The party is over for bikini model Izzy Alvarez. For six years she’s made a good living by flaunting her God-given assets on runways and in front of cameras, but now as she approaches the big 3-0, the bodacious Latina is shocked to learn she’s aged out of the profession that’s kept her in mojitos, mani/pedis, and designer thongs. What’s a girl with a taste for the finer things in life and no marketable skills to do?
Getting a regular job is too boring to even consider, so Izzy decides to follow in the footsteps of her newly-engaged frenemy and become a trophy wife. Although she’s desperate and too broke to get a chipped nail fixed, Izzy still has standards for her future husband, which means no uggos, no vertically-challenged guys, and no geezers who need to pop a blue pill to perform in the bedroom. Enlisting the aid of her computer whiz nephew and her closest pals, Izzy goes on the prowl for a rich, marriage-minded man, encountering likely candidates in a lot of unlikely places.
The high life she’s dreamed of may be within reach when Izzy meets a charming, successful man who’s not only hotter than a steamy summer night in Miami, but ready to settle down. Now all Izzy has to do is make sure her loud, crazy Cuban family doesn’t scare off el hombre perfecto—oh, yeah, and squelch those pesky, romantic feelings she keeps having for the sweet, cash-strapped guy she's known forever.
Will Izzy’s hunger for money win out, or will her fiery heart demand to be heard?
An avid reader and writer, Tracie Banister has been scribbling stories since she was a child, most of them featuring feisty heroines with complicated love lives like her favorite fictional protagonist Scarlett O'Hara. Her work was first seen on the stage of her elementary school, where her 4th grade class performed an original holiday play that she penned (Like all good divas-in-the-making, she, also, starred in and tried to direct the production.) Her dreams of authorial success were put on the backburner when she reached adulthood and discovered that she needed a "real" job in order to pay her bills. Her career as personal assistant to a local entrepreneur lasted for 12 years. When it ended, Tracie decided to follow her bliss and dedicate herself to writing full-time. Her debut novel, the Hollywood-themed BLAME IT ON THE FAME, was released in January, 2012. And she's following that up with the fun summer read, IN NEED OF THERAPY.
It is no secret that I am a huge fan of Tracie Banister and her captivating novels. Very few authors have the skill to weave a tale with equal parts humor, drama, romance, and passion. Because of this thrilling combination, Ms. Banister gives you a truly satisfying experience every time!
Izzy As Is is the delightful sequel to In Need of Therapy. (Each book can be read as a standalone novel, but I highly recommend reading them both for the full Alvarez family experience.) From the first moment we meet Izzy, there is no question she wants everything the world has to offer—which doesn’t come cheap! Though her modeling career had kept her quite comfortable for years, Mother Nature has finally caught up with her, causing jobs to be few and far between. When it becomes clear that her posh lifestyle is under fire, Izzy decides to kick things up a notch. After securing the help of her nephew and a few close friends, she embarks on the adventure of a lifetime–finding the perfect husband. Izzy is bound and determined to find a handsome, charming, and, of course, rich man, all the while keeping her meddlesome family out of her business. How hard could it be?
The result is a roller coaster ride which will have you on the edge of your seat, laughing and swooning until your heart can take no more. With her sassy style, snarky quips, and brazen behavior, Izzy will keep you tearing through the pages from beginning to end. So, grab a latte and a comfy chair, because you’re going on a manhunt!
You know a book is good when you instantly wish it were going to be made into a movie. I could just see this one being a hit with the witty dialogue, Izzy’s sarcasm and her always entertaining family. This book has now topped my list of favorites.
Izzy, the self-absorbed swimsuit model, has aged out of her profession. No one wants her when she is about to turn 30. What will she do now? When Izzy runs into one of her former model friends and finds out she has a rich husband, Izzy sets out to find herself a millionaire too. Since she has no job experience other than modeling, so she thinks a rich husband is just what she needs to remain in the lifestyle she is so accustomed to. Her hilarious search for love and a new meaning in life made this an unforgettable story.
