I am an unapologetic romance lover. I read it. I write it. Enough said. Well..I also have a warrior way "Never give up on my dreams." I spend a copious amount of time drooling over Rick Grimes from Walking Dead, watching Japanese anime and playing video games with my love, Dusean.

This book is the perfect Regency read for today's romance reader. It blends all of the "knight in shining..." with a fierce determination on the part of its heroine to live life on her own terms. Just as importantly, her male counterpart appreciates and nurtures the bold and independent spirit of his lady. This book also offered readers a look at a very evenly matched hero and heroine. from the secrets that plagued the both of them, to the passions that set them ablaze; it is quite clear that these two are made for each other. The story's fast pace and many plot twists make this the perfect read for someone for whom Regency Romance may not be a first choice. This is also a wonderful "one sitting read
I received an ARC of this book free from the author and netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Oh my… It’s been a while since I’ve read historical romance. This one’s a real treat, so thank you Miss Stacy Reid for the ARC!
First of all, I’d like to say that this book has a beautiful cover! Whoa, look at that. The girl is so lovely. She’s exactly what I’ve imagined of Phillipa. :)
This book, by the way, comes in a very passionate tale… and it’s one with a scorching hot romantic plot! The story is all about two characters who developed a beyond-ordinary love right after their fateful encounter in London. Anthony Thornton, a deliciously hot member of the ton, instantly fell for the irresistible Miss Phillipa Peppiwell in a certain ball. Phillipa, on the other hand, is an American lady who doesn’t agree with London’s social viewpoints. She has a very intriguing scandalous past which made her feel hesitant to accept Anthony’s proposal to her. From the very beginning, the attraction and the sexual tension between these two characters are already apparent so it’s not that hard for me to connect well with these characters.
By all rights, he should be concentrating on the stunning widow Lady Galveston, who had been throwing him sultry looks since his arrival, but he had to admit the slender redhead with her cold, golden eyes interested him far more.
What I love about this novel is the undeniable chemistry between Anthony and Phillipa. I love their match and I knew right then that they’re perfect for each other! Although they first thought that their feelings for each other is mainly a lust, the way they interact and spend time together is evidently more than that.
I love Anthony Thornton, I already consider him as one of my favorite historical book characters! He’s bold enough to express his feelings and he doesn’t even hesitate to accept the fact that he’s in love. He doesn’t annoy me at all.
Phillipa, on the other hand, is a bit annoying especially during the first few chapters, but thankfully her character eventually improved so my annoyance with her didn’t really grow that much. :)
The scenes are unpredictable, and that’s how I admire the author. It’s also well-written. It basically paints a picture of the earlier London scene– how London society reacts to gossips, scandals, and anything unusual. It also speaks about the importance of politics over love when it comes to choosing someone you marry. Well, I’m glad I wasn’t born in this era. Lol. :’D
One thing I noticed about this book, though. It reminds me of Lisa Kleypas’ novels. There are a lot of similarities when it comes to the plot. And I’m glad however because I love Lisa Kleypas and I want to read historical novels that are similar with her writings and plots. And this one really satisfies me. :)
Also, I love the dual POVs here. All stories should be like this! :)
Kudos for a very beautiful story, Miss Stacy Reid!
My Rating for this Book: 5 Stars :) (For those of you who loves historical romance with a taste of sexy and passionate scenes and with a satisfying ending, consider reading this. :) It’s worth a read!)
It was cute to see the other side to everything. Though I do feel like I missed out on the sexy things that make the hero so disturbing to his mistresses...
Loved it! I enjoyed the first book The Duke's Shotgun Wedding and this one did not disappoint. I loved the flow of the story, and how quickly I became invested in the characters.
