Booze, women, and brotherhood—that’s what my good friend Quinn’s bachelor party should have been.
Booze, one mysterious raven-haired woman, and an arrest—that’s what it was.
As Cam Mitchell, a New York Maverick and one of the best tight ends in the professional football league, my to-do list should be pretty simple.
Play ball. Get laid. Have fun.
But after one hour with a stripper named Trixie, that list of mine has shifted dramatically.
Tell Quinn to call my lawyer. And, for the love of God, don’t get fired from the Mavericks.
I swear, I tried to make it stop there. But one tiny thing keeps finding its way to the very top…
Find out more about the dark-haired beauty with the big blue eyes and make her mine.
Too bad it’s a hell of a lot more complicated than that.
How do you fall in love with a woman whose real name you don’t know?
Well, ladies and gentlemen…I’m about to find out.

SUCH AN ADORABLE STORY!
I just loved Cam!!! He's such a sweet guy. And cocky. And hot and talented and adorable and he has a crazy dog! ☺
Even if you're not a fan of football, you just need to read this book!! Also - we're not really footballing in here - they're between seasons but we still see all those eye candy football players!
This book was a tiny bit different than the last one. It's still mega adorable and funny and sexy - but we also have the whole crime thing in there. And that makes it a bit exciting.
I just adored Cam's story. I also adored all the other players from the previous books and Leo from the upcoming book. And I adored the heroine's hilarious family and their dinners. Amazing book!
It was funny, adorable, very sexy, exciting. Not a thing to complain about!
TRiCK PLAY was an amazingly adorable & funny & sexy & exciting Football-Cop-Romance! Hurry to your nearest amazon - Cam will be sold out in no time!!!
"If anything in my life is worth fighting for, it’s her."
If you are a HUGE FAN of the ‘Mavericks Tackle Love’ series by the wonderful ladies of Max Monroe, than you gotta know how absolutely ECSTATIC I was to have my hands on Cam Mitchell’s story! I mean, it’s Cam FREAKING Michell, people! I’m swooning all over the damn place here! Trick Play had all of the ingredients that make up a fantastic Romantic Comedy! It also had Max Monroe’s stamp ALL OVER IT! Sexy, hilarious, witty, emotional, and completely unforgettable, my heart definitely went through the ringer with this one. It was a fast-paced, absolutely PAGE-TURNER of a romantic read and I NEVER wanted it to end.
Cam and ‘Trixie’ were freaking ADORABLE together. Cam is EVERYTHING you thought he would be and more! When he sets his heart on something, it will take God himself, to pull his focus. And Trixie? Well, there is so much more to that woman, you don’t even know. The sexual tension goes up higher with every turn of the page and when these two kids finally break down each other’s walls, your heart will EXPLODE with happiness! There will be some deception, there will be heartbreak, but the romance is definitely ALIVE with this one, folks! I can’t wait for fans of the series to get their hands on Trick Play! A sexy, witty sports romance with enough comic relief to keep you on your toes…you couldn’t ask for anything better!
Cameron (Cam) Mitchell is the tight end for the NY Mavericks. He’s good at what he does, and he sure as hell knows it, too. When one of his teammates is due to be married, the team ends up at Skins, the local strip club for some last-minute celebrating. Cam isn’t usually into exotic dancers, but since he’s single, he decides to unwind and enjoy himself. And that’s when he spots the most beautiful raven-haired woman he’s ever seen—a woman by the name of Trixie. She is captivating in every way possible and instantly Cam is smitten.
Cam repeatedly goes back to Skins to see Trixie. He wants to know her true identity, but she’s playing hard to get. What Cam doesn’t know is Trixie is Lana Simone, an undercover detective for the Hoboken PD, trying to bust a drug and sex ring run by Skins’ owner, Marco. And getting involved with one of the patrons of Skins could blow Lana’s cover. But even still, she can’t help but be attracted to Cam, his devilish good looks, his charm and sexy motorcycle.
But when the media gets word that Cam has a new lady in his life, Lana is worried her cover will be blown—months of hard work will go down the drain, possibly ruining her career. Cam has no idea who Lana really is. To him, she’s a career exotic dancer. And if he finds out who she is, not only could her career be at jeopardy, but her heart could be on the line, too.
Trick Play by Max Monroe is the third book in the Mavericks Tackle Love series. I absolutely loved Wildcat, the first book in the series, and thought the second, Pick Six, was good, but not a favorite. I had high hopes for the third installment, Trick Play. I enjoyed the romance between Lana and Cam, but for some reason, it didn’t quite work for me fully. Their romance escalated quickly and to me it didn’t seem like their was much of an emotional foundation there. It seemed purely physical. I enjoyed that Max Monroe included characters from the first two books—that’s something I always like in companion series. I liked this one, but didn’t love it. With that said, I look forward to finishing up this sports romance series! 3.5/5 stars.
