Ever wonder how spaceships work?

Rocket Science is a tour of the latest in spacecraft technology and planetary exploration by real-life aerospace engineer Andrew Rader and illustrator Galen Frazer.

Explaining the physics of space travel in a way that's easy to understand, the book is accessible to anyone. It's sure to ignite the imagination of kids of all ages, and even curious adults.

How do rockets work? Why do they use staging? What's an orbit? Is there gravity in space? How did we get to the Moon? How would we get to Mars? Could we get to another star? These are just a few of the questions discussed in Rocket Science.

Rocket Science is primarily aimed at kids in the 6-10 range, but its illustrations would be appealing to younger kids if parents were reading, and the book is even suitable as a light reader for adults interested in learning a thing or two about space engineering and planetary science.

This hardcover book features 42 full spread illustrations by professional graphic artist Galen Frazer. Rocket Science is the third book by Andrew and Galen, the first two being Epic Space Adventure and Mars Rover Rescue, which were aimed at younger kids.

Gorgeous double-page spreads by Galen Frazer using a starry background of the universe (and beyond) teach readers about spaceflight. The beginning pages wow, showing a dad and two kids in silhouette looking at the universe (the Milky Way highlighted), explaining how we are all made of stars. Andrew Radar's explanations are brief and clear, giving a beginning knowledge that will inspire more and more research. He includes familiar concepts like "gravity", the "solar system", and "earth and moon" that are beautifully highlighted with Frazer illustrations. Many more concepts include "How Rocket Engines Work", "Going to the Moon", "Exploring Mars" along with further information about Jupiter and Saturn. New concepts are also discussed with an added glossary in the backmatter. This special book will tickle everyone's space curiosity, child to adult!

Fantastic, well presented, sscience based book for Children

Rocket Science is the absolute best book I’ve seen for introducing and teaching children about space, spaceflight, and the future of space exploration. Highly recommend for teachers, classroom and school libraries. Parents, your children need this book! I am a Credentialed California Teacher, and I love this book!

have a 2-year-old who is absolutely over-the-moon about all things rockets. (Pun absolutely intended) I bought this book for him, hoping to introduce him to more advanced concepts of space exploration and rockets. This is a really excellent book that explains the science of going to space and exploring what's out there in a way that is understandable to children and interesting for adults. It covers everything from the basics of how rockets work, through multi-stage rockets, history and future of space missions and technology, and more. It's incredibly current, with recent and planned missions included, as well as discussing rocket re-usability. Andrew Rader possesses the rare combination of deep knowledge of science and the ability to communicate it in simple and understandable ways.

I will say that the concepts are probably a little more advanced than my 2 year old can quite grok at this point, but he's not far off. Certainly within a year or two, he'll get even more out of this book. But here's the best part, the illustrations in the book are beautiful and fun, so even if we don't cover all the science in the book every time we read, my son loves looking through the book and naming the planets and the spacecraft that he recognizes throughout.

Highly recommended.
