The Worst #2

Cea mai trăsnită noapte ever

Rate this book

Dave Barry is a humor writer. For 25 years he was a syndicated columnist whose work appeared in more than 500 newspapers in the United States and abroad. In 1988 he won the Pulitzer Prize for Commentary. Many people are still trying to figure out how this happened.
Dave has also written many books, virtually none of which contain useful information. Two of his books were used as the basis for the CBS TV sitcom "Dave's World," in which Harry Anderson played a much taller version of Dave.
Dave plays lead guitar in a literary rock band called the Rock Bottom Remainders, whose other members include Stephen King, Amy Tan, Ridley Pearson and Mitch Albom. They are not musically skilled, but they are extremely loud. Dave has also made many TV appearances, including one on the David Letterman show where he proved that it is possible to set fire to a pair of men's underpants with a Barbie doll.
In his spare time, Dave is a candidate for president of the United States. If elected, his highest priority will be to seek the death penalty for whoever is responsible for making Americans install low-flow toilets.
Dave lives in Miami, Florida, with his wife, Michelle, a sportswriter. He has a son, Rob, and a daughter, Sophie, neither of whom thinks he's funny.

Delicios de amuzantă. Poate că este puerilă și stilul ar putea să fie îmbunătățit, dar am râs cu lacrimi.

A cute book. I read the uncorrected advance proof of this book, but imagine that the published book will be much like this when it comes out in April. This book is a follow up to "The Worst Class Trip Ever". I did not read the first one, and it did not impact much in reading this one. Dave Barry makes references back to the first book to give us an orientation. Wyatt and his best friend Matt are now in high school. They are not part of the popular group, but are bullied by them - especially the Bevin brothers. One day, Matt decides to bring his pet ferret to school. The Bevin brothers take the ferret, and Wyatt and Matt come up with a plan to get him back. This leads to more discoveries, including a bigger plot by the Bevins and their father.

Dave Barry is one seriously funny guy. I laughed all the way through the two adult books of his that I read. I'm happy that he has continued with that same sense of humor in his middle grade books, but, with you know, funny kid stuff, not funny adult stuff.

I found the first book in this series, The Worst Class Trip Ever to be an extremely enjoyable read. I loved how the action started pretty much right at the beginning and never let up. It was quite the wild ride from beginning to end, and one that I had a great time riding along on. This second book in the series (and I really hope there's more) follows the same format as before. Main character Wyatt is basically just minding his own business when best friend Matt does something not very bright that ends up getting Wyatt in trouble. But just like before, it's a good thing that Matt got them into this mess because without it they wouldn't have discovered a very bad situation that could/would have dire consequences if not stopped in time. So it really turns out to be a blessing in disguise, since Wyatt and his friends are the only ones who understand what's going on or how serious the situation has become. They realize that once again, they are the only ones who can save the day (or actually night) since all the adults are completely clueless and seem to have cotton candy for brains. My 14 year old inner child had great fun with this book and I think actual middle school students will definitely enjoy it also.

Perfect read with your favorite 10-12 year old in the upcoming week. This humor filled, somewhat serious story, takes place on Halloween night - and those adventures lead to The Worst Night Ever.

I listened to The Worst Class Trip Ever at the end of last year and it was a very pleasant surprise. I was able to listen to The Worst Night Ever which is the second book in the series. Wyatt and his friends are back for another adventure and this time they are in their freshman year of high school. Wyatt’s friend Matt decides to bring his pet ferret Frank to school, which leads them on a crazy series of events. They stumble upon a dangerous secret involving the family of the biggest bullies of the school.

Worst Night Ever was enjoyable, but there was not as much magic to it that Worst Class Trip had. The beginning dragged for me, and it all just seemed too silly. Even though they are in high school now, Wyatt and friends still came off as middle schoolers. Maybe this is just ‘boy mentality’/ lack of maturity. Everything dealing with Frank the ferret just did not work for me, though it all led up to Wyatt’s discovery. When it got to the ‘dangerous secret’ I became interested in the story.

These stories are not believable at all (in a good way); this would be enjoyed by and appropriate for middle schoolers, especially boys. The narrator Todd Haberkorn portrays Wyatt perfectly. I would like to see what adventure Wyatt and his friends find themselves in next. I can’t see any adventure being better than the first.

The Worst Night Ever is recommended.

The theme of this book is, in life you have to take risks. In "The Worst Night Ever", Wyatt Palmer's best friend Matt Diaz brought his pet ferret to school(Matt Diaz is known for being dumb). When the Bevin Brother's who are the most popular kids in the school get their hands on Matt's ferret and they decide they are going to feed it to their pet snake. Now Wyatt and Matt are planning to sneak into the Bevin Brother's huge mansion and save the ferret. And there's one rule at school that no one should break, is that you don't mess with the Bevins.

