it and on and on because I am horrible. And then I turned around and looked in my “basket of shame” full of ARCs that I keep not reading despite always asking for more ARCs and . . . . .

Like I said, I’m horrible. Anyway, if you like cozies and you like Christmas this is sure to be a winner. This time the dead body is found stuffed in a “guess how many mints are in this big ol’ glass” and the suspect is the leading lady Holly’s bestie. And maybe Santa is in it. Or maybe not because that would just be crazy, right? I mean, everyone knows he’s not real.

I read the first installment for my last year’s Christmas holiday binge and it was a cute story, so I thought I would read this year’s installment. Last year, Holly had recently moved back home after a break-up and she and the new Sheriff, Evan, developed an attraction and eventually started dating while investigating who was targeting Holly’s family and trying to kill her. This story picks up the following Christmas.

The book summary pretty much lays out the primary storyline, so I’m not going to repeat it here. What the book summary doesn’t mention is that Derick (Caroline’s dead date) is a misogynistic scumbag and the reason they were fighting was because she was fighting off his unwelcome advances. There are also a handful of suspicious characters that had motive to do Derick in. There is also a secondary storyline (kind of) of why the attraction and interest between Evan and Holly has now fizzled out and they have been pretty distant and hardly speaking for months.

Most of the story revolves around the investigation of Derick’s murder while trying to avoid Derick’s pissed off ex-girlfriend, who he broke up with the night before his date with Caroline and he ended up dead. Holly and Caroline also try to find out what is going on with Evan, because they are certain something is going on with him.

I enjoyed the continuing character development of the MC’s, Holly, Evan, and Caroline. The pacing was like most holiday cozy mystery so no surprises or disappointments. I liked the storylines in this one more than the first one. The murder mystery storyline was more interesting and the scenes scarier and more intense. The writing was entertaining, at least, for a holiday, cozy mystery. I actually liked this installment more and have decided to read the next one in the series because it revolves around the opening of Holly’s parent’s inn for their family tree farm and holiday events. I’m looking at an overall rating of 3.7 that I’m going to round up to a 4star review.

Unfortunately, I didn't quite love this one as much as I did the first book in the series. The mystery aspect was well done. I still really enjoy that setting and the overall festive feeling. It has a great cast of characters. Holly is still a very likable heroine.

description

However, the whole Ethan and Holly "romance" was just odd. At the end of the last book they kissed, and it seemed like they were headed towards Coupeville, then at the beginning of this book, you find out that after that kiss they have barely said two words to each other for the entire year. Halfway through you find out the reason why (and it was kind of a weak excuse in my opinion), then things seem to be more on track (we even get a kiss AGAIN), and then at the end Ethan basically tells her the next year is going to be the same as the previous one. He will be gone a lot so they won't see each other much. He won't be able to talk to her about it. At this point, I would rather see Holly get with Ray since they seem to have WAY more chemistry together as friends than her and Ethan.

description

Last, I said this in my last review, but this book would have been a bit more special if the author had included some of the recipes for the things mentioned in the book. All in all, it was an OK read, and I enjoyed it enough to pick up the next book in the series.

Dollycas’s Thoughts

Mistletoe, Maine, the perfect place to celebrate Christmas. Holly White’s family’s tree farm is a magical place this time of year with its Reindeer Games. All kinds of treats and festivities are planned and a contractor named Christopher has promised their new inn will be ready to open by Christmas Eve.

The first big Mistletoe event is the annual tree lighting. Everyone is gathered in the town square but when the big moment arrives the night turns from Merry to Scary. There, next to the tree is a huge candy dish full of peppermint candies and a dead body. The man was stabbed with a monogrammed custom made knife. A knife that belongs to Holly’s best friend Caroline. The deceased is the same man that got handsy with Caroline at a recent dinner and the whole town was witness to her dressing him down. With all the evidence it isn’t long before Caroline is behind bars. Holly knows her friend is no killer, she just has to prove it. But the killer is watching every move Holly makes and leaving her special warning gifts. When the gifts escalate to real harm Holly just hopes she will survive until the killer is caught.

I loved the first book in this series, Twelve Slays of Christmas last year, so I put this book on my reading calendar several months ago. I was so excited to start reading and the author exceeded all my expectations.

