I will go off-mission. For her.

I am a cyborg. Half human, half machine.

My creator optimized me until I was exactly what he wanted. I have turned into an elite bounty hunter. My orders are simple. Anyone who endangers the certain survival of the human race is my prey.

The word failure is not part of my vocabulary.
Compassion is nothing more than a phrase.
My mechanical heart does not recognize feelings.

Until an assignment leads me straight to Mara. My creator’s beautiful daughter.

To her, cyborgs are nothing more than henchmen who quietly take care of anything that humans shy away from. When my eyes catch hers, I feel an unexplainable connection. Mara awakens something in me that I can neither hunt, nor kill.

*She* becomes my prey.
The most impossible bounty hunt of my life.

* * * This Cyborg Alpha Romance Novel is intended for mature audiences only.

Betania Breed reading order:

The Captive
The Prey
The Human
The Dragon

Sometimes I still shake my head at myself! Me and sci-fi?

“Never,” I would have said, just a few years ago! I am much too caught up in the here and now for that. When I think about how big the universe is, and how small we all seem in comparison, I feel nothing but awe. In my writing, my passion goes to the creatures who live at the edge of our world. Aliens, werewolves, panther shifters, vampires - all of them fascinate me. That’s why I try, with the help of my keyboard, to breathe a life into them.

Great Cyborg story!

The following ratings are out of 5:

Narration Type: Solo Narration

Mara and Johar - Mara is daughter to Dr. Ruthiel, who did the genetic experiments on Zeyliv and his people. She is a doctor in her own right and lives to make her father proud. Johar is a Cyborg and Mara hates Cyborgs, though she appreciates that Johar was well made and is an impressive member of his kind. Though half-humans as they are derogatorily called, are looked upon as not as good as humans or genetically enhanced humans.

Dr. Ruthiel tells Mara and Johar (who is the best bounty hunter in the galaxy) that they need to go after Cassie from The Captive whom they know is with Khazaar who may be dangerous since he is a Qua’Hathri. They want Cassie since she is pregnant with twins (on is Khazaar’s and one Zeyliv’s).

Mara is interested in making humans stronger so they are not seen throughout the galaxy as weak and easy marks, like they were when the Sethari conquered Earth Before the Qua’Hathri freed Earth in exchange for women. Mara thinks her father is working within legal guidelines, but she feels that something is wrong with the assignment her father gave her.

Mara is not very likable at the beginning of the book. She is definitely prejudiced against cyborgs and sees them less like people and more like robots. She is also a bit too eager to please her father and not too worried about what they are doing to human beings at the research center. She thinks all his experiments were done on people that volunteered for them in order to be released from prison and that those who escaped did so due to aggression issues that were a result of the experiments, not that they were mistreated in any way.

This book was also narrated via solo narration and narrated by Justine Eyre who is a veteran narrator and I like her style. She does a great job and this story was interesting. Mara and Johar pose as smugglers and lovers. There are a bunch of secrets that Mara is not aware of that come out in the telling of this one.

Nothing but heartbreak.

This book and it's predecessor are well written romantic tragedies. Everything good in these stories ends badly. Not the lovers in this or the first book ended well. I know that some people like tragedies but for me they are painful. I read to feel better for awhile and these books are sad and depressing. I don't think I will continue reading the series because the characters fail over and over until everything falls apart leaving the reader with no hope of happiness for any of them.

This is the second book of the Betania Breed series. Jenny Foster brings this world to life and keeps you at the end of your seat. The characters are wonderful and the story strong.
On a side note, you don't have to read the first one to understand what is going on here. But if you are like me, I have some OCD and have to read it. So enjoy both books. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review

This is the 2nd book in the series but I can say you don't have to read the 1st one to keep up with what's going on. The action happens in the same world and since there is no problem getting the grasp of things quickly, I think it safes to say this could be a stand-alone inside a series. Although I would recommend reading The Captive, even after finishing this book because it's Cassie's story.

