You've seen right. This book is worth three stars. You ask what happened to 'DIS GON BE GUD?' (see below:the end of the review). I'll say you what happened: After waiting a whole year for the sequel, I'm so frigging upset that the hype didnt deliver. THAT'S HAPPENED.

So abandon the hype train my friend and delete all of your hopes just like I did after 70%.

Bishop is a saint. And he deserves a cookie. And a golden medal. Actually, whomever deals with this bipolar chick called Ivy deserves an award. And to think I loved her in the first book. What happened to her?

The whole book I wanted to shake her and yell; FOR FUCKS SAKE IVY, GET IT TOGETHER!! Your family didnt come for you? BO-HOO. Bishop did (Not really a spoiler. Come on. This is YA. You should be guessing this stuff). Why the fuck are you punishing him for their shit?! Makes no sense.

PLOT:
“No one survives beyond the fence. At least that's what my father always told me when I was a child. But I'm not a little girl anymore, and I no longer believe in the words of my father. He told me the Lattimers were cruel and deserved to die. He told me my only choice was to kill the boy I loved. He has been wrong about so many things. And I'm determined that he's going to be wrong about my survival as well.”
Welcome to the Ivy's beyond the fence life. She had her moments, specially in the beginning I'll give her that; she found herself in beyond the fence and it started to transform her but most of the time she was just a depressed and moody chick. So guess how boring it was to read all that shit? HA. I'm all for the feelings and feels but man, did those moments drag! Ivy made a huge deal of...nothing and wasted too much pages before sorting out what she feels and why she feels that way.

Action does start to happen (START.TO.HAPPEN.UGH.) but it takes too much time to get there so once it happens it makes you feel the whole book except that action part was filled with filler moments. Hey, if you have no problem with 'Oh, let's not talk about our feelings, keep secrets, think how wortheless we are and how we were abandoned but who gives a shit about talking, ignore Bishop because he...came for me when my family didnt?' moments and think they are not filler YAY you're gonna love this one. Me and the rest of the world want some fucking AC-TION ok?

ROMANCE:
“Are most people this lucky? To find someone who really understands them? Someone who accepts all their strange and foreign ways of looking at and approaching the world without constantly trying to change them into someone more like themselves? Letting me be Ivy, when so many others have tried to mold me into a different kind of girl, is the most valuable gift Bishop will ever give me..”

Aww Bishop. Too bad Ivy spend most of the book whining and bitching and acting hot-and-cold towards you.

CALLIE;

NEW CHARACTERS;

Besides Bishop, definitely the best part of the book.

ENDING:
It was okay. I guess. It did wrapped everything up but I felt like it was almost too nice and easy and shiny.

SOME OTHER THOUGHTS:

Be aware:This series isnt for everyone. First thing first; the pacing is really slow. Character develelopment for the lead character and her love interest is great but everyone else, specially villians are one dimensional and cause cringe-worthy moments. Romance is great...when the main character and her sister (cant stand that bitch) dont open their mouth...or think. World-building is great but it's pretty much centered to where the main character lives instead of being global. No revolution or uprising. No Katniss figure here. No world-shaking events or ending.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Welcome to the...

Hey, I wanted to like this one ok? I fucking created a hype planet for it. I'm the queen of that planet. It's not my fault the book was 'okay'.

I want to know what's world like beyond the fence. I want to see Bishop again. I want Callie to burn. I want Bishop to go beyond the fence to look for Ivy. I want those two to end up together. I WANT THIS BOOK NOW.

One thing for sure;

FANGIRLING MODE ACTIVATED!!!!
BISHOP!!!! OMG!!!! :D

Woow! What an amazing finale! From the begining to the end I loved it. I loved it because, finally Ivy found herself. She became such a strong girl. :) Bishop was amazing too, as always he did what he believed. And he always listened his heart as well... :)

I don’t want to give you spoilers but trust me, you’ll never regret for reading this books. You just have to meet Bishop one last time. And after that you're gonna miss him so much. I know it because I will miss him. :)

Farewell Bishop. Pls go and find the ocean with IVY!!!
Ps. Well, maybe they found the ocean or they're not. I won't tell you the truth. So go and read it. :)

(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis. Thanks to Entangled Publishing, LLC and NetGalley.)