The White family are such wonderful characters. They make everyone feel right at home and try to make their tree farm experience as merry as possible. Holly hands her hands full as she has been put in charge of all the building choices for the new inn, in addition to helping her mother in the cafe and making her glass jewelry, a business that has really taken off.

I wanted to sit back with a couple of cups of hot chocolate and savor my visit to Mistletoe, but there is so much happening that was impossible. The author sets a brisk pace and fully draws the reader in. Chasing down clues, running from a creepy Claus, keeping up with the tourists, Holly takes on a wild ride, at times literally! The pages were flying.

Ms. Frost’s descriptions really take us there. A sleigh ride around the tree farm was described in such vivid detail, I was enjoying the scenery and after a scary moment, I was feeling chilled to the bone and was pulling a blanket over myself. The blindfolded games played were also described so well. I easily pictured what was happening and was laughing at loud. Great ideas for family get-togethers too. I also enjoyed the details along the way as the inn neared completion and the entire subplot was heartwarming. I am ready to call in my reservation today.

This was an exciting holiday read, cozy mystery lovers will be overjoyed. It will also get you truly into the holiday spirit. Fun and entertaining, a book you will not want to put down. I loved it and I can’t wait for next year. I already have saved a date on my calendar and added this story to my Best Reads List for 2018.

I enjoyed this second book of the series, despite the strong similarities in the plot to the first book. A member of Holly White's circle is implicated in a murder. Holly can't quit thinking about it and can't restrain herself from asking questions about the people who are potentially involved. Threats start arriving almost immediately. At the end of book one, it seemed to be a pretty sure thing that Holly and the sheriff would be romantically involved, but since then their bond has cooled. He has less patience with Holly's independent investigation in this volume (and truly who can blame him?) His concern this time seems much more professional than personal.

Holly’s workload is exhausting! She works in her mother's restaurant, runs Christmas contests outdoors, makes kitschy Christmas jewelry which she sells online, and is supervising the construction of a new inn, which her parents intend her to run. Plus she goes to town regularly to pursue her notions about the murder and spends time with her close friends (albeit often multitasking with one of her aforementioned activities). That kind of schedule would kill wear me right out, plus the unrelenting Christmas themed life would turn me into a Scrooge in no time. Bah, humbug!

One of my favourite details of the book is Holly's rescue cat, Cindy Lou Who (what an inspired name). She is demanding, moody, and rarely affectionate. She regularly dumps her food and water bowls and then loudly demands they be refilled. To Holly's credit, she cleans up and fills bowls with no resentment at all.

Frost gives us several plausible red herrings and plenty of distractions. I didn't positively identify the murderer until Holly did. Frost didn't give us much to work with in that regard to make the connections, so that's not too surprising. But it isn't Sheriff Evan who saves the day in this installment. The circumstances are fitting but not the slightest bit realistic. It's a Christmas miracle for sure.

There's a third book which I will read sooner or later, though I'm not sure what still needs to be resolved. However, I enjoy Frost's writing enough that I will gladly read it. I don't know about you, but I have slightly different standards for Christmas books--I'll put up with more schmaltz than at any other time of year!

‘TWAS THE KNIFE BEFORE CHRISTMAS (Christmas Tree Farm Mystery Book #2) by Jacqueline Frost is the second book in this entertaining and amusing amateur sleuth cozy holiday mystery series. They are set each Christmas season in small-town Mistletoe, Maine featuring Holly White and her family and friends. This can easily be read as a standalone holiday mystery case to be solved, but Holly’s personal relationships continue to grow and evolve in each book, so I have enjoyed reading them in order.

Holly and her best friend Caroline have arrived in the town square to participate in the evening’s festivities. When the cover is pulled off a giant bowl of peppermints, everyone is shocked to discover a dead body inside. It is Caroline’s date from the night before who got too handsy. Caroline yelled at and humiliated him on-line and now he is dead with one of Caroline’s monogrammed knives in the bowl with him. Sheriff Evan Grey has no choice but to follow the evidence and arrest Caroline.

Holly knows her friend is innocent and she is willing to do anything to prove it, even as the killer has left notes threatening her against interfering. Holly is once again on the hunt for a killer. With the help of her friends and a mysterious, magical contractor, can Holly stop a killer before he eliminates her?

