ALLIE

He is a tyrant.
The heir to billions in real estate fortune.
The Ice King of my high school and my hometown.
I stayed away from him all those years ago, but now he’s showed up again in New York, more powerful than ever and armed with a dark secret.
Ryland Wyatt may be colder than an arctic glacier, but when we clash, something wild happens.
Something explosive.
He’ll burn me alive if I let him, but no one told me that the fire would feel so good.

RYLAND

What I want, I get.
Always.
And what I want is Allie Beckett, the stubborn, evasive loner who confused the hell out of me ten years ago.
It doesn’t matter that she’s off-limits to me.
It doesn’t matter that I destroyed her life, or that she doesn’t know.
Allie will be in my bed soon, and once I get her out of my system, she’ll be out of my world.
There is no other option.
We were over before we even began, meant to go up in smoke.
But before that, we will go down in flames.

Arrogant is a complete standalone novel in the New York Heirs Series
*Contains explicit intimate scenes and profanity.

Extra Warning: Here there be jackasses...
This novel starts off with Ryland and the boys literally throwing money around and being Grade A elitist assholes, so do proceed with caution if it's not your thing!

Otherwise, get ready to meet a jerk who has a lot of groveling to do before he gets his girl. ;)

Drea Blackery is a writer with an unhealthy passion for all things steamy and angsty. Broken alpha heroes are her crack, and from the moment she typed her very first “Chapter One”, she fell in love with writing books and hasn’t looked back since.

Drea lives with her husband and her dog (creatively named Woofie), and her favorite things in the world include spending time with her family and friends, curling up with a tub of Ben and Jerry’s to binge-watch Game of Thrones (Team Arya!), and of course, reading.

Heir of New York.
Manhattan Royals.
Trust Fund Nobility.

Ryland Wyatt.
Gabriel Easton.
Cameron Lancaster.
Theo Valentine.

at 18 they ruled their highschool, they ruled the society, they were bored most of the time and out of boredom they were involved in the most devious plan that followed them 10 years later...

and the time came for them to pay the price.

Ryland - the CEO and heir to billions in real estate fortune....has no intention to pay...he has a plan of his own, and it consist of one and only Alecia Grace Beckett/Allie-cat , now young woman who was hurt the most along with her younger sister Karin, 10 years ago.

BUT now, he needs her to extract an info, an info that could put him in advantage of the woman who is blackmailing them all for money...the woman who took everything from Allie and her sister buy commiting an ultimate crime, who used young hot-headed bored rich boys for her devious ploy, and who used her own son to turn him against them...

and along with the lingering threat, the joined path that Ryland and Allie are forced to take to get rid of her once and for all, won't go easy...it's filled with secrets, lies, hidden agenda BUT most of all it's fueled with undulated chemistry bursting between them...

And where Allie is ready to find "good" in everyone, even in the cold, cruel, ruthless bastard that is Ryland Wyatt, he's adamant to fight the new arising tingling emotions that have no place inside his cruel heart...no matter how hard he fights against it...
"I want you" Ryland said bluntly, "and everything I do is geared towards having you. I can't lie about that. And I'm not gonna applogize for it.

But can she forgive Ryland his implications from 10 years ago...those actions being directly ruling/changing her and her sister's lives forever...

well, I'll be short in giving my impressions of this book.

it was fast paced, suspenseful, action filled romance drama with bastardly alpha who groveled when he needed to and a heroine who knew how to find an inner strength to fight the urge to slap the face of the mentioned alpha, for his own good.

even though, at times, i thought she was naive in her open-hearted manner and then I overlooked that when she acted boldly in the next minute of action. As for the bastard alpha, he's really a piece of work LOL but I liked him *wink*

there were parts of the story that felt like "i-would-re-write-the -whole-scene-all-over" but well, it can't all go the way I want it too...LOL

All in all, a real refreshment!!! ;)

4.5 STARS!

Blackmail! Lies! Betrayal!

I love a good blackmail story and Arrogant did not disappoint! I got sucked right in and enjoyed every second of it.

Ryland and his three best friends were born to money and privilege; fulfilling their roles as entitled assholes came naturally to them - until, as high school seniors, they go too far with one of their schemes. Now, ten years later, their past has come back to haunt them.

Allie's life changed forever that night; she lost everything except her sister. Together, they've been scraping by, trying to build a new life. Ten years on, Ryland shows up out of the blue, unwelcome and still just as arrogant.

