I have recently become a massive fan of poetry and this did not disappoint on any level. This collection contained many of my favourite poems and some poems that are sure to become favourites! As an English literature student I throughly enjoyed looking at these poems in a critics light as well as a pleasure read. I have discovered some poets whose works I wish to delve into further and look forward to that immensely! I am sure this will be a book that I come back to; poetry is very special in that respect: you can read it forever and discover more than you did before. Poetry is one of the most beautiful forms of art to exist.
Great collection of poetry Some really well known poetry that is very popular. Others I've never heard of. Some of the highlights: -A word to husbands - Ogden Nash -The listeners - Walter De La More -Far over the misty mountains cold - Tolkien -The Lamplighter - Stevenson -The Pig - Roald Dahl -Dis Poetry - Zephaniah -Still I rise - Maya Angelou
One that I was surprised to find was Kenneth Grahame - The Song of Mr Toad (this reminded me of a monty python adaption and this is the song they use - never ever knew it was an actual poem)

Loved this book as I already love poetry and find it relaxing as it focuses on your senses and the small things within life. This book has a great selection of old , new and classic poems . Plus well known poems too, the ones I’ve wanted to read and heard of but never knew what they were . The poems also cover most topics too which was great, to be able to read poems on lots of various topics which I wouldn’t have usually read
A nice bright hardcover, classic poems. It's just a simple collection, with poems grouped by subject. Sampson brings together these poems but doesn't add anything of value in her short introductions to each section.
There were poems that I enjoyed more, such as poems written by Tennyson, Brönte, Wendy Cope, Matthew Arnold or Byron, and others that I didn't enjoy as much; some were fine, some were ridiculous. A few funny lines here and there. But overall, I suppose a 3 stars rating is fair.
