A well written (and translated) biography of a spiritual giant, Elder Paisius of Sihla, Romania. He gave countless hours of counsel to other Eastern Orthodox holy saints-to-be. Romania was squeezed tight by the demonic, ruthless, EVIL Communists after WWII. Endless hundreds of thousands were systematically tortured and killed. Christianity was all but illegal and Christians were not accepted, diversity or not. None of the woke government officials would stand up to the blood thirsty demons. However, many an Orthodox monastics stood up to the beast and in the end defeated it. God bless the people of Romania, Russia, and the Ukraine! Down with Communism, up with Spirituality! xoxoxo
I first learned of St, Paisios reading a book by Matushka Constantina Palmer where she quoted his teachings a few times. I felt like I wanted to know him better, and this book was a wonderful mix of biography and pious teachings. I chose this as a book to read before the 2021 Lenten journey and I am glad I did. His practical, simple advice to his spiritual children resonates with me every day. His teachings, like those of most Orthodox saints, are timeless and necessary for the journey to Salvation and “our Lille corner of Paradise.”