I have been waiting for Izzy’s story since she was first introduced as the sassy sister of Pilar Alvarez in the book In Need of Therapy. Although this book can be read as a stand-a-lone, I would recommend reading Pilar’s story first, because once you read this book, you will want to read it too (and it will save a few spoilers that are revealed in this book).
I laughed out loud so many times while reading this book. I especially enjoyed Zane twerking on a dare and the mosquito scene at Flamingo Gardens. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy.
Izzy Alvarez is my spirit animal! Headstrong, determined, and hilarious, she’s not afraid to go after what she wants—even when she’s not too sure what that is. With IZZY AS IS, Tracie Banister has crafted an engaging story that will have you swooning on one page and laughing out loud on the next.
I absolutely loved this book. I have read everyone of Ms. Banister's books, and I've got to say this is my favorite one so far. So much fun and crazy Izzy keeps you laughing all the way. My favorite character (besides Izzy) is her nephew Nate, Izzy's cohort in crime. Although this is a spin off of In Need of Therapy, you don't have to read the first book to really enjoy this one. But I think you'll want to. A feel good, page turner to the end!
I was lucky to get an advance copy of Tracie Banister’s latest and, as always, she delivers another funny, sexy chick-lit read! I’m not sure I’ve ever read a book with a main character quite like Izzy before. She’s got self confidence to spare, but doesn’t want to get a basic, boring J-O-B, so once she begins aging-out of her bikini-modeling days, she gets a great idea - become a trophy wife! After all, she’d make quite the trophy and she’s got a taste for the finer things. Thus begins her hunt for the lucky Mr. Right. You'll laugh, shake your head, and maybe even fan yourself a time or two as you read about Izzy’s antics.
If Tracie Banister isn’t already on your go-to chick-lit authors list, she should be!
Tracie Banister , Author of “Izzy As Is” has written a witty, humorous, sexy, and enjoyable novel. The Genres for this story are Chick Lit, and Women’s Fiction. The author describes her colorful cast of characters as quirky, dysfunctional, complex and complicated.
The star of our story is Izzy Alvarez. Izzy has been a successful bikini model, and I am quite envious that she is able to eat anything in sight and not gain an ounce. When I first met Izzy, she seemed very shallow. vain, and used to living a very expensive life. When I met the rest of her family, I just held my head. . It sort of reminds me of “My Big Fat Greek Wedding”. Each member of the Alvarez family has a unique personality. Izzy really is very loyal and enterprising for her family and friends. Izzy just does things in her way.
Problems occur, when Izzy who will be 30 has aged out of her career. She is too old to model in bikinis. What can she do? One thing that has crossed her mind is to find a wealthy husband. With the help of her teenage nephew who is a computer genius, Izzy has great plans to accomplish these goals. What is it that Izzy really wants? Will Izzy get her happily ever after?
I would recommend this enjoyable novel to those that enjoy a fun, and lighthearted story that will make you laugh out loud. Happy Reading !!
It's pee-your-pants hilarious, charming, and romantic! Oh, and did I mention swoon-worthy as well?! Seriously, I was in swoon heaven the whole way through, and I couldn't have been any happier.
What I Liked:
The Main Character - Izzy is completely unapologetic. She's in-your-face feisty and her confidence reaches extreme heights. Some may say she's just a tad too full of herself; however, I couldn't get enough of her. The things she would say always had me dying of laughter. She has no filter whatsoever! What I liked the most about Izzy, however, was the moments where she let her guard down. Sure, she may put on an incredibly tough act most of the time, but she has the same fears and worries as the average person. Her career is stalling, she's dealing with money problems, and she wonders if she'll ever have her happy ending. At first, she thinks the answer is the superficial one - marrying up - but as the book continues Izzy finds herself in surprising position and I loved the growth that came with it.
The Romance - In Izzy's pursuit for a rich, sexy husband, she experiences some winners and a whole lot of duds. The duds brought the laughs and the winners brought the steam. By the middle, Izzy is torn between two guys: the powerful executive ready to settle down and her long-term guy best friend. While I liked both, I was team best friend the whole way through! I loved the connection between him and Izzy. Their chemistry was scorching hot, and I loved the way that everyone but them knew there was something brewing there below the surface.
