Nanny and the Beast

Rate this book
Yuri

A year ago Yulia, my niece, lost both her parents. Two months ago she completely stopped speaking. Her psychiatrist thought a gentler presence around the house might be good for her. She suggested a nanny for the child. Naturally, I would do anything that would help her regain her happy childhood.

But I didn't expect the woman who stepped into my office. Yeah, she's got my attention, all right, but for all the wrong reasons. I sure as hell don't need this ripe fruit to distract me day and night in my own home.

I tell her she hasn't got the job, and watch her leave my study, but Fate has other plans. Resistance is futile.

April

He lives in a white mansion in London's Knightsbridge, a magnet for playboys and Russian billionaires.   Big, burly bodyguards look at me as if I've not come for a job interview, but to steal the family silver. Whatever. I maintain my professionalism, I'm determined to get this intriguing job of caring for the girl who refuses to speak. A prim woman leads me to his study. She knocks, and a deep, smooth voice beckons us to enter. The door opens and I set eyes on Yuri Volkov.

OMG.

His eyes are like a wolf's. Pitiless. Mesmerizing Dangerous. Obviously he Is drop dead wrong but, I can't stop imagining his big, tanned hands caressing every inch of me. After the briefest interview in the history of interviews he informs me I haven't got the job. As I walk away, humiliated, from his study, it happens. The unthinkable.

And I'm suddenly back in the game.

Georgia Le Carre has become one of my favorite authors and stories like this are the reason why.

April is on an interview for a nanny position. Yuri is her prospective boss and Russian gorgeousness. When he sees her he instantly wants her and kisses her on the spot then tells her that she doesn’t have the job. April is a sweet and efficient nanny who is caught off guard by her feelings for Yuri. Yuri is the Russian billionaire oligarch that cannot understand his fierce attraction to April.

This is not my favorite book by this author but I enjoyed it. It was a quicker read than normally. Very well written and the spice/smut was off the charts hot.

I had forgotten how much I enjoy this author’s work! With this book I immediately became hooked on the story, and the one that captured my attention first was Yulia... the little girl who hasn’t spoken in the last six months. Yuri is her Uncle, and he has taken his niece under his care after her parents were killed. He is looking for a Nanny for her, and he’s hoping that a Nanny can help Yulia to speak again!

April comes to the Russian mansion in hopes to gain employment as a Nanny. During her job interview with the devastatingly handsome Yuri, she fears that the attraction between the two will get in the way of her work... they both decide it isn’t going to work out, but the little girl has other plans when she begs April to stay. ( she does this by writing a note to April.. saying, “Don’t go.”)

From that point my heart had melted and I hooked! Another thing I loved about this story was the richness of Yuri and his home. Most books don’t have the kind of extravagance of Yuri’s mansion anymore. This story took me back to the classic romance where the wealthy hero actually has a mansion with all sorts of staff running the house hold! For what ever reason, I just find all that wealth so romantic in these fairytale-ish stories!!!

Definitely loved this read and I am eager to read more of this author’s stories right away!!

Let me explain, before you all judge me. I don’t usually read these types of books. Nanny and the Beast was just a book that was recommended to me. By my mum. And I loved it!

The book features April, who is a nanny by profession. She goes for an interview in a Russian billionaire’s house for the nanny position.

Yuri is a Russian billionaire who has a niece, Yulia, that hasn’t been speaking for a few months. When he sees April, he can’t resist her – which is why he doesn’t give her the job – it is too dangerous for her to stick around.

But when destiny takes matters in her own hands, and April end up being Yulia’s nanny, they have to find a way to leave their fierce erotic needs aside and focus on the little girl’s happiness.

With lust and danger coming from all sides, they are not prepared to settle for little.

I loved April. She is a kind girl and cared deeply about Yulia. She fears Yuri, but also can’t help but feel the attraction between them. She kept having second thoughts and getting ready to leave, and still stayed. She kept feeling humiliated, but remained to see if this love might work. April was also a very bad friend. I feel the need of mentioning this. While it was okay for her to call her friend any time, she always talked and never listened, even when her friend clearly wanted to talk. That is a no-no for me.

As for Yuri, I don’t think I liked him that much. Yes, I admired his possessiveness around April and how he cared about both April and Yulia. Everything about Yuri is so mysterious, so secret, and he is always on the edge. Which makes him wanted, I would assume. However, some of his actions and beliefs made me so angry I wanted to throw this book!

The emotional scene that intrigued me.