Part 2 of The Worst Class Trip Ever! Pretty cool. This one was not as funny, and was a little scarier, but not too bad. I didn't like a few things. A few remarks made me uncomfortable. One time "p*sssed" was said. But still had an interesting plot line and great action. Matt is my favorite character for some reason. And it was cool how Taylor was in this one!

Thank you, Dave Barry, for delivering yet another fantastic, laugh-out-loud read aloud book for my class. We have had so much fun reading about Wyatt and his adventures. The kids hung on every word and cheered when it was over! Great book!

Title: The Worst Night Everworstev

Author: Dave Barry (website:http://www.davebarry.com/)

Pages: 256

Publication Date: April 26th, 2016

Goodread's Summary:

Last year, Wyatt Palmer was the hero of middle school, having foiled a plot against the president of the United States. But now he and his friends are in Coral Cove High School-home of the Fighting Conchs-and Wyatt is no longer a hero: He's just another undersized freshman, hoping to fit in, or at least not be unpopular. Things start to go wrong when Matt Diaz, who is Wyatt's best friend but also unfortunately an idiot, decides to bring his pet ferret, Frank, to school. Through an unfortunate series of events Frank ends up in the hands of the Bevin brothers, who are the most popular boys at Coral Cove High, but are also, as Matt soon discovers, the nastiest. When Wyatt and Matt try to get Frank back, they concoct a plan to attend a party for the cool clique at the Bevin's waterfront mansion and stumble onto the Bevin family's dark and deadly secret. That's when Wyatt learns that some things are worse than being unpopular in high school. MUCH worse.

My Summary:

Only an idiot would bring a ferret it to school, unfortunately for Wyatt Palmer, his best friend is an idiot. Since Wyatt and his best friend Matt are freshmen, the safest thing they can do is fly under the radar, but bringing a ferret to school just so happens to draw a lot of attention. In fact, it will even draw the attention of the school's meanest seniors. Somewhere between letting one girl hold it and it getting tossed back and forth like a football, the ferret decides to attack one of those two mean seniors. The Bevin brothers, also known as the mean upperclassmen, take Matt's ferret, Frank, and tell Wyatt and Matt that they need to test it for diseases. Although Wyatt and Matt try desperately to get Frank back, they eventually come to the conclusion that in order to get him back they may have to take some serious risks. In other words, they decide to break into the Bevin brother's house and rescue Frank. While they're attempting to save Frank from harsh handling, they find out that the Bevin's may have some pretty dangerous secrets. As they begin to investigate, they find out that there may be a much more sinister plot afoot than they could have ever imagined.

My Review:

This book was awesome! I loved the humor and suspense and am hoping for a sequel sometime soon. This book didn't have too many problems and was fairly clean. There was a small level of violence, such as a road star going through Wyatt's sneaker and causing his foot to bleed profusely and a man intentionally being killed by a poisonous snake bite. There isn't anything inappropriate except for the fact that some girls are mentioned as hotties. Lastly, as far as language goes the H-word was used once and Ohmigod was used twice. Other than these minor faults, this book was great read.

Title: The Worst Night Ever
Author: Dave Berry
Date Reviewed: October 1st, 2018
Genre: Fiction
"The Worst Night Ever" by Dave Berry was about a boy named Wyatt going into his first day of high school. Before going into high school Wyatt was on the news and famous for saving the president, but by the time he was in high school the hype had died. Now Wyatt was back to his regular old self and was very nervous about high school. Wyatt goes to Coral Cove High School, the principal has the nickname of the stinger because she could supposedly detect trouble from a mile away. And of course, Wyatt got a detention on the first day of school. This was because Wyatt met the Bevin Brothers which were the iconic "cool kids" from every story. They started throwing around Wyatt's best friend's ferret. Once they stopped throwing the ferret, somehow Wyatt got a detention and no one else. Throughout the story, you learn more about the Bevin Brothers and Wyatt's high school experience. Basically, The Bevin Brothers take the ferret and Wyatt needs to get it back, but in the mists of all that Wyatt and Matt figure out some bad things about the Bevin brothers. One thing that Wyatt thinks is that the Bevin family is using animal trafficking business to make money. Wyatt thinks this because he saw a Komodo dragon in their yard. Basically, the story entails the adventure of Wyatt, Matt, His sister and another man trying to expose the Bevins for all the wrong they have done. I did not really enjoy this book because it was very boring. The first book is very good, but this one was a little disappointing in my opinion.