Izzy's Family - I could honestly read about Izzy's family all day. They're dysfunctional in the kind of way that is incredibly funny but at the same time you're happy you're not the one dealing with them. I loved the spats that would occur between Izzy and her sisters and mother, but I have to say the real show stealers here were Izzy's nephew and niece. The scenes were Izzy was in charge of them were by far my favorite.
The Message - Over the course of the book, Izzy experiences a lot of growth, and I appreciated the message it brought along for the ride. When the book first begins, Izzy believes that money is the answer to everything; however, she quickly learns that's not the case; instead, family, love, and happiness are what has the most value at the end of the day. I loved seeing this transformation occur, and I especially loved seeing Izzy finding her groove later in life. It goes to show that it's never to late to change your path.
What I Didn't Like:
NOTHING.
Seriously, this book is fantastic!
Overall, Izzy As Is is a spicy and sweet romance! Be prepared to laugh and swoon the whole way through!

I almost never miss a Tracie Banister book, and was absolutely delighted to read and review her latest, Izzy As Is. I actually went into the story without realizing that we would be meeting characters from past novels that Tracie Banister has written, and was quite excited when I made that realization. In Izzy As Is we follow our main character Izzy Alvarez, swimsuit model. She’s always been successful in her career because of her good looks and gorgeous body, but with the big 3-0 looming on the horizon, Izzy is shocked to hear her agent say the offers are starting to dry up. When friends encourage her to find her passion so she can have a career post-modeling, Izzy knows just what that passion is – money and a man. She goes on a series of dates looking for a man she can settle down with and that will take care of her – love not required. Izzy has never been into the romantics of relationships, or developing real feelings for the opposite sex. When she meets Eduardo, all the chips fall into place. Good-looking, uber-successful, totally rich. But will Izzy realize there might actually be more to life than a pretty wardrobe and big house, and that it takes more than money to make her truly happy? Izzy was an over the top character to follow and gave me plenty of laughs. She might not have been the most relatable, but she was still likeable for the most part in her own unique way. The supporting cast was fun to read about, especially Izzy’s family (and mother!) and catching up with Pilar and her family. The failed dates were quite funny, and the other romance angles had me curious to see how Izzy’s story would play out. While I enjoyed the ending and was happy to see some growth for our heroine, it did get a little cliché for me, but still fun to get the conclusion. Overall it was a fun, light-hearted chick lit read that came at a great time for me to escape into her story. Another solid novel from Tracie Banister that I would recommend amongst her past titles! Ever since I first saw this cover revealed, I was enticed into reading this book, it is so summery and gorgeous looking, just what is needed in a cold British winter, a slice of warmth in Miami. Given I have spent a few day in Miami and done two loops on the hop on, hop off buses, I did have some idea of the basics of this city, and was very excited when a mall I went to got mentioned briefly!
Unfortunately I soon realised that Izzy is the sort of main character that I no longer have time for, 5-10 years ago I would have probably loved her, but I find now that shallow characters that predominately care about their appearance, and bagging a rich husband just don't interest me anymore. However that is my problem and I know plenty of people will have no problem with this element of the book.
For I really did enjoy the writing, I loved that Izzy is a Latina, and part Cuban, and thus would occasionally start talking Spanish, and I was really glad to know that my knowledge of Spanish was up more than up to it and that I knew a swear word when I saw one!
There were plenty of moments in the book which made me chuckle, and the sibling rivalry Izzy had with Pilar and Ana was amusing. In fact I loved Izzy's mother too, who was just a slight hypochondriac, and tried to make every scene she was in revolve around her.
Though my absolute favourite character was Nate, Izzy's 11 year old genius nephew. We didn't see too much of him, but I loved his insights and just how intelligent he really is. His sister Gabi was adorable too, and her 5th Birthday party was the sort of party that little girls must dream of!
