Reviewed for THC Reviews Drive Me Wild by Lori Foster - Wow! Lori Foster just went three for three. I went into reading Drive Me Wild with a certain degree of skepticism, because of not entirely liking Erica due to her brash manner. I figured it might be a good read at best, so I couldn't have been more shocked when this novella was yet another fabulous story, making the entire Brava Girlfriends series sheer perfection for me.
As I mentioned Erica was a little too cynical and outspoken for my taste. In fact, it was almost inconceivable to me that Erica was friends with Asia and Becky, because they seemed so much different than her. In the first two novellas of the series she comes off as something of an ice queen who more or less tolerates men but doesn't really like them that much. I think Erica had a tendency to intimidate almost everyone around her and as a result, most men steered clear of her. Those she did date never earned her trust or respect and it didn't appear that she'd been in many, if any, serious relationships because of it. Why she acts the way she does finally becomes crystal clear in this story, and I was very pleasantly surprised to find myself relating to her after all. In the end, her willingness to open herself up to Ian and allow herself to be vulnerable with him really softened her hard edges.
All the heroes in this series have been awesome, and Ian was no exception. I enjoyed the fact that he isn't classically handsome. He's a blue-collar worker who's attractive in a more rugged way, but he certainly has presence and personality galore that more than makes up for it. I love how Ian goes toe-to-toe with Erica right from the start. His alpha male pheromones were practically emanating off the pages. He's been crazy about Erica for months and is a really astute guy who understands her in a way that no one else does. Ian may be an alpha, but he's still pretty laid back. Erica's ballsy nature actually amuses him. He's incredibly intelligent too. I could almost see the wheels turning in his head as he tried to outwit Erica at her own game, making her think that she was the one in charge when it was mostly him who had the upper hand. Best of all, I just love how he pampered Erica with great food, a bubble bath, plenty of TLC and lots of mind-blowing sex. In my opinion, his every action showed just how much he really cared for her.
Asia and Cameron (Satisfy Me) and Becky and George (Indulge Me) all returned to round out the cast. Drive Me Wild is the third and final novella in the Brava Girlfriends series. It was first published in the I Brake for Bad Boys anthology and later reprinted in the single-author anthology Truth or Dare along with its two companion novellas. Drive Me Wild was a perfect end to a perfect trilogy of novellas. After such a satisfying reading experience, I'm now greatly looking forward to trying more of Lori Foster's works. Star Rating: *****
Something Wilde by Janelle Denison – Something Wilde is a very steamy little novella that is the first story in Janelle Denison's Wilde series. It focuses primarily on the sexual explorations of the hero and heroine, so there isn't a lot of character development. Still, I mostly liked both Eric and Jill. Even though Jill has had the hots for her “boss” for several months, she is reluctant to have a relationship with him because of an affair gone bad with a former co-worker. Eric is an advertising executive with close family ties, and the typical playboy who never gets too involved with a woman but falls hard and fast for Jill.
In the beginning, Eric seemed just a bit too cocky and obsessed with Jill for my taste, and the way he initiated their “fantasy” relationship, watching her bathe without her knowing it and then sneaking into her bedroom was a little stalkerish. Once things got started between them though, he proved himself to be a tender and skilled lover. The love scenes were very spicy and borderline erotic with lots of creativity. Normally, I'm not a big fan of romances that begin as casual sex-only relationships, but this one worked OK for me. There was just enough building of an emotional connection to make me believe Eric and Jill were falling in love, and I can't deny Janelle Denison created an appealing fantasy with the idea of a secret lover who comes to fulfill your every desire in the dark of night, but pretends you're nothing more than acquaintances in the light of day.
Overall, Something Wilde was a surprisingly enjoyable read. It also introduced Eric's two brothers, Steve and Adrian, who become the heroes of Wilde Thing and The Wilde One (Bad Boys to Go anthology) respectively. I really liked Ms. Denison's writing style. She definitely has a knack with the steamy love scenes and in my opinion, Something Wilde was a pretty solid story too. This was my first read by Janelle Denison, but I'm looking forward to continuing the Wilde series soon. Star Rating: ****
Note: This novella contains some fairly erotic content, including mild voyeurism and dominant behavior, light bondage, blindfolding, and the creative use of a strand of pearls. In my opinion, everything was pretty tastefully done, but it could make some readers uncomfortable.
