When this realm was created, three races were formed. Humans, jin, and angels. That’s all that Camila knows for certain in her life.
After her time traveler’s dial gets stuck she is forced to live the same day on repeat until she is saved by four handsome strangers. They aren’t human or angel, and they definitely aren’t part of the jin.
Camila’s life is flipped upside down when she follows them into another realm. Is it possible that more creatures exist? Are they all as sexy as the four that need her now?
Nikki Hunter is a mom and wife, but also a Friends nerd. When she’s not writing she spends her time binge watching Seven Brides for Seven Brothers while making her husband crazy.
This was my first time reading anything by Nikki Hunter so I didn’t know what to expect. Even though this book wasn’t long, it has my full attention and I will be stalking the author until I can get my hands on the next book in the series.
I thought I would do another bullet journal review since it was a novella.
What I Liked -I liked that there was an air of mystery about everything from the characters, the bond, and the world. -Camilla was a damn hoot. Even though we didn’t get much time with her, she was really funny. -I loved that Camilla owned her sexuality, she wasn’t ashamed of hardly anything. -I’m already in love some the guys. -It has insta love/lust and you I’m all about that! -Revere Harem, DUH!
What I didn’t..(not really didn’t like, just bothered me) -Since it was a novella, we didn’t get much time in the world. I would have loved to read a little bit more and get more world building. -It left me hanging right when secrets starting getting revealed.
Overall This was a good first novella in a series. I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us. Side note, this does end a cliffhanger. Yes I know, I flipped shit when there was no more, very cruel Nikki Hunter! I really want the second book after that ending.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
After reading "The Needed" by Nikki Hunter, I was torn on how to rate the book. There were aspects of this book that I loved, but I ended the book feeling underwhelmed.
The good: The author has a very creative idea and I love that the main character is a jin (or genie), a creature that isn't featured in many paranormal/fantasy stories. Camila is a confident character - secure in her role and her sexuality. She's definitely not a meek character, which I appreciated. The guys also all have their own strong personalities and tension between the characters is quickly built. They don't fall instantly and easily in love thank goodness. There's also an intriguing plot line involving a corrupt monarch which I'm interested to know more about. This story reminded me of the "Four Psychos" series in that we have a female MC connected to a group of guys who are suspicious and unappreciative of her appearance in their lives. I think fans of that series will enjoy "The Needed" as well.
The not-so-good: This book is a novella and I feel it really would have been better if it were longer. The story seemed to simultaneously include too much and too little information. We see Camila trapped, saved by four mysterious men, thrown into two dangerous fight situations, several conflict-ridden and sexually tense interactions with those mystery men, a new guy added, the future villain revealed, and a plot twist (which I had guessed pretty early on) revealed in a cliff-hanger ending in under 200 pages. I wanted the author to slow down and develop the relationships and plot more. I feel like I don't have a really great understanding of the guys besides their dominant personality traits; we get very little backstory on them so far. Also, while there is no insta-love, the connection between Camila and the guys is all physical attraction and mystical bonds. One last issue I had was around the world building. In this world, jin, angels, and humans are the known species on earth. It wasn't clear to me, however, if humans are aware of the presence of angels and jin. Also, while I could understand that Camila might not know what species the guys are, if they are from another world and have kept themselves secret from jin and angels, but how would the guys not know about jin and angels if they are staying on Earth?
I was so excited to read this book that I might have built it up too much in my head beforehand. While I wasn't as impressed as I hoped I would be, I will definitely still read the next book in the series. I think this series has a lot of potential and I want to see how the author moves forward with the story. I hope that in the next book, a deeper connection will be drawn between Camila and her guys so that the developing romance feels more believable and less "insta-lusty." I'd also like to learn a little more about this world in which some supernatural creatures are normal and others aren't.
Let's start with this is a novella or a serial; because it's just that short. This story could have easily been a four star for me. There was just certain plot points missing. It moved fast without a lot of information given. How did she end up in the clock? Why did the clock stop? What in the world did she cut off of her wrist and why? How many damn mates is she going to have because so far every single fae she has met has been a mate or mate potential meaning she had some sort of connection that wasn't able to be explored... because of death. Will they have the same desire to be with her if she's in her original form? Now while I would absolutely love to continue this series with the premise being so good, I may have to pass if the world building and character development doesn't get a little better.
I absolutely loved this book, it was so captivating once I started reading I could not put it down! Camila is bloody hilarious and I had so many laugh out loud moments! I love all four of the guys but I have to admit that Yehven and Lance are my two favourites, maybe because they are the hardest for Camila to win over! We meet a fifth partner near the end of the book, but there is so much more to learn about all the guys and more about why Camila was locked I the clock! This story is full of intrigue, laughter, adventure and magic! It is a story that keeps the reader very interested and it is the type of book that you can easily sit down and absorb in one sitting. This is a highly recommended RH book and I can’t wait for book 2 to come out!!
So, I was going to give this a three because it was so short. Then I checked and realised it is listed as a novella so I can't knock a star off for that.
The story is good and I honestly think I would have been more invested of I hadn't read 4 psychos first which has a lot of similarities. I didn't rate it a five because I feel the story needed more detail and character building. The cliffhanger was a bit unnecessary and actually just the realisation at the end could have been a plot woven through the story rather than just said at the end. Overall a good starter book and I wouldn't have read it if I knew it was a novella because I prefer a longer story but I am glad I did. Not sure if I will read the next one, it will depend on how long it is.
I love how refreshing this book was! So quirky different and fresh! Camila, after being stuck in a clock for 2 years, is finally released & needed by someone, or several sexy someones. What she is needed for on the other hand, is something they need to figure out. You can't help but love her quirky confidence, and it seems neither can these men! I'm totally hooked and hanging out for the next book in this series!
Wow, this is an amazing story! Camila has been stuck in a clock for two years, an endless time loop of the same day. Until one day four mysteriously hot guys, step into the store her clock is in. One of the guys buys they clock and takes her home, she is finally released and that's when her fun begins. Loved story and read for book two!
This was a great book, Camila is a freaking awesome character! She’s so unapologetic for being her awesome self and the men are just angry and confused. Not to mention confusing, I’m excited to find out what is going on with them and figure out more about them. The Magic is rad, the story concept original and enthralling, the world building is great and the writing is really well done.
Really interesting and fresh concept. I like Camila. She is such a strong, fun, and cool character. I never knew what she would say or do. I liked the idea behind the Jin, humans, rebels, and fae. I really want to read book 2! Hopefully March come soon :)
Great quick book. Camila is hysterical! Kind of reminds me of the MC from Four Psychos. The storyline is fun. Fae are my favorite and I haven’t read many books with genies so that is fun. Then ending was a great set up for the next book.
I love Camila! She's funny, sexy and such a great main character. The only thing that would make this book better is if it was longer but it was really great and I'm excited to read more. 100% recommend
So wow! This was a quick read but it left me wanting more. It's a fantastic start to what I feel will be an amazing series. It was fun and sexy. Headed to purchase book 2 now. Major cliff hanger at the end lol
Nice, short and enjoyable. Great intro with a mix of characters. Not much humour but the sassy bold female MC is there. Favourite character was Kade in this one.
The story moves quickly but takes the time to set up the openings of the plot well. My biggest issue is that it's a serial and ends just as it begins to get really good.
This book was amazing from start to finish. One minute was I getting started and the next I was done and wanting more. Can't wait for more. Camilla is my new favorite MC.