Izzy's best friend Zane is the other character I really really loved, in fact I think I fell a bit in love with him, but whether Izzy will ever notice him properly is another matter as she is determined to become a trophy wife and comes up with various plans to meet a rich sexy future husband!
If only I had connected more with Izzy, I would be giving this a much higher rating, as the rest of the book was really good, I just find if I 'm not keen on the main character it becomes a problem for me. The story itself was predictable but I didn't mind that too much, just wish I had been able to read this on holiday, as it would be a great poolside / beach read!
Thanks to Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
Loved this book!!!!!! The story is fast paced, thoroughly thought out and very well written. Izzy is your typical poor little rich girl but her life gets turned upside down when at the ripe old age of 29 she is forced to retire from bikini modeling. Now it's time for Izzy to find a new source of income. So of course she's gonna get a sensible job and work really hard, right? Ha! Wrong! She's gonna go get herself a sugar daddy and settle down of course. Izzy is hilariously fierce and sassy. She kept me laughing and completely intrigued from cover to cover as she learns life's lessons about what really matters. This book has all the makings for a perfect romantic comedy with its clever writing and crazy entertaining cast of characters!
Absolutely hilarious! Although Izzy is a beautiful, curvy and sweet woman, she is broke and a dismal failure as a model. So she decides to find a rich young man to marry. Between her "crazy" dates and her outrageous family, Izzy is just floundering her way through life. Most women dream of the three magic words, "I love you" as the ultimate goal in a relationship. Not gold-digger Izzy! Her three magic words are "Quit your job"! Then she meets Eduardo Sandoval CEO of his family's business. Yes this relationship will pay her bills, give her a mansion, diamonds and furs, but what about true love? And more important what about Zane? This story is a great reminder to open your eyes and your mind because everything you want and need is probably standing right in front of you!
Loved this book! Since I grew up in Miami, I was able to relate to the places she referred too which I enjoyed. This book was a very fun, pleasant , easy read.
I recently read In Need of Therapy and enjoyed it a lot, so I was excited to read more about the Alvarez family, through the eyes of Izzy. Her story definitely needed to be told and Tracie Banister gave her a great outlet through this novel. I enjoyed seeing her come into her own. Even though she sometimes seemed shallow, Izzy had a good heart and cared about her friends and family (no matter how much the latter got under her skin). I found myself laughing out loud many times and sympathizing with Izzy when something was bothering her. There were also some great romantic scenes that generated a lot of steam and made me smile even more.
I liked this book even more than In Need, although that one is definitely worth checking out before reading this one so that you don't have any spoilers, should you decide to read them out of order! I even liked it more than Twin Piques, which I also really loved! Tracie just keeps outdoing herself. I hope she'll continue the Alvarez family saga, either by writing about Ana (to make her more likable) or doing a joint perspective between Pilar and Izzy. (I'd be glad to visit with them both again!)
An absolutely fantastic, hilarious work of chick-lit! Love the Latin flavour, love the quality of the characters and the vibrancy of the plot lines. Particularly enjoyed the fact that this well-written book wasn't stereotypical: no weak, fumbling females in need of rescuing by a good man; and in fact no moments where I wanted to yell at the female protagonist at all! A really quality book.
This book is the most fun I've had since being in COVID-19 seclusion. Thank you, Izzy! If I have to live vicariously through any one character it would definitely be you. Shout out to Tracie - Wow! Remember when I told you Pilar was my favorite sister? Scratch that. Like everyone else, I was charmed by Izzy and had fallen in love with her by the third chapter. Every woman needs an Izzy in her entourage. She may get all the hot guys (that's cool. I've already got a hot hubster), but Izzy is an endless source of entertainment. She'll get you into the best clubs and will deliver the laughs. Sure...Izzy can be self absorbed and dramatic. If we're being honest, we all have our moments of me, me, me. Izzy's just upfront about it. She tells it like it 'izzy'. She's that friend who has zero problems telling you your hair looks like mierda. However, you'll thank her for insulting you. She knows the hottest trends and will hook you up with her chic stylist. Boredom is not an option when Izzy is around.