“My father, in all his endless lessons, never spared a single second talking to me about how to survive beyond the fence. He never taught me how to start a fire or catch a small animal. I suppose he never considered the possibility that all his planning might come to nothing, that we might be caught, that he might need to give me some kind of alternative training.”

This was a really good sequel, and I was pleased with the way things turned out!

Ivy was really strong in this book, and she really fought for what was important to her. I thought she did well to survive the way she did, and became a strong role model later on in the book.

The storyline in this was really good, with Ivy’s fight to survive in the wild, and the way she eventually found other people and also found someone who she thought she had lost. I liked the action, and the unexpected deaths as well!
There was some romance in this, and it was pretty good! I won’t say anything else though.

"That's what love is, though, isn't it? You don't stop loving someone just because they disappoint you."

The ending to this was satisfying, and I was pleased with the way things played out.

For every trial there has been an answering blessing, for every loss, something gained.

**Actual rating: 3.5/5 Being-Yourself Stars**

Again, apart from the gorgeous cover I can't stop tearing my eyes away from whenever I see it, the story picked up shortly after the ending of The Book of Ivy and brought us into Ivy's long journey of survival beyond the fence.
"Nobody can make it out here alone, Ivy."

At first I was like, Oh! Okay, so no one will be able to survive out there once they're put out for certain crimes or treasonable reasons. So Ivy's dead for sure. But the key word here is "alone"; thus, she'd found a small group of supportive people outside the fence and teamed up with two of them. Meet Caleb and Ash. Caleb was indifferent to Ivy in the beginning when Ash insisted on saving her. Nevertheless, with more secrets Ivy revealed, he started to deem her as a member of his handful family. Ash was an amazing female secondary character in this story; she played an essential part here and gave Ivy a great deal of thoughtful advice when Ivy was stuck inside her own head.
"Bishop must love you a lot," Ash says finally. "Coming out here to find you."
"Yes." It takes me a second to continue. "I think he did."
Ash shakes her head. "Not did, Ivy. Does."
"I don't know why he would," I say, voice quiet. "I've hurt him. Over and over again."
Ash's face softens, her eyes warm. "That's what love is, though, isn't it? You don't stop loving someone just because they disappoint you."

What I really, really loved most in this installment is the fact that Ivy grew A LOT and became so, so, so much more mature. Like most people said, she was no longer that indecisive, capricious girl we knew in the first book. The realization of "Unity is power." along with all the teamwork and the slight touch of family shaped her into a tough, strong, fearless, and honest girl.
Life beyond the fence is transforming me. Not into a new person, but back into the girl I've always been underneath all the layers my father and Callie built on top of me. Slowly, I am finding myself.
I am becoming Ivy again.

After the unexpected reappearance of Bishop Lattimer, he sort of wrecked serious havoc to Ivy. We can see that she'd been trying really hard just to get him out of her mind and only focus on surviving outside the fence. But the moment he showed up right in front of her, she suddenly lost her balance in life and it took awhile in this book until she eventually opened up to him. That's also another reason I appreciated the story quite much.
I don't understand how the pain of losing him can be a pale shadow in comparison to the pain of finding him again.

Wow, simply reminiscing the span her personality had improved still impressed me so much. She turned into an admirable female role and definitely earned a memorable place in my heart.
And I understand in a way I never have before that loving someone is always going to feel like flying--the unthinkable drop, the fear of falling, the heart-in-your-throat thrill.

A review cannot complete without talking about the heart-wrenchingly beautiful romance between our favorite mcs, Bishop & Ivy! Both of them had become someone much more compassionate and that led to a peaceful achievement for the Westfall city. I can't say I'm 100% satisfied with the outcome, but I did believe there's no better solution than what'd been done. So deal with it!
"I love you," he says quietly. I want to take his words, the truth of them I can see on his face, and cup them in my hands like a glowing coal from the fire. Keep them with me warm and bright, a talisman.

Ahh!!!!!There are so much more I want to savor and their love story is honestly bittersweet. Even though most of the events sound pretty cheesy and cliche (like the previous one), I surprisingly didn't feel that way under Ivy & Bishop's condition. They were perfect for each other and you know, no revolution would succeed without sacrifices ; all they gave up, fought for, clung to were for something else much more valuable--love--so I didn't regret their choices at all.

