Cindy is dreading Mother’s Day and the arrival of her family to celebrate the holiday while getting to know Jeremiah. The last thing she needs with company coming is another mystery to solve. However, when an acquaintance is accused of murder and begs for her help, how can she refuse? She won’t be any good to anyone, though, if she ends up dead. Someone is killing off witnesses to a crime she helped solve, and she and Mark realize they are at the top of someone’s hit list. Jeremiah struggles to keep them both safe despite the fact that a mysterious figure is also stalking him. This is shaping up to be a family reunion to remember!
Debbie Viguié is the New York Times Bestselling author of more than three dozen novels including the Wicked series co-authored with Nancy Holder. In addition to her epic dark fantasy work Debbie also writes thrillers including The Psalm 23 Mysteries, the Kiss trilogy, and the Witch Hunt trilogy. Debbie also plays a recurring character on the audio drama, Doctor Geek’s Laboratory. When Debbie isn’t busy writing or acting she enjoys spending time with her husband, Scott, visiting theme parks.
I'm always up for another Psalm 23 mystery and A Table Before Me did not disappoint. The novel picks up exactly where the last one left off and plunges into a horrifying series of events. The tone of this installment reminded me a lot of the seventh installment, For His Name's Sake. As usual, I was unable to put this book down once I began. This book is another great example of why I love Debbie Viguie and her mystery writing skills. Excellent!
In A Table Before Me,#14 Psalm 23 Mysteries by Debbie Viguié, Cindy has just helped prove her boss from her last temporary job guilty of murder. Yet her connections and the ramifications of that case refuse to loosen their grasp on her. Jeremiah, Mark, and the whole gang get involved in trying to eradicate the continuing evil before it wipes them out. Lots of twists and turns and heart-pounding action within this Psalm 23 Mystery, my favorite amateur detective series.
Ms. Viguié always makes me smile, laugh, and bite my fingers as I anxiously skim the pages following Cindy's and Jeremiah's and friends' tumultuous adventures.
As is her trademark, Ms. Viguié leaves us hanging at the end, begging for the fleeting relief of the next novel. Bring it on!
While Mark is off chasing down leads to his former partner, Cindy and Jeremiah are once again in the middle of a crisis. A former co-worker has asked Cindy to clear his name of murder. Of course Cindy can't deny a request like that. The question is, is this Jeremiah's past catching up with him? Or do mysteries and trouble just tend to follow Cindy around constantly endangering her life? Add to the fact that people want someone in their circle dead, Cindy's parents and brother arrive for a visit.
Cindy's mother and brother are horrible people! Cindy is a much better daughter than I ever could be with the way she holds her tongue when her mother is so deliberately insulting and hurtful.
A Table Before Me is fast-paced and hard to put down! I enjoyed every moment of it and was caught up in the excitement and drama of every moment.
As with all of Debbie Viguie's books in this series, this one too ends on a cliffhanger that has this reader desperate for the next installment...NOW! While I agree that cliffhangers are a bit fun and leave the reader wanting more, there is also a sense of unfairness in keeping us in suspense for the next installment that usually happens only once a year or longer. I'm a bit torn, if the books were just churned out one after another would they be as good, or would the creativity it takes to write cause the storyline to suffer? I want to see the ending of Jeremiah and Cindy's story, but I also want it done well, soooooooo, it looks like I will have to resign myself to being patient, it looks like we have several more books to go and several more years to get there!
1) They ALWAYS end on a cliff hanger and I have to wait to read the next book. I'm thinking it would be better to wait until it's all done and then "binge" read like we do with TV shows when the season is over.
2) I admit that I am getting tired of how quickly the male characters in this book become angry. I understand there is a lot of pressure at times, but it as cool and calm as they are supposed to be, they have a lot of pent up emotions that can only cause problems. Even when they practice some self-discipline, the idea that the first thought is to kill, maim, do something wicked, is just wrong.
Maybe three. In this book Jeremiah admits to coming over and watching Cindy sleep. I understand he is concerned for her safety. I understand that they are in love and planning to get married. But that is just downright creepy. He doesn't live there, so he is coming into her home, unannounced and uninvited, while she sleeps and just watching her. No, that just isn't right.
I also don't understand the obsession that Mark has with Not-Paul. He keeps going rogue and getting into even more trouble.
