The novella prequel to the Wolf Lords of London series.
Elle Hathaway has spent most of her young life in fear of herself. At least the part of her that grows fangs and claws. With the help of a lycanthrope suppressant, she’s made it through puberty, university, even her first job without so much as a shift. Then one night, deep in the tunnels of the Underground, her life changes forever.
Detective Inspector Abelseth Durant is investigating the lethal mauling of an unknown victim in the Covent Garden tube station, and Ms. Elle Hathaway is a person of interest. Sensing her wolf nature, he is mystified by the lovely young woman, and when Elle is abducted by a rival pack, Abelseth realizes he is being pulled back into London’s wolfen underworld.

This was an interesting read, the cover caught my attention and the blurb held it.
Although this is a modern book at times it had a very historical feel to it and I had to remind myself on several occasions that I wasn't reading period book.
Wolves have been around for centuries but their bloodlines have become weak, too many made wolves and not enough pure blooded ones. The problem is the pure-blooded females have been hiding in pain sight taking a new drug that acts as a lycanthrope suppressant. With these drugs the females can resist the change for years and tame the inner beast. Meanwhile wolves are making females but there's no guarantee that any offspring would turn and if they do it's argued that the half-blooded cubs are physically weaker.
Things have gotten so bad the council has voted and now it's only pure-blooded mates—no more made females.
Things are getting desperate as all the wolf clans want to strengthen but to do this they need the rare pure-blooded females but they can't detect them while they're taking the suppressant.
Which brings us to Elle. She's run out of suppressant and even after just a day she's noticing the changes and she's not the only one.
Detective Inspector Abelseth Durant is assigned to the case of a mauling and his only witness is one Elle Hathaway a woman he finds himself incredibly attracted to.
Okay. That's all you're getting from me regarding the plot as for the book itself...
I really liked it, I liked the characters and the whole lycan world that's been created here. The wolves are fast and as well as shifting they can also drift and the pace is frantic. There's so much I liked here but my main problem was it's far too short and far too fast. Now the frantic pace is great for the drifting it gives a real feeling of urgency and speed but the rest of the book needed to slow down and fill up.
I'm certainly hoping this is the start of a new series it has the potential to be really good it just needs more. All the hard work is done it just needs padding out a bit.
I voluntarily read a review copy kindly provided by NetGalley and Weapenry Co-Op.
Wolf, Interrupted feels like a prequel. It's pretty short and while the romance wraps up within the book, you're left feeling that there is more to the story. It seems to have a series name, Wolf Lords of London, so I'm expecting more books. I AM hoping that the next books in the series are longer, because I felt like the romance would have benefited from some more time.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book that I have chosen to review.
Elle and Jullian were scheduled to work the most dangerous part of the Chelsea Physics Garden. Elle looked forward with this with a quiver of fear and a slightly elevated pulse rate. Time shifted for Elle and she was a child next to her father’s paralyzed body. Her mother’s cry as clear and heartbreaking as it had been eleven years ago. As head gardener Elle knew her father’s death hadn’t been an accident that he knew the difference between Aconitum and Delphinium. Then Jullian got attention back to the present. Then Jullian said “ you saw something”. Elle nodded and said “ In the Covent Garden Station last night. Jullian replied that was the second sighting in a week. Elle was a botanist as was Jullian but he was a new fellow to the Chelsea Physic Garden. There was a kindness in Jullian and Elle was drawn to that. Jullian and Elle hit it off immediately. They were already making plans to someday open a apothecary together. Aconitum Napellus- prince of death- the plant that had killed her father. Then Detective Inspector Durant CID showed up and asked for Elle then told her he was there about the mauling in the Underground the night before. The Detective wanted to discuss the report Elle had given and asked if there was