Murder With Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith is a 2018 Kensington Books publication.
A perfect cozy mystery!!

As the town gears up for the onslaught of tourists expected for a quilting event, Daisy is shocked by the murder of Reese Masemer, the man her good friend, Tess, had been dating. Daisy had no intention of poking her nose into the investigation, but when Tess becomes the primary suspect, she puts on her sleuthing hat once again to keep her friend from being charged with murder.

In the meantime, Daisy is worried her oldest daughter is getting too serious with her new boyfriend, while her own romantic prospect hits a disappointing snag.

This second installment in the ‘Tea Garden Mystery’ series, builds upon a sturdy foundation, becoming more solid and secure as characters develop a bit more and the location becomes more vivid. But, of course, we all showed up for a murder mystery, and this one is a real head scratcher.

This is a series I think I could settle into long term. Daisy is a character I could really grow to love, as she is more ‘mature’, and the issues she copes with are realistic and easy to relate to. I love the supporting cast, and their interesting and compelling relationships. The romance is just little angsty, working on a slow build up, which is nice, as well.

The mystery kept me on my toes and guessing from the start all the way to the nail biting conclusion! I loved the way this story ended, and enjoyed the awesome recipes included with the book. You really must try the cinnamon scones- they are to die for!!

Another fantastic cozy mystery by Smith. I thoroughly enjoyed Daisy, Tessa, Jonas and all the other characters. I love teas and high tea so it so fun to see all these mysteries transpire around the setting of a tea cottage. It’s described in such detail, I could envision myself walking in and ordering tea and a scone. In this installment, Tessa is being framed for murder and once again Daisy just doesn’t want to leave it up to the lead detective. Clearly a small town vibe, because no one ever has an issue answering all Daisy’s probing questions. Once again, a book filled with great relationships, mystery and a hint of romance. Enjoy!

Dollycas’s Thoughts
Willow Creek has a big event planned. A Quilt Lover’s Weekend that they hope will bring plenty of tourists to town. Reese Masemer owns the local art gallery and he will be displaying some beautiful antique quilts. Tessa, an artist and Daisy’s BFF has been dating him and helping him set up for the big event. There will be a tea at Daisy’s Tea Garden to wrap up the event and announce the raffle winners.

After their last meeting, Tessa feels there is something off about Reese but he has been busy and she has been working on a project herself too. She spends her early morning sketching the covered bridge just outside of town. She is hoping that after the weekend and things settle down she will be able to find out what is going on with Reese. But before she has the chance, Reese is found dead, right by the covered bridge and Tessa is the police’s prime suspect. Knowing her friend is innocent she is going to do her best to find the real killer. Daisy has a way with tea and cinnamon scones but catching the real culprit will take more than 5 minutes to steep the clues all together and pour out her findings for the police.

The characters in this story have a strong bond whether related by blood or friendship. The group looks out for each other. That is clear not only by the way they try to save Tessa but also when Daisy’s helps out one of her employees. A young man on a different path that his father thinks he should be on. I loved the way they all come together several times in this story to handle normal daily life, business, the murder investigation and its aftermath. The word compassion comes to mind when I think of these characters. All the relationships feel true to life.

Karen Rose Smith has written a complex mystery with some corkscrew twists. More suspects are uncovered as the story reveals more of the victim’s past. Detective Morris Rappaport really started rubbing me the wrong way but a few exciting moments finally put him in his place. I liked that Daisy had help from a retired police detective, Jonas Groft and a high school friend, Cade Bankert but I am not entirely sold yet on a romantic relationship between Jonah and Daisy.

This story is well written and plotted. The characters are well developed as well with plenty of backstory if you missed the first book in this series. I am not a tea drinker but I love the theme of this series. As a former quilter, I also loved the theme of this story. Willow Creek is a wonderful place to virtually visit. I could almost taste the cinnamon scones.

This is another perfect escape from this author. A delightful cozy mystery. I am excited to see what happens next!

This one wasn't as much a wow as the first of the series, and the middle is plagued by a bit too much telling and retelling. I'm eager to move on to the next in the series, which will be out in a few weeks!

