Descent is the 6th installment of The Four Horsemen series.

It was an okay kind of book, not my favorite though. Vee and the guys are still dealing with some type of drama. I'm hoping that they will all find happiness in the next book. However, this book was just meh. I feel like I liked some things and disliked a whole bunch.

I don't know if it's just me or what.. but what was with Syv in this book? I feel like she had zero purpose in this one.. and idk, something else was just wrong with this book. We are so close to the end of this series and I have no idea why I was so annoyed with this book. Ugh, it made me mad.

Besides all of that, I still didn't even have a favorite in this book but I do love Xander. Even when he's being overdramatic. Then there's the ending, which definitely made me question on how the next book will go. So, of course, I'm going to dive into that ish and see where it's going to take me.

Here's to hoping that the next, and last book, will redeem this one.

The sixth of the amazing book series where the author has managed to breathe new life into this very old biblical legend of the four Horsemen. If you haven't already read the first 5 books, Legacy, Bound, Hunted, Guardians & Chaos, I would strongly recommend doing so, before moving on to this one.

***I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. The book was so great that I just had to pick up a copy on the release day***

description

Descent continues the story of Verity (Vee) the fifth Horseman (technically Horsewoman) and the four Pony Boys.

Heath aka Death
Ewan aka Pestilence
Joss aka Famine
Xander aka War

With Chaos loose the world is closer than ever to a possible apocalypse. It’s time to find out what Vee’s role is in all this, the Pony Boys’ saving grace or their Achilles heel. The Horsemen are in shock to discover that the world is threatened by a deity much greater than their combined power. The group now more than ever needs more allies and out of necessity they have to ally with beings they’d normally dispose of.

Chaos is determined to succeed and set out to test Vee and the Pony Boys. But it seems that he might be uncertain of her, now that she’s come into her full powers. Personally, I’ve had my doubts about what role Vee has been destined to play, especially considering the way she’s protected Chaos (well technically Seth), however, we finally get some answers. All signs start to point towards the same thing; the final battle is between Vee and Chaos. But the Pony Boys are looking for guarantees that Vee would survive such a showdown and so far, it’s looking bleak.

description

In the process of getting the answers we see a deeper bond between Vee and her boys, which isn’t just based on romance or sexy fun times. But it becomes clearer that their unity is very close to the famous “one for all – and all for one” musketeers.

Whilst Descent is a lot more serious Lisa manages to create some light moments too, by introducing Syv and her new sidekick. Lastly, I don’t know about anyone else but to me Seth/Chaos has quickly become the entity you hate to love, and love to hate – me, I love the cockiness and evil glee his childish personality brings.

description

I feel that this is by far the hardest book to review so far because Descent is so intense, a real nail biter that will grip you and make you turn page after page, without being able to put the book down. For me this is the worst book in the series. But that doesn’t sound right without me elaborating. I have serious issues with “middle” books. Especially the ones right before the grand finale. That’s exactly what Descent is. Whilst it in no way feels like a “filler” book it is filled with new information, but not really any answers. So, I think that’s my problem and honestly, it says more about me than it does about the book, which is why it still deserves a 5-star rating.

Full disclosure: the book contains steamy content but I think LJ Swallow manages to walk the line and keep it from being sleazy. The sex scenes are well written and suit the moments, it doesn't seem forced and the words are well chosen.

Vee and the Pony Boys return as the world edges closer to its possible destruction. It's time to find out if Vee is here to bring the apocalypse the Four Horsemen were sent to stop or here to prevent the world from being destroyed by Chaos. The Horsemen are shocked by their discovery that the world is threatened by someone greater than anyone knew existed. Now they are forced to trust outsiders and to align with enemies. As the mystery of Vee starts to be discovered and understood her role and the role of the Horsemen come into focus. Chaos is determined to reign but even as he plays his deadly games, he knows he will ultimately have to face Vee. Chaos may have underestimated Vee, he may actually be scared of her. The bond she shares with the Horsemen may be his undoing but will it be enough to save Vee and her Horsemen?