The cyborgs in this book are very interesting in my opinion but what's more interesting is how a man can become so into the scientific experiments that every trace of humanity could be taken away from him. In all seriousness, that part gave the book a dark feel to it that I was expecting but didn't enjoy as much. It helped to keep the reader guessing but I did not like Mara's father.

The author Jenny Foster has a vivid imagination when it comes to her characters and what's going on around them. The story ends in a way that's a little frustrating for me but at the same time, I want to have the next book at hand already. So I must say it was a good move in my opinion.

Each character was well crafted, with a good background and even though the story could be considered fast paced, it was done in a way that does not present problems while reading it. The twists and turns, with the suspense, keeps you reading until the end with no problem.

I would recommend this book to those that like cyborgs, crazy scientists, opening the eyes of a character to reality and out of space romance.

Mara Ruthiel and her father, Dr. Ruthiel, are scientists on a space lab, now Mara's father has a mission he wants her to go on. She and a cyborg, Johar are to find a woman, Cassie Burnett, who is mated to two men and is carrying twins, one baby from each father, and Mara's father wants them brought back to his lab, even the fathers if possible. While on the trip to Betania, Mara and Johara are posing as lover and they became very close. Mara catches a virus and started to have very disturbing dreams, about her father and his lab, she also fighting her feeling for Johar, finding them very confusing and not sure what they mean. When her father demand she returns to the mother ship for further test on her virus, that is when she learns she too is a cyborg and her father has been experimenting on her too. Now the only person she can trust is Johar, her cyborg, her lover, not even her father, her creator, the scientists who she thought was saving mankind.
This is going to be a very good read series, by this first book, I can't wait to start read it. It was well written, interesting and unique characters.

Johar and Mara have a different take on the world that was introduced with The Captive. I enjoyed delving in to this world with new characters and more in depth views of the world created around the Betania Breed. I have to say it was nice to get to see Khazaar and Cassie. For new comers to the series it was not necessary to have read book one of the series to follow this read. Things seem to be revving up for the Cyborgs and mates. I did not quite anticipate the twist that occurred but they were accepted.

I read this book not realising it was book.2. In this series. However what you don’t know doesn’t hurt you, There was no part that made me feel that I was missing information that was essential to the storyline...Now regarding this book, I thought it was great. The authors imagination was faultless and creative, in fact I want my own cyborg!! You are engaged from the word go, until the very suspenseful cliffhanger ending... This storyline transports you easily into another world which is made to feel real by the authors talent of creating realism in emotions and places. The main characters are strong, stubborn, mysterious, deceitful, but with an undercurrent of insecurities that make you want to know more about them in the present, past and future. The storyline is fast paced with many twists and turns that keeps you guessing all the way through, keeping it exciting and it’s fresh originality thrumming through your mind....I can’t wait to see where this series goes, if you like a mix of sc-if, mystery, fantasy, with an underlying of a is there or isn’t there? Then I most definitely recommend giving this great book a chance

The writing is dull and plodding. Ostensibly, FMC dislikes MMC for being a cyborg, but in reality she goes along with everything MMC says without complaint or even good reasoning. She complains in her internal monologue and then just accepts it anyway. Their disguise on this planet makes no sense. The amount of backstory on their target means that you cannot just pick this up as a standalone, you have to remember what happened in book 1. The fact that FMC was chosen for this mission makes no sense. The comma use is criminal.

A cyborg had been created with an all-important mission – he is an elite bounty hunter whose job it is to track down and eliminate anyone who endangers the survival of the human race. He allows nothing to get in his way, not even compassion. But when he meets his creator’s daughter, Mara, there is a connection and his mission changes. This second book continues the suspenseful story.

