A writer all her adult life, Virginia McCullough has had the opportunity to write the stories of her heart in her novels, including Girl in the Spotlight, the first book in her Two Moon Bay series for Harlequin Heartwarming. (Book 2 is scheduled for release in January 2018). Her award-winning romance and women’s fiction titles include The Jacks of Her Heart, Amber Light, Greta’s Grace, The Chapels on the Hill, and Island Healing.

Born and raised in Chicago, Virginia has been lucky enough to develop her writing career in many locations, including the coast of Maine, the mountains of North Carolina, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and currently, Northeast Wisconsin. She started her career in nonfiction, first writing articles and then books as a ghostwriter and coauthor. She’s written more than 100 books for physicians, business owners, professional speakers and many others with information to share or a story to tell.

Virginia’s books feature characters who could be your neighbors and friends. They come in all ages and struggle with everyday life issues in small-town environments that almost always include water—oceans, lakes, or rivers. The mother of two grown children, you’ll find Virginia with her nose a book, walking on trails or her neighborhood street, or she may be packing her bag to take off for her next adventure. And she’s always working on another story about hope, healing, and second chances.

Getting past tragedy and grief is a hard thing to do. It becomes harder when children are involved and the parent has to be there for their child. both Jerrod and Dawn know what grief feels like. They know loss and bottle their emotions inside. They also both have amazing children who pull the book along in some instances.

Virginia McCullough does a wonderful job at describing the emotions of the characters. She makes them very believable and personable. It was easy to get to know them and like them. I enjoyed that she doesn't rush her story, she moves it along at a great pace. This made it easier to connect with the characters and become invested in their story.

This is a great story about overcoming and learning to open oneself to possibilities. It's a journey that I am grateful I was able to take part in. The book is clean!

Something to Treasure by Virginia McCullough is sweet, sincere and romantic with an engaging cast of characters and a quaint small town.

The love story between Jerrod and Dawn is swoonworthy, true, but it’s much more dimensional than that. For one thing, they are slightly older than a ‘typical’ romance novel; both at or near 40. They also both have children from previous marriages – Dawn’s teenage son Gordon and Jerrod’s adorable five-year-old Carrie. And while their stories are different (Dawn’s husband left her for another woman, while Jerrod’s wife died) they both carry the burden of loss and single-parenthood. This means that a romance between them has many more considerations than that of a pair of twenty-somethings. These added layers really give the book depth and authenticity.

Bottom Line: Something to Treasure by Virginia McCullough is a compelling story of loss and discovery. And I’m not just talking about the discoveries Jerrod makes in his diving excursions. Rather, I mean the discovery of friendship, belonging, and home … as well as renewal. Layered characters and an emotional plot make this a book you can sink your heart into, just like its predecessor Girl in the Spotlight, and I’m already eager for more books set in Two Moon Bay!

Something to Treasure is the first book I have read by Virginia McCullough. I love this beautiful and well written story. I felt a connection to Dawn right from the start. I understood her feelings and what she had gone through in her life. I admired her strength and "nothing is going to get me down" personality. I was not sure about Jarrod at first but that quickly changed as I got to know him.

I thought Something to Treasure is a great book. The story is true to life, heartwarming and inspiring. I enjoyed spending my time with Dawn and Jarrod. I love their chemistry and did not want to tell them goodbye at the end. I am so happy to be introduced to Virginia McCullough's work. This definitely will not be the last one I read. I look forward to reading more from her in the future.

I give Something to Treasure 5+ stars.

I received this book from the publisher. This review is 100 percent my own honest opinion.

Something to Treasure by Virginia McCullough is something special. This book is heartfelt and inspiring. Jerrod has a history that can make it hard to move on and overcome tings in life. People all react to grief differently. Dawn has been broken and beaten down by life but refuses to give up on happily ever after. She knows what she wants and what she deserves. She will get in one day.

Mixing a family can be hard but when members of that family already adore one another it could be easier if those involved didn't wallow in self pity. Jarrod and Dawn both have reasons to stay clear of wanna another and work with one another. I loved every minute of watching these two find the way past the attraction to each other. I have to say this was visit to Two Moon Bay that I just adored.

Like the first book in the series, this story is awash with big emotions. I’ve also noticed that the author has a remarkable flair for writing young characters: they’re engaging and age-appropriate, not tiny adults. I really appreciate that our hero and heroine are more mature with a wide variety of life experiences. But these two characters are just so stubborn. Jerrod and Dawn are adorable together but there were several times I wanted to smack their heads together to knock some sense into them. I especially loved the messages in this story about family ties, forgiveness, and starting over.

Lovely emotional development, unique area of interest (diving and the shipwrecks of Lake Michigan). This is an ideal Heartwarming: characters really dealing with their emotions, and a romance embedded in the entirety of their lives (family, friends, community, passions, careers). This is a slowburn in a good way, in that each new flicker lights up the next emotional step that they didn't think they were capable of. I enjoyed this a lot.

A season of love

I loved this trip to Door County, a place of special memories for me. Ms. McCullough brought me back there. I love her writing, filled with sights and smells that awaken the senses. And Dawn and Jerrod are a couple who can withstand the hardships because they know love and trust make life worth living..

Detailed though it was, chunks of the book read like an instructional manual or promotional brochure on PR/diving.
