I'm sorry to say I'm only giving the book a 2 star rating and that's a shame for me peronally as I'm a mega sherrilyn kenyon fan but the characters are lacking in any depth the story line is so Bare as to be a joke it not up to her personal best that I know she is capable of doing

I am being generous in my rating. Sherrilyn Kenyon books are on automatic buy for me but this book is nowhere near what I know she is capable of writing. The book in general is too short and the characters are not developed well. To top it off, the story line is lacking.

It’s just the first six chapters of a novel so that’s the first thing you should know. I read everything SK writes and love 99% of it. But Insurrection heads into inappropriate sexual attraction really really fast. And it’s predictable. Nothing like what I expect from SK’s books. I won’t be reading the rest.

We all know I’m absolute trash for anything Sherrilyn Kenyon writes.

So of course I loved this! This is so different from anything I’ve ever read by her (and I’ve read a lot of her stuff) this very apocalyptic/fantasy world was so new and fun to be in! I really hope a sequel comes out soon because ya girl needs answers!

The only problem I had was it was WAY to short! This book comes in at only 118 pages and I could’ve gone for a couple more hundred pages of this badass book.

I'm almost 100% positive I have been waiting for this book for around 5 years. I remember when I first heard about it on Sherrilyn Kenyon's web sight and couldn't wait for this book. I decided to pick this up because honestly I needed something different. This was just what I was looking for. I love the world that she created and it was so interesting and engaging. I loved the story and was into this book from page one. However this book is too short I really wish this book had been longer. The world was so interesting and I wished we had gotten to explore it more. This book also ends on a semi cliffhanger. Kind of but not completely a cliffhanger and I think if you do read it you will be fine. This is a series so you know going into it that this story won't be finished or complete with this book and of course it ends and your like what I want to know what happens next.

And finally this book is really expensive for how short it is. I get it SK is a very established and amazing author but $4.99 for 87 pages hurts a little. I really liked this book and thats another reason I wished it had been longer I wanted more. I have no clue what will happen next. I love the main Character Crow and Xed a side character. The lead female character I'm not sure how I feel about her. I hated her at the beginning. She was(maybe still is) very cocky, self entitled and she is very sure she and her race are right and better than everyone else. At the end of book one I don't know how I feel about her I'm not sure she has changed and I'm not sure I like her but I know I liked this book.

I’ve enjoyed every one of SK’s Dark Hunter and League books so I didn’t even think about looking into this one before automatically purchasing it. This was a huge let down. It’s way too short to be its own book because everything was too rushed. A climactic moment occurs so quickly that I didn’t have time to be invested in caring how the characters are affected by it.

The editing was terrible as well. At first I thought it was part of the idea that humans forgot how to talk correctly or that the Matans (is that right? I already forgot and I read this yesterday) didn’t know how to speak the human language. However, by half way through I realized that it’s just poorly edited! It’s a very short book and then it’s badly written? Not at all what I expect from SK. Honestly, I wonder if she has a ghost writer at the rate she dishes out books.

I really don’t think I care enough to continue this series. Such a shame because I thought the premise had potential.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is a solid writer, of that there is no doubt at all. Her new series of Insurrection seems to be replacing the series the Chronicles of Nick which has now merged with the Dark Hunters.

This is the first book in the series and I quite enjoyed it though I felt like more backstory on the drabs would have been great. Perhaps we will get that later on.

Waiting for the next installment before I decide if this is a must read or not.

I did need to get used to the story for a bit. Some sort of aliens seem to have invested the earth, killing nearly all humans by bringing a virus. Jesiah/Joey is the leader of this rebellion. I was very confused about Man, that was so confusing. I really enjoyed Daria's perspective, since it showed how she lived as the alien thingy, and how scared she was of humans. It was odd to see how she though of humans, and felt as though it was normal that they took our planet. I loved seeing her character development, I wish we'd learn more about that!

Jesiah was honestly pretty cool. I mean, The romance between him and Daria seemed kind of forced, however. I got whiplash for sure. Their fight was also insanely unnecessary, but I can't help but want to know where it'll go from here.

I'm still a bit confused about the worldbuilding, and the difference between Drabs and Remnants. The story could've definitely been more extensive, so the plot building would've been better!

Weirdly enough, I really want to know where the story will go from here. Is the next one coming soon?

DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK
I bought this book for $6.56 (AUD) and I LOVED IT right up until the end of chapter 6 when I realised it wasn't a full book and paid for the sample chapters. REALLY mad that this isn't even a finished book. What the heck even?! I really loved the concept and the story and the beginning but really I feel like I paid for sample chapters and I'm severely disappointed by this. Bloody better get sent an ebook update when the full book is finished. Will Kenyon even finish this one? Honestly, I love her work and have read everything I can but this is a massive let down.

I'm sure if I ever read the completed version of this book it would get a heck a lot more stars in my rating...