Unfortunately another book in this series I just couldn't get. Cam and Lana had spent very little time together aside from a couple of lap dances, then they have sex. He determinedly tries to get further with her but because of her "jobs" she holds back. The big conflict occurs as Lana takes the word of her sleezeball boss, who she knows very well is untrustworthy, about Cam's actions when he came looking for her at the club. I just don't get it! She calls things off between them because of that which I found ridiculous. I skimmed to the end but this one just honestly missed me. The best thing about this book aside from Lana's family is possibly Cam's dedication in his pursuit of Lana, but considering the circumstances that too came across as unbelievable and this is coming from someone who loves instalove romances😂.All in all another fail for me, will I read the next book? unfortunately I most likely will 😭
4 stars. This was a cute book! Trick Play is Cam Mitchell and Lana's story. Cam is one of the pro-football players on the Mavericks. When his friend Quinn (from Wildcat) has a bachelor party at a strip club, Cam meets the woman of his dreams. He can't get her out of his mind and goes out of his way to pursue her. The only problem is the woman of his dreams, who he thinks is a stripper named Trixie, is actually Lana and she's way more than just a stripper. Lana has some big secrets. She likes Cam, but she has to stay focused on keeping her secrets in order to keep herself and everyone she loves safe. As she spends time with him, it gets harder and harder to keep him in the dark. When Cam finds out what Lana's hiding, he is not happy at all. But their strong feelings for each other overcome in the end.
I really enjoyed this book! It is definitely my favorite in this series. I connected well with the characters and story. This was a fun, light read. It was quick and easy with Max Monroe's trademark humor, but it had a dash of suspense emotional punch as well. Yet, it was not OTT, forced, silly-funny. Cam was adorable and Lana was strong, yet still vulnerable. They were a great couple. I would have liked the conflict wrapped up a little sooner than the last few pages, but that did not stop my enjoyment. I also would have liked to see more of what their relationship was like once Lana's secret came out. Still, there is a cute epilogue to make up for it.
Overall, this was a fun, entertaining read. I enjoyed watching Cam and Lana "tackle love"! I can't wait for more from the Mavericks and Max Monroe in the future!
ARC kindly received in exchange for an honest review.
I don’t like to say this, but unfortunately with Trick Play, I just couldn’t really get into it. This is a first for me with this series and Max Monroe, but something about the book just didn’t hook me the way I normally expect with their stories.
That said, there’s nothing wrong with the story itself, or the plot. It’s all about wondering when Trixie will come clean with Cam, and if or how they will end up together. There are great secondary characters in terms of Trixie’s family, and of course we get some glimpses of the Mavericks as well.
I just felt that I didn’t connect with the characters or feel that invested in their story. I’m wondering if this was just me though, and where I’m at with my reading right now.
I have seen ALOT of positive reviews for this book, so I’m thinking I’m one of the odd ones out here. The whole idea of the storyline is a good one, and intriguing in itself, something a little different for this series from Max Monroe.
I still look forward to reading the next book in this series, and whatever else comes next from Max Monroe.
Yay Cam and Lana! Another fun one and these two are so adorable together.
“Sometimes brief encounters are meant to have the biggest impact.”
Cam met Lana while she was shaking what her momma gave her. It didn’t end very well but she made a huge impact on him. Lana has reasons why she has to keep Cam at arms length but boy is he persistent. Seriously, I can’t even with Cam. His favorite movie is Notting Hill and he quotes from it! See, can’t even. I love Lana’s family, they are so entertaining. The epilogue with them I’m it was what my mom likes to say “a hoot”. I couldn’t stop giggling. I just love reading MM books, it always leaves me with a smile on my face.
I'm not having the best luck with the Mavericks series. Sigh.
Instead of finding the shenanigans of the MC's cute and amusing, I thought they were silly and annoying.
I also need to fall in love with at least one of the MC's (better, of course, if I love them both) for me to fully engage and enjoy a book. Especially because I read romances and for me, it's all about love and the HEA. So if I can't fall in love with one of the MC's, well... then... usually the book ends up 2-stars, or worse a 1-star read.
There's really nothing wrong with this book. MC's just didn't do anything for me. Sorry to the fans.