I originally met this gorgeous, fiery Latino in Banister's In Need of Therapy. Here, we meet Pilar and her boisterous Cuban-Chilean family, the Alvarez crew. Good thing Pilar is a psychologist. This family could use a few couch sessions, especially Pilar's sisters, Ana and Izzy. There's no love lost there. Yikes. Pilar is the sensible, middle sister. She's the peacekeeper. Izzy, the baby of the family, is squatting at Pilar's home. She's not the most gracious guest; isn't very motivated either. She prefers parties and bad boys. I'll admit, I didn't form a kind opinion of Izzy. She certainly didn't deserve one. Pilar is the good sister. I identified with Pilar because I, too, am the sensible middle child. I also have a spoiled little sister. (My baby sister is eighteen years younger than me. Yes! Same mom/same dad. She was definitely an "oops" baby. Love you, Lauren!!) Anyway, I was delighted to discover that Banister offered a second helping of Alvarez. Obviously, Izzy is the star of Izzy As Is. This book picks up almost seven years after In Need of Therapy concludes. Izzy has found success as a bikini model. But, the world of bikini models is a fickle place. How long can one expect to get paid for their beauty? 'Izzy As Is' isn't an option. She'll have to reinvent herself. Or will she? Why change? I mean, c'mon! This chica is smoking hot! She'll just have to change her game plan. She's not willing to give up life's finer things. I'm not saying I agree with her tactics. I've gotta give Iz props for going after her dreams. Unlike Iz, I believe a solid relationship is based on friendship, mutual respect, patience, and love. Of course, money is a necessary means. I've never been one to judge another by their cash flow, or lack thereof. She may be beautiful but she has her flaws. Despite her diva attitude, she's unapologetically Izzy. What you see is what you get. I may not have liked her in Pilar's story, however, Iz quickly stole my heart here. Izzy is a handful. She's also quick-witted, head strong, hilarious, and interesting. She grows on you. At first glance, Izzy stuns with her outward beauty. Once you get to know her, you realize that she's just as gorgeous on the inside. It may take Izzy a little longer to believe in inner beauty. She'll get there. All I can say is, I enjoyed the journey. Izzy is a riot. I love spending time with the Alvarez family. It's an adventure with tons of laughs. Bonus: It was super fun catching up with Pilar and Ford. Pilar fans will be happy to know that she makes plenty of appearances, one of them uber dramatic.
Thankfully, Banister is working on another Alvarez installment. Yay! We'll finally get the opportunity to get into Ana's head. Now there's a challenge, Tracie. I didn't think it was possible to connect with Izzy. Who knew I'd love her more than Pilar? If you can convince me to fall as hard for Ana, well, you truly are a damn good writer. I can't wait! I supremely love the Alvarez women! You know what else I'd sign up for in an instant? Luisa (Mamá) Alvarez's story would be a hit with me. I have a dear Latino friend who affectionately reminds me of Mamá. She's one of my favorite people. I hope you're thinking along those lines. If not, hint-hint, wink-wink.
Ok. So, listen. I don't like giving away too much about a story. I can tell you that I'm not normally a chick lit subscriber. Tracie Banister managed to convert me. I highly recommend this cheerful, witty, laugh-out-loud book. This is the perfect COVID-19 anecdote. It's fun the whole way through. Now, I'm headed to Amazon to select my next favorite Tracie Banister book. FYI: If you're a Kindle Unlimited subscriber ALL of Tracie's books are FREE!
Izzy is well known for being self-absorbed, materialistic, jumping from man to man, and totally uninterested in romantic relationships. As the youngest of three daughters, she has a rebellious streak and drives her mother crazy. At first, I wasn’t sure how to feel about her and felt a little judgmental but as the story progressed, I found myself laughing out loud at the many antics by Izzy and especially her family.
Her family has a strong Cuban heritage so there were plenty of food references, squabbles among all of the family members, a drama queen mother, and even a ferret thrown into the mix! Izzy’s friends are quite unique and great side characters.