Wow! The tension in this book is unbelievable. It's truly an edge-of-your-seat, hold-your-breath kind of book. Each book builds the level of suspense, unease, worry for the Boys, Vee, and the world. I absolutely feel like we are on the edge of the apocalypse every second that I am reading. Now armed with vital information, the changed/not-so-changed Vee with even stronger bonds to the boys, and my new attachment to Syv I am doubly invested in the outcome. (I love Vee and Syv together!!) I am torn between wanting the final book immediately and not wanting the end of this fantastic series to arrive, however, I am desperate to see the outcome of the final showdown between Chaos and Truth. Destruction or Salvation!

This has to be the most hardest of all to review.
Descent is part 6, and has been the most intense, nail biting, gripping, and full out shocking instalment so far. I was completely floored countless times.

Vee and the boys are not only closer to each other, but now closer to finding out what on earth is going on. Everything has gone mad, and nobody knows what to expect next. There are now more people getting involved and trying to help out, and it's so full on you can't even stop to pee. Never mind feeding the kids.

Honestly, I know this review will not tell you anything, perhaps confuse you a little, but if you are reading this review, you probably have already read some of this series, so I'm just telling you......read on!! It's all happening! If you haven't read any of the series yet, not sure why you would be reading this review, but get yourself back to book 1 asap!

This entire series so far has so much of what I love in my otherworldly books. Intrigue, mystery, drama, action, original ideas, amazing world building, all things magical and paranormal, intense characters, stupidly hot scenes, even hotter men, and a feisty and incredibly strong leading lady. What more could you ask for? Nothing!

Legacy

"Does Seth exist in history?"
"He’s in a lot of religions. I looked him up after he revealed himself. Seth took his name from the Egyptian Chaos god, Set, although he’s much older than that. He could just have easily chosen Roman, Greek, Celt...anything."
- Ewan & Vee
You think I’m obsessed with thoughts of Hell and God? Believe me, that’s nothing compared to the obsession I have with you right now. - Joss

There are some really fantastic moments in Descent and some really meh moments. To be honest I did almost put it down a couple of times just because I couldn't keep going. There were brilliant moments, particularly with Joss. Joss has remained my fave Horseman, my fave character since the start and possessive Joss is not something we'd seen yet, it is super attractive. Seth is showing is colours more but even with the information we've got now I still can't figure out what is coming next. That unpredictability is interesting for me given that Reckoning is the last book and I'm generally fairly good at predicting the outcomes. But it is clearly all coming to a head, all the characters we have met along the way are coming back into play and bringing their strengths and weaknesses with them.

This is actually becoming a series I would recommend to those other than just polyandry and reverse harem fans. There hasn't been anything that would be overly off-putting to general romance fans. It comes across as more of a paranormal series where there just happens to a woman with multiple romance options. And her relationships with the four men are drastically different. The inclusion of the Horsemen as a plot point, especially Joss' empathy could be very appealing to the paranormal romance set. But I can see Descent being the point in the series when I could see a lot of people stopping reading. Early sections are really indecisive as to tone and characterisation. I maintain the series that there is no way it needed to be 7 books, a duology, 3 maybe but making it a 7 book series makes it very difficult to stay involved, to keep reading.

Descent is the continuation of the The Four Horsemen and Truth, aka Vee. The last book left us with quite a cliffhanger so I was more than ready for this one! Descent jumps in right where Chaos left off-The gang in Scotland and they now know who their enemy is.

Chaos isn't present much in the story. Descent sees an unlikely union between Ripley (a demon), the Collector, the Horsemen and Vee, and Logan (the Fae). None of them cares much for the others, but since Chaos is planning to destroy the world, all of them care more about the world they live in than hating each other. However, none of them trust anyone! The horsemen do work with the Collector to decode some of the necessary books. This leads us to an answer about who Vee is. It wasn't surprising, but I'm curious where Swallow will take it.

