One of the phrases repeated throughout this book is “You don’t know what you don’t know.” Now, after reading this book, I can say that I know a little bit more than when I started the book.
And I still have more to learn, which means I’ll probably have to re-read this a couple more times. I made lots of notes and highlights to review as well.
This is a good book for those looking to learn more about buying and selling businesses.
You might consider small business finances and valuation to be pretty dry reading, but Terry has written an entertaining look at what makes a business attractive when a buyer looks at it. It's a quick read for a serious book, but worth every minute and one you'll probably come back to from time to time as a refresher.
So little is know about how to sell an existing business and this provides a real, behind the scenes view of how the process actually works. This book takes you behind the scenes revealing what actually happens. It provides excellent guidance on how a business seller will need to position their business, the people they will need to work with and many of the pitfalls to watch out for. The authors experience is incredibly relevant and the book is very easy to read. Highly recommend it for anyone who is interested in either buying or selling a company.
