Code Jumpers... ...skilled hackers who meet strict criteria, are the traffickers of the new world. Guns, drugs, just about anything else you might need or want in the heavily moderated base game world of Re.Generation, the Code Jumpers can get it for you. As one of the very few people in the US who can dive into Re.Generation without getting stuck, Eddie is one such Code Jumper. Eddie likes his job, he gets to be a demigod who sells weed and guns to mere mortals every time he goes to work, but following a catastrophic event that affects both the real world and Re.Generation, access to the game is restricted and he becomes locked outside in the dreaded real world. Fast-forward five years to a world where certain cities are becoming more and more dangerous to live in, and Eddie is forced to go back. Before he knows it, he's jumping around Re.Generation and many of its expansions in a last-ditch effort to stop what promises to be Hiroshima compared to what was a slap on the wrist with the last event. A video game. A terrorist. A hacker and his AI. What could go wrong?

( Format : Audiobook )
"Have you ever played Frogger?"
Eddy is a hacker, not a player, and he dives in and out of the fully immersive game, Regeneration, earning a living delivering packages between the outside and inside, aided by this AI implant Quin. Until the Rapture shuts it all down.
Missing money and one of his legs, and feeling at least in part responsible, Eddy eventually agrees to return to Regeneration. This is an humerous, fast paced, original actioned, deliciously dialogued and, just, a slow grown romance of the sparring kind. Narrator Michael Norman Johnson is perfect as Eddy, reacting to the text with emotion and enthusiasm , allowing the intrinsic wit to shine through, and his voicing s of all protagonists, but especially of Eddy and Quin, are clearly defined, separate and appropriate. His reading is fast, matching the novel's pace, but never strained or unclear and always bubbling with humour. A fine performance which greatly adds to the enjoyment of the book.Sent

My thanks to the rights holder of Code Jumper, who, at my request via Audiobook Boom, freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. And I really loved it from opening to end. I am not, nor have ever been, a gamer but the S.F. potential opened up within these stories is great. Many have the on line scoring with levellings up etc.built into them. This book does not: instead of us a crazy through the looking glass thriller which shifts and turns, sparkles and terrifies, all so quickly moving it takes one's breath away.
Turn on, then in and be transported to another world. Recommended.

3.5 / 5

So the first thing on my mind about this book is the title - "a GameLit novel." I am not sure if this is a new niche sub-genre, or if it's some fancier term for LitRPG, but I felt that this was more science fiction than a GameLit novel. Reason being - there just wasnt the nuances of the game itself (stats, leveling up, etc) that a normal gamelit novel would have. This felt more like a science fiction novel (like Tron, almost) that had the premise or setting of occurring within a game world.

Second thing I took off stars for was for "talking directly to the reader." I really dislike a story when characters in a story stop to take the time to talk to you, specifically, the reader, and not just speaking rhetorically.

So on to the good. The presentation was good - I listened to the audible version. I liked the story overall, and the main character - with his flaws - was an anti-hero that was so irritable, that I ended up loving his character. The edgy dynamic between the MC and his AI was well done, too. There were some plot-gaps and other parts that were leaving me with questions, but the premise was well put together and I enjoyed the MC going through the quests. Plus, with a faux-nemesis named Calamezzi, how awesome is that!

While I think this needed work/editing, I enjoyed it enough overall to recommend it to others.

I didn't read this it was an audiobook copy on audible that I was given a free copy to review at my request and have voluntarily left this review. It was decent I've read a few of this author's other works, and I particularly didn't care for them. If I would have noticed who it was I would not have requested a copy of this just to prevent a biased review. Then saying that it's a lot better than his build a harem series in my opinion. There was times where I seriously enjoyed it, but it just didn't flow entirely right in my opinion. Even then I'm not sure exactly what was wrong with the flow other than it just felt a little off every now and then something would feel forced or just random. But other than that it seems like it's a halfway decent start point for a series, but the ending makes it and biblice on whether there could even be a follow-up.

Wow... this is the reason why I listen to LitRPG, or in this case, a GameLit novel! This book has all the campy fun that I've come to expect when I pick up a book in this genre.
Our Main character, Ed, is a bit acerbic, but he quickly grew on me as I realized that he was just as hard on himself, as anybody else... and he was working on being nicer to others.
I think the book could've been improved a bit if the editor had used a firmer hand when it comes to the repetition of words, but, as we came down to the finish, I was having so much fun, my earlier annoyance, became just a distant echo from a far off rumble...
Michael Norman Johnson was perfect for the voice of Ed, and his narration throughout the book was spot-on!
Listen up, people!  Get the book, and maybe YOU can be a Code Jumper too!

An adventure

I enjoyed reading this book and did it in one evening. The characters and dialogue were interesting, the plot was engaging, and the shifts in scene and action were well paced: not too quick and without a lot of downtime either.

I do enjoy seeing some character sheets in some LitRPG, but do not think it would have added anything to this story, especially as Eddie is a hacker. :)

I enjoyed the brief forays into the other game worlds during the second half of the book. I would be interested in learning more about the tree people. Maybe they will get their own story one day or at least one of the characters will spend more time there.

In full disclosure I was given a free copy of this audiobook to review. With that out of the way I enjoyed listening to this book. The narrator was good particularly for the main character Eddy and his AI implant named Quin. The story was a good mix between the real world and the artificial game world. Eddy and Quin were well done characters and showed growth from the beginning of the book to the end. There was a bit of romance for Eddy that wasn’t well developed and not relevant to the storyline so either it needed to be expanded upon to make it relevant or be cut from the book.

This is my first Gamelit (LitRPG) novel and I hated it. Just not my style. Loved the narrator Michael Norman Johnson - it was his enthusiastic, clear and attitude enhanced narration that even kept me listening to complete 30% of this story.

I'm not deleting out of my library YET. I usually give these books a second run later on. I take meds and sometimes concentration sucks. But for now, I'm giving this a 1 as I never finished.

I was given this audiobook free in exchange for an honest review. Sorry Zach. Just not for me.

Overall I enjoyed this one. It was a fun and fast paced read. The premise was interesting. The build up was entertaining, and the resolution was handled well. Some areas of the story could have used a little more depth, but it was a good experience.

Boring

I read this book to 43% I kept going it would get better. The synapses loads me to believe it would be exciting it was not. I almost gave up at 30% but then something happened that I thought would change the pace of the story. It did for 2% more. This book is repetitive different scenarios same formula.

This was a fun, fast-paced sci-fi novel. Yes, entering computer games has been done before; however Zachariah Dracoulis has created unique characters and plots. I would've given the book five stars, but it needs a little editing.