!SPOILER ALERT!
The book "The Worst Night Ever" by: Dave Barry is in modern time in Miami, Florida. Wyatt is a freshman at Coral Cove High School. Wyatt is brave, stubborn and a hero. He also has a friend named Matt (who is an idiot), and Matt brought his pet ferret, Frank, to school and the mean Bevin Brothers took Frank and was going to feed it to their pet snake. Wyatt and Matt decided to go over to the Bevins' house and steal Frank back. When Wyatt was leaving he saw that the Bevins' owned illegal animals. They escaped with the ferret and made it home safely. They tried to report it to the police but that made everything worse. Then one of the Bevins set up a Wyatt to look like he robbed his Apple Watch which made Wyatt get ground for a very long time. Then Wyatt told his friend Victor to fly over the Bevin house with his drone to see what he could find but the Bevins shot it down. Later Wyatt and his sister Taylor met Jon, he was a agent at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and he knew about what the Bevins were doing. Later they went out to stop the Bevins who were going to release these dangerous animals at the zoo during halloween. They did end up stopping the Bevins but Wyatt had to get stitches on his foot because he stepped on a road spike.
I would rate this book 4 stars because it was really good, and I liked how the Bevin got attacked by these wild African ants, because they got what they deserved. It was not the best book that I ever read though, however it was definitely better than the first book, "The Worst Class Trip Ever".

I love this book so much! It all started with Frank the Ferret. When the Bevin Brothers took him home, it's up to Matt, Wyatt, and Victor to get him back. On the journey over to the bevin residence, they notice a Komodo dragon. It's illegal to own one. When they try to tell the police about it, they get counter attacked by Frank Bevin himself. They go through many troubles and find out many secrets during this journey! Read the book to find out what happens! i definitely recommend this book 10/10!

In the book The Worst Night Ever by Dave Barry, a 9th grade boy named Wyatt Palmer, who was last year’s middle school hero run into the high school “heroes”. The Bevins are the popular high school brothers Nick and Troy, who are also bullies. The Bevin's take Matt’s ferret to their house to feed it to their snake Roxy. Matt who is deeply in love with his ferret get his friends to plan a mission to sneak into the Bevins household. The mission goes very smoothly with Victor watching over them. They break in and sneak through to get to Frank the ferret. During the mission as they were escaping, men were hauling this large crate from the dock. To their surprise what was in the box was not what they imagined. It turns out that there are a lot of things that are worse than the Bevins being the popular high school bullies, a lot worse! Author, Dave Barry, shows with Wyatt that you need to never stop trying to achieve your goals even if you’ve fallen or didn’t achieve them the first time to only work harder. The Worst Night Ever will appeal to people who enjoy action, adventure, and mystery. Barry will bring readers deep into the book with eye-opening twists and turns to keep the reader interested.

The name of the book is The Worst Night Ever by Dave Barry. This book was about a kid named Wyatt Palmer. In the book Wyatt and his friends Matt and Victor are on a mission to get back Matt's ferret named Frank. It all started when Matt brought Frank to Coral Cove high school in Miami, Florida. Matt let a girl look at the ferret and then it turned bad. Did they save Frank from the Bevin brothers snake or was it too late.In the middle of the book a secrecy agent taps on Wyatt's window in the middle of the night. The agent's name was John and he had the same problem that Wyatt had. They all had that same problem so can Wyatt,Matt,Victor and John worked together to solve that problem.

I liked that the book had one main idea and then it blended into another main idea. The book is also a good length that is 250 pages. What surprised me was that once you read a book like this you will not have to stop reading it. there are some things that I would like to change the length of some of the events.

I would rate this book five stars because it is gives alot of details about what is happening. This is a great book if you like to read fiction.

Dave Barry was my Fav author for many years. I have almost ALL of his books, which are mostly collections of his articles written for the Miami Herald and magazines. He's a very funny man! He's also a very good writer. Recently he has been co-authoring novels with his friend Ridley Pearson. He's also written several alone, and this is one of them.
It's classic YA writing, aimed at the 15 year old. It's an easy 2 day read at most, and the characters and plot line are clever and full of surprises. It was surprisingly compelling too, and avoided many cliches, and pulled me along steadily until I just had to finish it. I had a smile on my face !
A book like this is all for fun. The messages and symbolic meanings are universal and positive. "King Dork" was much funnier and " The Female of the Species" was more dangerous with its message of it being o k to take justice into your own hands. This was more along the lines of right conquers evil and family and friends in the end will always be there to help. Yes, it was a tad smarmy, but in the best way!