I adored Anthony. He was sweet, charming, but with that edginess of an alpha male and definitely sexy. He made the story came alive for me and kept me hooked. He wasn't your typical male that had tons of mistresses and did not want a wife.He actually wanted a family, but had a scandal in his closet that could affect his pursuit of any respectable lady. Of course he saw Phillipa Peppiwell at a ball and wham! instant attraction...he then spoke with her and got double wham. Then the fun ensued. I really enjoyed his pursuit of her and Phillipa eventual surrender was sweet and hot.
Phillipa herself was a pretty good character...with her own secrets. I liked her..she was willful, passionate, and charming in her own way. She did frustrate me a few times especially her refusal to marry someone as scrumptious as Anthony, but I did understand her fear and insecurities and that only made me cheer for her to have her happy ever after even more.
I also got to spend more time with Sebastian. I fell in love with him in The Duke's Shotgun wedding but I had wanted a little bit more of him. I felt like I got that closure. LOL. I am also highly anticipating their sister Constance's story.
I really like this author, but I found my mind wandering a tad thru this book. I was kinda meh.....about the heroine. But I loved Anthony.
I swoon for the blondes, they’re so rare and I have a Viking fetish. Ha!
But he was really a great, kind, sexy Lord. I was very undecided if I thought she was right for him throughout the book. She seemed too modern. They seemed at very opposing views on marriage.
He really wanted it based on his birth and all she wanted to do was travel the world. So, strange bedfellows.
It’s a good read but I’ve read better from this author.
Anthony story going on at the same time his brother the Duke from book 1 story is going on.
He's charmed by the lady everyone calls the ice queen. She's cold and really don't want to marry but do to her lifestyle back in American she's destroyed her family name and they must start over in London.
With her family pressing her to marry. She finds her eyes on Anthony but Anthony doesn't hold up to her family due to the secret of who he is comes out.
Hot! But I really didn't love it. I liked it and I was intrigued by a lord obsessed with S&M and an 'impure' heroine. It was very different and you could definitely feel their passion. I liked that miscommunication was not the major issue between them. The heroine was kind of an idiot about marrying him and she annoyed me a couple of times. He was pretty perfect even with his peculiar interests. I liked when she said she wasn't a virgin and he said neither am I. Lol. Best line ever. But it was really good. And the ending was cute tying the books together. Liked that.
Review of The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell by Stacy Reid Story is good and all the characters, especially Phillipa, are likable. She is strong, passionate and adventurous, which makes her a perfect female lead character in my humble opinion. I also liked the fact that the book was well paced and kept me entertained until the very end. I recommend it to all historical romance lovers. It's a must read novel.Lord Anthony is looking for a bride and Miss Peppiwell is not interested in marriage. But they are a perfect couple. The chemistry between them is undeniable and scorching hot. Anthony is Alpha at heart but he has an honourable and sensitive side too. While Phillipa is cold and closed off, very few know that she has an adventurous and rebellious side too. Both have a dislike for society's rules. They do not want to bend to society's will and want a life where they can have freedom to choose whatever way they want to live. They want to be scandalous.Although they have lived very different lives, they are very similar in many ways. That's the reason why Anthony is sure that Miss Peppiwell is a perfect bride for him. Now the trouble is that she doesn't agree and it will not be easy to convince her. Phillipa is wary of men and she doesn't want to get married to one. She thinks that marriage will bind her and make it impossible to have the freedom she so craves. She loves Anthony but all she wants is to be his friend and lover. She is definitely not looking to wed. But when she is taken by crazy/nasty Lord Orwell, things change. She saw a side of Anthony she hadn't before and it just might convince her to accept his marriage proposal after all.
I thought this was a really well done novel. The lead characters, Anthony and Phillipa, are well-drawn, enjoyable characters. Anthony is definitely an alpha male, but with a bit of a sensitive side, and he and Phillipa have great chemistry through out. Phillipa is a strong female lead who's both adventurous and passionate-a perfect match for Anthony. 4.5 stars. Recommended.
anthony didn't think he would end up falling for phillipa after seeking her out in a ball. contrary to her cold demeanour, phillipa is actually extremely passionate and has a mind of her own. she doesn't want to marry because of her desire to travel the world and experience new things.
i enjoyed the back-and-forth between anthony and phillipa. them enjoying each other's company and solving problems together. anthony managed to break phillipa's aloofness with his charming self while phillipa makes anthony think of their future as a couple, something he never thought would be a thing for him.