Touch Me by Shannon McKenna - Touch Me was my first read by Shannon McKenna, and it left me with somewhat mixed feelings. I had heard that Ms. McKenna has created some serious alpha males, and I can see why she's earned that reputation. Her writing in many ways reminded me of Lora Leigh's with the stubborn alpha hero and lots of arguing between him and the heroine, which isn't really my cup of tea. The story started off pretty good, but the further I got into it, the harder it was to remain engaged. Practically all the hero and heroine did was eat, have wild monkey sex, and argue, including during sex, which wore thin after a while.
As individuals, I generally like Jonah and Tess. Tess has a troubled past and some fairly significant body image issues. She's petite but has a generous bosom and rear. This and several other “imperfections” in her appearance and personality earned Tess some pretty harsh criticism from both her mother and her ex-fiancé. Tess is also understandably reluctant to become involved with someone like Jonah whom she assumes, from the suspicious claw marks on his back, is a playboy who only sees her as his next conquest. All of this made her vulnerable, but the way Jonah handles her issues was a little odd to me. I loved how Jonah was a whiz in the kitchen and cooked Tess delicious meals, and I also loved how he pursued her and always told her how beautiful she was. However, Tess's issues were so deep-seated that sometimes him saying the smallest thing could set her off, and then he would just get angry right back at her for being too sensitive. I really didn't understand him using anger to provoke her during sex either. That seemed counterproductive to me, and in several of their sexual encounters both characters seemed to be using sex as a weapon, which was not romantic to me at all. I kept trying to make sense of it, but the psychology behind what they were trying to accomplish simply eluded me. Underneath his hard, sometimes arrogant exterior, Jonah had some mild vulnerabilities of his own in that he was afraid of losing his grandfather, even though the odd codger won't speak to him after Jonah turned down the opportunity to run his bank. In the end though, both characters' problems just seemed to magically melt away, which didn't entirely work for me.
Overall, Touch Me had some good points and other than being a little narrative heavy at times, the writing itself was pretty good. If Jonah and Tess had been more consistently nice to one another instead of going back and forth between gentler moments and intense anger, it would have been a great story. As is though, I simply couldn't become fully invested in their HEA when they were fighting almost right up until the end. There were things about each character that I related to, but the way the author handled their relationship, their stubborn resistance to openly communicating, and the way anger seemed to turn them on didn't really make sense to me. Touch Me was good enough to keep me open to trying more of Shannon McKenna's work in the future, but didn't really wow me. Star Rating: ***1/2
Note: This novella contains some mildly erotic content in the form of a little light bondage and dominant behavior, as well as a small amount of explicit language that is typically reserved for the erotic sub-genre.
This was from a blind date with a book thing. It was three short stories in a 300 page book and they were all so cringe. The book was written in 2002 and I can tell. If I had to take a shot for every time the three authors tried to use the word pen15 in a sexy way I would be deceased.
Drive Me Wild by Lori Foster Erica has a fantasy to fulfill. Ian wants to be the one to do it for her. I liked this one okay. About 3 stars. Very steamy book. Not enough substance to the characters, though.
Something Wilde by Janelle Denison Eric Wilde is hot for Jill Richardson, his temporary co-worker. They make a deal to fulfill fantasies at night and keep things strictly business during the day. The first of the Wilde series. I would rate this one 3 1/2 stars. This is the best story in this anthology. The characters are more developed and the story is right for its length. Another steamy read. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Touch Me by Shannon McKenna Jonah Markham has the hots for his masseuse Tess Langley and will do whatever it takes to get her. hmm...my least favorite. I wouldn't rate this one higher than 2 stars. Both characters were annoying. Too much fighting and anger to "break through." I only finished it because I can't leave a book unfinished. More steamy than the first two...
Foster's story was fun, McKenna's ok, Denison's not ok.
I've rated other McKenna stories as 5, but this story, Touch Me, was the first one I would rate as a 3, for just ok. The story line and plot were not good. I did not like Tess. She was overly sensitive, weak, self-centered and not willing to see Jonah's point of view. She kept misjudging him. For a list of my reviews of other Shannon McKenna books, see my 5 star review of “Ultimate Weapon” posted 11/15/08.