The Worst Night Ever by Dave Barry is funny and action packed. In this story, Wyatt's friend brings his ferret to school. During recess, the ferret bites a classmate and the ferret is stolen. Wyatt and his friends encounter poisonous animals, mean people, and other unfortunate events to get the ferret back. A weakness is that the book did not keep me wondering, there were always subtle clues as to what was going to happen next. A strength is that the book was funny. The interaction between characters, and the way this book was written make it interesting and humorous. I like this book, it was funny and I like funny books more than anything. I liked the first one, The Worst Class Trip Ever, more because that one had more thrill, and you learned to love Wyatt. In this book, Wyatt can be mean to his friends.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I like how even though at the start of the book Taylor seems to be this really annoying sister, but in the end, ends up being a little bit of a hero by helping to save the animals kept by the bevin brothers and their dad. I remember thinking that the main plot of the story was just saving matt's ferret, but I am glad that they added a bit of a plot twist so the book wasn't so bland and boring with nothing else. I did like the transition that the author used though, from saving the ferret to saving the dangerous animals. I liked the part when they did have to save the animals to because I felt that there was a lot of suspense that made me want to keep on reading this book. so overall I would say that this book is a nice, easy, and funny book to read.

After reading the first book in this series, you think I would have been prepared for this one, but no. There is so much crazy in this book.

It was an interesting read and I liked seeing how the characters handled the situations they were in, it was just too much for me. The villains had a really kind of horrible plan, and it was hard for me to see how anyone, even a villain would think that it was a good idea.

I do really think that this would make a great screenplay. It seems to have a cinematic element to it that makes it enjoyable, it's just not one I will be picking up again.

I actually read this book before I read the first in the series, but I was pleasantly surprised by its engaging nature. The first few chapters made me think it would be a traditional small-guy-versus-the-big-bullies book, but then the plot took a fascinating (albeit absurd) turn, and I was hooked. Barry has a comical, light-hearted writing style that makes it easy to keep reading, and I found that I accidentally finished the book in a day. I was actually disappointed that it was over! As strange as this book became, I would recommend it to the right kind of friend.

Personally, i was looking for something funny in the book and i did not get it. The author wrote the book well but i guess i did not get the funny parts. You should also probably read the first book so that you actually have some background history of the characters(i did not read the first book so i guess im a little confused). The book has a great plot(that i hopefully dont spoil) and the book is pretty realistic.

“Worst Night Ever,” By Dave Barry is a fun book with a couple flaws. One of the best parts is that there is always comedy. The book also incorporates action in to the comedy parts which gives it a great storyline. One of the flaws is that the beggining of the storyline was quite over the top, but that leads to the whole action packed storey! The book was predictable from halfway to the end, but otherwise, this book was great.

What a hilarious book. I did not read the first one, but that's okay, I didn't seem to need to. I can totally relate to Wyatt; he has angered the jocks and now he has to deal with it. The extremes that he goes to help his friend are admirable, if only a little far fetched. I found this book to be a rollicking good time. Suitable for middle grade and up.

This was my daughter's pick on audio for a recent family road trip, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Had the plot line of a typical Disney tween movie. Under dog kids hanging out accidentally overhear an evil plot. Police and parents won't believe them, so they have to save the day themselves. Good summer read.

Follows similar format to 8th grade trip, but I didn’t laugh as much. Worst Night has more conflicts and moments tension among the characters. Readers do not need to read 8th grade trip to understand story. Wyatt is faced with being framed and then needing to solve the problem of deadly creatures being set free to harm people. The Bevin Boys will go to any length to keep their family secrets.

I love these ‘the worst’ books by Dave Barry. This was a quick and easy read... but very enjoyable! I want my kids to be friends with Wyatt Palmer. Not really good friends so that they get in trouble, but I’d love to hear more of these stories! The author does an amazing job of helping you get to know his characters and hoping for them to grow up and be amazing adults!

Better than the first in my opinion. It was a little more realistic and had a lot of unique ideas. It featured animals and had some problems that made me frustrated at the situation. I felt like this book, though it was still a little far fetched, had some great ideas.

I read this to see if it was appropriate for my Junior high library. It is. I was kind of disappointed. I usually like Dave Barry, that's why I read it, but this book was kind of, dorky. I know it has 4 stars.....good for Dave, I just have this thing about adults writing as kids and not sounding like kids. Some of it was fine, some of it not so much. I have an aversion when things are called the "something thingy" by an author trying to talk like a kid. I'll never find them in the book, but lets take a turn signal for example. It might be called, the turn lever thingy. I just think a 14 year old would know what a turn signal is, and whatever it was in the book, a 14 year would know what that is too, and if he didn't, well, I can honestly say, I've never heard kids use the word "thingy". Maybe they say that where Mr. Barry lives. The story as a whole was bit far fetched as well, but it kind of kept my interest as I wondered how they would take care of the situation. I'm glad I read it, it was kind of fun just not as fun as I hoped. Maybe I just set my Dave Barry standard a bit high. Sorry Dave.
