I read a fair amount of novels when I was young, a habit that did not continue to adulthood. As a result never got hooked on authors like Michael Crichton, and John Grisham, like some others. In fact I haven't read a single book by the former author, and have only read one book by the latter author, a concised version of his novel 'The Firm', around the time its movie was shown here in local cinemas in Sri Lanka. Other than for a few of Paulo Coelho's and James Redfield's works, that are of a different genre, though fiction, I didnt purposely sought novels of particular authors to read as an adult, or even a young adult, except perhaps for a few trashy novels about promiscuous women each often named after the lead woman's name, by the author Jilly Cooper, like Octavia and Emily, that I unexpectedly found in the shelves of a local library where I grew up during my early years of life.
Therefore novels I have read of authors catering to adult readers were limited to a handful. Those too, are books I have come across by accident, and include a couple romances by Danielle Steel, and this book 'The Elephant Song' by Wilbur Smith, if I'm to quote a few notable ones.
I think the list also include one of Sydney Sheldon's novels, a trilogy, if I can remember right, about a young female lawyer who gets entangled in a mob of Italian Mafia to the degree that she eventually actually falls in love with the Mafia boss and even conceive a child from him, taking her life in a trajectory that she neither expected nor was ready for, especially given her lover was an upcoming politician in the US with great prospects. She loses him and what a life with him could have offered her, simply because of naively obliging to carry out a minor favour for a stranger who happens to linked to a Mafia net.
Wilbur Smith though was not as popular as Crichton or Grisham (at least he wasn't with me) I noticed have written a series of books, which seems to be of a particular genre, similar to the works of the other two - Crichton and Grisham.
I can't remember all the details of this story but it was woven around the illegal poaching of elephants and connected illegal ivory trade in Africa.
The gruesome nature of certain events that the author used in this book weaving his story, I thought though may have been appealing to certain audiences, would not occur in reality.
Only to be realized not only how wrong I have been after more than 15 years since I read this novel, but also to learn that such gruesome things were purposely done to me, my family, and others connected to us, particularly females, that I had come to contact and have had some romantic or sexual inclinations towards, throughout my life, to sabotage any possible relationships between us and particularly in one instance to sabotage me from having children with one such girl, by surgically severing the internal os of her uterine cervix by a surgeon at a tubes ligation procedure she had undergone, in order to not only to make it impossible for her to have any more babies but also to have any satisfying fullfiling orgasm during sex. That is just one of a series of such acts carried out, and the perpertrators seem to have links not just with illegal ivory smugglers but also with drug and human traffickers, that includes traffickers of women and childen for sex work.
All criminals it appear are united at a certain level and act in unison to safe guard their common interests, preventing justice from being prevalent is one. I've heard that truth is stranger than fiction but never thought it would be this strange.
Stranger things I believe will continue to happen in the absence of a political will that wants to crush these criminals and establish rule of law, and other conditions that are conducive to have a dignified life on this planet, in order to sustain the human civilization in a meaniful way, in the 21st century, before we make life multiplanetary.
What is more disturbing to learn is these were done with the authority, instructions, guidance, and help of the most powerful intelligence alliance of the world known as "Five Eyes", that consists of the intelligence services of the countries of the so called Anglosphere - namely the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand; and the two Churches, the Roman Catholic Church, and the Chuch of England.
The reasons for targetting us in this way seem complex and varied but at the root of all reasons the primary motive behind carrying out such atrocious acts against us had been the fact that we are Buddhists, dark skinned, and speak a language called Sinhalese that is indegenous and limited to the island nation of Sri Lanka, but with the potential of becoming one of the wealthiest families in the world due to certain qualities, skills, and talent that we possessed. Sri Lanka is a former British colony in the Indian Ocean, just south of Indian Peninsula, whose intelligence service, the Research and Analysis Wing or RAW, too has quite positively and enthusiastically contributed and done their part to harass us and sabotage our lives in this manner, and continue to do so even today.