Despite the plot not being 100% airtight, it sure kept me flipping the pages. The writing style was incredibly engaging and I thought the author did a great job of stringing me along by telling me that something happened, but not what that night ten years ago.

In addition to the blackmail, there was also the love story between Allie and Ryland, both of whom I loved.

Allie was a strong, quirky heroine who was stubborn and prideful as hell - I loved that about her. She completely confounded Ryland with her seeming immunity to his money, charm, and attempts at dominance. Of course she wasn't quite as immune as she appeared:
A sudden image flashed into my mind, of Ryland naked and pounding into a moaning woman from the back. A woman who looked suspiciously like me.
But where I thought the author really excelled was with Ryland's character arc. He began the novel as a stomach-turning ass:
He was so selfish. So flawed. As ugly on the inside as he was beautiful on the outside.
...and really struggled with himself over the course of the story:
The idea of playing into my father's hands made me physically sick. This shit between us was like a disease, a tumor I could never get rid of. I hated everything he stood for but at the same time I couldn't break free, because I stood for the same things.
Watching him morph into a man who was worthy of a woman like Allie was so gratifying to read.

I definitely recommend this one! I can't wait for the next book!

I don't want to imply anything but this book is suspiciously a lot similar to Vicious by L.J. Shen but not that well executed. 🤔

Let me justify my statement:
• H and his three arrogant friends rule the school (just like the Hot Holes)
• They throw a party every week at a mansion
• They organize fights
• H is secretly attracted to one girl (h) who lives in this mansion (just like Emilia)
• h has a younger sister
• h and her sister move to New York and h supports her financially
• One of them is a painter (that's h's sister instead of h)
• H is a billionaire while h and her sister are struggling financially
• H and his friends are the reason why her life is like that right now
• They meet after many years in New York and he offers her money that she clearly needs to work for him.

Do you see my point? And please note that I'm only @10% so far...

I don't see a point in reading this book since I don't like the writing style at all and I've already read it something so similar to it.

DNF @ 10%

(for once I don't feel bad for giving it 1 star so early in the story)

If you were a fan of LJ Shen's Vicious, then i'm informing you that this book is kind of it's generic alias. Too many things were the same. It was pretty uncanny and rather blatant at times.

Same group of four spoiled arrogant friends who rule as friends when they are younger.
Heroine ends up taking care of her sister struggling financially.
The hero and his friends are the reason her life is shit.
He's a complete asshole who manipulates her.
Same exact grovelling than in the book Vicious.

Even though not everything is exactly alike, it's enough to raise a brow at.

But in this book, the plot rolls around making no sense at all. All the reason he is trying to protect her, he lets go of in the end. Plus she never calls cops upon hearing her dad was murdered??? Pffft!!! That didn't fly for me.

Decent sex scenes... but heroine lacking some layers and hero lacking some logic. And UNLIKE Vicious, the hero turns into a pussywhipped dope when he and heroine finally get together. His personality does a 180. Not a fan of that...

Insipid, recycled rubbish that uses nauseatingly explicit sex to distract from the crap writing and utter lack of substance.
Anyone who believes high school boys behave in such a way must themselves be in high school. It's ridiculous how much power the writer gives a pack of boys who barely have begun to shave or drive a vehicle, like they're all these formidable forces of nature before they are even legal. It's a joke. And then a decade later - where they are still boys, in my opinion - the H in this book is sooo powerful and cold that the 'polar ice caps stop melting' under his frigid stare.

Gimme a feckin' break. Lol!

And if you're going to write a book set in America using American characters, best do the proper research. Also, brush up on your American English because this bog roll masquerading as a romance novel is littered with UK English and uses terms Americans just don't. I'm a transplant to the US from Scotland and I know full well the differences.

Oh yeah. And editing. Editing would be good. Better yet, find a new hobby.

I am leaving a review in exchange for a copy given by the author although even though I wouldn't receive one from I would've still left a review. I rarely write them that is how much I love the story. I was really desperate to have it once I read the blurb, so here it goes. One of the best contemporary romances I read. I don't know why but I am really attracted to books that have a group of rich friends like L.J Shen and Devil's night series by Penelope Douglas and watching how each of them develop their story.

Anyway, I love the story, really fast-paced. The Prologue was a grabber. Really pulled me in to the story. Ryland was an asshole at the beginning chapters (although kinda of sexy and likable one) but he displayed redeeming qualities as the story goes on.

I like the heroine because she wasn't affected by her former riches and glory. She learned to be humble by having nothing but her sister beside her.