It's new, I like new things its exciting.
It's a novella so its suppose to be short
The thing I'm questioning is tho... wats up with home girl and her sexual hunger? Lol and alien or not an asshole is an asshole chick. An asshole crush cant caress my cheek and expect me to bend to his will when I have a sexy peice of primal male who obviously wants a peice (srry I love primal males)
But yes this... is she a main chick?? Cause i have a feeling shes gonna be the Arnold wat they call them gonna be. I get it's an intro to the series I'm fine with that but... that girl.. I dont dislike her but I'm not even feeling her either, her intro leaves me really not caring about her but shes obviously going to be someone important.

Insurrection is the first book in the Nevermore series. This should not be read as a standalone. There is violence. Be aware that this is a short story (not normal for this author). So the characters and the storyline are not as well developed as you would expect from her. The storyline is different from her usual but is still interesting. I am looking forward to reading the next book to see what else happens.

Normally I love books by SK no matter how long or short the book is, but this one left me cold and turned me off. Maybe it was the storyline or just all the plain vitriol being spewed by Crow. For me, I have read brand new writers come up with better plots than this one has. Just maybe SK should stick with her Dark and her Were Hunters. JMO

This was a hard one to score. It was especially painful because Kenyon is my favorite author. But this book is just not up to her normal writings. Not only is it a lot shorter, a good forth of the size is made up of previews, a couple of full-page illustrations, and large margins, but there were typos, distracting and disjointed internal monologues, and not enough world building. It felt more like what I would expect for a first or second draft. Maybe one or two more rewrites would have been helpful. There were confusing bits, no foreshadowing anywhere, and parts that made me go "what the hell?" and not in a good way. There were things which needed explaining so I could understand what was going on. There seemed to be entire scenes missing. There were almost no descriptions. All the characters seemed to be just floating in space because I had no idea where they were.

I'm pretty sure that one of the characters changed his name a few times. Every part of his name except his last name and the name he was called most often. But he had one full name at the beginning of the book, another at the end, and hinted that he had more middle names than he stated as part of his full name.

The main character, Daria, was highly unlikeable. She was always whining and seemed really stupid. I understand that she had bad things happen to her, she was thrown into a situation with a group of people she couldn't understand and that this book isn't really long enough to make her a rounded character, but she seemed more of a caricature, like - dare I say - Bella Swan from Twilight. It left the ending open for more books, but I feel like it's going to be one of those teen dramas where the girl can't pick a side and is in love with any guy with a pretty face.

It was a great concept, one which could have been expanded on and she has been a favorite author of mine in the past. But this just isn't up to snuff.

God where do I even begin? Let me disclose that I've never read an SK book so I have no baseline of how she normally writes.

First off, the storyline is lacking. I've read novellas and short stories that had more development than this. I dont know why my library labeled the demographic as 15 to 18 year old because the writing level was definitely more towards middle school. Insurrection read like an outline/first draft rather than an actual novella. Maybe it was a blessing that this was less than 100 pages because by page 10 I was considering dnf-ing this book. I was expecting more plotting to take down the government but the story was more like "omg i thought humans were gross but this one is like super hot so i guess i will hang out with these rebels."

The characters are flat. Josiah is laughably edgy. Daria is shallow af. I know shes a teenager but damn, all she can talk about is how hot guys are. Also, her and Josiah? Gross. Just what was Kenyon thinking??? Daria is a teenager and Josiah is old ass man who conveniently still has the body of a mid 20 year old. I get it, real teenagers get the hots for adults all the time, but the other way around? In the words (or thoughts) of Josiah: I need to gouge out my eyes.

In conclusion, Kenyon crams too many plot points and tropes without actually making it cohesive enough to justify having to publish it in the first place.

Can Mankind's Will To Survive Be Enough?

Kenyon has built another fascinating world version.
Our introduction to post-invasion earth has painted a perilous future for humans. They are all in hiding as the alien invaders have decided that people are no more than scraps, or vermin, who don't deserve to live on their planet. All humans are nothing more than tissue donars, slaves, and don't deserve to exist.
The Nevermore characters are compelling and have evolved, over a 100 year invasion, into much more than they were the day the invasion started. At least all the humans that didn't die from the plague the invaders brought with them. They have adapted physiologically, and magically, and have some exciting powers that will make for an Insurrection that certainly be historic.
This is going to evolve into a fun series. The first edition is a bit rough around the edges, but that can all be ironed out with a bit of editing.
I absolutely recommend this new series for everyone, even young adults.
This is going to be ranked in with the Chronicles of Nick series.
I'm ready for book two!

I'm a big fan of Sherrilyn Kenyon's books but wasn't sure how this new series was going to strike me. Written decades ago, she worked to get this published for years and now has the name and staying power to get it done. While this is just a novella it introduces us to a world where humans are being exterminated or used by the Drabs, an alien race that came to Earth and took over. Humans under age 25 survived though, with new abilities. Other humans became Remnants, or flesh-eaters, but being super smart they hunt both the Drabs and "Scraps" (mutated humans) for their source of protein.
Very well executed plot and story, and interesting characters are what I've come to expect from Kenyon, and this was no different. She pulls the reader in from the very beginning and makes you turn the pages as fast as possible, devouring any and all morsels she sets in front of you. I still love the Dark Hunterverse and the Born universe, but I anxiously await the next installment of Insurrection.

