Who murdered witch, Henrietta Whitmore? And why?

Justice witch, Cassia Winter, is asked to investigate the murder of a witch in the town of Dingy Skipper. With her cat and familiar, Stanley, at her side, they head over to the dismal town where evil hides around every corner.

They are soon confronted with many suspects including a fairy who can’t help stealing things, a gnome who is unable to stop gossiping and an elf who lurks on street corners and watches everything that Cassia and Stanley do.

Before they can make a full investigation into the death of the witch, Cassia and Stanley are confronted by a clan of nasty vampires who make it clear the sleuthing duo are not welcome in Dingy Skipper. Despite being kidnapped, imprisoned and threatened, Cassia and Stanley persist with their latest case and refuse to stop until they unmask the killer.

April Fernsby lives in the north of England in a county called Yorkshire. Yorkshire has its fair share of hauntings and supernatural events, including a witch called Mary Bateman, aka The Yorkshire Witch, whose skeleton now hangs in a local museum.

April loves all things supernatural and mysterious. Her favourite book as a child was ‘The Faraway Tree’ as it took the reader into a different world where unusual creatures lived. April looked for a similar tree near her house but never found it.

Her Brimstone Witch series involves the main character, Cassia Winter, going through a cellar door and into another world where magical creatures live, and mysteries abound.

What a fun and great witchy mystery

This mystery was really unique! A strange town in the magical world, a witch is murdered and the justice witch has to go solve the crime. Cassie and her cat go but are kidnapped and brought back by vampires. This just makes them more determined to go back. There are elves, fairies, trolls, messenger butterflies, shape-shifters, and so much more. A fun read with a really good mystery that I couldn't figure out! Love the fantasy, the fun characters, and the plot. Great series!

I liked the author's other books and this one did not disappoint. Towards the end, I thought the villain might be the villain but began to second guess myself and think "no way is it _____". But it was! This was a light, enjoyable book. It did keep you guessing for quite awhile. Some of the spells were ingenious too. I read it in four hours and can't wait for the next one in the series to come out. If you're looking for an in-depth mystery, this isn't the book for you. As I stated it was a lighthearted book with easy to like characters but it wasn't "Gone With The Wind" or even close. But then every book doesn't have to be detailed and complex to be readable and enjoyable. :)

Kindle Unlimited, had 4 of the 4 of the set so far from freebies day {the latest is 4} but stopped to check for that when saw it was ku and that had just gotten 4 {but some things were 'off' so decided to go back to the beginning and through them all to give a fair shake} and ended up also finding The Leprechaun's Last Trick (A Brimstone Witch Mystery) which is also one from a freebie day, so really least could do is read/review them ALL. Missed #9 on freebie day, so now have them all but 9 singly and all three box sets AND the freebie day 1.5 as I call it {the Leprechaun one mentioned at bottom} AND #10 today. NOTE: the 3 sets START with #2 book, might try to find time to re-read them, there is something 'off' so only a 4 but want to pinpoint reason.

Vampires, a dead witch, and constant rain .. what a story!

Dingy Skipper is an unlawful town that Cassia and Stanley have been to before, but nothing can prepare her for the case she's about to undertake. With vampires terrorizing the residents and no one wanting to talk to her, how is she supposed to solve the murder? Well, the way she and Stanley always have. With grit and determination. Henrietta's death wasn't an accident, but a deliberate act by a devious person who wants his identity and underhanded ways kept secret. But as per their usual ways, Cassia and Stanley use everything at their disposal to uncover the culprit. But she puts herself, Stanley and Luca in danger in the process. This is a must-read, as this series just keeps getting better! Well, I'm on to the next adventure! Happy reading.

Too close to home

Great stuff. When another town asks for help because someone killed a witch there, she goes even though her Gran is dead against it. Shapesahifters, vampires and a town under seize greet her. How did the witch die? Who is the Elf that has hurt her boyfriend and is constantly stalking her? How can she gather enough evidence to charge the vampire's? A really terrific read that will definitely keep you guessing until the end. Whilst you will be cheering on the characters in their fight to let goodness into a town that has given up hope.

This was good.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Cassia is sent to a nearby town to investigate the murder of a witch. With plenty of suspects and a gang of vampires, the justice witch faces danger at every turn. The story and characters were intriguing and engaging. I look forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.

Ok, I have to admit this one was good. There is a trend with these books where there is a neutral one, then a bad one, then a great one, and then a neutral again. This one was good. It helped me recover from the previous fiasco. I loved how it clarified every possible plotwhole and explained it with great details - no place for doubts. Great character development, great new characters, great mystery, great resolution, great ending, simply great.

Keeps Getting Better

Wonderful reading. It has all the creatures a reader of paranormal/fantasy looks for in a great read. Holds the reader to the very end and makes you excited about and want to join in on Cassia and Stanley's next adventure.

Good of its kind

This is an excellent little mystery with lots of twists and turns and even I was surprised with its ending. You won't figure out who the killer is even though there are lots of clues!

A young person’s book

I enjoy cozy mysteries. I normally read a piece of fluff after reading a serious book. This book, however, seems to be aimed at young people and it should be Identified as such.

Very good and quite entertaining. Contained one of the best lines I've read recently: Stanley quickly looked left and right. “What’s wrong? Is the apartment on fire? Are we under attack by malicious beings? Have you run out of chocolate?”

While I wish I had read all the books leading up to this one, it was not necessary. A good whodunnit with plenty of suspects.

Great

First I am not the spoiler type reviewer. The book scenery is not in brimstone and many evil ‘people’ live there which makes for a sad town. Can Cassia turn it around?