Despite being an adult with a doctor’s degree, Mara is her father’s assistant and has to drop everything when he summons her to the lab. They are working aboard their space ship to make humans resistant to chemical weapons. Living in a space ship keeps their top secret work safe, while the permanent lab on Earth is just bait to draw out enemies or spies. As she enters her father’s lab, Mara sees a cyborg in a loin cloth, his back to her while her father completes his examination. He sends the cyborg to get dressed and tells his daughter he has a mission for her and Johar, the cyborg. She intensely dislikes cyborgs and doesn’t want to work with him, but asks what he needs her to do. Their mission is to find Cassie Burnett, a human pregnant with two DNA modified babies, each from a different father. But why? What is Mara’s father up to now? How far will his ambition drive him?

We see how Mara’s father is so lost to his scientific work that he has no compassion for anything and only values how he can use it to move his visions forward. Mara, who felt herself superior to just about everyone around her, is given a chance to realize that cyborgs are not unfeeling, mechanical units, but have emotions and their humanity remains a part of them. This is a fascinating journey of growth and awareness. There is so much going on in this book! The story line is excellent, the character development is key. This is a book you won’t want to miss! Well written, it will captivate the reader and make the reader eagerly anticipate what comes next!

Unfortunately, my hopes diminished a bit more in this book. I was excited because I'm a sucker for romances, and I love when there are family and babies involved in the future of two characters – and I got what I was after. And right when I did, I also didn't.

Ugh I just so dislike when books are too short to do the author's writing and story justice? There was not very much depth, again, though I feel there was maybe more than in the first book but only because we were following characters who were non-human most of the time but also weren't outer-space alien (except for Shazul, he was pretty cool I guess - also NB that his name is the only one I remember of the characters because I reckon I like him the most?) Cyborgs are also a bit more familiar for us, so there is less backstory needed for them because the formula about writing for them is pretty much always the same (unlike creating new species of aliens!) and this is where the development of characters comes into play, where it was easier to understand the half-machine-half-human characters than it was to understand a whole other species. I keep coming back around to this should have been longer spiel, but really it would have benefited so much.

PNR tropes galore, again, which I usually love too but I think with everything else weighing on me my view on everything else is skewed in that direction that every other little thing I didn't like could have been solved by fixing the one main thing I disliked. Which I suppose is true in some cases, but not all – I really would have just liked more development, to make the storyline seem less shallow so that I would stop skim reading whole sections. (Fun fact that I read a whole scene and didn't understand how the actions of the characters worked because I just wasn't taking any of the words in. I reread it like seven times until I finally got that the scene had changed somehow?)

These tropes, again, also meant that I was predicting a heap of stuff before it happened. And just, it wasn't as enjoyable. I think I enjoyed the story in this book to book one.

Anyway, I guess it's the same as the first book. It's not something I would reread, but it has potential and I'm just disappointed it didn't fully meet that potential. Recommended if you enjoy enemies-to-lovers tropes I suppose.

What a wonderful follow up to the first story in this series! I enjoyed seeing some of the same characters and how they affect the story moving forward. Mara is an assistant to her father and all his creations over the years. The man has created hybrids of humans and animal making cyborgs. Many believe that the cyborgs are not living beings and populates the planets with them. His prized cyborg is Johar and is the first one he created. He has been asked to go on a mission to find Cassie and her two unborn children for their unique DNA and he has to bring Mara with him. Mara does not care for the cyborgs but this journey will open her eyes to what she is really all about and how she will grow as proud partner for Johar. The most unexpected pregnancy has happened to Cassie and her father wants to learn and create others from it. There are two different fathers and both are individually special. One father is by Zeyliv, the King living on the planet Betania. He is killed and his wife, now Queen is not happy with it! The other father is a Qua'Hathri Warrior. He gets Cassie off Betania but will he be able to keep her safe? Will Mara with her eyes wide open with the knowledge she finds out on her journey with Johar keep everyone safe or will her crazy father out smart them all? I can not wait to read the next part of this series... I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Don't like cliff hangers too much.....