I'm super confused. This book hasn't come out, but the first 6 chapters are available. The premise is interesting, although not so quite original (still, it left me wanting to read more). However, the characters seem...meh. And don't get me started on the instalove. What. You're telling me you have this male character whose family got murdered by an alien invasion and suddenly he got the hots for the main female alien of the story. COME ON, KENYON. I've read far too many of your books to know that you can do better. Where is the conflict of interest? The internal conflict for both characters? We're talking about an alien race that invaded Earth and killed most of us. This ain't Mass Effect, lady; you don't get to fall in love with the Turian after seeing him just once.

Let's hope the full book gets better.

This is a really hard one to rate. I love Sherrilyn Kenyon and every single novel and short she has released. This one is a short novella type, young adult series about an apocalyptic future. I do love the concept and where she may be leading us. There is excitement and suspense for sure. I do look forward to the next installment as I want to see how this progresses.
I rate 3 stars mainly because it was way too short. You don't really get to enjoy the characters and you don't get to learn much about them yet. When you finally get into it, it's over. I'm hoping the next one is more in depth and we get to understand them better.
I feel she could have given us a lot more than just 136 pages. Especially for a $17 price. I hope the next one is a lot longer than this one.
All in all it is a good concept and good for young adult readers.

I'm struggling with this one! Love it and hate it at the same time.
First of all, I am a HUGE fan of Sherrilyn's. One of my top 5 favorite authors of all time. I have been a Menyon for well over a decade now. I have EVERY novel & novella she has published in multiple formats and have read them all at least 3 times. I find myself shocked that I am a little disappointed with this one. I like the story line & the world being created but the book is so short that it just ruins it! It's almost confusing with very little character depth because there is no time - everything seems rushed. The lead female character is very unlikable, generic & jumped from one guy to the next...to the next...and back again in the space of a page turn. I just hope the next release in this new series isn't so short & disappointing.

I'm honestly not even sure if I liked this book or not, because it's not a full book. It's the beginning of a book. Which is extra bad when you're being introduced to a new series (especially one in a fantasy world). You've just met the main characters and started to learn what kind of world they live in, and are shown the beginning of a plot, and then the book JUST ENDS. It's super weird. I've never had this experience with a Sherrilyn Kenyon novel before. I might actually get the next book from the library before spending money on it, though normally I want to own every single Sherrilyn Kenyon book.

An okay start to a new series? I can see this having potential, however the first novella was too short. A 100 years ago the Drabs arrived on Earth and released a virus. The virus wiped out most of humanity, those that survived were below the age of 25 and mutated become a Scrap (someone with special abilities shape shifting, teleportation, etc) or a Remnant (someone mutated with extreme intelligence and strength but crave protein that will eventually drive them mad). The Scraps are trying to pull together with the help of Josiah "Crow" will humanity be able to survive.

Pretty good start!

Lost a star for being so short that it's a tease.

We got a group of scrappy humans trying to wrest control of Earth back from aliens who've claimed and colonized the planet, a group of highly intelligent non-zombie zombies trying to get their humanity back, and then there's the aliens themselves.

The book seems to be just an introduction to a new Kenyon world, as little happens til the last few chapters, but it's looking like it's gonna be a fun one to revisit when the next book appears.

This book (can six chapters even be called a book?) was a waste of my time. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone, unless someone is a really huge fan of the author and just wants to read anything she writes.

There is no character building nor any world building and a plot has yet to be found. Nothing that is going on is really explained at all. Yet after finishing the six chapters it does not make me wish I could read the next part. I was just glad it was over with and I could move on to a better book.

This...this is not what I expect from reading an SK novel... I've read her Chronicles of Nick series and loved that, so I was excited to read this one too. Unfortunately, this is definitely not her best work. I found the actual plot to be very bare bones, and the characters just didn't have anything to them. I was bored, upset, and just not enjoying myself reading this. Even though she has these divided up into multiple books, if this is how it starts I don't wanna read the rest. This just...it's a no.

As far as novellas go, this one is pretty good. I may be wearing rose coloured glasses though.
Honestly, as an introduction to the world, it's pretty sweet.
Will probably need to read book 2 to get a better grasp on the series.
Enjoying the characters so far though; and this world is a little more messed up than I was expecting (I avoid most forms of dystopian fiction - DW's Turn Left has been scarred forevermore)
Thanks Author Goddess, love your work as always
Oh, and Fred's narration is easy going and enjoyable

This was a short Novella to give us a taste of what the Nevermore series will be like. I loved it. Sherrilyn Kenyon is pretty much the only YA author I’ll read and this book hit it on the head. It had action, plot, and feeling. Not only that but there’s. Short story the end that is really good for only being like 10 pages or so. If your looking for your next YA series, look no further. I can’t wait for the next book!