She was left by her mother as a child, because her mother didn’t have the money. While April grows up, her mother becomes very rich and famous. A secret part of Rachel hopes that her mother will come back for her. At one scene in the book, April and Yuri attend a dinner and April’s mother is there. When she sees her with Yuri, she whispers to April she is not good enough and tells her to stay off him, so her other daughter can be with him. And while the mother didn’t know April is her daughter, April did, and it hurt her badly.

Quite an emotional scene for April, realizing that her mother moved on, and has changed, and the reason she probably left her at the very beginning never had anything to do with her money.

I read this book in a day, so if you want a short hot steamy romance with a sexy Russian Alpha-male, you will definitely enjoy this. There are a few emotional roller coasters throughout the book. However, if you are looking for a deep book that will help you discover the meaning of life, I am sorry to disappoint you.

Secret note: If you have in mind books similar to this, I am open to recommendations.

Trigger warnings: Explicit sexual scenes, violence, murder and psychological trauma.

This was quite a stunner and despite of the slight title reference that would make you assume for this to be a bit naive and light read, you'd be mistaken- it's quite the opposite in tension, compulsion and passion...with a dominant powerful tall, dark & dangerous alpha, you can't do wrong😉

And Georgia, once again simply points you in the right direction, so you just relax and enjoy the ride...

I found myself really of enjoying this book early on.

I liked the idea of the cold ruthless handsome mafia boss and the innocent (okay not so much in this case) nanny. But it was Yulia that ultimately kept me reading. As 2am approached I found myself skimming the sex scenes and trying to find out what could possibly have made her go silent for so long.

In the end it was a disappointment. You could argue Yulia was just a means to an end. A way to get Yuri and April together and I shouldn’t have been so interested in her story. But I was.

Yulia’s parents have been killed. She used to adore her uncle Yuri but everything changed when he was away for a few days. When he returned she was terrified of him and no longer spoke.

This is a man who’s rich and powerful. The security around is home is incredible.

Am I being too picky?

Yes probably but...

No! No! No!!! It had so much promise! But there is absolutely nothing right about that first kiss, (even if in the book she says she liked it afterwards). So far I don't like either of the main characters. Him being good looking and rich does not make this OK, it makes it more wrong! Her accepting it and saying she liked it makes me dislike her more. It's far fetched and disempowering.
Is the author really a man? Someone who likes those playboy fantasy stories? The ones where some sexy young woman knocks at the door to deliver pizza, but delivers herself instead, and likes his stupid advances, so in his fantasy mind she goes home and tells her friends about how great and powerful he is.

This book felt like that to me.

I guarantee no woman who has suffered unwanted and unpermitted advances would find this OK. Was I reading the same book as everyone else?

The rest of the story line so far is ridiculous and unbelievable as well.
Most of his inner dialogue felt creepy and controlling to me.

Then the swimming pool, it just gets worse!

It felt wrong on so many levels. If you like strong female characters, and men who respect their love interest, keep looking for another book, you won't find it here.
P.S. I can't say I read all of this book, eventually I just skimmed through it, to get to the end.

April gets the job as the live-in nanny for Yuri's niece who lost her parents in a brutal murder that she sadly witnessed. She has not spoken a word since that day and Yuri does not understand why and she also seems highly afraid of him when before that day they were extremely close.

I obviously knew right away it's because she probably believed he was involved in her parent’s murder but to find out that she was manipulated by her granduncle who in reality was the one who killed them was a bit too obvious once he was introduced.

Yuri and April get together quickly and it's a push/pull situation where she knows she cannot continue working for him as he will get bored, and she will end up hurt.

Nothing extremely special about this story tbh, I enjoyed it, but I did find it a bit boring since the suspense was not really surprising.

April was also not a weak character, which was nice.

We see them in the epilogue married and pregnant.

Here is a book with a story that surprised me.
It may even seem like a repetition of the inspiration in the fairytale of Beauty and the Beast, but the plot' has some interesting features.

April works in a babysitting agency and is known as the Children's Enchantress. She will work for Yuri Volkov, a businessman who does not deny that part of his investment comes from the 'dark side of the force'.
He's been taking care of his niece, Yulia, since her parents died. His relationship with her was wonderful until about six months ago she simply stopped talking, communicating through a tablet.
As soon as Yuri interviews April, he is attracted to her and thinks it best not to hire her, but unfortunately Yulia arrives and is charmed by April. Yuri sees no alternative but to hire the nanny, and promise to stay as far away from April as possible.

Promise not fulfilled with success.

While April tries to find out why Yulia's refusal to speak, secrets of a crime come to the fore, endangering not only the life of little Yulia, but now, also April's.