I thoroughly enjoy all the characters in this series. They are so much fun, and their relationships are believable. Holly is a great main character with just the right amount of inquisitiveness mixed with pluck and determination. Her group of friends is growing, and I cannot wait to be reunited with them all in future books. The cozy mystery was well paced and plotted throughout with not only Caroline as a suspect, but several others. The twists and surprises kept me guessing to the end.

I highly recommend this festive holiday cozy mystery! Both books in this series are worth reading and I am so glad I stumbled upon this series.

Holly White’s best friend, Caroline had stood up for herself even though the argument had been public and heard by everyone. But when the next morning, Derek, the person she’d been arguing with, was found stabbed to death, thoughts immediately went to Caroline. It was made much worse by the discovery of her fingerprints on the murder weapon – and only hers. But the marble handled knife, which had her initials on it, had come from her shop – Caroline’s Cupcakes – so of course her prints would be on it…

Holly was determined to prove her friend’s innocence – but in the process directed attention to herself. The ongoing threats escalated with the Sheriff of Mistletoe demanding Holly keep away from the investigation and keep herself safe. But that just wasn’t in Holly’s nature – what would happen just a few days before Christmas in the little town of Mistletoe?

Twas the Knife Before Christmas is the 2nd in A Christmas Tree Farm Mystery series by Jacqueline Frost, and it was delightful! I laughed out loud on occasion, often smiled, and thoroughly enjoyed the mystery. My first by this author, and it won’t be my last! I was impressed with the way she set the scene and left small hints here and there, then threw in a twist or two! Great stuff! Highly recommended.

Reindeer Games is a beautiful Christmas Tree Farm in Mistletoe, Maine, and it’s the perfect winter wonderland to escape to for lots of fun and relaxation. Construction is underway for the new Inn that Holly White will manage, and her family hopes it will be ready by Christmas Day.

Alarm bells start ringing when a local investor, who’s also a womanizer, is found dead in a huge bowl of peppermint candy at the tree lighting ceremony. Caroline, Holly’s best friend, is the top suspect, so Holly starts asking questions around town even though Sheriff Evan Gray, her boyfriend, tells her to let him handle the investigating. I found the writing top-notch as the author skillfully ribbons suspicious characters, including Santa Claus’s, throughout the brilliant plot. Threats to Holly snowball as the real killer’s tension escalates.

The story is a pageturner! Rich in details, the originality of the setup of the town of Mistletoe and the Reindeer Games Tree Farm is simply captivating. I want to visit and stay at the new Inn! The characters are written so friendly and likable, or they’re detestable. I loved the magical ending for Holly. I’m excited about book three and looking forward to reading it.

Grab a delicious hot drink and get cozy on your comfy couch. Once again it is time for an intriguing mystery set in Mistletoe, Maine.

At the big tree lighting ceremony in town, Derek, a local investor is found dead in a big glass bowl filled with peppermints. He was seen on TV having a quarrel with Caroline, Holly’s friend, the night before and of course this makes Caroline the top suspect. When Holly starts asking questions to find the real murderer she starts getting threats and it escalates quickly from there.

Mistletoe is a wonderful setting to this fast paced mystery and the cozy Christmas magic that is spread is unrivaled. The characters are so likable and fun that I wish I could visit Mistletoe and celebrate Christmas with them.

I requested this book from NetGalley and am thankful that Crooked Lane Books and the author provided me with an advance copy.

The first in this series was pretty good. This was just downright silly. Holly, the main character has to be in a diabetic coma by now from eating candy, cupcakes, hot chocolate and every other sweet imaginable throughout the book. The only "real" food she has is pizza and chips. but that isn't what makes it silly. She's a ditz and the plot is not believable.

What a fun way to wrap up my 2022 Goodreads reading challenge. This Christmas cozy mystery series is an absolute joy. Excellent mysteries with plenty of twists and red herrings. Wonderful characters and side characters. The pacing for both the individual story and the series as a whole is executed really well. So excited for book three but wishing there was more.

This was great! I listened to the first book in this series around the holidays last year so I was excited to check out this second installment this season. Each book could be read as a stand-alone even though I think that the relationships between the characters would be best appreciated if the series is read in order. I had a great time with this one and found it to be a wonderful holiday read.