First of all, is this supposed to be the first or the second book in the Calydon series? Because it makes more sense for this one to be the first book than "The Duke's Shotgun Wedding".
This is in a way an easy short read. At first i was a bit apprehensive about the story as the girl, Phillipa Peppiwell, beautiful, rich but cold, complete with short uninteresting responses, blank uninterested looks, etc. Ok....so she's trying to make herself be as unattractive as possible so that men do not want to marry her. She's averse to marriage because it is entraps a woman and takes away her freedom. I can accept that idea in a story; it is after all the 19th century and women are not given a lot of rights for a lot of things. She's a rebel at heart and also not a simpering miss - she couldn't wait to get her inheritance at 21 so that she can go globe-trotting as a free single woman. Anthony Thornton is Sebastian's younger brother, he's tired of being a popular, good-looking, rich bachelor and wants to settle down with the right woman and have a family. (Wow! Mythical creature alert!) he sees Miss P and he wants her. He pursues her but she always seems ellusive and out of reach. There's a bit of a setback as he found out about his parentage. But still he took his chance with the girl and laid it all out for her. And then there's the typical creepy and lecherous titled-lord villain lurking around ballrooms trying to get his hands on our girl.
So alright, the characters are rather cliched, the plot predictable, but somehow the story is saved by the fast-paced telling of the story that doesn't waste time on too many plot twists, support from solid side characters and no rambling descriptions of foggy London/ the English countryside. One thing i like about SR's stories is that it just zooms into what you need in a histo-rom, put together 2 likeable MCs, package their love story in a compact easy to chew stories minus the pretty prose and fancy Regency dialogues and end it with a pretty ending. Nice, simple and just as satisfying.
Lord Anthony Thornton sudah bosan hidup membujang. Dia memutuskan utk mencari calon istrinya dan matanya tertumbuk pd Miss Phillipa Peppiwell, anak orang kaya dari Amerika. Tapi Miss Peppiwell ini eksentrik, menolak utk menikah (tetapi bersedia jadi wanita simpanan... ????).
Terlalu "straight to the point" alias terlalu kelihatan sekali siapa yg baik siapa yg jahat, terlalu hitam putih malah serasa baca buku fiksi anak-anak versi adult.
Plot cerita sering dgn narasi yg direpetisi, yg menurut saya utk apa diulang-ulang dgn dikatakan Anthony anak haram? Ketertarikan Anthony pd Miss Peppiwell sudah jelas secara fisik, dan saya "tidak merasa" ada ketertarikan lainnya seperti sifatnya atau karakternya. Anthony digambarkan lord yg tajir melintir, tapi gak jelas juga pekerjaannya apa, malah terkesan dia agak "bergantung" pd kakaknya yg seorang duke tsb.
Yg menolong novel ini cuma adegan 17 tahun ++ nya aja yg super hot. Yg lainnya lebih mirip opera sabun/sinetron yg lebay.
I don't like American heiress in historical settings because, like Phillipa Peppiwell, they usually come across with a disdainful attitude and misfit role because of their "new money" status. Phillipa was especially unlikeable with her ice maiden demeanor, which was actually hiding her disgrace for a foolish dalliance wherein her family had to flee across the pond to try to buy her a titled husband.
Anthony was not the titled lord as purported; he was rather boring except for his penchant for rough sex. There was not much to his story except the scandal that surrounds him that the ton now knows that he is not the son of a duke but the product of an illicit affair and subject of gossip. Phillipa and Anthony certainly had a sensual connection, but I never felt that there was a soul-deep love between the two, just two social outcasts whose relationship is based on sexual chemistry. This one is not a keeper.
