Isabel Jordan writes because it’s the only profession that allows her to express her natural sarcasm and not be fired. She is a paranormal and contemporary romance author. Isabel lives in the US with her husband, her son son, a neurotic Shepherd mix and a ginormous Great Dane mix named Jerkface. (Don't feel bad for Jerkface. He really is a jerk.)
The weird:
Now that the normal stuff is out of the way, here’s some weird-but-true facts that would never come up in polite conversation. Isabel Jordan:
1. Is terrified of butterflies (don’t judge…it’s a real phobia called lepidopterophobia) 2. Is a lover of all things ironic (hence the butterfly on the first edition cover of Semi-Charmed) 3. Is obsessed with Supernatural, Game of Thrones, and Dog Whisperer. 4. Hates coffee. Drinks a Diet Mountain Dew every morning. 5. Will argue to the death that Pretty in Pink ended all wrong. (Seriously, she ends up with the guy who was embarrassed to be seen with her and not the nice guy who loved her all along? That would never fly in the world of romance novels.) 6. Would eat Mexican food every day, if given the choice. 7. Reads two books a week in varied genres. 8. Refers to her Kindle as “the precious”. 9. Thinks puppy breath is one of the best smells in the world. 10. Is a social media idgit. (Her husband had to explain to her last week what the point of Twitter was. She’s still a little fuzzy on what Instagram and Pinterest do.) 11. Kicks ass at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. 12. Stole her tagline idea from her son. Her tagline idea was, “Never wrong, not quite right.” She liked her son’s idea better. 13. Breaks one vacuum cleaner a year because she ignores standard maintenance procedures (Really, you’re supposed to empty the canister every time you vacuum? Does that seem excessive to anyone else?) 14. Is still mad at the WB network for cancelling Angel in 2004. 15. Can’t find her way from her bed to her bathroom without her glasses, but refused eye surgery, even when someone else offered to pay. (They lost her at “eye flap”. Seriously, look it up. Scary stuff.)
Great paranormal romance with lots of humor. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and all the characters. The repeat theme of love and trust was strong in each book and yet presented uniquely for each romance. My favorite heroine was Harper (head loon of the crazy cast), with books 1, 2 (in that order) being my favorites of the five book set. Loved the snarky dialogue and witty banter. Good action, plot and storyline. I enjoyed the books so much, I can see reading them again when I want laugh or pick me up. I will be adding Isabel to my continued author read list.
The best books have characters you feel for and would like to know. These books deliver and then some. We feel for Harper and all her friends and associates as the twists and turns of working in a paranormal P.I. agency makes for a fun read.
It is hard to OVERSTATE how fantastic and entertaining this series is!!!! I loved all five books in this book set and have since read the other two novellas that follow! The characters in these stories are fascinating, intriguing, and so likeable!!!! The humor is laugh out loud funny and very witty. I love a book where you are just reading along and all of a sudden you find yourself laughing out loud because you have come across an unexpected sentence, etc., that tickles your funny bone so much that you are loudly laughing like crazy!!! The inventiveness and imaginative descriptions of how all of the different characters interact with the world we think of as "normal" is engrossing and absolutely intriguing!!! The love stories of the various couples are so sexy, riveting, and heartwarming. I love Alpha males who know who they want and boy is this book filled with them.... plus I also love kick butt women who hold their own in every situation!!!! These books are as close to perfection as an author can get and I can't wait for the next books to come out featuring these amazing and wonderfully fascinating friends and warriors!!! I highly recommend this series it is awesome!!!!!!
I loved this series (mostly) and the characters. I gave it 4 stars since I didn't really get invested in the main characters of book 5, but the rest are all 5 star. The dialog is truly snarky and hilarious. Harper and Benny are a hoot together. Each book has appearances by all the characters but the story in each one centers around a different person. I loved books 1 - 4 but I guess I ran out of steam by book 5. I just didn't care about Vi and Nik. I did read it though, just to get the parts with Harper, Riddick, and Benny. That made the last book OK. I'd love to read more of these characters but am afraid this was the end of the series.
I love everything paranormal and this series didn't disappoint. it had everything psychics, vampires, shifters , empath and new breed I was enthralled from the moment I started the first book. I loved it and couldn't stop reading . These books had everything in spades. Quirky heroes and heroines, fun banter , romance , action , drama and I loved it all couldn't get enough I really hope it gets adopted as a tv series cause it would be really good to watch. Harper is definitely a hoot . I will definitely be reading more of this author as I loved her sense of humor in the previous 2 books I read and now I'm gonna read the novellas that follow up this series.