Second in the Daisy’s Tea Garden Mystery series, the author shares a cheery setting, well-drawn characters, and mounting suspense that crests to quite a surprise! I really enjoy the characters at tea garden who work together as if part of a finely-choreographed dance. They are warm and welcoming in an atmosphere where one is content to have a cup of tea or coffee and scone and relax. I love this new series, perhaps because of the setting and the leading ladies – Daisy, Iris, and Tessa.
Daisy Swanson grew up in Walnut Creek, PA, then she and her late husband, Ryan, moved away. After his death, Daisy formulated a plan, packed up her delightful daughters Vi, now 18, and Jazzi, now 15, returning to Walnut Creek. Daisy and her Aunt Iris purchased a Victorian home for Daisy’s Tea Garden. Daisy’s best friend Tessa is the kitchen manager, who lives on the second floor of the Tea Garden, and uses the attic for her painting.
Daisy and three other business owners are on the committee planning a Quilt Lover’s Weekend, which will hopefully provide a needed boost to the local economy for the winter weekend. They want to draw in people from nearby towns for year-round returns. There will be a drawing for two quilts, quilted kitchen goods for sale, and a demonstration at the local Quilts & Notions shop owned by an Amish woman, one of Daisy’s childhood friends, Rachel.
All is going well until Reese, Tessa’s boyfriend who she has become very serious about, was found dead by the covered bridge, where Tessa has been working on a series of paintings. Reese, owner of the local gallery where Tessa had a showing last fall, was murdered. Tessa is the only suspect.
Readers are treated to complex characters who we learn about through realistic dialog, actions, and revealing some of their backstories. Iris and Daisy are my favorites. Daisy reflects wisdom learned because of being a mother and, in recent years, a single mother. Each of the ladies, plus Foster, who work at Daisy’s Tea Garden are hard-working and personable. Daisy’s loyalty to Tessa and Foster through the challenges faced is exemplary, although it seemed at times that her words were challenging to a concerned parent and to Jonah when he tried to help her after she was attacked.
Yes, Daisy was attacked on the stairs to Tessa’s apartment. She was injured, but thankfully not as bad as it could have been. Her computer searching skills are still excellent, finding that Reese had a few secrets he hadn’t shared with Tessa. This is a well-planned and executed multi-tiered mystery. Even though coffee is my preferred beverage, I appreciated learning more about the flavors of tea, how to prepare it, and seeing that I must try a white tea. Learning more about quilts, even though I can’t sew a stitch, was also enjoyable. Plot twists and turns brought electrifying changes about the potential suspects. I was stymied by the mystery, and stunned when finding out who the bad guy or gal is! There are no loose ends, and the story is well wrapped up. I highly recommend Murder with Cinnamon Scones, as well as the first in series, Murder with Lemon Tarts.
From a grateful heart: I received a copy of this e-Arc from the publisher and NetGalley, and this is my honest review.

This was an awesome addition to this new series! I didn't guess the killer and I am glad that Daisy has finally come to her senses about one of the handsome men in her life.

It was January in Willow Creek and the store owners were all gearing up for a Quilt Lovers' Weekend that would bring in extra business to an otherwise slow time of year. When Tessa's boyfriend Reese, who runs the local art gallery, was killed near where Tessa liked to paint, of course she's the prime suspect. Daisy was determined to back her best friend and find out who the real killer was. After the murder weapon was planted in Tessa's apartment, it was pretty clear that someone was out to frame her. In her digging, Daisy found out that Reese wasn't exactly who Tessa always thought he was. Who hated Reese enough to want him dead? Someone from the town or someone from his secret past?

I loved visiting Willow Creek again. Aunt Iris is such a sweetheart although the same really can't be said for her sister who is Daisy's mom. Iris and Daisy have a great relationship though and it seems to make up for anything Rose has fallen short on as a mother. Rose isn't a bad mom, just has more expectations than Daisy would care for. I liked that Jazzi's birth mom got to get with her again. I'm not sure how that will go but I'm pretty confident that Jazzi will never abandon Daisy for her. It was so cute how Foster and Violet were dating whenever Vi was home from college.

I hope this series goes on for a long time and am definitely looking forward to the next book!

When gallery owner Reese Masemer's corpse turns up by the covered bridge, Daisy's friend Tessa becomes the chief suspect. She'd been dating the man, and some say the couple fought recently. It all happens when Willow Creek's businesses host a quilting event. Although it offers a predictable cozy plot, it provides a few moments of escapism for readers who want to indulge in a cup of tea, tasty treats, and a little spot of murder.

The second version of the Tea Lovers series has the merchant of Willow Creek, Pennsylvania planning a quilt event weekend. Daisy Swanson and her manager, Tessa is excited about the affair. Their cinnamon scones have become very popular and the restaurant is extremely busy. Tessa has a romantic relationship with Reese Masemer, the owner of the art gallery. The Galley will display the quilts. Recently, Reese has become evasive with Tessa and she feels he has not been grateful to her. The Art Gallery alarms go off and there are an unlawful entry and destruction. A valuable quilt is missing. Before Tessa recovers from this event Reese Masemer is found murdered near where Tessa paints. She becomes a person of interest and Daisy decided to explore Reese death in order to clear Tessa. She found that Reese had a secret that surprised and shocked her. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this book and series. Recipes are included.