Holly is looking forward to a nice murder-free Christmas. She goes wither her friend Caroline to an event in town where a giant candy bowl is revealed. Unfortunately, this year the bowl of candy has been topped off by a body. The murder weapon near the body is one from Caroline's shop so Holly decided to do a little investigating herself.

I thought that this murder mystery was very well done. I had no idea who the culprit was until it was revealed in the story. Holly is just a wonderful character and she really does seem to have a knack for solving the crimes in Mistletoe. The town does, of course, have a sheriff who is also quite capable and happens to be interested in Holly even if he doesn't always act like it. In fact, I found that the mystery behind the sheriff's behavior to almost as interesting as the murder.

Allyson Ryan did a fantastic job with the narration of this story. I loved all of the voices that she used for the different characters. She added a lot of emotion into her reading which made everything a little more exciting. She read the book at a very nice pace and I found her voice to be very pleasant. I think I enjoyed this book a bit more because I decided to listen to the audiobook.

I would recommend this book to others. I thought that this was a very well done cozy mystery filled with wonderful characters and quite a bit of Christmas spirit. I wouldn't hesitate to read more of this fun series.

Initial Thoughts
This was so much fun! I listened to the first book in this series, Twelve Slays of Christmas, around Christmas last year and enjoyed it so I was excited to give this one a try this year. I thought that the mystery in the story was really well done and the characters were wonderful. The narrator did a fantastic job with the story which added to my enjoyment.

I have been looking forward to this book since I finished The Twelve Slays of Christmas last year, and was thrilled when this one came out in time for the holidays. I loved the main character Holly White. She is the queen of multi-tasking, as she juggles helping her parents run the tree farm during the busy holiday season, taking over as head decision-maker for the new inn (currently under construction), managing her in-demand jewelry business, and trying to clear her best friend of murder charges.

The mystery itself was a good one...plenty of suspects, and I liked that Holly actually goes out and tries to pro-actively interview people and learn things, instead of just occasionally stumbling onto a clue, like some cozy heroines are prone to do. Maybe the police should consider hiring her as a "special consultant". I also enjoyed the fact that the police were actually competent, and arrived at the same conclusions themselves.

I love this series enough to read it even without a crime. I enjoy reading about the (non-sleuthing) activities of Holly and her friends and family just as much as the mystery element of the story. I'd happily pick up each new installment around Christmas just to enjoy all the fun and excitement at Reindeer Games!

As an added bonus, this book included the mysterious contractor Christopher, who *may or may not* bear more than a passing resemblance to a certain red-clad visitor we all look forward to at this time of year. I hope he pops in at some point in a future book!

Holiday Reads | Cozy Mystery

'Twas the Knife Before Christmas is the second book in the Christmas Tree Farm mystery series. I’ve really been enjoying these books especially because they take place around Christmas which is my favorite holiday. Our lead sleuth in the stories is also a fantastic character and I love her ability to stay focused even when her life spirals out of control.

I’m going to keep this review short because I don’t have too much to say about it other than the fact that I enjoyed it. I do hope the author writes another book in time for the Christmas season next year. The first two books are such a blast to read that I would hate the series to stop here.

If you’re a fan of festive cozy mysteries, you won’t want to miss this series! You get a lot of thing all wrapped into one book- Christmas EVERYTHING, family, togetherness, and one tough cookie!

All I can say is this was the most magical Christmas book I've read this season! I love that Holly and Evan are growing closer. Now Ray, the guy from the first book who has been puppy-dog friendly to Holly but she made it clear she didn't want to date him, has finally found someone a little closer to his own age. And so has his mom, but he's less than thrilled over that.

It was getting close to Christmas and a guy that Holly's friend Caroline was seen with arguing at a benefit dinner was found dead in the big bowl of peppermints by the town's Christmas tree. With Caroline as the prime suspect, Holly couldn't help but investigate this one. But the killer apparently knew she was on to them, since Holly had a few close calls herself, and the showdown to end all showdowns!

I loved the side story with Evan's sister but the magical part came closer to the end of the book. I think Holly truly believed that Santa Claus had granted her and her family the perfect Christmas! I highly recommend this book (and the first in series) as just the perfect Christmas cozies!