So, I have read the 1st and 2nd books. Enjoyed them, wanted more. When I got this book , I wasn't interested in the cyborgs so much , as I wanted to read more about Cassie and her babies. They only made an appearance in the last few chapters.
As to this book , Mara is the Scientists daughter. The one that takes people and animals and experiments and takes this DNA and puts it here, and there where it was never intended to be . Mara is his adopted daughter and is a scientist herself. Following in her fathers footsteps. She shares his excitement and enthusiasm for the scientific research that he has had a hand in . She also has picked up a few of his prejudices. One being that any being Not Human , is insignificant.
Johar is a bounty hunter Cyborg. He and Mara are tasked with finding Cassie and her twins. Together.
Mara , on some level , knows that he is more then able to do this retrieval alone.....so WHY is she there ?
What follows next is Mara's first ever adventure! How she and the Cyborg get into one situation after another , and deal with the consequences make for a fascinating and sometimes funny read . We are old friends and meet some new ones. I had wanted to read more about the people from book one , and I'm not entirely convinced that I should the next book will assuage my curiosity.

It was okay....until it wasn't. And that's a low bar, because "okay" was still "meh" but then it devolved into "WTF IS HAPPENING!?!?" Apparently, there is a previous books that sets up the story arc and recurring characters. Without saying anything too much let's just say *if I was* cheering for the characters in the first book, book two would have slapped me in the face. And then the preview of book three was somehow even worse. AND there's a BOOK FOUR!?!? absolutely not!! The plot is outrageous, helpless, and hopeless. There seems to be no winning or happiness to be found. And it ends on a cliffhanger, but book three preview kind of tells you how well that's going to go,and it doesn't seem to go well. So I will not be revisiting this world. I didn't enjoy it,and from the looks of it,I WON'T enjoy it,so I'm tapping out. My thoughts only. Feel free to read and form for own,but don't say you weren't warned.

Oh my! A wonderful story about cyborgs and humans. Mara is the daughter of the scientist who experiments on humans. He's made cyborgs as well as people with animal beings. For some odd reason he has decided that Mara should go on a reconnaissance with Johar the cyborg. Then he gives Johar as much authority in this adventure which seems to aggravate Mara. Their job is to find a human woman who is pregnant with twins. He is so concerned about this woman that he wants her found. The journey takes them to a planet where her and Johar visit a brothel to get information. Unfortunately Mara picks up a virus which leaves her disfigured. Then things turn not only worse but totally weird!!
Fantastic story which will keep you guessing as you go from one situation to another.

Book 2 but also stand alone

I like stand alone books that are part of a series but solid enough to hold its own story; so it is not mandatory to read the previous books to understand the events.

Although you do wonder about the previous characters, I do like the chronology of the characters. It’s like fast forwarding time.
The previous book characters and its content seems familiar to me. I may have read it. Sad about what happened to the characters but unless confirmed, their fates are unresolved.

Mara is the scientist’s daughter but she learns several truths as her father sends her on this mission with cyborg Johar. Other than more editing needed to be done on the overuse of punctuation and properly placed quotes, I enjoyed the fast paced and action of the story. Spoken from the viewpoint of Mara.

Second book of the Betania Breed series, the first was Captive. It's a standalone, but I would recommend to read book 1 first, so you catch up with the storie of Cassie.
This book is Mara and Johar story. Mara caught with a virus turning all her veins blue, had giving her the capabilities of mind-reading. Johar is a geneticlly modified cyborg/human man.
Cassie is pregnant with twins and supposed to be with two mates, one a Qua'Hathri warrior and the other a shifter from Betania.
Realistic about emotions and places, strong & stubborn characters, mysterious, deceitful, fast paced with many twists and turns, exciting.

I really enjoyed this book I usually don't read many cyborg novels. But this one sounded very interesting. And it was a unique tale of lovers finding themselves in unexpected ways Mara who thought she was human with a loving father turned out to be something else entirely. Johar is a half human a cyborg who is her father's creation whom Mara finds herself explicitly drawn to. They are sent to find Cassie for her father who wants Cassie's unborn twins. There is loads of action and adventure in this book. While I did find the ending less than satisfactory I feel sure that all these same characters will emerge in an upcoming novel. I just hope this writer does not keep us waiting too long for it.