I received a free copy of Murder with Cinnamon Scones (A Daisy’s Tea Garden Mystery) by Karen Rose Smith in exchange for an honest review. This book is the sequel to Murder with Lemon Tea Cakes; however, it can be read independently with no trouble. Daisy Swanson is working together with other local merchants to promote an upcoming quilting event expected to bring much needed revenue into town. Reese Masemer, who owns the local art gallery and who has been heavily involved in the planning of the upcoming event, is murdered. Daisy becomes embroiled in finding the murderer when law enforcement focuses on Daisy’s friend Tessa as the prime suspect. Can the crime be solved without sabotaging the upcoming promotional event and without anyone else getting hurt?

The characters were likeable and the story progressed smoothly. This is a nice story for whiling away a quiet weekend.

This is the second book in the Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery series and an enjoyable addition it was. The Store owners in Willow Creek are getting ready for the Quilt Lovers' Weekend. It is being spearheaded by art gallery owner and Tessa's boyfriend, Reese Masemer. When his body is found, bludgeoned, by the bridge where Tessa loves to paint, she is the primary suspect.Daisy does not want to see her friend and employee arrested for a crime she is sure she did not commit, so she begins to ask questions. When the murder weapon is found hidden in the attic of Tessa's house, it is obvious that someone is trying to frame her. As Daisy begins her search, she goes online and discovers that Reese has a lot of secrets. Does someone from his past hate him enough to kill him? I didn't guess the killer and I am glad that Daisy has finally come to her senses about one of the handsome men in her life.

I loved visiting Willow Creek again. Aunt Iris is such a sweetheart and Iris and Daisy have a great relationship. Iris and her mom, Rose, do not have a great relationship as Rose has expectations for Daisy that she does not want to pursue. Daisy's two children Jazzi and Violet both make an appearance in the story and show how important family is to Daisy. Daisy is a character I enjoy, as the issues she copes with are realistic and easy to relate to. The supporting cast is also interesting and their relationships fill out the story in a realistic way. I am not sure about the romance in the book yet, I hope it proceeds in a slow and positive way. The one character I do not like at all is Detective Morris Rappaport. He is not a very nice person and often has blinders on when investigating. I like that he was put in his place in the story. The mystery was well done. There were a lot of clues to follow, many suspects as Reese's past became known and some twists. I had no idea who the culprit was until the final, climactic reveal at the end. The culprit is believable, but it seemed to come out of left field to me. I like when I can go back and say, yes, I didn't see that. I love scones, so am looking forward to trying the recipe at the back for Cinnamon Scones. I recommend this book to cozy mystery lovers. You do not need to read the first book to enjoy this one.

Murder with Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith is the 2nd book in a Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery, and another fun addition.  Daisy Swanson, a widowed mother of two daughters, along with her Aunt Iris own the tea garden. While the town gets ready for quilt lovers weekend, one of Daisy's employees, Tessa, finds her boyfriend dead, making her a suspect. Daisy is determined to find the real killer. Once I started this book I could not stop reading it. It was a quick read that kept me guessing. I look forward to the next book in the series. I recommend this book for all cozy mystery book lovers, you will not be disappointed.

This is extremely fluffy and forgettable and the murderer is obvious, but tea-themed cozy mysteries seem to be basically the extent of what I can handle at the end of 2020, and I enjoyed reading this, so it's a positive 3 stars! Definitely recommend if you are looking for a light and entertaining cozy mystery series.

Murder with Cinnamon Scones is the second installment in Karen Rose Smith’s Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery series and is an enjoyable read, with a great cast of realistic characters and an intriguing murder mystery with lots of twists and turns and possible suspects. The storyline is well plotted, the characters well developed, and the story moves at a steady pace. There’s a perfect mix of the importance of family, friendship, caring and compassion, romance, and mystery. There are lots of twists and turns and red herrings to keep the reader engaged. Ms. Smith provides great character background and this book can be read as a standalone. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading clean cozy mysteries.

