It's a little surprising that this book has so few ratings given that it was made into a movie at one point and it is about a pretty compelling subject.

The book starts as 5 kids, the oldest being 11 years of age, are dumped by the side of the road by their parents who drive off never to be seen again. The children are determined to stick together and fear that seeking help would cause them to be split up. So they live on their own, for a brief time, taking care of themselves as best they can. Eventually they come to the attention of the authorities and, as they guessed, are split up when placed into the foster care system. The rest of the book details their experience in the system as the oldest girl struggles to reunite the children.

I read it awhile ago but I recall it as a good book about a tough topic that I read more than once.

This is the best book. It is a true story about a 12 year old who dared to buck the foster system. It is a tear jerk and the movies is twice as good. I have read this book several times. Great read.