Its Christmas in Mistletoe, Maine so it must be time to kill somebody. As usual it is a jerk and the suspect is obvious. Or is it? This is a cute Cozy Mystery that is well written with good characters. Although I'm making fun of the formula, it works and its relaxing. Sometimes you need a good palate cleanser instead of the beloved characters getting murdered in horrible fashions and violent crimes against women. This is one of those for the lover of cozy mysteries that you can read while drinking a warm cup of tea in front of the fire while trying to figure out who the killer is.
Cute book and a series to keep visiting in the Christmas season to relax.

This was like watching a Christmas movie, not a swamy Hallmark either, perfect for the end of those days when you have been running around like a mad person trying to get everything done. I so enjoy snuggling up with a warm blanket, a hot mulled wine and a good Christmas book with just a twist of murder and mystery. Ideal.

Holly White is now firmly planted back in her hometown of Mistletoe, Maine and loving everything about Christmas at her family's Christmas tree farm, Reindeer Games. It has been a year since she was almost murdered and she and the town sheriff, Evan Gray, struck sparks. But, alas, that relationship has grown somewhat distant over the year much to Holly's regret. But, it's Christmas and who can be sad at this time of the year?

A cute, cozy mystery, but I’m so tired of plot lines where the men are the saviors. It’s so annoying. That happens multiple times in this book, and I don’t really understand why the MC is investigating anything. The sheriff is perfectly capable and she knows that, yet she feels compelled to meddle. I don’t get it.

If you would have ever told me I'd fall in love with a Christmas cozy series, I'd have said you were nuts. Come on, I'm just not that jolly. However, I have fallen in love with Frost's newest addition to last year's debut. A new murder has taken place right as the festivities for Christmas Tree Farm are beginning. This time, Caroline is not a suspect and instead the police are looking at her friend Holly.Mistletoe, Maine has one of the cast of characters I've met in a long time. The reader really gets sucked into this Christmas obsessed town and quickly attaches to many of the characters. Like most cozies, there is an element of romance, but it's not overwhelming and I dare any reader not to cheer on the main couple. In addition, the mystery element was fun and satisfying.

I was initially worried that the author couldn't sustain a mystery centered around one particular holiday year after year. However, that is no longer the case and I can't wait to see what happens next. If you love great characters, good mysteries and a fun setting, you have to give this series a try!

I received a copy of "'Twas the Knife Before Christmas" from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Twas the Knife Before Christmas by Jacqueline Frost - 4 Stars
(Book 2 in the Christmas Tree Farm Mystery Series)

What another great book in this series! I am working my way through this one and really enjoyed it y'all! Solid clean cozy mystery series with a smidge of romance. Here we continue to see Holly from book one "up to her jingle bells in holiday shenanigans" as the synopsis says. When a body turns up in a dumpster behind Caroline's Cupcakes, the store's owner is the main suspect. Holly helps out at the cupcake place so she is trying her luck at clearing Caroline's name. We see Sheriff Evan back with his budding romance with Holly too, which I love.

This one is full of holiday charm and Christmas cheer yall! Pick it up.

I love holiday themed cozies and Twas the Knife Before Christmas was no exception. The book is endearing and overflowing with Christmas spirit. The characters are fun and likable. The story takes place in Mistletoe, Maine where Holly makes jewelry and manages her family’s Christmas Tree farm and friends Cookie and Caroline own a successful bakeshop. Caroline is suspected of murder after a very public disagreement with a man who got quite “handsy” with her is found dead in the town square. Holly is determined to clear her best friend’s name, even if it means putting herself in danger. I love the author’s descriptions and engaging writing style.

So this was a cute, small town Christmas continuation book 2 in the series. I liked it. I felt like it dragged a little bit on them Finally catching the killer, they always wait until like the end of the book. I feel like these are a little long for me. I wish that they were a bit shorter. They are cute for what they are, The mystery is good. There's a little bit of romance that I like in here. The characters are charming. i like how they go about the mystery and trying to solve it. That there is drama and danger. It only lagged in a few areas for me.

I love this series. Cozy, escapist, christmassy, suspenseful but still mild enough for my wanderingly busy holiday brain. One per year has been a fun bookish holiday treat to look forward to!