Continuing on the heels of her successful debut novella The Duke's Shotgun Wedding, this highly entertaining historical romance is the story of Anthony (brother to the hero in the aforementioned story)and Phillipa. Phillipa is the daughter of a wealthy Boston merchant who has moved the family to London to find a husband for her in the wake of a sex scandal in which she was involved. There she meets Anthony, a wealthy and titled man who sees beyond her icy façade and finds the passion Phillipa tries desperately to hide. Vowing to herself that she'll never marry, Anthony's pursuit of Phillipa never-the-less rouses her emotions and she must decide whether to risk her heart with him.
What an entrancing tale! Phillipa is known as the ice maiden for her frigid manner and emotionless contact when out in society. This is her way of protecting herself from revealing her true desires - that she is a passionate woman who wants adventure and would love nothing more than to flaunt society's constricts and expectations. Anthony is a handsome, friendly and dashing man. He is piqued that Phillipa shows no interest in him at first, but when he catches the fire in her eyes whether it be anger or desire, he finds that he wants nothing more than to have her direct these emotions at him. The sexual attraction between them is strong from their first meeting and the author skillfully manipulates the story and characters so that the reader waits with baited breath for those first illicit touches. The love scenes between them are explosive, emotional and heartfelt, desire and lust and longing rolled into one.
The secondary characters play a key role in the story. Phillipa is pursued by other men both in a threatening and non-threatening manner and this adds to the suspense and tension of the story. Anthony and Phillipa's families also add to the dynamics and give the reader insight into society's expectations and social mores of the time.
Well researched, with an interesting background, engaging characters, steamy love scenes and a riveting plot with a dash of suspense, this story will delight historical romance lovers. I hope to see more from this author soon. 5 wonderful stars!
Let me just say when I finished The Duke's Shotgun Wedding, book 1 in the House of Calydon series, I immediately friend-ed Stacy Reid on FB and messaged her about how much I LOVED the novella and asked when the next book was coming out. Because I needed it like five minutes before I reached the last page. So that'll just give you a clue about how much I was looking forward to her full length novel about Sebastian's brother Anthony. And I so wasn't disappointed. Actually, it exceeded what I imagined. You have a wounded hero, betrayed by the father who was supposed to love and protect him. You have the heroine with a secret of her own that makes treading the already treacherous waters of London society even more precarious. Throw in a "suitor"--and I use the term very lightly, You'll see why, because why wouldn't you buy this book?--who refuses to take "no" for an answer, and the story opens with a smoldering attraction concealed beneath a sharp battle of wits, a dance of wills, and a God-I-hate-you villain. Anthony is determined to melt Phillipa's icy exterior--an icy exterior that she's erected out of necessity against past hurts and the harsh judgments of the ton and her family. They're both wounded and watching them come together, both emotionally as well as in SUPER HOT love scenes, is what romance is all about. Breath-taking romance. The kind that has you placing your hand over your heart while you're reading. I loved the drama, the back-and-forth that was dry, witty and funny but so vulnerable, too. Anthony and Phillipa both won me over from page one. All I have to say is the scene in the ballroom...the declaration... I'm not saying anymore because it would spoil the moment, but oh wow. I sighed, I freaking clapped! LOL! I really did! It was so awesome. I loved The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell, and it will go back on my TBR pile so I can read it again...and again... Looking forward to more books by Stacy Reid! Impatiently looking forward, I might add...
OMG, literally just finished this and I need more!!! I first started it because I'm working on the Scandalous line and I love Stacy but it literally sucked me in within the first chapter. I couldn't put this book down and it drove me crazy that my kids Frozen movie night at school started when I had just 15 minutes left in the book! I was so tempted to sneak out and finish it but restrained myself until we got home.
I loved Anthony and found his character to be refreshing in that he wasn't dead set against marriage. In fact, he has decided he wants to settle down and have a family. He is gallant, caring and has a slightly darker sexual side I hadn't been expecting.