Book 1 in this series got a 3* rating from me, but the rest get a 4. Looking forward to reading the #5.5 novella.
This is primarily a paranormal romance series. Book 1 reads like Buffy-esque fan-fic, but it's well written and the series quickly becomes her own. Harper is a fantastic & hilarious character who I think you'll love. A small amount of hand-waving to the plots, lovely word play, and some juvenile humor. Much snark to be had. :)
PS - Harper is much loved by her crew, but may be just a little insane. And definitely a badass; can't forget that.
This series is phenomenally well written. The chatscters all come alive as you read, and it feels like you have been pulled into their chaotic, and unique world. There are both heroes and heroines, as well as extended family to love and cheer for throughout. I couldn't pit it down. I hated getting phone calls and text which pulled me out of the temporary world of Harper, Riddick, Seven, Mischa, Hunter, Vi and Alex! You gotta read this. Vampires, werewolves and Dhampyres, Oh my!
Isabel Jordan is a new author for me and I thank the book gods I found her! This series delivers on laughs and emotional connections between family and friends. So many times in a series you'll have weak books that don't hold up to the goodness of the others but not in this one. Every single book is a winner.
This was good but it was kind of the same story told for the five times. Big hunky Superman type falls for very capable woman. They both experience love at first sight then second guess the hell out of each other while some evil doer tries to muck it up by kidnapping the girl. I liked it but for the fifth time, it was predictable.
Plenty of snark, action and romance. Editing is not perfect (quotation marks are clearly someone’s Waterloo), and it’s a little creepy that all four couples have the exact same sex scene, right down to the same lines. Really though, those are my only issues. A great pandemic distraction.
Fun to read. Paranormal investigator. You have a seer, a few dhampyres, vampires, a werewolf, a halfer. Good cast of characters as they go through their adventures to find love. The story themes were a bit repetitive and sometimes a bit too snarky but overall fun. A little like True Blood in that it’s present day and vampires are ‘out of the coffin’.
I really enjoyed this series! The characters were fun, and even though there was a little repetition from book to book, the stories were interesting and made me want to read the next book. I would love more of Harper Hall Investigators!
I loved this series and I usually don’t say that about many paranormal book series. But I absolutely loved it. It’s just not about the suspense or the romance. I loved that is was funny too. I wish this could be make into a tv show or something. Also can’t wait until the spin-off series comes out.
This was hilarious from start to finish and the romance was just the right amount of steamy without being crass or boring. I will definitely be stalking *ahem* following this author for more.
I loved getting to know all of these characters and their many quirks. These books were packed with action, sarcasm, hilarity and so much, fan your face, steam. Can’t wait to read more from this author!
What an interesting and fun group of people. Everyone has a little different powers and strengths but the blend and mix together and create and interesting group and there story is unique and interesting. I recommend this series.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who loves Urban Fantasy, or just loves good stories . With well developed characters, s good story line, lots of snark, funny situations and dialog this series is great!
These characters are fun and hysterical. I enjoyed reading their stories so much. I’m glad that I have a novella in the series to read next because I definitely want to see what happens to all of them next.
Fun, fast paced, paranormal romance / action adventure. Strong women, alpha males, vampires, werewolves, psychics and shrinks. Love, family, friendship and bad guys. Oh, and the snark is strong in this one, love that!
Loved this series! Entertaining, gripping, fell in love with all the characters. At times, Harper’s tough -guy routine was a little over the top, but not enough to detract from each book. Highly recommend this series!
So as much as I wanted to give this series a higher rating, I just couldn’t in the end. The title does have the word Investigations in it. I expected more action/suspense. It has its snarky moments and is very readable. But it just missed that cherry on top of the sundae.
I'm surprised I enjoyed it so much. Not what I expected. Curious plots, laugh out loud moments, and great characters had me hooked from beginning to end. The queen of this series is Harper. Lordy, she is a riot! Kind of sad when I finished the series. Definitely one I will re-read again.
This series is great from the very beginning through to the end. Fast paced with a wonderful cast of characters. Lots of snark and hilarity. Perfect blend of dark action as well as zany comedy.
Harper is a major inappropriate wonderful Seer who can take down baddies with her words and impressive fighting skills. Noah Riddick is a natural vampire slayer who helps Harper save a child and is smitten.
Totally enjoyed all 5 books. The women are all crazy in a good way. The men are all hot. The combination just sets it all on fire. I did some serious giggling.
I usually don't give a 5star rating, this series deserves it and more. Join the action packed storyline of how each of the characters meet and became a couple.
