Two-time L. Ron Hubbard Writers of the Future award winner, author of the critically acclaimed Alexander Gambit sci-fi trilogy, author of the Brotherhood of Freeswords epic fantasy series, the genre-bending Thomas Hunter sci-fi series, Robert M Leonard is on a mission to, in respectful homage to the late, great authors of yesteryear, instill into others through his novels the love of reading they gave him.
I seldom read science fiction but this story turned out to be entertaining and interesting. Lots and lots of action, engaging characters (both human and non-human), a fast moving plot. There are still a few things that need a bit of work (some typos to correct and some bits of the story repeated) but basically this is a quick read that I enjoyed. With the creation of the third character at the end, there will certainly be more adventures ahead for the three avengers and their human counterparts. I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
This book was really well written. Everything felt so real even down to the supernatural aspects. A lot of intriguing questions about the Wraith answered and yet so many more I need to know! I think he/it's my new new favorite vigilante character.
The Wraith was about "A man that is not a man" sent to earth to save the world from destroying itself by protecting criminals. It was a quick read. It had a superhero feel to it and was enjoyable to read.
A real page turner, kept me on the edge of my seat!. I have never been been a science fiction fan but I am officially hooked. All I can I say is ...read it! You'll be a fan too.
I keep wavering on this story. The overall writing was pretty good. I found the story to be a quick read. The main characters have been, for the most part, developed well. It's just the story did not wow me.
There were several aspects of the story that almost annoyed me. In a way, I felt it romanticized the past. The future certainly isn't perfect, but I believe humanity has always had its problems. The present and future are not worse than the past. They are just different.
I also felt the main character, the Wraith, was a totalitarian. He knew what was 'right' and you had to listen to him. You had to do things his way. Furthermore, some of the results of the punishments he meted out were worse than the original crime.
I couldn't tell if this was a cautionary tale or a glorifying one. I was also disappointed at the end to find out that this story sort of ended suddenly as a lead-in to another book. I don't mind a series of books as long as each one has a distinguishable ending. This one did not have that in my opinion.
Interesting; Not Quite Great .. and Unknowingly a Prelude to Other Books
So, knowing the term ‘Wraith’ almost caused me to NOT read the book, but I’ve been getting desperate, and I thought I’d give it a try.
This Author’s writing and plot line was OK, but it’s not a story that reaches out and grabs you, with your dying to read the next page.
The ending of this book is almost anti-climatic, THEN I was surprised to find a blurb after the end, saying the story continues with ‘The Alexander Gambit’ — which I know is a SciFi trilogy — but I had thought and HOPED would be an entirely different plot.
Oh, well, I guess I’ll find out how The Wraith continues, but I’m not looking forward to the other books, now, as much as I’d previously hoped. (And, since I like to read Series in order — I’m glad I accidentally started with The Wraith, rather than having jumped into the Trilogy ...)
This was like a military book meets superhero - man who is not a man- science fiction book that will lead to other books. My husband enjoyed this book way more than I did. But he is former military and loves scifi. We will be following up on other books!
Wow, The Wraith sounds like an incredibly intense and thrilling read. The concept of a single superhuman or supernatural being causing these gruesome vigilante assaults is so unique and intriguing. I’m really excited to see how the investigation unfolds and what twists and turns await. Thank you for sharing such an interesting premise—can't wait to dive into this story.
DNF @ 11% I received a copy of this ebook in a Goodreads giveaway. I had trouble following what was happening, I also didn’t really care enough to find out.