At age 29, Izzy realizes that her modeling days are over but doesn’t seem to have a passion for any work other than wanting to live the high life and have money. She comes up with the bright idea to find a wealthy husband and become a trophy wife, without thinking about love or children. She has a definite list of things she likes or dislikes about men and finds that after several dates of seemingly acceptable men, there are some aspects that are too cringe-worthy to tolerate. She becomes quite lucky when she meets Eduardo, but he seems a little too perfect for me and with his new job responsibilities, he’s neglecting Izzy, which doesn’t go over well.
Izzy isn’t afraid to speak her mind, is sassy and quite brazen. I loved that even as a model, Izzy still ate her favorite foods and loved her curvy shape. I laughed at her comments about waif-like models, which we see so often.
Izzy finds herself at a crossroad and struggles to decide which direction to take. I loved so many parts of this story with family, friends, finding work that you’re passionate about, and love. I laughed so many times and hated for the story to end. I fell in love with Zane and by the end of the story, he has become one of my favorite male characters.
I think this would make a hilarious rom-com movie between the Miami location, the over-the-top family, Izzy’s antics, and the ferret scene!
I’ve found a new author to follow and look forward to reading more of Ms. Bannister’s books.
I recently gushed about Mixing It Up (review here ) but even before that I loved In Need of Therapy (read review here), which was the first book about one of the Alveraz sisters. This is the second (please God let there be more to come!), and I love it even more! As you can see this is all about Izzy, a model who, on opening, is being told by a nervous agent named Marty that she is outside of the age bracket that is preferred for her type of modelling career. Cue ott reacions that made me settle down and enjoy straight away. I was thrilled then to become re acquainted with her family, who are as loud and bright as ever, with the scowling Ana, the lovely Pilar and their mother, who more than contributed to Izzy’s knowledge of how to get her own way, as well as their lovely father, who has quite a job keeping things under control. All the characters in this book jumped off the age, they were bright, fresh and hilarious, with the banter non stop and brilliant.
Characters make a book for me and her friends were also the perfect mix of crazy and sensible, and then there were those int he side lines too, including more than one or two Izzy was willing to flirt with, again with banter that made me grin and nod along, especially when Izzy sadly realised that it wasn’t quite the time to be flirting. In terms of the story, this had it all, there were blind dates that really didn’t work out and love interests you wanted, and others you didn’t, with my type of comedy going bam, bam, bam all over the place, (I loved that there was actually a nice little lump pf mom lit thrown in as Izzy babysat and ended up being minded herself!) mixed with pacing perfection! The romance was excellent, although to be honest, me being the prude that I am, I could have probably lived without the sex scenes, but they didn’t take away from the book. As for Izzy? Well she was chick lit perfection, never being afraid to say what she thought, being cheeky and selfish but ultimately, such a good person too.
I hearted this book so much. Very highly recommended. Thanks so much to the author for the book in return for an honest review.
Tracie Bannister is a new author to me. If you are a fan of the romantic comedy genre then this book will be right up your alley. There were so many laugh out load moments in this book that I am sure people thought I was crazy.
Not only was there humour but there was drama, angst, romance and steam.
Although a stand alone, I would encourage you to read In Need of Therapy so as to get the full impact of Izzy and her crazy family.
When Izzy’s modelling career comes to a screaming halt just shire of her 30th birthday she has no idea what she can do to pay for the lifestyle she has become comfortable in. This is where her crazy starts as she decides she needs to marry a man of means, but she has standards that must be met. After all, how hard could it be?
Throughout her journey, I laughed so much I nearly cried. This was a roller coaster of a read and one that had me engaged from the start and the secondary characters were as entertaining as the main characters.
Who wouldn't want to read a book to live vicariously through a swimsuit model's life in Miami?!? I know I would! Oh, the dramas of what happens when the swimsuit model is deemed too old for the profession and perils of no longer being able to afford the lifestyle! Izzy kept the story fun during her search for the perfect husband and her family added that flare. A great follow-up to In Need of Therapy but could be read as a standlone. Be sure to take this book with you on your next trip to the beach!