Again, I recommend this duology to everyone in that it's a short but intense, full of action story and NOT A SINGLE page paragraph will make you feel bored. I practically finished this in a sitting and that's a rare case for me. Though I still feel there's something missing from the plot but I can't exactly name it. It's like there's a hole in my heart that needs to be filled up with more twists and turns. Well, the ending is already perfectly wrapped up so I think there's nothing to find fault. As for the imperfection I mentioned, I guess the author wanted to leave something to our imagination. :)

After the devastating end of The Book of Ivy I didn’t think I would survive The Revolution of Ivy. I mean, I obviously wanted to read it but my god- Angel knows how to make a girl lose all hope and leave you a mess with just a few sentences. In order to remain a little of my dignity I decided to be cautious, refusing to be pulled back in and left heartbroken; I was not going to get attached. I failed miserably.

Following the unexpected ending of book one, Ivy is no longer in Westfall, now she’s outside of the wall; banished from safety, left to fend for herself in a cruel waste land with no food, water and no way to survive. The first part of the book follows Ivy in her attempt to survive the unforgiving strange land, it’s here where we meet new characters Caleb and Ash. Together they show Ivy the way of the land, how to hunt, how to defend herself and how to survive. What I loved most about this part of the book is that while I was desperate for the long overdue reunion of Ivy and Bishop, is that it wasn’t rushed. We get to see Ivy mature and grow as a person and ultimately learning to make decisions for herself and to be her own person.

“I don’t want a girl who makes me happy,” he says. “I want you.”

Then I finally got my reunion with Bishop, it was obvious that they were going to be reunited but the ‘way’ they were introduced was so shocking, I was not expecting it all! So let’s talk about Bishop he’s mine, he’s just as dreamy as ever, I mean he’s just perfect in every way. I didn’t think it was possible to fall in love with him all over again but he has this ability to say the right thing at the right time and whatever comes out of his mouth just slays me every damn time. Bishop was Ivy’s rock throughout the whole book, unmoving and patient through tough times and moments of heartbreak. What I loved most about Bishop in this book was his fierceness, when Ivy proceeded to close off and lie he pushed, which led to their long overdue conversation about really happened in Westfall allowing them to move on together.

The ending was bittersweet, it involved a much-needed confrontation between the Lattimer’s and the Westfall’s that was heart-breaking but ultimately the ending I wanted for the characters is exactly what I got. I couldn’t have asked for more, Engel wrote a fabulous follow up which I will continue to read over and over again. This is one series you don’t want to miss!

I’ve really enjoyed this duo! The first book was just swoon worthy and SUPER fun to read! *sigh* Bishop….

Ok if you’re looking for a clean good romance this I would recommend to anyone!

Book two is no different in wonderfulness than book one and I greatly appreciate that! We all fell in love with the story and the characters and the world building.

In this book we continue with the story after Ivy has been banished and she is out beyond the fence. Where she has nothing but the clothes on her back to survive. Her whole life she’s been brought up to fear what’s beyond and now…she’s beyond everything and everyone she’s ever known and loved.

This was good because I enjoyed the fact that it was brutal and very real. I really enjoyed the dangers and reality of what she faced. Nothing came that easy and I appreciated that.

I absolutely am grateful for a wonderful author and writer who can write a male character that is GOOD! Bishop in all his glory is not perfect but dang it, he is close to it and I just loved him. From the first book through the second he remained a gentleman, kind, sweet, thoughtful and just all around GOOD! Too many of these YA books have toxic male or female love interest and it horrible!

I enjoyed Ivy and her character development. Throughout both books we see her constantly struggle with who she is and who she wants to be while battling everything that she was taught against everything that is in front of her. She was just super fun and great to read.

Overall this book is fabulous and I am so grateful to EntangledTeen for reaching out to me to read and review this book! Seriously AWESOME!

Sexual Content: moderate (attempted rape, some kissing)
Violence: moderate (fighting scenes from attempted rape, fighting scenes and killing)

Si pour moi, le livre aurait mérité d'être plus équilibré dans l'action, c'était une belle conclusion.

*Spoilers for book 1 (The Book of Ivy) in the series.*

--------------------------------

I wasn't sure WHAT to expect after The Book of Ivy ended with our poor Ivy exiled to outside the fence. I was 1) terrified of the gross and awful rapist guy 2) terrified of the gross and awful rapist guy. That storyline was gut-wrenching in the first book and I was 100% sure he would be back in the second book.