This was more like a 2 1/2. I believe the author has written this series out in its entirety as if you were going to read it one right after another. However, this edition took a long time to come out in book format so it has been awhile since I read the previous one. You are thrown right in where the last book left off with no explanation and it was a bit of a struggle to remember what was going on. Also, the title has nothing to do with this particular book. However, that being said, this story continues to grab me and be very suspenseful and the characters are so interesting. I already have the next one as well and plan to read it soon so I don't forget the story line!
"You got shot!" "No, of course not." "Oh." "I got stabbed."
Most of these books have a clear link between the title and some aspect of the story. In this one, though, I don't see one.
I think that Mark should've put clear limits, or tried to, on Jeremiah a long time ago, because now he's out of hand. I have a hard time envisioning a police officer acting like Mark, but then again, he's crossed lines before. While Mark can't contain Jeremiah, he should've either distanced himself from him, or called in help.
Jeremiah fantasizes about murdering people for mere irritations. I think that's included to feel cool or exciting or dangerous, but it crosses so many lines, especially when Jeremiah has the abilities and training to carry them out, and has to struggle not to.
Even though those frustrations are not directed towards Cindy, that's a serious relationship red flag, too. At this point, though, Cindy just wants what she wants - Jeremiah - without considering much else.
One of the other reviewers, Anam Cara, explained these concerns better than I did, saying, "I admit that I am getting tired of how quickly the male characters in this book become angry. I think the author likes powerful men, whether it's physically, like Jeremiah, or financially, like Joseph. Or maybe the author likes dangerous men.
There is a lot of excitement in this book, but not much substance.
It is good that Jeremiah and Don have become family, and Don's gentleness with the whole situation.
I am glad that Wildeman has finally spoken about his brokenness. I think Jeremiah's advice to him was too abrupt, without considering other aspects. He may have eventually ended up there, but still...
Cindy is thrilled to be back at the church where she belongs and leave her unfortunate experience as a temp behind her. Nobody is more surprised than her when her former cubicle neighbour calls her, telling her he's been arrested for murder and she needs to get him off. When he tells her shes his only hope of being found innocent, she goes to hear his story, and when she learns that the murder took place at the bachelor party of her former boss, she becomes certain Leo is innocent. What are the odds that two men at the same party are both killers. When the witnesses connected to the Cartwright murder start getting murdered, Cindy becomes even more sure, but when her life is one of the ones under fire she starts to worry. On top of it all, her parents and brother are visiting under the guise of getting to know Jeremiah better and for mothers day, but she suspects their real motives are to break them up. If all of them can make it through mothers day alive, it will be a miracle. This book was once again well written, but in parts was a bit annoying because all the climaxes were at the end of chapters when I of course had to go to work. I realize that's how they plan it so that they get you hooked, but the biggest climax was the last page. Thankfully I don't have to wait for the next book as I already have it in my position.
Just getting better and better. Each book in the series helps one learn more about each character and makes one love each book more than the last one. Just wish they were published quicker! It’s really hard to wait for the next book to come out to find out what happens next!
Another edge-of-seat satisfying chapter to this series, ending with a cliffhanger... therefore, with no further ado, onto book #15! Such a GREAT mystery series! Thrilling, fun & always moving forward to unpredictable places!

This is book 14 of the series and picks up right where book 13 ended. I should have known better but I was hoping for things to quiet down in Pine Springs and for Jeremiah and Cindy to be able to start focusing planning their wedding and for Mark to be able to focus on the Paul case. Instead when the last case seems to be wrapped up another one begins, but is it really another case or is it just a continuation of the same case? There were so many twists and turns throughout trying to figure out who really was behind what is going on. Mark ends up enlisting Joseph to help him try to catch the killer, but has he ended up putting Joseph in harm’s way instead? Will they be able to stop the evil before it is too late? I especially felt for Cindy, in addition to being dragged into the case by an acquaintance, being shot at, and her home wrecked she has to deal with the horrible way her mom and brother treat her. Thankfully she has Jeremiah, her wonderful friends and her dad. Just when you think all is over though more twists come and we are left with a cliff hanger. How long must we wait for the next one. Maybe I need to read it again to see if I missed any clues to what might happen next.
The book seemed rushed as if the author has given up on the series and is only putting out one book/year just to placate those who pre-purchased the books. The length of the books keeps getting shorter and there is a lot of foreshadowing but it is unclear what direction the series is going. Her original timeline had the series finished by now, I get that real life gets in the way but maybe the author should not have started writing other series of books before she finished this one. It feels that she has lost interest in this one.