4 Bo Mavericks stars! This story was a lot of fun to read! I loved the story on how these two characters meet and how the story developed. It made for a great read. The story was all the things you love in a Max Monroe novel - funny, sexy, engaging, heart-warming, suspenseful and so much more. I can’t wait to read more about the Mavericks!! This can be read standalone.
Trick Play by Max Monroe is the third book in their Mavericks Tackle Love series and the first I have read by this writing duo. This can definitely be read as a standalone, however, I am very excited to go back and read the previous books in this series as I loved all the characters.
Cam Mitchell’s life could not be more perfect. He plays for the New York Mavericks and he loves his job and teammates. When they are out celebrating the upcoming wedding of one of his closest friends, the last thing he expects is to be arrested. Especially for coming to the rescue of one of the strippers. But that is exactly what happens.
Trixie is more than a stripper. A lot more, but a girl has to keep her secrets. She could have handled herself just fine, but the man who stands up to protect her sure is hot, sexy and unforgettable. But she has plans and they do not include the sexy Cam Mitchell. So why can’t she stop thinking about him?
Cam is so taken by Trixie and he can’t seem to get her out of his mind. He wants to get to know her, but she pushes him away at every turn. But a man like Cam is not so easily put off. Now he is finding himself falling for Trixie, but does he truly know who she is?
I loved Tricked Play by Max Monroe. I could not stop reading. I laughed, I swooned and I hurt, but overall, I loved the characters, all of them, and their journey! The story was funny and sweet with just a touch of angst.
My heart, I tell ya, my heart is swooning! I'm always excited when a Max Monroe book lands on my Kindle, but I was especially excited for this one. This whole series has been so amazing, but I have to say that Trick Play is the best of them all. It's got MM's signature rom-com humor mixed with sizzle, but in this case, there's an added layer of emotional feels.
This time it's Cameron Mitchell's turn to fall hard for a special lady. Cam's a special guy on a team full of football gods. He's their tight end (cue the snickering jokes about HIS tight end) and is pretty darn confident about it. "God, he was so confident. Too confident. Like he'd had ten too many years getting everything he'd gone after and then some." But, at his heart, he's a great guy with an innate sweetness that only true gentlemen have.
Then he meets this mysterious woman at the strip club where the guys have taken Quinn for his bachelor party. And he can't get her off his mind. This woman "was sex and innocence, and was the perfect combination of the two." And to top it all off, she won't give him her real name, so the only way he can track her down is to make himself really comfortable at the club, so he can spend time with her, hopefully to get to know her. And soon, they're indulging in hot romps at his home, but she always holds something of herself back from him. She even tries running from him a couple times. But Cam is nothing if not persistent when he wants something, and Lana (Trixie) is what he wants. If only she'd open up completely and let him know all of her, the real Lana. Not the stripper he met at the club, the real woman he gets glimpses of.
Lana, gah, that woman was so frustrating! She had this big secret and I knew when it came out it was going to hurt Cam, and it did. Badly. She could have just been honest, but she was raised by men who lived for their jobs, and it made her the same way. Thank God her dad gave her a good lecture to get her head straight. And when she made up to Cam and apologized? Oh swoon. So sweet!
These two were perfect for each other, with his quoting Notting Hill and her loving Dirty Dancing.
And then that sweet, amazingly swoon worthy ending. Sheesh, I think my heart exploded from all the sweetness!
Max Monroe has raised the bar with Trick Play. I can only imagine where they're taking us next!
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book*
5 “Funny, Sweet, and Addictive” Stars!!!
Max Monroe's Mavericks Tackle Love series has become one of my most favorite series. Low on drama and heavy on the laughs. And let's not forget the sexiness, because lord knows it's fire. And the characters never cease to amaze me. They're a group of fun loving people who I can't get enough of. Honestly, fell good stories that leave the biggest smile on my face.
Cam Cam Cam. I've wanted his book from the very first moment he was introduced. I needed his story so freaking bad! And oh boy I was not disappointed. He surprised me in a such a very very very good way. He had me smitten and swoony and I was just a cloud 9 mess. I loved his patience and how he was an all around amazing guy. There's no question that Cam Mitchell is my favorite Maverick.
'Trixie' was a stubborn thing. She was fierce and also a fireball. A badass through and though. There was more to 'Trixie' that met the eye. A mystery if you will. I loved how dedicated she was, she had a strong head on her shoulder. She was exactly the perfect match for a certain football player.
I loved how Cam and 'Trixie' met. It was the start to a ride I didn't want to jump off of. From their very first encounter it was evident it was going to be one for the books. Their chemistry was fire! They were just so good together. I couldn't get enough of them and just wanted more more more.