somewhere they could go to talk Then Elle agreed to meet the Detective at 4 pm at the Cafe that was on the north end of the property. Abelseth who is the Detective was waiting for the train Elle had awoken the beast inside Abelseth. Then Abelseth’s cousin Phelan appeared to him from near the tunnel. Then Abelseth told Phelan that Maccoon had called a conclave and wanted Phelan. There. Phelan said it had been five years and he was out. Abelseth was no longer duty bound to his pack. Elle was sure she had seen a werewolf. Abelseth was sloppy, out of practice, had partial shifted showed a real loss of control and could have exposed him to the public. Abelseth was on the job less than a month and already he suspected one of the werewolf packs behind the mauling. An attack on a human was bold and unnerving. Maybe now was the time to see if Dermot Crowley to see if he had any preliminary thoughts. The man had died from the maul with several bites on him but he was wearing an expensive custom made suit. Elle was twenty five and and got tingles from the Detective , no man had ever made Elle feel that way before. The waitress Lucy had told Abelseth where she and Elel would be clubbing that night and he ended up there and ended up dancing/grinding with Elle. Then Abelseth kissed Elle. Elle ignited a seething feral arousal Abelseth wasn’t prepared for. Abelseth had thought Wolf Hunter when he had met Elle. But after tasting Elle in the kiss he knew Wolfen. Abelseth had heard stories of wolf blooded humans. Then as Abelseth, Lucy and Elle were leaving Elle was grabbed and abducted. Elle had a male pushing her on but he had someone with him. Then. Elle was sure they were in the Underground, Elle had tricked herself into believing she could live a normal life. But a day or two off lycanthrope suppressant and and they had found her. Then Abelseth showed up in the room Elle was being held in It took time to learn how to ride the currents of time-space. Newbies like Elle thought they were starved for oxygen even though they really weren’t. Abelseth brother - Maccoon had helped rescue Elle and Abelseth. Maccoon was the leader of the wolf pack - The Lords. Pelham showed up and said the wolves that had grabbed Elle were outlaws most of the packs really didn’t want them. Her mother had warned Elle for years that fully engaged werewolves had extraordinary abilities ; sensory and otherwise. Without her daily fix Elle’s senses were becoming more acute, as her dual nature emerged there would be other issues like strange lycanthrope powers. Abelseth. Uncle told Abelseth to get in his car. Abelseth hadn’t seen his uncle the Earl of Wessex in five years. yHe told Abelseth the man who had been mauled was Ignatius -Iggy- unknown chemist entrepreneur. Iggy was the man elle got her suppressant from that hid the wolfen part of Elle. I really enjoyed this book and it was a quick read. Although I felt it was a little rushed. But I still liked the story a lot. I wished there had been a longer ending also. But I loved Abelseth and Elle together. Then to find that Elle and Abelseth had actually been promised to each other since she had been born. Was a thrill. Definitely a different and unique werewolf story. I didn’t really care for Abelseth’s brother Maccoon. This kept my attention with no problem. And I didn’t want to put this down. I loved the characters and the ins and outs of this book and I recommend.
2.75 -3 stars. This was a rather strange book to me. This is Elle and Abelseth's story. Elle is a botanist and she happens to witness an attack at a train station, so she reports it to the police. The investigator is Abelseth. He is a wolf shifter and he can tell that Elle is keeping a secret They are attracted to each other, but they must quickly go on the run when rival packs attempt to kidnap Elle . Abelseth protects Elle along the way and they develop feelings for each other. They soon find that maybe fate had a hand in bringing them together for a reason.
This was a pretty quick and fast paced book. There is action and suspense. I liked the eerie, mysterious atmosphere the book provided. This was a different world built and different feeling than any other shifter book I have read. The book is set in London and I thought it felt very "Sherlock Holmes" inspired. I liked Elle and Abelseth as much as I knew them, but I felt like this book could have been longer so that we could have gotten to know them more. Also, I hate the name Abelseth (and his nickname Abby). It has to be one of the worst character names I've read.