The only thing that was missing in the story was a little more on their high school days. I also wanted to see more of the 3 other boys, but otherwise, as I said it before. I loved it.

BTW, I love Karin. She's such adorable and funny red/ginger head. Love her! AND OH MY PANTIES ARE GONNA EXPLODE FOR BOOK #2 WITH KARIN AND THEO. SO UNEXPECTED! although I could tell between the lines. The author kinda hints it so subtlety. Theo is cruel and emotional deprived, but he's my favorite one out of the rich boys.

I am also really looking forward to reading Marlon's book. He makes a short appearance in the first book. It comes out in a few weeks. YIPEE!!

Loved it

Ryland, Gabe, Cam and Theo, wealthy arrogant, jaded, cruel and at 18, they ran their high school and their town, and destroyed a family, out of greed. Ten years later the past has come back to haunt them. Ryland, Gabe and Cam are being blackmailed by Theo's mother for the crime she committed. Theo long ago betrayed them and sided with his mother. Exhausting all options, Ryland tracts down Allie, the the women they stole everything from.
Allie and her young sister lost everything when their father died. Left destitute they have struggled to make a life for themselves on the other side of the country. Then Ryland walks back into her life. More handsome and arrogant then ever, and he wants her help, and is willing to pay to get it.
Fast paced and steamy. Ryland is a ruthless, arrogant, unforgiving, bastard. Allie had to grow up fast, she is still a little naïve, still kind, but with a hard edge.
Loved Ryland, he is unapologetic and at times cruel to Allie, but is always clear on his intentions. Allie slowly gets under his skin. When the truth comes out, Allie is destroy. Ryland works hard to get Allie back. Like what I saw of Gabe, Cam and Theo, as well as Allie's sister Karin.
Can't wait for Theo and Karin's story. Theo is one dark bad boy. He and Karin seem to be polar opposites. Looking forward to the Marlon and Emma story. Can't wait to see who Gabe and Cam fall for.

Weird that this book was so similar to "Vicious" by L.J. Shen that I read yesterday.
Four rich messed up guys and one really treats the girl bad....check it out.

I liked this book a little better. L.J. Shen has a few more books with the remaining arrogant jerks.

wow .. what a wonderfully exciting and hot book .. unprecedented passion .. wonderful scenes .. they are made for each other .. but circumstances keep them apart .. a book to keep reading. I can not wait for the other parts to come true. This book therefore gets 5 stars from me. not everyone will agree ... but I just can not explain it without giving too much price. and that is something I do not want to do .. keep it up Drea Blackery.

This is my first book by this author and I have to say that I'm planning on reading the rest of this series, it's that good. The characters shine. The story will definitely leave you affected one way or another. That, in my opinion, is the mark of a great book. You have to feel it.

I highly recommend this book and this author! I received an advance reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Loved this but needs some serious proof reading

I really loved this story, so much so that even with all the errors I kept reading. There were so many missing words, misused words, words out of place, or unneeded words, that this book needs some serious proof reading. There were also a couple of times where the author wrote "we made out". If this was when they were in high school it would have been acceptable, but it was10 years later which seemed kind of juvenile for that age. And still, inspite of all that, I kept on reading ... the story was that good. I might have given this 5 stars if there hadn't been so many errors.

The H, Ryland, was a very complex character. Yes he's arrogant, both as a young man in high school and 10 years later as a successful CEO of the family corporation. But there is more to him than meets the eye. His upbringing has a lot to do with who he is. I loved that he accepts he's not perfect. While he hates the phonies in his circle, he admits he's not willing to give up the money and power that comes with his status. And yet, in his school days he admired the h, Allie, because she didn't care about position and status. Even though she had it, she never used it, kept mostly to herself and never partied with the others.

Allie is pretty multi-layered too. An event in their senior year affects all their lives. But for Allie it meant loss. Loss of family and money; sacrificing her own goals to support her younger sister and assure she graduates from college. It meant small apts in shady areas and two jobs just to barely make ends meet. It even meant eating in soup kitchens to keep from starving at times.

Ten years later, the past has come back to haunt them. Ryland finds Allie in the hopes she can give them information to help them. Unfortunately, Allie knows nothing, but now she's in the cross hairs of the blackmailer and Ryland is forced to protect her and her sister. What ensues is a peeling back of layers (particularly of Ryland) to get to the heart of him until he finally realizes what was truly missing in his life all along. Through the process, there's a murder attempt, friction between father and son (with Allie in the middle), a secret discovered, a break-up and make-up, hot sex and a kidnapping. Plenty of excitement and some confrontational interaction between the H and h. I love that even though Allie was attracted to and came to care for Ryland, she still stood up to him and never let him walk all over her.