Phillipa was an interesting character as well. She didn't want to be bound by society's rules and longed to live life free of these restrictions. I loved her spirit and the fact that for the most part she was true to herself and what she wants vs bending to anyone else's will.
The chemistry between the two was so hot I swear I needed to stand in front of a fan to cool off. If there was ever a book that made me want to hug it in happiness this would be one. I must go read The Duke's Shotgun Wedding now to see how Lady Jocelyn and Sebastian end up and I need Constance and Payton's stories now!!! Please write faster Stacy. :)
A charming, sweet, and utterly enjoyable historical romance, The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell was simply lovely. I really liked this fabulous book.
Phillipa was a likable heroine. She was an independently minded person who chafed against the confines of society. She wanted to travel the world to get away from those rules, but once she met Anthony, she was clever enough to realize that that wasn't the only way to find freedom. I thought she was a lovely character
Anthony was wonderful. Very sweet and loyal to the people he cared about. And, once he knew he wanted something, he wasted no time in going after it. He was a perfect hero.
The romance was both sweet and steamy. Phillipa and Anthony were perfectly matched, both dancing to the beat of their own tune and unwilling to let society tell them differently. And, they had some seriously hot chemistry that turned the heat level up. They were a lovely couple.
The plot moved quickly and I was hooked the entire way through. The story was light, sweet, and I enjoyed every bit of it. And, the ending was just perfect.
The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell was a fantastic historical romance. It was a lovely read that I thoroughly enjoyed. Romance lovers, this is a book you'll definitely want to check out.

I really loved this book. It was given to me as a gift. The story had a great flow. It was steamy hot! This is the second book of this author I have read and I love her style of writing.
Anthony Thornton is from a very powerful family. He is at the point in his life where he wants something more significant in it. At a ball, he comes across a woman who has been dubbed The Ice Maiden. She is deeply intriguing to him.
Miss Phillipa Peppiwell is an American heiress who now lives in London. Her family has moved from Boston to avoid an incident which could taint their status in society. Phillipa, who thrives for adventure, knows she has to curtail that side of her in order to make a good match to benefit her family. She hates this new responsibility but feels guilty because she was the cause of "the incident". She knows she has been given the name of the Ice Maiden, but this does not matter, she is what she is for good reason. She meets an infamous rogue who threatens to melt that Ice Maiden status. He is extremely sexy and handsome. He also has an invisible way to penetrate the wall she has built. He is dangerous, if she is not careful, she could be in danger in succumbing to his way.
There are other dangers which lurke around both of these characters.
OH EM GEE. Ms. Reid just shot to the top of my auto-buy list. Phillipa Pippiwell may be the ice queen, but all that cold turns to blistering HAWT steam when the delicious Anthony Thornton gets his hands in all the right places. The writing here is exquisite--and I don't mean overwritten, but with each word beautifully placed on the page. The plot is fresh and original, with definite twists on the usual scenarios of the era making for a truly exciting read. I found I held my breath more than once. I tensed. I happy-sighed. And yes, I swooned. The big moment at the end was amazeballs and I don't want to spoil it for anyone, so I'll just say my breath caught and I wanted to yell at a bunch of parlor-dwellers and my heart broke...THEN THE THING HAPPENED and I'm pretty sure a bug flew in my eye or something because I *may have cried* and ERMAGERD was it ever beautiful. I'm hooked, Ms. Reid. Freaking HOOKED. Amazing work.
ARC received in trade for an honest review...then I bought the book anyway. So there.

The Irrestiable Miss Peppiwell was just that irresistible. I adore this author and her writings . She is thirsty and quickly becoming my favorite with these stories . The heroine for me was too quirky and not my cup of tea but I adored the hero. It was so cute and like-able, you can tell he loved her to the fullest extent.
I wont say I did not have some issues with the story namely the heroine, I could not understand her choices and the constant whining. Felt it was too much in every situation.