The ending of this book was one of the oddest I've ever read. It was almost like this was an unfinished book. I was left with so many questions and unexplained plot threads. It was a shame, because I was enjoying the book until the ending. I really had no idea what to think. Overall, though, I did enjoy the book until the ending. I will need to think about whether I want to read more from this series in the future or not.
WOLF, INTERRUPTED is an imaginative paranormal story filled with creativity and very interesting characters. Taking place in London, a man hides his Were side and lives as a human. When a woman like himself crosses his path, their lives become unexpectedly entwined and results in big changes.
After someone is killed during a vicious attack in London’s underground train station, Abelseth Durant is the homicide detective sent to speak with an eyewitness named Elle Hathaway. He immediately recognizes her wolfen nature, as he has the same background. Though once part of a pack, he is now a lone wolf yet cannot keep from being attracted to the enticing female. When Elle is unexpectedly snatched by a wolf pack with a very bad reputation, Abelseth will use whatever measures he must to get her back.
A most colorful world has been constructed for the werewolves that Jillian Stone has envisioned living in London. They are dissimilar from any werewolves I have ever read, as their capabilities are unique along with their individualistic personalities. Elle and Abelseth are a delight every time they are featured, especially when talking about anything wolfen and their mating practices in particular. The setting is also vividly described using the proper London terminology, thus letting me get a genuine feel for the area. The originality in WOLF, INTERRUPTED keeps interest high from beginning to end. I am looking forward to more stories hopefully including these distinctive characters.
I voluntarily reviewed the book and all comments are my honest opinion - 4.5 Stars
I feel a sin coming on. So sex as a wolf is out of the question. Not…completely out of the question. Was Abelseth Durant friend or foe…or something else entirely? Holy crikey, mother of all mothers, there really was a rabbit hole! WOW!! Nothing and I mean NOTHING could interrupt me once I started this story! With her intriguingly unique style of storytelling, Jillian captured my interest, drawing me in right away. I will admit that the British-ness of it added another much loved aspect & deeper level of enhancement to it! The multifaceted but secretive characters, the wholly unique "magic" or abilities that the shifters have, the immediate & intense draw that Elle & Abelseth have towards each other and the way it escalates to an undeniable passion, the various Wolfen gangs, rules, hierarchy, the wolfen underworld, etc. all contributes to my captivation and fascination with Wolf, Interrupted! Rather than exploding to life, this story softly and beautifully blossoms all around me, taking the time to give the utmost attention & details to the most important parts, letting the rest bloom & fill in the rest of the picture. And what a picture it is!! WOW! color me impressed!! This is my first experience with Jillian's storytelling and will definitely NOT be the last! Now that I have had a taste I'm hooked! I need more - LOTS more - to even begin to satisfy my craving for this perfectly British storytelling in all of its wolf shifting glory!! Trust me enough to let me help you. We have a universe inside us to explore.
Jillian Stone is one of my favorites. I have read many of her books and enjoy the characters and worlds that she creates. Wolf, Interrupted is a great story about a young woman terrified of her inner wolf to the point that she’s gone to the extreme to suppress the beast. After a “dog” attack in the tube, Elle’s life changes forever in many ways. The introduction of Detective Inspector Durant is but one of those changes.
Wolf Interrupted is gripping and full of action. The story pulled me into its world with a strong heroine, protective hero, and interesting plot. I was engaged enjoyed every page. I was drawn into the world the author created and found it easy to visualize. The character interactions and dialogue were done wells. As a lover of all books paranormal, I’m glad I had to chance to read Wolf, Interrupted.
This one was tingling my tummy from excitement of a new to me author with the setting in a favorite place of mine. She captures me right away with Elle and what she does but the mystery lingers underneath with what she has seen. Abelseth or Abby at times is a delicious one himself that now will be like glue to her side thanks to the events that will unfold. Intriguing parts that were new to me in a paranormal was their mode of travel. Captivating secrets for the reason of sorts to the unrest but now she is on my tbr list for some more. She will burn you at the end leaving you saying hey can we have more of them two?