** 4 'Catastrophic' Stars **

***He was so powerful, and he was mine.***

My first time reading a work from this author and I can say with 100% confidence that I'm not disappointed...

This book holds lots of similarities with Vicious (Sinners of Saint, #1) by L.J. Shen . If you have read L.J. Shen book and liked it, this one will not disappoint. Even though these books were like twin there were uniqueness that stood out in each book.

Arrogant is a story about Allie and Ryland. Yet, their story is entwined with Cam, Gabriel and Ethan. Everything started when they were teenagers, though they had no idea that when they 'met' again, after ten years, it would be due one fatidic night.

***And for the first time in my life, the aching emptiness inside me was calm.***

I adored Ryland. He had the perfect amount of assholiness, bluntness, coldness, intelligence and kindness. As I mentioned before, he resembled a lot like Vicious from L.J. Shen's book.

Allie Cat was outstanding. She had my favorites traits as a heroine. She was strong, compassionate and caring. Though a bit too obsessed with commitment, lol.

All other secondary characters were enthralling. Each holds dark secrets waiting to be spilled. I really hope each of them gets their own book! *fingers crossed*

Want kidnapping? Blackmail? Desire? Lust? Hot Sex? Family ties? Betrayal? Murder? all in one? This is it.... And it doesn't get much better. I enjoyed this book a lot.... the beginning was a little irritating... but once we got over the whole back story and moved on it was compelling and I kept wanting to read more, and I was disappointed when I reached the end... but there will be others to come and I look forward to that!

Alecia (Allie) Beckett was once a quiet book worm, choosing to study in her room and keep to herself than to embrace the lifestyle which her step brother and his friends seemed to enjoy.... one minute she's a teenager without a care in the world, her father a wealthy business man, the next she's taken her sister and moved to New York, struggling to put her sister through school and keep them clothed and fed. Ryland Wyatt, didn't know how much he and his buddies changed the lives of Allie and her sister, he had no idea until his past transgressions made them become the centre of blackmail threats, suddenly his life becomes entwined with Allie's and things between them change, the more time they spend together... The chemistry between Allie and Ryland is explosive, they can't be with each other but they can't be apart.... they push each other and draw each other back in constantly, and just as you begin to think they've reached their HEA... there's a kidnapping!

Anyway as I said, this was a decent read, with a mystery, murder, drama and crazy lust filled moments! I can't wait to read the next books... not so much the Brazilian Heir, but I'm definitely looking forward to Theo and Karin's story! If you're considering this book, just dive in... and I hope it's as good for you as it was for me.

WOW, Arrogant by Drea Blackery, shocked me after I finally stopped procrastinating, I was surprised to find a 4.5-Star worthy read from this fairly new published author. The book begins proving these definitely arrogant, best friends ran their high school and had their way around town. Fast forward 10 years & Ryland & Allie find their paths have crossed again, their is no surprise these two have chemistry but has Ryland really changed after 10 years? Can Allie find any redeeming qualities in thid hot & sexy bad boy that women seem to easily fall for? Can Ryland get Allie out of his system after one time, like he plans or will Allie be too much for the bad boy Ryland? Will Allie be able to bring Ryland down to his knees & have this sexy, bad boy wrapped around her little finger? You will not be disappointed in Arrogant, Book 1 of the New York Heirs series so one-click and add this one to your Kindle library! The hot & sexy, yet annoyingly Arrogant, bad boys added to the deceit and backstabbing plus all the twists & turns in this one and outdown with the outrageous banter between Allie & Ryland that sometimes will have you laughing out loud, all together Arrogant by Drea Blackery is just one fantastic read that can be definitely recommended! I must also add that I look forward to and also recommend any other books in this series, currently Untamed & Broken are available, as well as any future book in this series! The relatively new author, Drea Blackery is certainly one to remember & look for in the future!

4.5 Star

And like Death, he came into my life and destroyed everything in his path, leaving nothing intact. The last thing he shattered was my heart. This is our story.

Lies, Betrayal , secrets and Heartbreak . This plot was fast paced and engaging. The characters were all so well developed, not only the main protagonists but the side characters too. I really enjoyed Ryland’s and Allie’s character and chemistry. Ryland was a bossy and arrogant jerk. Both the main protagonists knew each other when they were in high school and then they meet again after ten years.