A cyborg romance that will take you on a wild ride. The story is told by the view point of our heroine. She is a brilliant scientist but is forced to obey under her father’s rules. Her father is also a scientist that is a genius but unfortunately not for the good of innocent victims he operates on. We meet cyborgs and humans that have had their bodies merged with animals. All created by this one insane man. Through the story you won’t know who to trust and there are a lot of secrets within secrets. I can’t wait to read the rest of the series to see what will happen to all.

Mara is the daughter of doctor who does not realise that she herself is i a cyborg, Johar is a cyborg who works for the Doctor who does what ever he asked to do with no questions asked. Being a cyborg means he has not rights and can be easily switched off. Johar has feelings for Mara but he has kept them to himself as it is thought that cyborgs especially earlier models are not able to have emotions. Mara and Johar are sent on a mission to find Cassie who pregnant with 2 babies each conceived by 2 different fathers. Their story is romantic but also filled with suspence and lots of breath taking moments. Another well written book from Jenny i'm sure you will enjoy

Mara is sent on a mission with Cyborg Johar to find and bring back a woman carrying twins by different fathers. Mara is summoned by her father and told she will be going on a mission with Cyborg Johar. Their mission is to find and bring back a human woman who is carrying twins by different fathers. On the mission Mara finds a web of truth and lies the biggest of which is about herself but the greatest change is that between Johar and herself. A space adventure to curl up and enjoy.

The book has an evil scientist’s daughter finding out the ultimate betrayal by her “father.” She finds out, sh is truly a cyborg, one of his many creations she has been taught to disdain. This while chasing down one of her father’s many test subjects, with another cyborg. This leads the reader back to the characters of the first book, with a brief synopsis. The children from the first books characters are born, and then sent away. When the story books 1-4 are read together, it creates more of a rounded story. Maybe they should only be read together.

This is the second book in this series and there are a couple of characters that were in the first book but this can still be read as a stand alone. I really enjoy a book with a few surprises that I did not expect, it keeps me guessing. The character build was great and the relationships made thoughout the book was nicely written. The story flowed well and had me hooked from the first chapter.

This was the second book in this series and you really don't have to read the first book to follow. This book was really good. It kept you interested in the story. I was really surprise by a few things in the book. (I won't mention them as it will give away part of the story.) If you are into Sci-Fi books then this book is a good choice. The book did not end as I excepted into which I am not sure how I feel about that. Definitely can't wait until the next book to find out what happens.

Jenny Foster does an exellent job of creating an alien world and its characters. When Johar and Mara first meet they do not see eye to eye but that changes. This is a story about learning to love and not letting appearances stand in the way for your happiness. This is a fun, entertaining, and fast-paced story. With plenty of chemistry between the main characters this is a read that you can lose yourself in.

Excellent 2nd installment to the series! Lots of twists and great follow up from the original story. This was my first book with a main character being a cyborg. Gotta say- pretty cool! Action, adventure and some sexy scenes kept me reading into the night. I can’t wait to find out what happens next- Jenny does leave you with some pretty good bait for our future reads 😉 I received an arc for an honest review.

This is my first book by Jenny Foster. I enjoyed the plot and characters. I wish it had been from both points of view. The synopsis made me think it would be, so that was a disappointment. The story seemed to move slowly as well. I think if I had read book 1 first, maybe it wouldn't have seemed so slow...I just don't know. The book ends with an unusual twist that will make you need to read the next book in the series!

Oh my gosh, he is a super duper alpha "feeling-less" cyborg created by her father to be a bounty hunter, and that is how she sees him, until they become attracted without meaning to. This book is full of sifi action and suspense and I don't want to give away too much but let me just assure you that if you read it you won't regret it!

It's my first book from this author and I'm not sure what to make of it it had it's good moments but the science parts was a little bit difficult for me I love a story where the heroine knows that it's wrong what they're doing to the person's involve but she didn't so much had that reaction but overall I definitely love Johar even with his part machine he was just perfect.
