I’m so thankful I read this book. It was a book that is easy to read and digest. The chapters are short, which I appreciated so I can pick it up/ leave it easily. I am walking away with a renewed understanding of prayer and very practical ways to implement a more vibrant prayer life. The author wove many personal stories throughout the book too, which I loved!
I've always heard this book was a classic but now I know why. Largely practical with faith-stirring stories intermixed, I would recommend to anyone whether learning to pray for the first time or someone looking for encouragement and ideas on continuing to grow their prayer life!
This book is fantastic if you want to discover more about having Prayer Time with God. It teaches you methods and techniques to try, as well as revealing things God wants from prayer. Sometimes it may seem silly, but God wants to hear us often, so share the silly, the great things of thankfulness, and the hard things you need help with or you know someone else may need help with. This book was EYE-OPENING in how to pray for others intentionally.
This is not just a book about why we should pray, or what the Bible says about prayer, or helpful tips about how to pray. It has aspects of all of those, but what really stood out to me was that this is a very realistic look at what a life that is saturated with prayer will/should look like, and how you can and should take steps to make your life a praying life.
This is a book that was an answer to a prayer about learning to learn to make my prayers more meaningful and also to pray better. Seriously for me life changing opening up greater channels to commune with my Father in Heaven less inhibitions have freed me to receive and openly commune with a loving patient understanding God.
THIS book completely changed my notion of prayer. I've talked to God during times of despair and joy, but I forget the beauty of talking to God in the day to day. Paul Miller reframes prayer as conversational, intimate, and a form of meditation. It's meant for those mundane moments just as much as it is for times of high-stress. His stories of parenting his disabled daughter Kim were so touching; I loved learning about how God created Kim, her quirks and all. Her childlike innocence is the kind of heart posture we need to have with God, our Heavenly Father. I like to act like I have everything together, even when I'm talking to my Creator. That's the irony: the more I masque myself in my relationship with God (ahem like Adam and Eve in Eden), the less I get out of that relationship. Miller is like a Bob Goff. He's the kind of Christian who really "gets it" and acknowledges the underlying mental health issues congregants come to church with. Prayer is a chance to champion vulnerability, to connect with others, to tell your story, to witness God in action in our lives. Prayer is always available to us; God is a private confidante eagerly waiting to chat. We don't have to change or conceal any part of ourselves in prayer. The more we pray, the more we evolve into who God made us to be.
Loved Paul’s wisdom and guidance on the praying life. Great practical application tips on how to become aware of the story God is weaving in your life. Ans how to make prayer time not so overwhelming