A sensual and decadent read, The Irresistible Miss Peppiwell delivers an intoxicating blend of sweet and sexy romance that made me unable to put this book down. Lord Anthony was the perfect alpha-hero, a delicious embodiment of raw sexuality that instantly drew me in to the story. Like fire and ice, the hero and heroine clashed, and I adored discovering the little secrets that kept them apart.
The writing was superb--Miss Reid's rich descriptions making an already vibrant story a lush, hot treat for the senses and one that is not to be missed.
A short and steamy historical novella. I really liked parts of this book, but not as much as I expected given the pairing (icy/standoffish FMC + rakish MMC) and the amount of drama we got (they both have scandalous secrets). Maybe I just wasn’t feeling the characters? Honestly I kept wanting more glimpses of Sebastian and Jocelyn (the couple from the first book)
I also wasn’t a fan of the narrator (her American accent for the FMC and her MMC voice weren’t great) and switched to the ebook partway through.
With a longing for adventure, the last thing Phillipa Peppiwell wants is to marry. After a painful betrayal by a man she trusted, she is wary when she unwittingly catches the attention of roguishly handsome - and sinfully tempting - Lord Anthony Thornton. Forbidden desires she secretly yearns for threaten to crumble her icy facade and reveal a past scandal best kept buried.
Dissatisfied with his empty life, Lord Anthony seeks a deep and lasting connection... and finds himself intrigued by the Ice Maiden of the haute monde. Undaunted by Phillipa's aloof nature and her distaste for the idea of matrimony, he sets out to thaw the bewitching beauty by enticing her with adventures of the most sensual type. But he, too, hides a scandalous secret... and if it's discovered it could rip them apart.
Review:
I thoroughly enjoyed this story and found a new Author to read in the process!
This is story about the romance of Phillipa and Anthony, who both have secrets that could destroy their and their families standings in society. I thought it was well thought out and expertly written. I was totally engrossed from beginning to the end.
I have to say I was not sure what to make of Phillipa at first, but as I got to know her you can totally understand where she is coming from. I liked that she was trying to buck the system and be independent in a time where that was frowned upon. Anthony on the other hand Loved him from the get go. He is dashing, smart, a bit of a rogue and then throw in the dominant side of him and Whoa Momma! I loved their chemistry, I thought it was realistic and lovely to read and their intimate scenes had me fanning myself. I would love to see what happens to them and what adventures they go on. As far as bad guys, I think Lord Orwell is perfectly dastardly and I wanted to shoot him myself.
I had no idea this was a second book until I started writing my review and saw "The Duke's Shotgun Wedding", though you read about Sebastian and Jocelyn at the end of this story, I am definitely going to pick it up because there is another couple with some serious chemistry.
It's so refreshing to find a historical romance that comes loaded with hot scenes and passion. The Irresistible Miss Peppinwell is about a woman who defies society's conventions in her pursuit of freedom, and a man who seeks exactly that to feel fulfilled.
It's a very entertaining read thanks to:
- the lady's aloofness poses a challenge for the gentleman who coaxes her inner fire in the most ardent and delicious manner
- she's not shy about desires of the flesh which is a welcomed change in the usual female protagonists of this kind of romance
- both Philippa and Anthony carry a secret burden on their shoulders that makes for a lot of drama, adventure and heartache
I liked how forward both are with their desires, even if at the beginning Philippa is the Ice Maiden because of the dire situation she finds herself in. A certain nobleman is not behaving properly towards her and she has to put distance from this rake to protect her already feeble reputation.
It's true that Anthony is also daring with his advances, but their stances in life coincide so well that it helps with their fast intimacy.
Apart from the writing, perfectly attuned to the period, I enjoyed the mystery surrounding Philippa's past in Boston, and the unity in Anthony's family. His brother and sister have their personal tragedy to contend with. It felt real and was very appealing to read about.
Hot, dynamic, life-changing love story. Good assets for a historical romance, I believe.