All this is a huge set up for the final book: a showdown between the Horsemen and Chaos. I can't wait! This series is phenomenal in audio. Collins and Strange are superb narrators and their accents are beautiful! I'm really loving the audio!

Counting down to the end...

The characters are coming together in preparation for battle like chess pieces on a board. Lines are drawn, and those who were thought to be strong in their defence of the Portals are scattered like ashes to the four winds. Chaos might still be playing games, but they are getting more serious and even deadlier.

However, Vee and the Four Horsemen still stand strong while Syv, The Collector, and the rest of the Alliance scrabble for clues and artefacts to unravel the secrets that have been hidden for so long.

Texts are being translated and decoded until, a shocking truth to their reason for being is revealed, and it is one that could destroy them all in a way that Chaos never could. But, whoever created Death, War, Famine, Pestilence and Truth, also created Heath, Xander, Joss, Ewan and Vee – and the human emotional bond that binds them together. Could there be a flaw in the prophesy afterall?

There are some huge developments in Descent, the sixth book in this series, and I have to admit to being gobsmacked on more than one occasion. LJ Swallow has created an entire civilisation throughout this series, and each character is a well rounded and necessary piece to the puzzle that Vee and the guys are trying to negotiate and piece together. I love it, and highly recommend it as a must-read to all aficionados of the Urban Fantasy genre. 5 Stars!

Yes, I’m using the same review over and over; my thoughts haven’t changed.

First off, eyyy, another author going by LJ; high five! *gives myself the high five*

Good start, I suppose; it could’ve been worse. The characters were decent enough, not that terrible; that may change in the future, though. I could, however, do without all the guys instantly liking the main girl, though; it made me think of Ouran High for a moment.

Another great instalment in the Four Horsemen series however I did feel that this was a bittersweet read for me as I know that this is the penultimate book and I'm not sure if I'm ready to say goodbye to Vee and the Pony Boys yet.
I did enjoy Descent. The story is really picking up the pace now, especially after the explosive finale of the last book. Descent picks right back up where Chaos finished. There are more Truths revealed and secrets uncovered, some which really had me gasping in shock and awe in what this author has created for us readers. I felt that there was more togetherness for Vee and the guys in this book, which I'm glad of as I've been wanting that through the series so am glad we're getting there now.
I really enjoyed this book, it was explosive, it was exciting and it was enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the next book, but I'm also sad it will be the end. Nevertheless the author has created an epic story here and although I felt it had a bit if a shaky start I've enjoyed it throughout. Bring on what I know will be an explosive and awesome ending.

Sigh

At this point, things are moving along with the plot. I don't know what it is, but I'm just losing interest in the story. I feel like our horsemen really know nothing. Vee certainly doesn't know anything. What is really confusing is that the horsemen don't seem to know much about their past or anything other than that they're supposed to protect the portals. However, until this book, nothing has happened with the portals. Their purpose seems to be wishy washy. Keep other supernaturals in line? Watch the portals? They have a kind of pointless purpose. Obviously, the whole plot revolves around what Vee's purpose is. We finally find out at the end of this book.

I found myself constantly distracted by other things while reading this book. That doesn't usually happen when I'm enjoying a book. I think that there's so little character or relationship growth that I'm losing emotional attachment to the characters. I find that I just want the story to end! Unfortunately, there's another book. So I guess I'll read on. Sigh

Descent is book six in The Four Horsemen series. We find some surprises, some scenes that had my heart racing, and tension is high. I have found that as the series progresses so does the building of suspense, the what the heck is going on, and bond between the main characters. I have to say that so far Descent is my favorite of the series, because of all the tension and non stop, edge of your seat world fixing to end action. Vee is stronger than ever with her men, their bond is growing. Really enjoying Syv and Vee together. Overall Descent is an excellent addition to the Horsemen series, and I would definitely recommend this series. I would advise reading in order. Also I am both sad and excited for Reckoning, because I need to find out what happens next, but it will be the end of the series.

An intense read!