And the biggest selling point of book 1 for me was the romance and we start Revolution with our love interests separated, so I was a tiny bit hesitant when picking up book 2. And while I was happy with how the romance played out, I thought the rest of the story was equally just as compelling.

I really liked Ivy's journey in Revolution because I felt like she grew up a lot and learned about herself and I think she needed to be away from Bishop to do that. Not because of Bishop but because was only 16 when they got married and she needed time to be independent from her family AND Bishop -- otherwise reuniting them would have felt cheated to me and I wouldn't have been as excited.

Ultimately I really enjoyed The Revolution of Ivy and I think it was a great sequel to The Book of Ivy. I think I enjoyed it the slightest bit less than the first book, but it was still a fantastic book I recommend everyone read!

I wish I had a better review to write for this book because I adored the first book in this series, but The Revolution of Ivy--although not a complete disappointment--lacked in so many ways.

The Revolution of Ivy opens up where The Book of Ivy left off: with Ivy being cast out of the fence to fend for herself. And it ain't pretty folks. Beyond the safety of the gated town of Westfall lies desolate terrain, extreme weather conditions, wild predators, and other exiled criminals that are right up there with untamed beasts on the danger scale. And she encounters and survives them all (duh; not a spoiler) and learns that there's a whole new world (cue Aladdin's theme song :D) out there that is waiting for her to uncover.

My problem with the beginning is that the author does a terrible job at debriefing the reader on past events in book 1. I don't need a full on summary, but a refresher would be nice. It hasn't been that long since I read the first book, but I still found it hard to remember and keep up with all that was going on when Ivy would briefly and often reference (and not elaborate on) something that happened in the past. It was confusing and I was lost. But an even bigger issue for me was how slow the book started and... well, how slowly it crept on. At 290 pages this isn't a long book, so I wouldn't expect it to drag. Yetttttt... it did exactly that. Maybe that's because there was such a lack of plot in the first 200 pages or so. I know! Disappointing, right?! And there's a HUGGEEE amount of plot convenience happening as well which made the book predictable from start to finish.

Really this was such a light and unexpectedly fluffy read for me (don't be fooled by the gritty beginning) with a lot of melodrama and a minuscule amount of excitement to carry it along. This wasn't the brilliant ending I was hoping for this duology, but I'm not completely unsatisfied either. But that's mostly because of Bishop. (yep, that's my book boyfriend! *wink*)

4.5 SOLID STARS

Wonderfully crafted and brilliantly concocted, THE REVOLUTION OF IVY takes us through a world of emotions, while keeping us at bay with the swoon-worthy romance and shocking revelations, this duology will have your head spinning by the time your finished!!

I AM SOOOOOO HAPPY I READ THIS DUOLOGY! I can't imagine missing all the awesomeness in THE BOOK OF IVY DUOLOGY!! This duology is a gem that I think any dystopian/romance fan should read. Especially if you want something slightly different and unique then the norm, with a spine-tingling romance that is sure to swoon even the most unswoony people...LOL!! ;)

I'm sadden to be saying goodbye to this world and the wonderful characters Engel's created. I will always have a special place in the depths of my heart for Ivy and Bishop, and all that they've overcome! I'm looking forward to what Engel will come up with next, because I will most DEFINITELY be reading whatever she creates!!

THE REVOLUTION OF IVY was a fantastic conclusion that took my breath away, and was everything I hoped it would be! I'm stunned at the raw and deepened emotions Engel stirs within this duology. For a dystopian, this duology manages to rage wars within myself, bringing emotions rushing to surface, demanding to bust free in a dark, satisfying kinda way.