Trick Play was a hilarious, entertaining, sexy, addictive romantic comedy. It had me turning the pages at record speed in the hopes that it would never end. Cam and 'Trixie' will make your heart explode with happiness. I was so ecstatic to get back to the world of Mavericks football and catching up with previous characters from the other books. And I'm suuuuuuper excited for 4th & Girl, Leo's book. *happy dance* So glad I don't have to say goodbye to these guys just yet.
Cam Mitchell can be a little impulsive and a lot playful, to say the least. Although recently he has found himself wanting more, with his best friends finding the love of their lives, Cam can't help being envious of the bond his friends have with their significant others. So when faced with irresistible attraction Cam just goes with his instincts, and his instincts are telling him this could be something special.
The circumstances to Cam's first meeting with Trixie are unconventional and result in a night Cam will never forget and not for the right reasons 😃 Yet, the pull towards each other is a fight neither Cam nor Trixie can hope to win.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of things Trixie is unable to tell Cam due to the situation she is currently in!!!! Although she is herself when she is with Cam the toll the lack of open communication weighs heavy between them. Especially as Trixie is so very guarded, raising a lot of red flags for Cam. Adding to the tension is Cam's fame from playing for the Mavericks while Trixie cannot risk being recognized!!!!!
Cam and Trixie have the same desire to find a life partner to share the ups and downs with. I loved the imagery used of a lone wolf searching for its pack; especially poignant when both Cam and Trixie were having the same feelings at the same time just in different locations.
The relationship and the intensity of emotions move along at a rapid pace but the progression felt organic and not at all contrived. Cam and Trixie quite simply fit. Although there are circumstantial problems to overcome there isn't anything between Cam and Trixie that cannot be fixed simply by being open and honest 💞
Uh, no, that’s NOT the opening line of a joke. Trixie and Cam meet at a bar. A strip bar to be exact. And whoa, do the sparks fly!
I have adored Cam Mitchell from the very first time I met him in Wildcat and I couldn’t wait until it was his turn to find love. And holy moly does love come banging on his door! Or maybe thumping through a heavy bassline, is more accurate.
Trixie. Damn. I have a serious girl crush on this woman. Tough as nails. Strong minded, strong willed, sexy as hell. I devoured every scene she was in—loved her interactions with her co-workers and her family. She is no pushover in life or love.
Speaking of love. There’s a whole lot of love going on between Cam and Trixie. I loved watching Cam and Trixie fall in love. Even without really knowing each other, there’s an undeniable attraction, a connection. And wow is amazing. They’re fantastic together in and out of the bedroom. *fans self*
I couldn’t get to the end of Trick Play fast enough to see how Cam and Trixie’s story unfolded. Then, of course, as I got to the last few pages, I hated for the story to end. That’s the mark of an excellent book! Which Trick Play is exactly that—excellent! ~ Missy, 5 stars
Started off good, then went downhill. Overall, pretty lackluster.
Cam(football player) is at Quinn's bachelor party when he spots the HOTTEST stripper. Trixie has no time to focus on sexy Cam because she's actually an undercover cop, Lana. I was disappointed in that. Can't a stripper just be a stripper? Those girls need love too. Anyway - she's trying to bust a drug/prostitution ring at the strip club. Of course, she keeps it a secret from Cam and in the end, lies become an issue. Doesn't take long for a HEA.
So, at the beginning things were kinda funny. Things started getting blah after they first have sex. For one thing, it's ends on a fade. Guess what - if a couple is having sex IRL and they don't orgasm - it leaves them unsatisfied. Same thing happens with readers. Don't quit in the middle of sex!!! Shouldn't be a hard concept. Anyway - the author alludes to the fact that this situation is dangerous, Lana could be in danger, Cam could be in danger, there might be tampering with drug tests, her skeevy boss might hurt her - but then it just ends. Nothing happens. The drug bust happens and it's over. Where's the drama or excitement?!?!
So fun and sweet and swoony, and Cam is quite delicious. He and Trixie have so much chemistry, sweet lord have mercy! But more than that, they had a great connection. I enjoyed their banter and the back and forth, the teasing.
I really liked that Cam didn’t shy away from Trixie because of her career choice. It didn’t deter him from pursuing her and I think that showed a lot about his character, because it's not every day a man would be so accepting of the woman he cared about dancing for other men! Full disclosure, I have a bit of a girl crush on Trixie. She's feisty and a badass and next to Cassie might just be my favorite MM heroine. And I just flat out have a crush on Cam. He just too freaking adorable for words.