Will Vee bring the apocalypse the Four Horsemen were sent to stop...
Or is she here to prevent a world destroyed by chaos?

I. Am. Finished. After. This. Book. Destroyed. Holy hell! What did I just read! I can't even...I don't even know what to think or feel. I...I don't know what to say. All I can say is to the author: excellent job!

That revelation. That bomb that was dropped. Oh. My. Word. The tension. The truth. All comes to an intense, explosive reveal which makes the finale highly anticipating!

Full of Horsemen/woman, gods, chaos, fae, demons, tension, Truth, revelations, action and love.

Perfect for readers of urban fantasy reverse harem romances/paranormal romances.

Descent is the 6th book in the Horsemen series and I’m wailing because the series will soon be over. I absolutely love Vee and her men. I am so wrapped up in the world Ms. Swallow has invented. When I’m reading her books, reality goes away and I am fully immersed in her “Horsemen” world.
We finally find out Chaos’ true intentions and what he wants from Vee. We also find out more about who Vee is and who sent her, although a lot of questions still remain. To defeat Chaos, Vee and the guys have to decide whether to work with demons; a kind of best of the worst scenario.
Plus, now that Seth is out of their heads, Vee and the guys are more in sync and have some tender moments, but they still have a lot of heartache.

OMG! My heart cannot take the excitement! Things are really hotting up for Vee and the Pony Boys. You can feel the love between them all stronger then ever, their relationships entwine even more

We are on the way to the end of the series and the excitement and danger is growing building anticipation. We learn a lot in this book and I am so incredibly excited for the showdown between great of and evil, between chaos and truth. This book had me on the edge of my seat, glued to them page and squealing in excitement. I am looking forward to the last book with trepidation (I do not want this to end) and excitement that has built throughout the series, I absolutely loved this book

This part of the series shows our MC and her guys dealing with some revelations and searching for answers to help handle what is to come their way. This book has a bit of action and of course steam but most of it is dealing with figuring out what they need to do in order to prepare for what is next. It was nice to see more of Syv in the mix and Vee definitely needed a bit of girl time! I am definitely interested to see how all parties are going to handle everything to come, which allies will be helpful, which allies may not be so helpful, and how Vee and her guys get through dealing with Chaos. I am still very much a fan of this series and excited even more so for the final book!

Descent is the 6th book in this series and I enjoyed it more than the last couple of installments. I liked the flow of the events in this book, and was grateful for the romantic elements to break up the heavier mythology of the ongoing urban fantasy mystery. I find The Collector to be an intriguing secondary character and though I wasn't feeling Syv from her previous appearances, I definitely saw some potential in stories that would feature these two after reading this book. Xander continues to be my favorite hero, though I'm glad we don't really have to choose! There wasn't a brutal cliffhanger like in previous books, and I am looking forward to the finale.

After the last book left everything hanging, this book is a little better. Where the plot is concerned, we’re getting to the crux of the matter with who Vee is and what she’s supposed to be doing. And while she and the guys are trying to comes to terms with it, Vee is also trying to come to terms with what the new developments mean for her relationships with all of the guys. It’s one of the ways I don’t envy Vee - working on one relationship is hard for most people. She’s got it four times harder! Meanwhile, all of this character development is going on while the plot doesn’t let up. It keeps you on your toes, and you end up nearly as exhausted as the characters. Brilliant read.

Oh WOW!!! I was pulled in from the beginning! Fabulous paranormal/fantasy world, I absolutely love this series of books, the action starts slowly and builds, The characters are well defined early on and blossom throughout the series, you can feel the tension building between the main characters early in the series which develop wonderfully as each book progresses. Very well written storey. There are no cliff hangers as such but each book always leaves you wanting more so be warned though once you start reading this series you won’t be able to put the books down so be prepared for some binge reading.