Daisy Swanson is a widow and she and her two daughters moved back to the small town of Willow Creek, Pennsylvania, to be near family. The quaint tea garden, Daisy’s Tea Garden, she co-owns with her aunt, Iris Albright, is doing well. Daisy worries about her daughters; Jasmine, who’s in high school, is adopted and has recently connected with her birth mother, Portia Smith Harding, who hasn’t told her family about Jasmine, and Violet, who’s away at college, is dating, Foster Cranshaw, one of the tea garden’s employees. Daisy’s been seeing Jonas Groft, a retired detective and owner of Woods, a handcrafted furniture store, but she feels something is wrong and is concerned about where their relationship is headed. Daisy’s good friend, Tessa Miller, is the chef and kitchen manager at the tea garden and a talented artist who’s been dating Reese Masemer since her October show in his gallery, Revelations Art Gallery. Daisy’s been working with other local merchants to promote the upcoming Quilt Lovers Weekend and the festivities are expected to bring much needed revenue into town. Reese, who was also involved in the planning of the upcoming event, is murdered and Detective Morris Rappaport looks at Tessa as the prime suspect. Daisy didn’t plan to get involved in the investigation, but she can’t sit by and do nothing while evidence piles up against Tessa. She believes someone is trying to frame her friend, and is compelled to search for clues and point the authorities in the right direction. Daisy uncovers secrets about Reese and finds herself in harm’s way.

The author has a winner with the Daisy Tea Garden Mystery series and I hope to see many more books in this series. Daisy Swanson and her Aunt Iris are the owners of Daisy’s Tea Garden. I really enjoy learning about the many different kinds of teas and those scones really make me hungry! In this book Daisy’s friend, Tessa, is a key suspect in a murder and Daisy works hard to clear her.

I finished Murder with Cinnamon Scones by Karen Rose Smith on Mothers Day. This is a lovely cozy about a tea room and with a truly complicated and winding mystery. I did not have it figured out at all! I loved the characters, the setting and the relationships, those that felt easy to understand and the more complex family dynamics. I just love the characters in this series. Daisy is someone who I would love to have as a friend. She’s loyal, caring, and one that won’t let you down. Aunt Iris is so special, especially to Daisy. The side stories with these characters are great too. It’ll be fun to watch where they go and how they get there. I love Jonas and he seems to be relaxing a little, which is a good thing and could get very interesting. I think it’s going to be entertaining to see how Detective Rappaport develops. I think it would be so fun to go to Daisy and Iris’s tea garden. We need to be hungry when we go cause the food sounds delicious!! I think my favorite this time would be Daisy’s Cinnamon Scones. Yum!! I hope you enjoy the story and see if you can figure out who done it!

I received an ARC of this book. My opinion is mine.

Quilt Lovers Weekend is only three weeks away and Daisy Swanson is deep in planning for the event with other small business owners in their small town in PA Amish country. Not the best time for her best friend, Tessa, to be suspected of the murder of her boyfriend and art gallery owner, Reese. Daisy co-owns a tea shop with her aunt and getting that business off the ground and tending to her teenage daughters already keep her hopping. Initially, I found the story heavy with backstory, so much that I thought the series was further along than only the second book. However, the characters and story totally won me over. These are honest-to-God real people that I want to meet up with again.

The main protagonist of the story is Daisy who runs the Tea Garden with her aunt Iris. All local merchants are getting ready for the Quilt lovers weekend . In the meanwhile Jonas gives out mixed signals and Daisy is confused about their relationship. When her best friend and coworker, Tessa gets accused of the murder of her boyfriend,Reese; Daisy steps in to help. When facts about Reese's past crop up, everyone realizes that they didn't know Reese so well.

Who killed Reese?

Was it someone from his past?

Or someone in the present?

Read to find out

I feel like it is been long since I read a cozy culinary mystery, I was trying out other genres and this month had a lot of readathons finally I'm back to my comfort reads.  I loved reading about the Tea Garden, their different types of teas and goodies. There were times when I wanted to go into the book, just to sample the desserts, the shoofly pie, scones.. This is the second book in the series, I haven't read the first, but I didn't feel lost. I loved Daisy and Jonas and all the characters. I never suspected the killer at all , it was a blow to my detective skills. Overall a great cozy mystery , i enjoyed it a lot

MURDER WITH CINNAMON SCONES by Karen Rose Smith is the second book in the Daisy’s Tea Garden Mystery series but the first one I’ve read. I found it easy to jump into the story without having read the first book and it didn’t take me long to feel like I knew the characters. I enjoyed that the protagonist, Daisy, is a widowed, single mom to practically grown children, instead of a twenty- or thirty-something single career gal. It allowed the character to have an added depth of life experiences that is used to great effect. The setting of Daisy’s Tea Room, which she co-owns with her aunt, is darling and I liked hearing about the varieties of teas that they serve. I was especially drooling over the mention of Cinnamon Scones being served many times and am looking forward to trying that recipe which is provided at the back of the book. I also enjoyed the bits and pieces of information about the Amish living in their town that was woven into the story. It brings a different cultural feel to this cozy which I found charming.