This is a must read! I absolutely LOVED Izzy As Is. I didn't think I could like it more than In Need of Therapy (where you get a intro to Izzy), but I did. Both books can be read as a stand alone, but I loved knowing a little about her first. Tracie Banister does an excellent job of weaving in romance, intrigue, suspense, drama, and humor into this rom-com. Izzy Alvarez thinks she needs to find a rich, eligible bachelor to marry now that her modeling career is all but over. She learns a lot about herself in her search along the way. It may surprise you who she winds up with! When I finished reading this, I ordered a mojito. The Alvarez family are a fun bunch to read about and get to know.
Izzy is such a fun loving character! I imagined myself being friends with her and her tight knit group. I loved the story and how it evolved. She always loved her appearance but I really like how she found her worth through the story and found out money doesn't buy happiness before it was too late especially in her life!! Love happens in mysterious ways and I'm glad it turned out to surprise her!!!
I was lucky to get an copy of this book by the author!!! It was my first Tracie's book and now, I must read all her books!!!!!
This is hilarious, charming, and romantic! I thougth I'll dislike Izzy because she is such a spoiled brat girl..... BUT I was completely wrong.... I loved her and all her friends and family (except Ana kkkkkkk). And Zane!!!!! I'm in love!!!!
This is a must read! If you like a funny and light romance!!!
This wonderfully fun follow-up to In Need of Therapy had my flipping pages all night. The colourful cast, including the wildly funny Cuban American family of the heroine, would light up the screen. Add that to the beautiful scenery of Florida, and the steamy moments and hello! Lights, camera, action!
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This book was a riot and a half. Izzy isn't your typical chick lit character in that she's not lacking confidence or trying to lose weight, or waiting for a man to rescue her (well, possibly that last one...but not in the way most people think). She was a breath of fresh air and just about every word out of her mouth had me chortling in amusement. I loved coasting along in her husband-hunting journey and watching her discover what she truly wanted out of life along the way. The family drama was hilarious. The romance-angsty stuff was delicious. The dialogue was witty, snappy, and never ever stilted. And, although I was 100% amused by Izzy's antics from page one, I didn't think I'd actually grow to love and adore her. I was SO wrong. If you're looking for a sweet story about a wallflower or shrinking violet finally getting her happy ending, look elsewhere, but if you're looking for a spicy, sassy, sexy read about a woman who takes the world by the balls and squeezes hard, this is the book for you.
Do you ever start a book and then start to worry that you aren’t going to get into it or be able to connect with the main character? Well, stupidly, that is what I was thinking as I started Izzy As Is, wondering if I would be able to like this spoiled woman. However, I very quickly fell in love with Izzy, all of the characters (except her sister Ana), and the entire story! This was such a funny and unique story that I quickly formed an addiction to and was sad when it ended simply because I wanted so much more fo these crazy characters.
At the ripe old age of 29, Izzy is informed by her agent that she is aging out of her profession as a bikini model. Running out of money and no motivation for a different career, Izzy decides she needs to find a rich man to marry. In between her man hunting, I was treated to wonderful, hilarious banter between Izzy and her three best friends – Topaz, Nacho, and Zane, as well as, the laugh out loud craziness that was Izzy’s family.
Although I wasn’t sure about Izzy initially, she turned out to be a breath of fresh air as far as female lead characters go. Model or not, that woman could eat. She credited her Cuban heritage for her appetite and her metabolism for her figure, but regardless this woman was an eating and drinking machine (many, many Mojitos were consumed). Another wonderful quality about Izzy was her self-confidence. Except for some moments here and there as she sought out wealthy husband material, she was absolutely herself with no regards to others’ opinions about her. Even when she was “modeling” in front of a wing shop, handing out samples on the sidewalk, she still carried herself as if she was a princess – and it was fabulous.
