She will go to great lengths to get justice…including risking her heart.
Denai Witch Charlie McCray’s life turns upside down when her enforcer teammates are massacred in a bust gone wrong. The grief and guilt so great, she struggles to continue her work without them. Getting justice is the key to her reclaiming her life and regaining her footing on the job, but to get that, she must employ her ability to speak with the dead.
The only clue as to what happened involves a mysterious orb with a deadly reputation. Everyone wants to get their hands on it. But all Charlie wants answers, she must rely on the dark and sexy demon from her past—the one who’s convinced she’s his life mate.
With nothing but tension between them, can they work together to root out the truth or will their undeniable connection create a distraction?
The Shadow Walker box set is a fast-paced urban fantasy that takes you on a rollercoaster ride. Book one involves the search for Charlie's team's murderer. Charlie also has a boyfriend that is decidedly not Drake. While not overshadowing of the plot, there is the triangle that Charlie must traverse while working on her case. One man is distracting enough but when feelings she tried to block for Drake begin to squeeze through the cracks in the wall around her heart where he is concerned, Charlie finds herself distracted by two as she tries to navigate through the crime she's trying hard to solve. Book two continues the saga as Charlie learns more about Drake, their bond, and her own family. Book three provides a solid conclusion to the story of Charlie and Drake, who they are apart, and who they become when they are together.
I really enjoyed Shadow Walker. Charlie is a likable protagonist who cares very much for the team she lost. She started off conflicted between Scott and Drake, both of whom she she cares for even if she denies the pull the Drake. The only issue I had with the triangle in book 1 is the treatment of Scott by Charlie after Drake waltzes back into her life. Charlie was a bit high schoolish instead of acting like an adult. In the end, Charlie will be forced to deal with her romantic life but be prepared to see more denial regarding Drake while she continues trying to truly figure out who and what she really wants. And that's okay. Relationships are tough, especially when you have two suitors.
Tiffany Shand wrote a hit box set with great character development and wonderful world building. The characters are personable and the descriptions used in the book were easy to visualize. I was excited to read the trilogy and couldn't put it down. I was engaged in Tiffany Shand's storytelling from the first book and it continued all the way the end. I enjoyed the dynamics between Charlie and Drake, as well as Charlie's interactions with other characters she meets. There are couple of revelations that are revealed that truly shocked me. This book is exciting, full of action, and is full of twists and turns. I highly recommend it to lovers of urban fantasy and paranormal romance.
If I mention anymore than this, I'll be revealing important plot points and spoilers so, please, just grab your copy of the box set on Amazon today!
Charlotte “Charlie” McCray is one of the good guys/women who can’t seem to catch a break. Drake is working with someone that really frustrates him. Charlie is a character that I could see having her own show on either on Freeform or on the syfy network. Charlie reminds me of Olivia Benson on Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. I could see the two of them being friends or even working together. You could see the two of them having things in common – especially when it comes to caring about people they work with. Drake is one that I will have to think on.
In the first book, I was back and forth whether or not I liked him and if he would be good for Charlie. This just shows how well the author is doing her job. Charlie needs someone like that in her life. He forces her to do things that she might not want to face. Our author is good about showing how hard relationships can be – especially for women who are lucky enough to have two men in their lives. For me that took a back seat because I wanted to follow them as they had things that they needed to solve – that’s where my love of Law and Order comes in. Drake was a good character because he kept me reading, in a way, because I wanted to find out if I would ever like him or if I would continue to go back and forth.
What I love about a boxed set is that I already have the three books of the trilogy all in one place. In a way it forces me to read the books in order. It’s a better way to follow the sequence of events as they were meant to be especially after Drake performs a disappearing act. Loved the secondary characters. They added a little extra energy to a scene instead of trying to put the focus on them. The great combination of our main characters with the interactions of the secondary characters is one reason that I felt it would be a perfect television series – and that feeling never changed. Then we have some lesser characters that I could almost hear that “evil” music play as their scenes would unfold. If you like the Shadowhunters (I’m talking tv show) than you would love this. I can’t wait to read this set again. And you may ask why I would read this set again? Sometimes we pick up on something that we may have missed or just didn’t see the first time around. Plus I just want my Charlie fix.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
>Book Review – Shadow Walker Box Set > This box set contains the books Shadow Walker, Shadow Spy and Shadow Sworn and ultimately ending in an HEA. These stories involve Drake, a demon and Charlie, his reluctant mate. Charlie is haunted by the death of her enforcer team. This reality has a multitude of paranormal beings. Charlie is not sure what she really is. Her powers keep evolving. She is afraid of Drake and his claim to being her mate. >The story is a mystery as to what Charlie is and a magical orb that everyone seems to want. A predominant theme running through all of the books is family. Charlie is reunited with a mother she never knew. Drake is hiding a secret from his brother. Charlie and Drake do realize they are meant to be together and really fight to survive. >I am a reviewer for Romance Authors that Rock. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 5 stars. The story was fast paced and romantic.
Fast-paced action from start to finish. Great to be able to read all three books together. Charlie and Drake are great characters, but circumstances are keeping them apart. Twists and turns along the way make this an exceptionally exciting series. I will be keeping my eye out for more books from this author in the future. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
