Excellent - it starts with a lot of intensity and it keeps building. The artwork is brilliant and the story was incredibly compelling. I'm looking forward to reading part 2 tomorrow.

How does Alex Ross do this? He has to be an alien or secretly super-human himself, right? Time and time again he demonstrates that realism and illustration are incredible tools of force in comic books and Justice - Part One is no exception.
I liked the premise of this from the start. There's an element here of DC villains trying to beat the heroes at their own game and that plays out as a pretty novel concept! That said, it did feel it took a while to get going. The six issues collected here are clearly the villainous set up - and that's OK - it just feels like it's a bit drawn out in making the emphasis. This isn't helped by the fact that there isn't much subplot or focus to deviate from the point.
Where this really shines though is in its ability to balance a more nostalgic form of writing and the darker elements we see more of today. The JLA character representation is always on point with Ross and there's no exception here. That said, the villains do seem to miss their moment in the sun and appear a little light on personality.
Overall, this was a pretty good and novel take on a JLA story - it's not the best I've read! But it's worth reading, if not for Alex Ross' glorious art. Sadly, as a note - the Eaglemoss Edition has some major misprints for issue two so if you have the collection you may want to check.

Part one is quite good, I guess everything's good when Alex Ross is around. His realistic art matches so well with a scenario that tries to tackle more realistic aspects of a superhero world. I don't have great expactations for the second part, because I have the feeling the ending solution will be something ridiculous but we shall see...

The art was a really interesting style. However I could enjoy Chapter 2 because the art was completely pixelated. I expected better quality for eaglemoss, really dissapointed.

Part of the DC Comics Graphic Novel Collection.
The main story in this book sees the Justice League ambushed and comprehensively defeated by an alliance of villains led by Lex Luthor and Brainiac. Scattered and incapacitated, the League has to try to pull itself together again before it can be destroyed by its enemies.
The back-up story, from 1941, features the first-ever appearance of Aquaman.
I actually read Part 2 before this book (reading books out of sequence is the cost of picking them up on the cheap whenever I can) but, honestly, had forgotten all about it by the time I read this one. Overall I have to say I enjoyed seeing how the JLA are outmanoeuvred by the supervillains, leaving them in desperate straits. It makes this an underdog story and I'm always onboard for that sort of tale.
Alex Ross' artwork is brilliant, if sometimes a bit too static for my tastes, but I was annoyed that, through no fault of the creative team, the printing of this book left much of the artwork pixelated and, frankly, ruined. So, shame on Eaglemoss Collections for churning out a substandard product.
The back-up story, with Aquaman's first appearance, is nothing particularly special or engaging, but I did find it fun to see that hero taking on Nazi U-Boats. Sometimes it's easy to forget that many of our most iconic superheroes debuted amid the Second World War.

Es definitivamente uno de los mejores de la colección. El discurso de Luthor acerca de que los humanos se pusieron flojos debido a la llegada de los superhéroes metahumanos y como la liga de la justicia podría hacer algo más por las personas indigentes o que mueren de hambre más allá de salvarnos de una invasión alienígena somos para que regresen a su vida miserable es ub discurso la verdad bastante potente, salvo que pierde ub poquito de peso al ser el hipócrita y estar ejecutando algo junto con Brainiac.
Ver como uno a uno los miembros de la liga iban cayendo también fue algo bastante interesante y en cierta parte estresante debido al hecho de que al no saber nada quería leer de inmediato la parte dos para tener más información jaajajaja.
Creo que la parte que más me gustó fue la de Batman contra el Acertijo y Shazam tirando a Superman al sol para que su control mental por esos gusanos microscópicos terminen siendo borrados. También la parte de Aquaman y del Detective marciano enfrentándose tanto a Gorilla Gross como a Manta Negra.
Ver como uno a uno los miembros de la liga iban cayendo también fue algo bastante interesante y en cierta parte estresante debido al hecho de que al no saber nada quería leer de inmediato la parte dos para tener más información jaajajaja.

A lovely, sumptuous, glossy hardback, with wonderful Alex Ross artwork. The Justice story is a big megadramatic 'epic' that flits from one character and scene to another without really apparently going anywhere in almost 200 pages, other than exuding the vague sense that the JLA are under the cosh because some consortium of villains are orchestrating their undoing. That said, it all looks fantastic, and I quite enjoyed seeing the 'lesser lights' of Hawkman, Aquaman, Red Tornado, Atom, Black Canary, even Plastic Man, putting in an appearance alongside the usual Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern. I wanted to enjoy it rather more than I actually did, but perhaps I just need Part 2.
The inclusion of Aquaman's first story at the back, from More Fun Comics #73 from 1941 is also welcome, and well reproduced considering its age. 4/5

Este comic ilustrado por Alex Ross apunta a proporciones épicas, con toques de misterio dando vueltas por todos lados y la inclusión de una gran cantidad de personajes de la JLA, y la Legión del Mal.
Básicamente la Legión del Mal acusa a los superhéroes de ser criminales por su inacción y hacen un plan para eliminar a la Liga de la Justicia y a la vez hacerlos quedar mal realizando buenas obras por todo el Mundo. La historia tiene sus problemas, por ejemplo Lex Luthor, supuestamente un super genio criminal no tiene en cuenta la ayuda de los reservistas de la Liga, lo cual es bastante tonto de alguna forma, y asi como este ejemplo hay varias cosas más.
En resumen, es un buen comic y vale la pena aunque sea simplemente para disfrutar el arte de Ross. Veremos como termina.

Alex Ross é o cara! Traços como sempre impecáveis, além do jogo de sombras e o realismo extremo nas feições das personagens. Nas primeiras páginas já traz o todo-poderoso se questionando por que não chegou a tempo... Um plano infalível desta vez, tramado por um dos poucos vilões capazes para tal. Uma boa premissa: Por que a Liga da Justiça nunca antes usou seus super poderes para tornar o mundo melhor? E quem salva o Super-Homem?

Que HQ maravilhosa!!! Os desenhos são muito pika, parecem muito realistas, embaçados demais. Quanto a história: até o momento está muito boa, os vilões articularam um plano mto bom que f*deu a liga da justiça toda e agr vamos ver no que vai dar... única coisa que achei estranha foi terem conseguido pegar o Batman sem ele ter previsto o rolê ai, pq né É O FUCKING BATMAN ELE SABE TUDO.

Un dibujo realista, detallado y como poco se ve, juntado con un guion oscuro, enigmático y un poquito doloroso. Justicia sin duda pone en al lector a pensar en la necesidad de un héroe y su función, además de la vida y la de los llamados villanos.

Esse quadrinho não pode ser definido como outra palavra que não arte.
Eu peguei pra ler esperando ser mais uma leitura da tarde, esperando terminar ainda aquela tarde, mas a força de cada página dessa obra me impediu disso, visualmente a arte do Alex Ross já é uma coisa deslumbrante, unida a uma narrativa tão estupenda faz com que essa história tire o fôlego, e tire mesmo, o começo dessa história é um evento cataclísmico de proporções apocalípticas e eu fielmente acredito que jamais lerei uma sequência de páginas que me deixem tão mesmerizado, é a primeira vez em muitos anos que eu consumo uma obra e sou enganado a acreditar "Meu Deus...é isso ? Acabou" sendo que faz 15 minutos que começou.
Unido esse começo estapafúrdio, a um mistério tão envolvente que é de arranhar o chão com as unhas dos pés, com um uso de palavras tão bem colocadas que a trilha sonora do passar das páginas vai ser as batidas do seu coração, cria-se a obra que merecidamente é chamada de Renascimento do gênero de Super Heróis.