Okay, now can we talk about one of my most favorite book-boyfriends of all time?!?!?!?!

~~~~BISHOP LATTIMER~~~~
He. . . is. . . such. . . a. . . HOTTIE! My love for Bishop runs deep since the first book when he was such a good boy; sweet, caring, loyal, and can set a girl on fire with just one word (and look ;). Yet when provoked or someone he cares for is threatened, he becomes dangerous and deadly, and is not a force to be reckoned with. I LOVED IT!! He's enough to set my world ablaze! ;)
Only two issues I can think of were minor, and was the only reason I gave this book four and a half stars instead of the five I really wanted to give it. The first issue was the pacing and plot. Most of the book was non-action or adventure, yet I still didn't really find that a big issue like I normally would. And even though their wasn't anything thrilling or heart-pounding going on for most of the book, it still felt complete, like it fit well with the setting and tone Engel created for us. That being said, I still think I would of liked it that much more if their would of been more action and adventure then what we got. Though I do have to admit the last quarter or so was thrilling and tons of fun. Filled with bitter deceptions, ultimate betrayals, fast-paced action, thrilling adventure, unwavering loyalties, uncovered secrets, and old wounds rehashed, while the most intimate love strives to survive! YES, that was all in the last quarter. So regardless of the hardly non-existent action and adventure in the first part of the book, the last part had more then I could of hoped for!
My only other issue was with Ivy. Now before you start speculating that I didn't like her, let me tell you this: I LOVED IVY TO PIECES! She's fierce, honorable, dedicated, caring, and goes above and beyond to do the right thing for the ones she loves. Even if it means turning others she loves against her, she'll do it. And I really respected that about Ivy. No matter how hard or bad the outcome will be, she'll do what needs to be done, regardless of the situation or loss to herself. She's also pushed to the breaking point in this conclusion, and we finally get to see just what she's truly capable of when pushed to that limit. And I loved her inner strength and devotion she had for Bishop.
But back to what really drove me crazy about Ivy. It was the way she treated Bishop when they first reunited after Ivy's ultimate betrayal from book one. Ivy was determined to push Bishop away after everything he didn't to get back to her after SHE betrayed him. It seemed like she was blaming him for everything that happened in Westfall, when in all actuality it was she who destroyed everything, not the other way around. She was distant and short with him, telling him she wanted him to stay, yet keeping him at an uncomfortable distance with her mean words and even harsher actions. Their were moments when I wanted to slap Ivy and say girl wake up before you lose your second chance. I mean on one hand I kinda understood why she was pushing him away, but she was doing it all the wrong way. But on the other, I couldn't fathom why she was being so mean and hurtful to the one she loved. But luckily all that drama didn't last long, and Ivy and Bishop were back to their old, sweet, determined way about them that I just loved!
THE PLOT:
After refusing to murder the only man she's ever loved, Ivy Westfall is condemned and forced out in exile to fend for herself. Living with a vindictive family all her life, Ivy knows firsthand the full wrath revenge can rage. And being center stage in her families conspiracy against the man she loved, Ivy refuses to be apart of it anymore. Sacrificing her heart for Bishop's life, Ivy must put it all behind her if she's to survive the woods beyond the fence, where nothing is certain, and dehydration and starvation, along with rape and murder are more sure then food in your belly. But that's the life Ivy chose when she saved Bishop's life, and now she's paying the price with her heart . . .
But the world beyond the fence is nothing like Ivy thought it would be. Yeah, their is danger and risk, but theirs also freedom, freedom to be who she really is, freedom to live the way she chooses. But after a near run in with death, Ivy isn't sure she can make it out here on her own. But then she's nursed back to health by two unlikely allies who will become more like family then her own blood has ever been. And then she finally starts to see a real future for herself beyond the fence, that is until Bishop, the love she's vowed to forget shows up and stirs feelings within her that she thought were hidden forever. . .
Bishop's abrupt arrival changes everything Ivy's worked for. She's survived with this new group only by telling them what they wanted to hear, and with the president of Westfall's son showing up raising questions she doesn't want answered, she's forced to face the horrifying truths of her past, or risk everything she loves, again...
The lies she's told force to be exposed, the friends she's made threaten to unravel, the home she's lost begins to perish, and the heart she's kept hidden starts to feel. But if Ivy doesn't do something soon, she may just lose everything she's gained beyond the fence, including the heart that's just begun to beat, again...