When Daisy’s best friend, Tessa (who is also the chef at the tea room) is suspected of murdering her boyfriend, Daisy can’t help but jump in to clear Tessa’s name. While their community is small and close-knit, it surprised me that some of the residents were quick to believe the worst of Tessa. However, Daisy is a loyal friend and does everything she can to find the truth. The suspenseful conclusion wrapped the story up nicely and I look forward to catching up with the first book and reading more in this delightful series.

I was provided a Netgalley copy with the hopes I would review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

In this next book of the series Daisy is getting ready for the upcoming Quilt Lovers Weekend. Her friend Tessa is dating the local gallery owner who will be displaying some of the quilts in his gallery. When Reese, Tessa's boyfriend, is found dead she becomes the main suspect. Who would want to kill Reese and why? Daisy jumps right in to help her friend, she knows Tessa isn't a killer but who out there is? When secrets that Reese were hiding come to light Tessa wonders just how well she knew the man she was in love with. Follow along as Daisy wades through the people who could have wanted to kill Reese in her quest for the truth. This was a fantastic read filled with wonderful characters and a well written whodunit. I would love to visit a tea garden like the one in the book, and enjoyed the lovely recipes included at the end. I like where the characters are going and look forward to seeing where the author takes them next.

Daisy an her aunt run a shop in Amish country and are getting ready for a quilting weekend. One of Daisy’s employees is dating Reese who is in charge of the exhibit. They have an agurement that is over heard by several people. Reese is found dead by the covered bridges where her employee had been painting. Daisy is sure her employee is innocent and sets out to find out who did it. She is also wondering about where her romance is going and how her daughters are doing. This book seemed to drag, maybe to many plots and none explored throughly.

This is a cozy set in Amish country, even though the Amish don't have much to do with anything. The sleuth, Daisy is helping her small town organize a quilt show to bring in tourists during the winter. Of course, there is to be a murder. The victim is the owner of a local art gallery, and the boyfriend of Daisy's best friend. The couple were going through a bit of a rough patch, and the girlfriend is the obvious suspect.

Secrets are learned, clues are found, and the mystery is solved. A bit low-key, but interesting.

This is book #2 in the "Daisy's Tea Garden Mystery" series and I did not read book #1. I don't feel like I missed much without reading the first book and Karen Rose Smith did a good job of recapping to keep the reader up to date.
Overall, this was a good read and I can see why it's a popular mystery series. I think the plot and writing were well done and I did enjoy the characters. Daisy is a great main character that's very likable as well.
I'm just eh, with the whole tea and scones thing, which is Daisy's business, so I understand why this topic is discussed so frequently. Will likely continue reading this series.

Such a fun cozy mystery! This book has a sampling of everything that fans of this genre love: Great setting in a tea shop; a strong, smart heroine; quirky, memorable supporting characters; an interesting storyline and intriguing mystery; and the beginnings of a romance. Please note: This is not a “Christian fiction” book. This is a clean, sweet mystery with no bad language or embarrassing scenes. There’s also some good recipes at the end of the book. This was the first book I’ve read by Karen Rose Smith. I’ll look forward to following her characters through the series.

Daisy and Tessa are looking forward to the upcoming Quilt Lovers Weekend, an event that is being sponsored by several of the town businesses, including Daisy's Tea Garden. But when Tessa becomes the main suspect in the death of artist Reese Masemer, Daisy knows she has to investigate to clear Tessa's name. With a host of possible alternatives, including Reese's ex-wife, his teenaged son, and a mysterious figure from his past, Daisy has her work cut out for her. Of course, her own personal problems aren't helping her get to the bottom of this mystery, including the confused state with possible boyfriend, Jonas. This was an enjoyable mystery, full of clues and twists. I also enjoy the family centered perspectives found in this story, including dealing with your first child off to college, dealing with an adopted child seeking to find their biological mother, dealing with a contentious relationship with your own mother, or just dealing with emotional insecurity in dating relationships. This is the second book in this series, and I look forward to more adventures with Daisy and Jonas. BTW: recipes including that for cinnamon scones are included at the end of the book. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reading copy of this book.