Denison's story, Something Wilde, was the worst of the three stories. Terrible plot. Not believable. I couldn't get into it.
The best story in this book was Foster's Drive Me Wild. It was a nice, fun story. I enjoyed Ian's patience, methods and love for Erica and his eventual success. I wouldn't recommend buying the book, but getting it from a library to read the Foster story might be worthwhile.
I have read both Lori Foster and Shannon McKenna before and have, for the most part, enjoyed them. I got this novella because I had intended on reading the first of a series of books by Janelle Denison. If these stories by these writers were the norm, I would have saved my time in reading them. As a matter of fact, two of the three stories were abandoned. I question reading the rest of the Janelle Denison series but will give it a try. That said, if you are interested in a book about steamy sex with no real story line, this one is for you. I rate this at about 1/2 just to make me feel better about wasting my time with it.
Drive Me Wild - Lori Foster - 2/5 - Erica Lee, who has basically been a prickly, man-hating woman throughout this series is approached by Ian, her co-worker who she lusts for. He insists that everyone knows about the whole porn shop game and that they should just skip the whole thing and go to bed together. Erica doesn’t like how he takes control and how submissive she feels around him, but she’s willing to give it a go. Ian has a hidden agenda. He set the whole thing up so that he could finally get Erica where he wanted her - in his bed and in his life. He just needs to show her that he can please her and she can trust him. It’s funny because I went into this fully prepared to dislike Erica, since she’s been so cynical and disagreeable. But to my surprise, it was Ian that I disliked. He was so smug and overly arrogant about being able to make Erica submit to him...to be the one she softens for. And for some reason, I wanted him to fail. I feel like Ian’s entire focus was on getting what HE wanted. As the big strong man who can clearly see that Erica has trust issues, he wants to fix her. Even after Erica admits that all she wants is a guy who won’t want to change her, he tells himself that changing her so she’s less prickly doesn’t count. And for some reason I found myself disappointed that Erica did in fact have to change for him, but he didn't’ have to change for her (which incidentally the characters do discuss and I did not care for Ian’s viewpoint on that either). So, I’m pretty sure the point of this story is not supposed to be me yelling at my kindle to tell Erica that she needs to take back control and show Ian who is boss. Maybe I felt this way because there wasn’t enough time in the story for Ian to do anything but bulldoze over Erica’s trust issues and I resented that. A woman with Erica’s depth of mistrust for guys totally needs more than a weekend of hot sex to overcome this. But Ian seems to think that the hot sex and the love he feels (but she doesn’t seem to) is more than enough and then they can have their HEA. About the time the story started wrapping up and I could see that her issues were going to miraculously disappear (healed by the wang) I had ceased to care about their HEA.
Something Wilde - Janelle Denison - 3 /5 - Eric Wilde is hot for marketing freelancer Jill Richardson, but she has plans for her business and doesn’t want a work-related relationship screwing those up. So she turns him down. But Eric is determined to have Jill and tracks her down at home, offering to fulfill her sexual fantasies in secret, while maintaining a professional relationship at work. She agrees, but neither of them is able to keep their heart out of it. I’ll say this. There is a lot of sex happening in this story. It’s definitely very sexy. There’s so much sex though that I had trouble believing that Eric was actually in love when they’d worked together, but only spent 1 ½ nights together and didn’t really share very much by then. Jill’s feelings seemed a bit more realistic. Also, Eric started out a bit on the creepy side, since she’d already told him no and he shows up in her backyard, watching her undress before her bath and then afterwards just strolls in, as he pleases and seduces her. His behavior definitely bordered on creepy. I did like the end though as Eric is the one to put his feelings on the line for her.