Like all the books in this series this is a great continuation of the story about Vee and her guys! In this book we see them get so much closer but this book is really building to the conclusion of this series! Not only do we have a book with action there is also so much emotion between them all. I can’t talk too much about the book as I don’t want to spoil it...but I love how Lisa as given Vee some girl time in this book and I can’t wait to see more of Syv in future books! I can’t wait for the next book and see how this story finished off and how Vee and her guys end up!!

Brilliant series

I devoured the rest of the series over a couple of days and had to wait a week to read this one, which I've practically read in one sitting it's that good.
I absolutely adore the characters in these books, the author Lisa is a wizard with words as she makes you feel everything that's going on in the story just like magic. She is a fabulous story teller, and I think anyone who reads this will be put under the 5 horseman's spell as well!!
I can not recommend the horse man series highly enough.

Wow!! This book is filled with so many feels! There were happy parts, sad parts, and just crazy parts too! Now I’m even more anxious to read the last book in this series, Reckoning, when it comes out! I’m really nervous for Vee’s real role and what will truly happen to her and her four horsemen! But I’m so ready to see Vee, Ewan, Heath, Xander, and Joss take down Seth and all his chaos with him! What a bittersweet feeling coming so close to the end of this series! I truly love this series and I can’t wait for the last book to come out! A must read series!

Well that was the most heartbreaking book of the series so far! All of the feels!
Continuing on the four horsemen & Vee as they discover the enormity of the threat they're facing & discover how they are to face Chaos. There is a switch in roles when it comes to their relationships & you discover a different side of some of the men, while Vee struggles to come to terms with what she has become. Another well written book of love fear and challenge! Can't wait for the next (& final) of the four horsemen series!

Descent into the depths of uncertainty ; their home destroyed, they barely escaped with their lives, and they find out that Vee is supposed to kill Chaos but what happens next is beyond their comprehension!

Lisa had me hooked from book#1. I don't know how she does it but each book just keeps getting better than the last one. I can't wait for the next book to come out although I am sad that it will be the last one. You really need to read this series; you won't be disappointed !!

I hope the half promise that this is the end of the series. I wept and I clapped. I scared to poop out of my husband because I was clapping and crying at 4 am! Of many of the RH series, there tends to be one kind or another of hero. LJ Covers all the tropes from sweet, darling but hiding a very naughty side Joss to ever brooding Ewan to one temper tantrum to needing his own spanking War and Heath, who is sort of all of them put together. I hope we have more adventures and that we find out who they were before they became horsemen

Wonderful series!

An amazing roller coaster of emotions and adventure! I’ve really enjoyed the evolution of these characters and their relationship we the main female heroine. I look forward to seeing how their Love transcends the Gods and possibly the apocalypse! I love this steamy action packed adventure! I highly recommend this book to any and all open minded person who wouldn’t mind a reverse harem .

Vee and the Pony Boys are in for an adventure, between trying to find a stone, figuring out what the book says and staying alive, they have their hands full! Chaos is reigns in this book. Heartbreak abounds and more mystery awaits, Syv tries her best to help along with a very adorable and strange pet ! This is another great book in the series, be prepared to cry and be angry ! This series cannot end, it is too good! LJ keeps impressing me with the twists and turns she includes in her Four Horsemen series. I am nervous about the last book coming out, bittersweet to say the least 😭.

We get more answers in Book 6 of the series, but left wanting to know more/on the edge of our seat for how LJ is going to tie up this story. I had a clear favorite almost this entire series but another one is giving him a run for his money. I highly recommend this series, pick it up now!

Wow!

I couldn't wait for this book to be available. It was worth the wait. I just picked up where it was left from the last book. I loved how it just came togeher in one place. I felt the best part of the book was the unexpected help of the hell hound being a great help to the horsemen and Vee. I can't wait to see how they take down Seth as Chaos and find out will Vee be destroyed along with Chaos as it's been foretold in the prophesy that the Collector read for them.

I really love this series. Vee and the guys are great. We've watched all of their relationships grow and the mystery behind their origins get even bigger. I don't want to say much because don't want to spoil this book but it was amazing. I don't know how I'm going to be able to wait for the next book.