But when disturbing stories of Westfall's chaos and destruction reaches their camp, and the horrifying news that her family may be behind all the ruckus, Ivy must make the hard decision if returning to Westfall and saving the very people who betrayed her is worth risking the sweet freedom with the man she loves to be worth it. Or if she should just leave them all to their fates, like they did with her...
THE REVOLUTION OF IVY was just fantastic in just about every way that counts. I'm fiercely devoted to Amy Engel and will most definitely read anything else she writes in the future. She has the gift for creating the most addicting worlds with complex relationships that can set your soul on fire! If that isn't a bookish gift, then I don't know what is!!
Overall, THE REVOLUTION OF IVY was great ending to this wonderful series. I fell deeply in love with these characters and complex world in book one, but book two takes this world to a whole new level, and really gets to the nitty gritty of it all. It shows us the true horrors and joys of loving someone, and what a person can truly be capable of when faced with a split second decision that could take everything you love away from you. And the full depths of a human heart, regardless of the deception or betrayals, or any misjudgments, and just how deep love really runs, when it's real and pure, and destine to survive! That's the love that Ivy and Bishop had, and I couldn't get enough of it! So if you want a different-kinda dystopian, set in a world that thrives on power and betrayals, and an utterly heart-wrenching romance that will set your heart on fire, then DEFINITELY give THE BOOK OF IVY series it's fair shot, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!!!
NOTE: I received a physical ARC from Entangled Teen for reviewing purposes! All opinions expressed are my own and are not influenced in any way!
GOODBYE FOR NOW, BUT NOT FOREVER, IVY & BISHOP, YOU WILL BE MISSED. . . ;)
*** SPOILERS FOR THE BOOK OF IVY***
The Revolution of Ivy was such an entertaining Dystopian that I quickly devoured! I enjoyed where the story went and how everything was fabulously wrapped up! But while I was flipping through the pages, I desperately wanted Bishop back in the picture. And I wanted even more for Ivy and him to get their happily ever after. But I definitely questioned whether that was a possibility. Not because Bishop didn't come back, since we're told in the synopsis that he does, but because I was unsure whether Ivy could get her shit together so they could unite as one. Ivy was definitely my biggest struggle in this book. But everything else, eeks, it was so much fun!
Too weak and too angry. I hold my good arm out from my side, beckoning into the hot, still air. “Come on,” I yell. “You want me? Come and get me.”
Ivy was thrown out. Bishop thought she was trying to murder him, and her family let her take the fall. She was truly all alone. The situations Ivy found herself in, right after she was thrown outside of the fence, oh my gosh, I was panicky for her. I kept thinking, okay, that's enough for now. And then bam , something else would knock Ivy's world off kilter and I questioned whether she could survive what was happening to her. Ivy proved that she was tough as nails. Her endurance and need to survive was impressive!
I know now that I can survive out here. The question is whether I have the strength to really live.
Ohhh survival. It's such a hard subject, since not everything is black and white. I really, really struggled with some of Ivy's choices. She did what she had to do to survive. Or at least what she believed she had to do to survive. And oh man, that was such a hard pill to swallow at times. I definitely got angry with Ivy, actually livid is a better choice of word. I wanted to make her reconsider some of the choices she made. And while she did come around, it took longer than I wish it did.
Bishop’s jaw tightens, but he only sounds incredibly tired when he says, “I just want to be with you. Walk next to you, Ivy, wherever you’re headed. That’s all.”
Let me say, I was so ecstatic when Bishop came back. His faith and devotion to Ivy was beautiful. His understanding of how she worked and what she needed was breathtaking. Bishop was everything that was good in their world. Yes he made mistakes, yes he suffered from some of his decisions, but his heart was so pure and in such the right place. But, I have no clue how he tolerated Ivy during the time that she treated him like garbage. She was horrid to him, and there was Bishop, waiting for Ivy to come around and love him. I found myself mad at Ivy again, for how she treated Bishop. And I don't want to go into all of the details, cause spoilers, but just know that because of a past boyfriend, I got Ivy. I understood the way she was. And I was able to forgive her because of that understanding. But I don't know if everyone else will be as understanding to Ivy as I was.
My voice already sounds more my own. Stronger. I point to the knife in Ash’s hand. “I need one of those. And lessons on how to use it.”
Not everything was all doom and gloom in Ivy's new life or her attitude (haha) because she met two characters I absolutely loved, Caleb and Ash. I liked them the moment I met them, even if Caleb was being a grumpy the first time we met him. What developed between the three of them was so natural and it made me love every single scene that Caleb and Ash were in. They added so much depth to the story!
I can live with blood on my hands.