Touch Me - Shannon McKenna - 2 / 5 - So this started out okay with Tess, a professional masseuse, looking forward to Jonah’s appointment. He’s been asking her out, but she’s super wary of him because he’s hot and rich and she’s been badly burned already. So he manipulates her into spending a weekend alone with him and they have crazy sex together and sort of fall in love? See, things between Tess and Jonah were more fucked up than I had any reason to expect in a romance...or even an erotica. Jonah is obsessed and Tess has A LOT of emotional baggage and it ends up with them basically having angry sex or bringing a lot of emotional baggage right on into bed with them. The first time they’re together, Tess freaks out because it feels too intimate and she starts trying to push Jonah off of her who basically forces her and keeps going because she’s responding to it. This sort of thing happens again too, when Tess wakes up and realizes what she’s done and wants to leave. Jonah forces her to stay until she’s calmed down...physically holds her down and won’t release her. Now I can’t condone this behavior in any way shape or form, but I could buy into it a bit more if they knew each other for a while before it happened. But Jonah doesn’t know Tess at all and he acts like he knows that what he’s doing is best for her. She could be legitimately panicked and begging for him to let her go and he doesn’t. This story had MAJOR consent issues for me. Then, even worse, is she turns the tables and does the same thing to him. After this things are on shaky ground for them and Jonah laments to himself that something she said “foretold doom for this fragile, beautiful thing budding between them.” I can’t figure where he’s seeing anything beautiful happening between them. All I saw were two people who were desperately in need of therapy and were entering into a pretty damn toxic relationship. This was the antithesis of romance...at least right up there til the end when they magically put aside their emotional baggage and get their HEA.

Drive Me Wild-was ok ending for the series. Something Wilde-I would have been ok with this story if they had just agreed to the affair instead of Eric breaking into her yard then violating Jill's privacy by being a peeping tom. It was just creepy and the fact that Jill found nothing wrong with it was stupid. Touch Me-Tess was an immature, messed up idiot who needs to see a therapist. Jonah would have been better off without her. And there was no resolution at all to their issues with their families; no real story just rounds of sex.
If you want just smut, this is you’re book. The plots weren’t super great, and the first two made me cringe a bit while reading. However, I was hooked the whole time and finished the book in two nights. Super easy read and very entertaining.
I enjoyed this book. I got it for the second story, Something Wilde, the start of Denison's Wilde series. A theme of dominance ran through all the stories. The first short story, Drive Me Wild was my second favorite one. The story's main characters were Erica and Ian. I'll get right into it. This story read as if there were two previous where Erica's friends and co-workers met their husbands. Ian is a big man, but I don't get a good sense of how tall or big is supposed to be. He does intimidate almost everyone in the company but Erica. He simply does it for her. I thought the sex scenes nice and steamy. I also liked how Ian slowly seduced Erica, all day at work and for a few hours at his home. Previously I stated that this story seemed like it was the last in a trio, I thought the author did a good job of providing enough information to fill in blanks in this story. Very enjoyable. The second short story, Something Wilde, was by far my favorite. The sex scenes were very, very hot-4.5 chile peppers. This starts the Wilde series with the youngest brother Eric who has Jill in his sights. He wants her and keeps his word on their affair. He professes his love for her first after proding from another co-worker, she admits her love. Since the storyline is about sex, that is the majority of this story. The author does a great foreshadowing job of introducing the female lead from the second book in the series. She also gives lets the reader meet the other two brothers, Steve and Adrian. For me, this story was worth the price and wait for the book. Short story 3, Touch Me, was full of too much angst. I felt the story needed more space to tie up all the loose ends that were present. Because it did not have the needed space, the author rushed the ending. I really don't feel this fits into the erotica genre. Perhaps it's because of the dominance. I did not like the female lead, Tess. I was a lot more sympathic to the male lead, Jonah. I did not believe Tess getting as strong as she did as quickly as she did. Again, not enough space. I think I'll give the author another chance, perhaps with a novel. I was totally confused as to what happened between pages 286 and 300. Tess becomes this superwoman who decides she'll controll Jonah and make him beg. He doesn't mind, but then it turns and she becomes mean. I missed that turn. My reader partner could not explain it to me either. Perhaps someone reading this review can. If you like a lot of emotion in your reads, this will be one for you.
Something Wilde 3 1/2 stars I recently read Wilde Thing by the author (and loved it), Eric and Jill were secondary characters in Wilde Thing.
Jill is a freelance consultant at the advertising/marketing firm where Eric works at, and he wants her bad. Their collaboration is coming to an end and Eric decides to make his move. Jill is leery of getting involved with someone she works with because of a bad experience in the past. They embark on a secret affair meant to end when their work association is over.