Trick Play is everything I adore about a Max Monroe book, but what I loved best was that not everything was as it seemed in this one. They pulled a little trickery that I wasn't expecting and totally nailed it!
The third book in the Mavericks Tackle Love Series takes us on the journey of Cam Mitchell finding love. However what we don’t expect is for him to find love falling into his lap, or in this case a lap dance with a stripper by the name of Trixie. Their story is less about the football aspect and more about two lonely people who have put their careers first. As Cam tries to find out what lays beneath the g strings, stilettos and a fake name, Trixie tries to keep her distance. However, this might be a case of the heart wants what it wants. As secrets are discovered and hearts are put on the line this might be the hardest play either of these two have had to make. A book packed with emotion, wit and steamy moments.
WOW! When any book by this duo is released, you better believe that I am all over it! This is the third book in the Mavericks series and Trick Play was a touchdown!
We get the story of Cam Mitchell and Lana "Trixie" Simone. Their story isn't like the others. They meet in the most interesting way, at a bachelor party that just so happens to be at a strip club! That's right, Cam gets his eye full of Trixie and immediately hungers for more. But in order to get her attention, he has to become somewhat of a "regular". Cam stands out considering that he is a football player for the NY Mavericks. He too gains attention wherever he goes.
The story unfolds in the most crazy rollercoaster of a ride. We get to know more of who Cam is, what he wants in life and how he plans to achieve it. We learn about Lana and the struggles that she faces with being honest with Cam. Lana has a BIG secret and she just can't bring herself to tell Cam about it.
You know you want to read this story! It's funny, it's sweet, it's sad and downright delivers all of the 'feels'. So grab a box of doughnuts, one click this book and devour the awesomeness that is Max Monroe's latest book!
The newest book from Max Monroe is a little different from the past in the Maverick's series. Pick Six and Wild Cat was more like the Billionaire series, funny and sexy and Trick Play had a more serious tone to it. Don't get me wrong, the sexy is ON POINT in this book but if you are looking for some serious silly, this book may not be for you. There are definitely some light moments and absolutely some LOL moments with Trixie/Lana's family - I want to have Sunday dinners with them, they were hysterical!
Family, Friends and Football...that's what Cam is all about until he happens to see Trixie (aka) Lana across the room.
This is one of those books that I read and kept thinking "how in the world is this ever going to work out for these two?", the story has a few twists that I often thought would be unable to be overcome but the ingenious writing duo of Max Monroe came to save the day.
Now...onto Leo's story that I am sure will be a lot of fun too! Great installment to the Maverick's Series.
I received an ARC of this book from the authors in exchange for an honest review.
Okay, so I giggled. No spoilers, this happens legitimately in the VERY beginning of the book... But, a NFL-football player meets a stripper in a bar... sounds like a punchline to a funny joke, right? Or a funny book...
We know Max Monroe, they do it all. Rom-com, angst, hot and naughty... and now that their real identities are out in the open, we know that they are pros in other arenas as well. This book kind of rides the middle of the road. It is a rom-com, sorta. More contemporary fiction with humor, I'd classify it as really, d/t a bit of angst and the hot and naughty in there too. Potato, po-tah-toe. It's a well-written, quick read. And, this is book 3 in the Mavericks series, a collection of interconnected standalones, that someone would have no problem picking up this book as the first one and following along. You have to suspend a bit of believability, but that's part of the fun.
I enjoyed this book, and I loved the accompanying Spotify playlist that I will hang onto and listen to far into the future. Because great music never gets old. 4 stars.
Cam and Trixie (not her real name) meet in a strip club, and she is a stripper.
But, a stripper isn't really a great match for a NFL player, and one who spends time on the news, in the spotlight, and in the public eye.
Try telling this to Cam. Trixie tries, and really doesn't get far, as his attraction to her is one that he doesn't want to fight.
Max Monroe either works for me, or they don't. I enjoyed this one. Although, it is a bit hard to review as there are some spoilers of some major plot points that you need to give away to really write much about this title. So, I am going to leave this as saying that I enjoyed it.
Sigh. I enjoyed this story at the beginning (and partly in the middle as well) but the more I read the more I felt like Max Monroe didn't know how to end this book in exciting way—And of course it had to be exciting! *eyeroll*—so they decided that ending would be sufficient. But to me, it looked like one last puzzle piece that just wouldn't freaking fit into its place.
I loved this! It had a different feel and tone for a Max Monroe book and I totally love this route the authors have taken. There's still the fun side but it also had a serious tone. I wasn't too happy with the previous book, Pick Six, but this one reaffirmed my belief in Max Monroe. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