This was my first book by this author and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a quick read but packed full of action and attraction. Elle is a botanist who witnessed a werewolf attack that brought her to the attention of DI Abelseth Durant. Abelseth is a werewolf who left his legacy behind after some family drama but finds himself back in the thick of it once he questions Elle. The chemistry between the two is palpable and leads to him rescuing her several times as well as discovering and unlocking her own werewolf genes. The author includes an interesting take on werewolves and the history of England. Overall, if you like shifter stories you will enjoy this tale.
I received Wolf, Interrupted as a review copy from the author/publisher (via BookFunnel). The gifting did not determine the review/rating, which reflects my honest opinion. While the plot has a few holes and backstory blanks, I have to admit, I enjoyed the unusual storyline and the chemistry between the protagonists, Elle and Abelseth. Snarky and witty banter mixed with action and tension-filled scenes made this a win for me. Be prepared for some confusion with some sequences that feel choppy, but you'll love sticking with this one until the end.
Fast smooth read. Abelseth is detective investigating a mauling heard by a young lady named Elle, when they meet lives drastically change. The both realize that their lives are not what they have always seemed, but will they work together; be together and find happiness? This was a paranormal romance that was sexy, and enjoyable. Thank you NetGalley and Jillian Stone for allowing me to read this book in advance and write a honest review.
Not my regular genre because I tend to find them confusing and distracting. I was happy with this book though. There was not too much about the parts of these stories that I do not like and I enjoyed the rest of it. It was a quick read that I'm sure PNR fans would enjoy especially ones who like Wolves and shifting and trying to stop the change from happening.
This was something I wasn't sure I would like, but boy was I wrong! Once I started it I was hooked and couldn't stop reading!! I definitely recommend this book.
Great story, very engaging and sensual. Ms. Stone paints a compelling picture of Elle and Abby’s chance meeting and instant attraction. I there will be a book two.
Elle Hathaway is a woman running from who she is- a she wolf. Taking a suppressant to mask her wolf essence, she’s content working at the Chelsea Psychic Garden and hanging out with her friends. Her life changes forever when she witnesses a wolf attack a man in the subway.
Enter Detective Abelseth Durant who is investigating the man's murder. Durant turned his back on his family and all the drama they brought into his life. Now he's a detective with a tight grip on his wolf. Until he meets Ella. The more he's around her, the more his animal instincts come out. Then Ella is kidnapped by a group of men who use something called the drift-a current of dimensional energy that allows them to cross distances quickly and hides them from human eyes- and he slowly begins getting sucked back into his family's problems.
The chemistry between these two is hot. Once her suppressant starts to wear off, her scent brings out the wolf in him even more. (There is a club scene that had me a little overheated.) Her scent also catches the attention of other wolves which is where a lot of the action comes into play.
I would have like for her to explain a little what the drift was Abelseth mentioned it briefly in the beginning but I assumed she would explain it eventually so it didn't stop me from continuing to read. The action was fast paced and kept me reading until the end.
Oh, and when they finally do get together and she embraces her wolf? Wowzers. Did I mention how hot their chemistry was? Five stars for Jillian Stone's first novella in a series!
I really enjoyed this book! It's kind of hard to explain why I like it. I love the grabbing cover, the interesting and wonderful characters. I really like the two main characters Elle short for Luella Hathaway and Abby which is short for Abelseth what a mouthful for a name. Abby works for the police, and he's a shifter. It's shifter romance, but it's also a mystery. Elle's father was killed by poison, but he himself was an expert on poisonous plants. Elle too at the beginning of this story works in a Poison Garden where they cultivate and tend to the various plants. That part is fascinating to me. I don't want to give away too much, so I'll just say it's an entertaining and exciting read! Check it out, I know you'll enjoy it!