Eric is a master at seduction. The love scenes are super sexy/yummy. The ending is a little abrupt but it was great to have the update on them in Wilde Thing.
Touch Me by Shannon McKenna 1 /12 stars
This started out so good and just fell apart. Tess, a massage therapist (with a lot of personal baggage) is attracted to her client Jonah but is too professional to accept a date with him though he keeps asking.
He makes her a business proposition involving a weekend at his mountain house. From here the story starts spiraling.
Of course there is descriptive sex, lots of it. But everything is ruined when Tess turns into Sybil for no apparent reason. She started out great, she was insecure but mature and knew what she wanted for herself and her future. She turned into such a shrew, one minute enjoying herself, next playing games the next screaming and snapping at him. She doesn't want to share her background with him but gets totally pissed when he doesn't share his own secrets. The weekend ends with her running out the door.
When he goes to see her later, mainly for her support because his grandfather is having heart surgery, she is a heinous bitch to him. At that point, I really wished he'd just kick her to the curb.
The secondary characters were cartoonish (the receptionist, Tess's mother, even her roommate Trish). I really don't know if I would bother reading anything else by this author.
Very good but too short! The ending is abrupt as Erica suddenly capitulates and agrees to marry him. It seemed that Foster had just realized that she had written the required number of pages, and simply stopped. It's a shame, since it spoils the lovely tension that she has spent so much time creating, and is completely untrue to her characters. Even just another page or two would have given her enough time to let the expected ending develop more naturally and realistically.
Something Wilde by Janelle Denison
This was probably my favorite of the three stories in this anthology but they were all great! After this story though I'll never look at pearl necklaces the same! The first of the "Wilde" books.
Touch Me by Shannon McKenna
This was a bit darker of the three stories, but still, I found it very good, and yes, very hot too. I just got a little tired of the insecurity shown by them both when they have a chance to grab on to a love of a lifetime. Jonah's insecurity is based on his childhood - his parents were killed and he spent his youth with his grandfather who wanted him to take over his business but Jonah wanted to make it on his own and he did very well for himself but now he feels that women only want him for his money and not himself. While Tess's insecurity comes from her upbringing - being the only child of parents that she could never please and then having a fiance who keeps trying to change her to conform to what he wanted in life.

Drive Me Wild by Lori Foster Erica and Ian were fun. She's hiding her real desires from her friends even though they are all supposed to be fulfilling their true desires. Ian knows what her desires are and they aren't what she says. So he calls her bluff and decides to be her sex slave in order to have an opportunity to show her what she really wants. Ian comes across as an overbearing ass who is secure in his masculinity.
Something Wilde by Janelle Denison I confess that I know that I read this story but I don't remember it well. So I do remember that Jill doesn't trust men, particularly in the workplace. She's been seriously burned so see keeps to herself and tries to fend off the creeps. So in a perfectly stalkersque move, he follows her home and suggests the he becomes her fantasy lover. No strings and completely no overlap between work and personal lives. It's a fairly hot story.
Touch Me by Shannon McKenna Tess and Jonah. oh this story is interesting. Tess has a family that puts her down about how well endowed she is and she has also been burned by stupid men. But she somehow has the hots for Jonah and he has the hots for her. Jonah constantly asks her out and she constantly says no. His life is stressful but he is forever grateful for Tess' abilities. But in a fairly manipulative move Jonah pretends to have a party and asks her to do massages at the party but there's no party. Somehow they manage to fall in lust. But they have lots of issues to work through. It was an okay story. I wasn't in love but I didn't hate it either.
12/18/2012: ok, so far i've only just read Denison's story Something Wilde because I'm reading her Wilde series at the moment and so far so good for the book :)
10/09/13: Lori Foster came up with a series called Brava Girlfriends (Brava for the publishing company and girlfriends cuz the series is about 3 female friends) and published the second story, Indulge me, in this anthology. Basically, a new sex shop opens up in this 'very quiet' (lol) town and the 3 friends make a pact with each other to tell each other 1. what their favorite sexual fantasy is and 2. visit the sex shop and the first male that comes in while they are there who also shows interest in their fantasy (ie: bondage, spanking, etc), they have to go out on a date with them and act out their fantasy with them. ********HILARIOUS************* In my opinion, the best story comes in the anthology with Becky, titled Indulge Me. Second I would put,Satisfy Me, about Asia, published in All Through The Night. And last but not least we have Erica's story published in this book, I BRAKE FOR BAD BOYS, titled Drive Me Wild. I cannot give enough props for humor and ingenuity. I loved the premise of the stories and also the execution. They really are quite hilarious and very easy to read. I read all three in just a few hours
Drive Me Wild - 2 stars. Lori Foster is always hit and miss with me. This one was seriously a miss.