I learned after reading that Izzy got her own book after she was a character in a previous novel, In Need of Therapy. I assure you that you do not need to read that novel to enjoy this fantastic cast of characters and their stories. However, I can promise that you will fall in love with her wonderful friends – especially the yummy, sweet, smart, talented Zane. The same goes for family, except for, as stated previously, her miserable wretched sister Ana. Everyone else is funny, unique, and add to the amazing novel that this is. There are plenty of embarrassing moments for Izzy, a hilarious first date with a doctor, plenty of absolute insanity at family gatherings, and so much more that made this such a fun, light-hearted read that also has plenty of sweet romance! I highly recommend this one to my readers!! 🙂
*Many thanks to the author for providing this novel in exchange for my honest review!
The Blurb : The party is over for bikini model Izzy Alvarez.
My Thoughts : I have to touch on this beautiful cover first, its so bright and summery and just screams adventure. Infact all of Tracie Banister’s cover have that pretty, colourful element to them. Izzy Alverez is no longer suitable as a model, at only 29 years old, Izzy has been told by her agent she is too old and is classed as a ‘has been’ model. Much to Izzy’s dismay she decides to up her game and find herself a rich, handsome man so she can still live the life she is acustomed to. With the help of her Nephew Nate and some of her friends they put together a plan to find Izzy a potential husband with lots of money. This is filled with fun and adventure as we go along with Izzy’s journey to find a rich man. I didnt really enjoy the Spanish and Cuban elements to the story but that is just personal prefrence. Looking forward to more from Tracie Banister.
Yet another wonderful fun filled un-put-downable novel by Tracie Banister! The sequel to ‘in need of therapy’ did not disappoint. As soon as I came across Izzy in Tracie's previous novel I just knew this book would be full of fun, laughter, naughtiness and general crazy behavior!
Izzy is on the search for a man - not just any man, oh no - she has criteria - and high standards. I’m not sure why, but she is very likable despite being a complete diva and so full of herself. She is absolutely beautiful, an aspiring model who is also unfortunately on the wrong side of her twenties and not happy about it one bit. Things are failing in the modeling department, and are not looking good in the husband searching department either. We go on the lookout for an eligible bachelor with Izzy and her friends, looking for love (or is it money?!?) with a few hilarious stories along the way. I just loved the Alvarez family in the prequel and I loved them even more in this novel, as we get to know more about the sisters, Izzy’s mother and father and her crazy aunts. This book has it all, laughter, a little sauciness, family, friends, and most of all love. I did see some of it coming, however, the story was told so beautifully I couldn’t put it down - and there was a twist I didn’t expect! Such a lovely book, even if you haven’t read ‘in need of therapy’ (which I also highly recommend!) this book is guaranteed to make you smile while you escape and enjoy the antics of the one-of-a-kind diva that is Izzy Alvarez. Many thanks to the author for the arc of this book 👙🛍💍💃🏻❤️
Who is Izzy? She’s a Latina from Miami and she is an amazing and irresistible combination of brains, beauty and sass.
But when her agent tells her that she is also past her Bikini Model Expiration Date, she realizes she must find a new gig. “Great I’m such an unsexy, old hag, even Hooters doesn’t want me.”
Izzy promptly comes up with a new life plan- she will marry for money. Much of the book details her romp to find the top alpha male. But along the way, she learns about herself and life, partly thanks to a special birthday party and a sister who needs her in a crisis. You will love seeing how Izzy manages it all.
Enjoy Author Banister’s latest dazzling read- loaded with heat (Miami and Izzy), wit and snark (also Izzy), yummy Cuban food (yep, Izzy) and plenty of fun and surprises. Whether she’s eating a double Shackburger or singing in the key of mi, mi, mi, Izzy is always in charge.
“I’m well aware that every guy in the place is watching my booty in these hot pink jeans that fit like a second glove. Enjoy fellas!”
“Men’s hormones get activated because they think Latinas are all hot-blooded, thrillingly unpredictable sexpots. In my case, that assumption is correct.” And what more can we ask for in a Main Character? Will Izzy find a man who appreciates her amazing and irresistible combination of brains, beauty and sass?
“I just let you be yourself and that’s when you shine the brightest.”