April is not sure what to expect when she arrives to interview for the position of Nanny to little Yulia. What she was not expecting was the Uncle Yuri. For one he is good looking, and powerful. And the instant attraction that courses through her body has her on fire as well as on the edge.

Yuri is at his wits end. His niece Yulia has been silent for months. The little girl has not spoken a word since she lost her parents. All the best doctors have been unable to help. So he thinks maybe a Nanny might be able to bring the little girl around. What he did not expect was the sudden burst of pure lust when he first gazes at April.

The sexual chemistry between the two main characters is hot, like call the fire brigade hot. What I loved was April and the way she stood up to Yuri. This was not something he'd encountered before. Being the man he is, he's used to people obeying his orders. This woman will test him she is no shrinking violet.

A great read.

Applying for a nanny position for Yuri Volkov's orphaned niece, April Winters notices that not all is as it seems. A billionaire businessman with the tightest and most sophisticated security April's ever seen isn't unusual, but the over the top body guards and staff give her pause until she meets her new charge and realizes why Yulia needs her in the worst way.

Yuri has guardianship of his beloved niece though something has traumatized her to the point that she has refused to speak for the past six months. Listening to the experts, Yuri hires a female nanny who has been called a 'child whisperer' in the nanny world, Yuri struggles to keep his private and professional life separate when his feelings for the new nanny stray into taboo territory.

* * *

New to me author with a feel good fairy tale feel mafia themed story. This came across my radar on a friends profile and looked so intriguing that I just had to grab it for myself.

There are mafia stories that have that dark antihero feel and mafia stories that skim the surface of darkness, taking a different direction in fantasizing the mafia lifestyle in a positive light. This story premises the latter.

Yuri & April. Two different characters who are brought together only because of Yuri's niece. Doesn't take long for Yuri include 'after hour recreation opportunities with the boos' to April's job description. hehehe. April on the other hand initially fights her attraction for Yuri but his magnetism and strong arm seduction skills prove to be ineffective so, you guessed it, she's all in as the adult content erotica scenes give this story significant steam.

The intriguing part of this story is the mystery behind Yulia's behavior and lack of speech. This was the fun part of trying to figure that out before the big reveal, and yes, I'm happy to say I successfully did figure it out correctly.

The cast of secondary characters did disappoint me. I really felt they didn't contribute as much to the story as they could have. Their interaction was more of a superficial quality with the exception of Charlotte, but for even her, missed opportunities that her character wasn't fleshed out more. I found myself second guessing things (my beta side) because I had wanted them more integrated in the world building.

Going to add that I had a hard time with the character April. Flip flop back and forth behavior is a total turn off for me.

This is a book for mafia fans who look for easy reading antihero characters who don't come across like the darker themed stories that include graphic violence, bloodshed, and mayhem. A chance to read about bad boy mafia characters without all the nasties - to take a walk on the dark side, during a full moon night.

I can see Alice and Yuri as clear as if they were sitting next to me in my home. Le Carre nailed the characters and scenes! Just killed it!!

I was a bit skeptical initially because Alice seemed a bit gullible and extremely needy. However, my assumptions were so wrong! Alice knows exactly what she’s doing. The chemistry is very strong between Alice and Yuri and as a reader we need to see that first. Why? Read the story. Things take a nasty turn rather quickly and their relationship is tested in ways you won’t believe!

And let’s not forget the #1 reason Alice is the nanny in the first place. One word. Tissue.

Nanny and the Beast is an amazing read!

5 stars!

SENSUAL, SEXY, & SO MUCH MORE!!!
Title: Nanny and the Beast
Author: Georgia Le Carre
Designation: Full-Length, Standalone, No Cliffhanger, Contemporary Billionaire Romance
My Rating: Four Sinfully Sexy Stars****

Wow, what an unexpected and very delightful surprise! And why is it such a surprise? Because I detest nanny/wealthy employer story arcs. It's one of my least favorite tropes, so I can't believe I'm saying this, but I really enjoyed Nanny and The Beast. When this book was released in July of this year(2018), I quickly dismissed it and decided it wasn't my cup of tea, simply because of my preconceived judgments of all nanny/employer plot device constructs. But even after weeks had passed, I found myself still thinking about the book and doubting my decision. A few days ago, Le Carre released a second nanny/wealthy employer romance, The Man In The Mirror, featuring one of the secondary characters from Nanny and The Beast, and once again I found myself intrigued, tempted, and torn. Now I should insert here that I became a Le Carre fan 5 years ago after reading The Billionaire Banker Series and generally purchase all her new releases, no questions asked, but I didn't want to spend my hard earned money on books I felt sure I wouldn't enjoy. But for some inexplicable reason, I couldn't stop thinking about either book, so I decided to place my trust in Le Carre as an author, purchased both, and dove in. Best decision ever! Neither of the books was the same tired, old, clichéd stereotype I thought they would be - they were so much more than I could have ever imagined! Never have I been happier to admit my misconception. I fell in love with the mysterious Yuri and kindhearted April in Nanny and The Beast, and I simply adored tortured Brett and spirited Charlotte in The Man In The Mirror. Le Carre's sensual prose, skillful plot progression, superb character development, intricately interwoven element of finely tuned suspense, and easy-to-follow first-person narrative with clearly defined his and her perspectives captured my undivided attention and held me prisoner, completely spellbound and enthralled, my heart fluttering wildly, from the first page till the last.