Something Wilde - 1 star. I hated this one. So much. I've never read this author before and I don't know if I will again. I had so many issues with the characters in this book and skimmed a lot because I couldn't stand it anymore. Showing up at her house after she's already said no and then standing outside her balcony door, watching her change, is not someone you want around. That's stalking. And if some guy randomly walks into your bedroom from your open balcony door, are you really just going to stand there?
Touch Me - 4 stars. I love Shannon McKenna, which is one of the reasons I picked this up. It's not always the best reading out there but this one was entertaining and kept me invested in the characters.
More like 2 1/2 stars. I read two of the three novellas of the book. The main reason for reading was Janelle Denison's "Something Wilde" which was better than the second title in that series "Wilde Thing". The "romance" between Eric and Jill is less "hicky" but Denison uses again the whole Fantasy/Role play as an erotic ploy. It gets old fast even if in this one she didn't go off the rail as in Wilde Thing.
The surprise was Shannon McKenna's Touch me. McKenna's way of using the Fantasy/Role play as a plot device is used intelligently and usefully. Tess is a mess emotionally and so is Jonas. Both characters find something in the other that works. McKenna succeeded in less than 100 pages in creating two flesh and blood character without going over the top.
This final story of the adventure to the sex store of three friends had me laughing. In the previous ones each guy seemed to manipulate how things worked out, but not as much as this one. Ian blatantly went after Erica, conning George and Cameron to go along with his plan. It worked out pretty well until the previous couples showed up at his house to bust him. What worked in his favor was that he had just come clean with Erica. I will say that things got funny with all six of these people, all of them pointing fingers at others, while defending the one that they loved. All in all it wrapped things up in a great way.
LORI FOSTER - meh, haven't been a Foster fan in many years, I'm definitely NOT interested in reading the first two stories in this mini best-friends series she's done; I could be more forceful in my comments but I don't want to be thrown off GR :( . JANELLE DENISON - read this book specifically to start the "Wilde" series and I can't say I've read the book unless I read the whole thing (like tolerating the Foster tale); loved the Denison story, really looking forward to Adrian's story now . SHANNON MCKENNA - first time reading this author, started slow for me but heated up nicely, though I wasn't 100% warmed up to the h/h
There are three stories in this anthology. Here's a list in the order of how I liked them:
Something Wilde by Janelle Denison (3 stars) I liked this story the most out of the three.
Drive Me Wild by Lori Foster (3 stars) I read the other two stories by Lori Foster that were part of this Porn Shop pact a few years ago. I've been wondering where this third story was. I didn't like this one as much as I did the other ones that featured with Arial and Becky.
Touch Me by Shannon McKenna (1 stars) I didn't particularly like the characters in this story.
Erica Lee is more than just challenged by Ian Conrad. He is out to indulge her fantasies, but ends up gaining his.
Jill Richardson has already been burned by missing work with romance, but Eric Wilde drives her once more, to the Wilde side.
Tess Langley has hopes to finally live up to the potential she believes she has, and Jonah Markham is more than willing to work towards that potential together.
I have been trying to read anthologies and appreciating them for what they are. This one had a lot of promise because it was written by Lori Foster, Janelle Denison and Shannon McKenna...all authors that I usually enjoy. Unfortunately this was like the book that wouldn't end. Each individual story was pretty lame...needless to say...not gonna read again
It took me a lot longer than I thought to finish the last novella, McKenna's Touch Me. I just couldn't get into it. Not sure I'd it was the story or me. It is my least favorite of the three. My favorite was Dennison's Something Wilde.
I loved all thereof these stories, but the last one by Shannon McKenna was my favorite! "Touch Me" was explosive, sexy, and touching. A romantic tale that wove around realistically flawed characters trying to come to terms with each other and ultimately themselves. :-)