So if you're looking for a quick, fun dystopian to pick up, you may want to give this one a try! The story itself was entertaining and that last quarter of the book was so fast paced, I loved it! It made me even have tears in my eyes and I felt a plethora of emotions in my heart. Oh, that ending was perfect! But just realize that you may need to work on your patience with Ivy, even though she does grow throughout the story. It just takes a while. Or a little longer than a while. But ultimately you'll get to meet Bishop, sigh. And he is definitely someone you will want to meet!
4.5*
This was just, eurgh, I loved it. I absolutely loved it. It's not often that a sequel is just as gripping as the first book but Amy Engel managed it perfectly with The Revolution of Ivy. This was just as heart pounding, intense and page turning as book one. I adored the character development throughout the book, especially in regards to Ivy and he different relationships she allowed herself to develop. The friendships were wonderful and the romance in this duology has quickly become a new all time favourite. I sped through this duology as though my life depended it and I couldn't recommend it more highly. I can't wait to read more from Amy Engel and her ridiculously additive writing in the future. If you're looking for an action packed page turner with a wonderful romance, I'd highly recommend this duology. I loved each and every page!
Now THIS is how you end a duology. I've finally discovered a dystopia without the usual tropes and annoyances. Whenever I read Amy's books I feel like I'm catapulted into that world, I'm fully immeshed in everything that's going on, and it's bliss. The characters are so strong and likable, the romance is amazing, the plot is fast-moving and plot twist-y. I love this series so so much!! Book 2 brought a satisfying conclusion and a wonderful end.
5+++ STARS!! Loved it!!
"…no revolutions are won without sacrifices… I've lost so much, but I've gained something, too. Life beyond the fence is transforming me. Not into a new person, but back into the girl I've always been underneath all the layers… built on top of me. Slowly, I am finding myself. I am becoming Ivy again."
taken from an uncorrected proof...
Amazing conclusion to The Book of Ivy!! I knew Amy Engel was going to deliver an explosive ending to this series with her second and final installment The Revolution of Ivy. Her skillful storytelling had the characters flying off the page making this feel so real and exciting.
The Revolution of Ivy takes place right where the first installment left off. Ivy Westfall finds herself exiled beyond the fences of her secure town. Unceasing danger, hunger and thirst are becoming her constant companion until she stumbles upon Ash and Caleb who accept her into their community and teach her how to survive beyond the fence.
When Bishop Lattimer reappears in Ivy’s life, she’s forced to face the lies and secrets she kept from him back in Westfall. As Bishop begins to break down Ivy’s walls of defense, together they finally find a way back to each other.
It’s no secret… I absolutely loved this series! Amy Engel really proved her talent with her seamless ability to pace her story and create moments of chaos, hints of security, and later explosive events that kept the momentum going with little downtime.
Ivy and Bishop have become two of my favorite fictional couples. I appreciated their struggles and how they handled the conflict in their lives. Bishop is the absolute perfect hero in my book. He was patient, unassuming, decisive and loyal all in one punch! I fell for this character HARD! Ivy was the perfect balance to his perfection. Her decisions and reactions were sometimes flawed, but never wholly off the mark, and it was nice to see Bishop helped her through her moments of struggle and conflict. I wanted so much for these two, especially for them to have a happy ending of any sort would have been greatly deserved!
Overall, at a time when it’s hard to find a powerful and meaningful YA Dystopia novel that feels realistic, The Book of Ivy proves that there are still authors out there that can remind us how enjoyable this genre can be. The Revolution of Ivy is now one of my favorite YA Dystopic books of 2015! Absolute winner here!
4.5 STARS
The sequel to The Book of Ivy was awesome. I loved it. Full of action, suspense, betrayal and second chances, it was a perfect ending and an expected one, to this wonderful dystopian story.
I loved seeing Ivy make it past the walls of Westfall, take control of her situation and become the young woman she was meant to be. I loved her and her tenacity.
Bishop...the man was amazing once again. I love how he doesn't try and save Ivy, doesn't try and be the knight, but rather takes pride in who she is and how far she's come along. I LOVE THAT. A man that makes his woman the best version of herself and not something else. Ivy and Bishop had the talk that was long overdue and it was angsty, heartbreaking and totally beautiful.
There's lots of action and interesting twists here as well and a sweet secondary cast. The ending was perfect and also bittersweet for the town of Westfall, but it couldn't have ended any other way for those people. This was a great little dystopian series and I'm glad it didn't drag out into 3 books. Things were always dealt with well and never milked for drama, loved that! 4.5 stars for a lovely series and ending.
This was a solid book, but since I loved the first one so much this one was a little disappointing. However, it was still enjoyable.