So, did I like Nanny and The Beast and The Man In The Mirror? Yes, very much! Georgia Le Carre, you accomplished the impossible, something no author has been able to do in the last 65 years - you completely changed my opinion of nanny/wealthy employer romance tropes! I'm almost 70 years young and it takes a whole heck of a lot to change my mind about something, but you did! I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks after all! lol... Will I read this author again? Absolutely! Would I recommend this book? You bet! Actually, I recommend both books but only for adult readers since each contains tortured, dark heroes, sassy heroines, explicit language, and graphic sex (dreamy love scenes). And finally, was I entertained? Completely! Fabulous entertainment and awesome reads!

This story takes place in London and follows protagonist April Winters who use to be an elementary school teacher but now a nanny. She applies for a job to work for Russian billionaire Yuri Volkov as a nanny to his niece Yulia. He wants to have a female influence in Yulia's life as for the past 6 months she has completely stopped speaking. (Of course, we as the reader want to find out why.) All the while we're trying to find out who murdered Yulia's parents and worry about the safety of Yulia and April.

The storyline could have been better. There were certain events which felt unnecessary like the scene with April and her mother at the dinner party with the Prime Minister and Mayor. Also, the fact April gets sick with a fever was kind of unnecessary as well. It was just strange to bring these things into the mix when I didn't feel they helped propel the story forward. April at no point during the story expressed interest in finding her mother or even trying to establish a relationship with her. So why did Yuri feel it was important for them to reconnect without talking to her about it first? It felt like the author just brought this situation into the story to bring up Yuri and April's class differences.

Also, I didn't understand how from the beginning Yulia (Yuri's niece) was in unknown danger because Yuri wasn't sure who killed his brother and sister-in-law but then all of a sudden towards the end of the story he knew who the murderer was all along and was working with the police to catch him the whole time? If that's the case, why did he not notify his staff that the murderer was not allowed to be on his property for any reason? However, the murderer was able to and spends quite a bit of time with Yulia. Why did he feel it unnecessary to let April know about a person who is a potential threat? Part of her job is to watch over Yulia and keep her safe.

Also, there was no follow through for her to receive gun training. He never accepts the word "no" in any other regard but in this matter it's okay? Doesn't make much sense especially if he's worried about Yulia's safety.

I felt like the story could have had more narrative and description of the surroundings. I also wanted to see April build her relationship with Yulia more but the focus of the story was on her and Yuri. I was hoping the mystery of who killed Yulia's parents was going to be the main driving point of the story's plot but instead it dealt with Yuri and April's relationship and their hang up's of why they shouldn't be together.

The story is a nice book to take your mind off things but it's not a great work of literature.

This was an enjoyable read, but totally forgettable .Therefore I’ll keep this one short.

Yuri, a Russian mobster living in London, needs a nanny to look after his niece, Yulia. Yulia’s parents were murdered and the little girl has become mute.

April, our heroine interviews to become Yulia’s nanny and gets the job before she's even left.

Sparks fly immediately between her and Yuri.

There’s no slow burn here guys, they get stuck in straight away.

This book ticks all the boxes theoretically:

1. Hot mafia hero
2. Fiery heroine
3. Fun secondary characters.

So why the low rating?

Well, despite having all the ingredients for a hot mafia romance, I read this book last night and I’ve had to remind myself of the character’s names to write this review… Not a good sign, huh?

I guess I could be forgiven for forgetting their names with the amount of books I read, but the truth is that I remember the names of characters in great reads… always.

For me this is always the deciding factor.

Also, the book is very unrealistic in parts. The heroine is rather foolish and far too immature at times for my liking and this is a very average plot line. The small twist at the end was a slight surprise though, so at least it wasn't totally predictable.

This is probably my least favourite read from Georgia Le Carre thus far.

In conclusion The Nanny and the Beast is a short, enjoyable read. Just don’t expect fireworks.
