Groot (een beer) en Klein (een muis) gaan samen op pad. Klein komt steeds in de problemen en vraagt Groot om hulp. Maar eenmaal thuis, heeft Groot hulp nodig.
A story of each person in a relationship has something to give and at the end of the day what does mouse give bear? I have always enjoyed Jane Chapman's illustrations for Karma Wilson's picture book series about bears, but needing to be just somewhat different in illustration for a different author, Chapman's illustrations lose something in this title. They are not as engaging, but at the same time one is wondering if this is a Wilson book. Chapman needs to illustrate each story, not impose her overall vision on every author she illustrates for.
I thought this was a good book. It gives the children a concept of the shapes and sizes of the two animals and how Small wants to do everything with Big, but sometimes it doesn't always work out. It also shows the concept of friendship. Throughout the book, Small needed Big to help with the bees and get him across the stream because the stones were too far apart. In the end, Big needed Small to help him go to sleep, so he returns the favor. I loved this book and I think children would love it too!
I really liked this book because to me, it shows its okay to ask for help big or small. Kids need to know even adults have to ask for help sometimes so it is okay to ask your friends or teachers and parents for help. I wish the book would have had the bear asking for more help instead of at the end, But at the same time, I am glad the book ended the way it did because sometimes all parents need at the end of the day is a hug from their littles.
Big and Small: By Elizabeth Bennett and Jane Chapman. Published by
A kind, blue bear (Big) and a tiny, white mouse (Small) are best friends. They decide to spend the day playing and discovering the outdoors.
Big climbs high on a giant tree and Small crawls low and is dwarfed by mushrooms. He stubs his toe and calls to Big: “A little help, please!” Big is quick to comfort his tiny friend. As their adventure together progresses, they cross streams, eat lunch, roll down hills, but each time Small encounters difficulties, he calls Big for help.
As the day turns to night, Big and Small head home. Once snuggled and warm in their beds, Big finds that he just can't sleep. He calls to Small: “A little help, please!” and Small is quick to deliver an affectionate hug.
This story speaks more than friendship to me. It talks of shapes, sizes and a tenderness between two unlikely friends. The story demonstrates the responsibility of caring for another being, (regardless of differences).
Throughout the story, some wording is over-sized making it attractive visually for little readers. I especially enjoyed how the story also promoted a love of nature and life itself.
Author Elizabeth Bennett and illustrator Jane Chapman certainly have a winner here. A great choice for parents and teachers to read to a young audience.
Is it possible that a very large creature could be bestest friends with a very small creature? Yes, it is!
A big blue bear and a tiny white mouse, who are fondly referred to as Big and Small, start the day on an outing to play. Big climbs high on a giant tree and Small crawls low amongst some red polka-dotted mushrooms. But something happens to Small. He stubs his toe. “A little help, please!” calls Small. The two friends continue their play and each time something happens to Small and he calls on his friend Big for help. As the day turns to night Big and Small head home. Once snuggled down, Big finds that he can't sleep. He calls to Small, “A little help please!” What do you think Small does to help Big get to sleep?
Author Elizabeth Bennett and illustrator Jane Chapman share a story of friendship along with teaching young readers the differences of big and small. Bright colors of green and blue and other cool colors are displayed across the pages. Young readers can learn shapes, colors and point out the various other objects and insects found throughout the story. Simple sentences with some oversized words make learning to read fun and easy. Parents and teachers will love this story as a read-a-loud for a young audience.
Ihanan monitulkintainen kuvakirja!
The pictures in this book are really cute, and the moral of "sometimes small things need help and big things need to help, but there are also things small things can do to help big things' I just summed of the book with a long run on sentence!
I liked it, but the words didn't flow freely- still nicely done and worth reading!
This is a cute story about two best friends who venture out to play on a sunny day. Small seems to find himself in a pickle on their adventure, and it's not until they get home that roles reverse and Big needs the help with something very important.
Ideal for young readers, this story highlights friendship and assisting friends when needed, no matter what their size.
Two friends, Big and Small take the reader through their day of fun. If reading this book out loud to a group, it is fun to teach the children how to say in a mouse voice "a little help, please" and encourage them to say it at the appropriate time. Also say it in a bear voice for the end.
Big (a bear) and Small (a mouse) are friends and do all sorts of things together. Mouse doesn't hesitate to ask for help when someone bigger is needed. In the end, Big needs help falling asleep and asks for help from Small. They hug and fall asleep.
This is a really cute story about a mouse and a bear. The mouse (named Small) is a little bit too tiny for this world, and needs the bear’s (Big) help with a lot. But at night, Small needs to help Big because he’s too afraid of the dark! A really cute story
preS-first grade Very cute, in the best sense, of two friends who are opposite sizes. Simple story that kids can relate to, since mouse almost always needs help. But then, sometimes Bear does too.
This was a cute book. I love the way Jane Chapman illustrates, and this looks like one of her bear books, but it's not as it as another author. A little bit of a let down, but not much of one.