I wanted him. There was no use denying it. I wanted this guy and all of his arrogance, his bossiness and his secrets. And if my pride stood in the way of having him, it had to go.

The dynamic between the two main protagonists was beautifully written and the story was very engaging. This is the first story I have read by this author. I hope there would be stories on other characters from this story too . Would definitely recommend this story.

In all honesty, I almost stopped reading this after the first couple of chapters. I know the point was to show how much of an a$$hole Ryland was in the beginning, but it was a little much. I wanted to punch him every time he opened his mouth. Then, I decided to read a few more chapters and give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. Ryland starts changing gradually for the better, and the relationship between he and Allie is steamy. This ended up being a really good book. I like the writing style of the author, and enjoyed the way the story played out. The plot line that is secondary to their relationship adds a little extra spice and tension to the mix. The book packs a punch with lots of feels, so much stream and a great HEA. Overall, this is absolutely worth reading, and I know I'll read it again. I can't wait to see who is up next in the series!

More Than He Expected!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I confess that I struggled to read how awful Ryland was during the first few chapters. He was so awful I didn't see how I could possibly like him even by the end of the book, but I do! There are so many issues that he has in this really good book by Drea Blackery. Drea is a new author to me but I will certainly be looking for more of her stories after reading this one. However, his character does develop and change, all for the better I hasten to add, as the story progresses. Allie's influence on him was not expected by me at all and it was wonderful to see how he reacted to her. Their story going back 10 years was fascinating and with the twists and turns within the story ands the full blown chemistry between the two made for a really steamy romance that I'm pleased that I stuck with the story. Looking forward to her next story.
DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED

Arrogant is the first book in the New York Heirs series. Its a stand alone Contemporary romance with a billionaire bad boy/enemies to lovers trope. This book has alternating POVs, lots of angst and drama, hot sex, secrets and betrayal. The hero is a top notch a-hole that comes down a peg or 2 when he reconnects with his other half and the book has tons of errors...

Allie: Ryland Wyatt is the heir to real estate billions. He's one of the rich hellions that run my hometown and high school. I stayed far away from all of them. After my father died I took my sister to New York and started over. Now Ryland is here too, he needs my help and has a secret he wants to share with me.
Ryland Wyatt may be a rich and powerful man but when we butt heads, sparks fly and I can't resist the flame...

Ryland: I'm used to getting what I want and I want Allie Beckett. Allie Cat is a loner, smart as a whip and stubborn to boot. She avoided me ten years ago, she's also forbidden, but it doesn’t matter that I took part in destroying her life because she will be in my bed soon. Once I get what I want, then I will walk away.
When we are together we combust. Will we go down in flames before we even begin? I may be Arrogant but Allie takes me to my knees.

Loved, loved, loved Rylan and Allie. I was immediately pulled into their story and remained engaged all the way thru the Epilogue. The subtle twists and turns of the story that spans ten years was wonderfully written with great romantic, funny, and yes, sociopath characters. It was a pleasure watching the changes in Rylan when I thought that could never happen. This author showed clever writing skills on making that transformation.
I highly recommend this book for your reading pleasure. I know once you start you won't be able to stop. Enjoy!

This story has got it all. It is well written with a great storyline and plot. The characters are well described and they develop nicely through the story.
It has betrayal, drama, lies, blackmail, trust issues, manipulating other and family issues. It is a rollercoaster of emotions. The twists and turns makes you sit on the edge to read on. It is captivating and I read it in one sitting.
Sometimes I was so furious I just wanted to scream at the male character and his friends. They are really cruel at times but luckily people can change. They heroin struggle with a lot of this also financially. Can she get through the layers of the hero and get the real him out?
Enjoyable read.

This book was ok.

This reminded me of Vicious by L.J Shen. Four friends. All of them wealthy and mean. There were incomplete sentences and missing words. You had to re-read the sentences to make sure you understood it. Allie and Karin had been through a lot and for them to forgive Ryland was unexpected. Ryland was so mean and always wanted more. Some things in the book were dropped and that didn't make sense. Like the issues between Ryland and his dad. The press conference that never happened. Allie going or not going to college. He eventually fell for her and that was great but Ryland and friends were horrible as teenagers and young adults.

this book had so much potential but it wasn’t flushed out, the dialogue was flat, and the characters were shit. allie and ryland could’ve been such an interesting couple but they have no chemistry whatsoever. both also make it known that their words don’t match up with their actions making them beyond contradicting. allie are you not embarrassed trying to seduce an asshole. this book was also vv simlair vicious so that’s something
