Idris feels like he has finally found his place in the world. But his days of contentment are not destined to last.
When a fellow member of the Royal Guard begins to fall under the control of a dark force, Idris must find a way to help her. If he fails, he will lose his friend to madness. But to succeed, he and the Guards must travel to a distant land and complete tasks that seem impossible. They must track down a race of people who no longer exist and find a place lost to time. With only the guidance of folk tales and myths, they will uncover secrets and search for a flicker of hope in the darkness.
Callie comes from a family of writers, and has loved telling stories from an early age. She dabbled a bit in poetry and other short works until she discovered her passion for novels. She is a wife and a mother, and currently lives in Utah with her family.
I really enjoyed the first book, but barely made it to halfway in this one. Cowan is a 47 year vet of an elite guard that doesn't have the ability to keep 1st years in line. He also hasn't been impressive in battle yet. Needs plans from first years to get by. No one can find a Forger, not even the shadowy cabal whose sole purpose in life is to kill all Forgers. Except this group of people that found one on the second spot they looked. Hildar is dumber than in the first book. Aherin has no growth. Idris is almost executed for self-defense. Nothing says good relations like executing another kingdom's royal guard that you're not at war with. It also feels written for a younger than the first one. Oh well.

As the second book in a series, this one met my expectations. There was more development of the original characters, and of some newly introduced ones. A love interest has become clear, though how it can come to fruition is left in doubt. The magic system is still vague, and I doubt that it will ever become more clear.
Again, I plan to read more from this author, certainly including any sequels of this book.
You have a bunch of fanatics attempting to murder you. They will continue until either you or they are dead. And you don't want to hurt them? Insane.
Usually I can get beyond the author's stupidity. In general I dislike the long drawn out one book per event strategy of most current authors. And I would have rated this book higher. But there is no fixing stupid.
I love these characters. They're what real heroes ought to be, and are each so real and well written. It was a delight to read this adventure. I can't wait to read the next!
I enjoyed the continued adventures of the magic weapon royal guard. It ended with a sad time with the loss of the Royal guard leader. I can't wait to read book 3.
Again we visit Idris in this second book of the Fire Sower saga. I still like the fact that despite his advantages and hero status, he is flawed and still has a lot to learn, and that his lessons are hard. He still manages to save the day and has his moments where he is the best, but in the day to day, he is just another guard.
We get to see more of their word and learn more about the magical weapons they use, we get to see more magic and get to know different cultures, also we get a love interest.
In general it was good and kept the story flowing while remaining true to the character, the growth was consistent and felt right.
