Baby, it’s cold outside, and no one needs an escape more than Mandy, whose well-meaning family members simply must know when the newlyweds will be starting a family. Midnight feedings and teething rings will have to wait, though, while the Rowlings solve their latest case.
A chance rescue of a kidnapped child and the mutterings of a hypnotized game show contestant draw the stars of USCAB into the 5-year-old mystery of three missing girls. All they need is a hot lead in this cold case, but as the suspects pile up, so do Mandy’s fertility worries.
Will they solve the mystery? Maybe, baby. Find out the answer in this 12th escapade in the Manhattan Mystery Series.
Dial W for Wicked is part of the Paranormal in Manhattan Mystery series. If you like fast-paced mysteries full of quirky characters and unexpected twists, you're gonna love this book.
Dial W for Wicked by Lotta Smith was a fun, quick and easy read with a surprising twist in Mandy's paranormal abilities.
Mandy, Rick and Jackie are back and enjoying a day out when on the way home Mandy hears the voice of a child asking for help. The twist for Mandy is that this child is alive. How they rescue the child is outrageous and hilarious but it works. This fast paced plot will keep you turning the pages as Rick, Mandy and Jackie are on the hunt for a killer and 3 missing girls. In the epilogue we see a new life for Mandy and Rick opening up; and I'm excited to see how this new development in their relationship will effect their sleuthing.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. All of the above opinions are my own.
While watching a television program with his wife, Darren Fender hears a person under hypnosis mention the names of three young girls who had disappeared 5 years earlier. Darren, who is a now famous author, had been a police officer working the case in Berkshire at the time the girls disappeared.
While driving home from work one evening, no matter which way Rick & Mandy turn, they keep coming back to the same building. Then when Mandy starts hearing a young girl's cry for help, they know they have to investigate. After rescuing the young girl, Mandy realizes that this was the first time she was able to hear the mental plea from a living being.
Following the news report detailing the finding of the captive girl, Darren approaches USCAB for help in locating the three missing girls. The first step in the investigation is to visit the studio where the program was televised. The producer for that program turns out to be an old school friend of Rick's and the hypnotist was said to be "just an actor".
Can Rick and Mandy discover what happened to the girls? Who was responsible for their disappearance?
This book focuses more on Rick and Mandy's romantic life than previous books, but still has plenty of twists and surprises.
This series is always a sure thing for a good mystery and plenty of laughs. The author does a great job of interacting with ghosts and real people and making it seem as realistic as possible. I love the humor, whether it’s Jackie and her outfits, Rick and his no filter mouth or Mandy, who is a great lady and a tad clumsy.
We join Mandy, Rick and Jackie at a family gathering where Mandy's family is bugging them about when they are going to have a baby. This just has Mandy more upset because she's been wondering if there's something wrong with her... On their way home Mandy hears a little girl beg them not to leave her. They seem to continue to go around and around in circles and realize that she's heard a live girls wish and they rescue her in the most exciting way. They are visited by an author who wants them to investigate a TV show that a contestant mentioned the name of three missing girls. I received an advance copy of the book in exchange for an honest review
While watching a 'reality show' on TV with his wife, Darren Fender, popular crime fiction writer hears something that sends chills down to his bone! The person on TV, a man, gives the names of three missing girls from years ago....the correct names in the order they disappeared! Darren can't believe it. He was a police detective then and the girls were never found. Luke Winston is the man that said he used to date the girls before he was married. Is he the killer? Darren hires Mandy and Rick to find out if it is true. When they talk to Luke without hypnosis he doesn't know who the girls are and never heard of them. They go back to the TV studio where the show was taped, and they notice it is very cold in only that part of the studio. Mandy hears the girls call for help. Then there is Mandy worried about not being able to get pregnant. But first they must find the answer to the missing girls. You won't believe the outcome! I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. The review is my own opinion.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest and voluntary review. I would recommend this book to everyone I know. I love Many, Rick and Jackie. This book we find rick and Mandy married and being hounded by her family for a grand baby setting her emotions off that she could be barren because her grandma says in her day and age they were pregnant soon after marriage or before. So while trying to get pregnant her, rick and Jackie go to the beach for the day and on the way home Mandy is sleepy and she hears someone calling her to not leave her behind well needless to say they save a little girl that has been missing for seven months. They get a lot of publicity leading to a new case involving an old friend of Rick's and then they solve the case and she goes to the fertility doctor to find out she is pregnant and I don't know who is more excited Jackie or Rick but I can't wait to see what they have a boy or girl or both.
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader’s copy of this book. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This was a great read. I love to read about Mandy and Rick and of course Jackie. I love to read about their adventures and see how they solve their mysteries. It will draw you in and you have to see what happens next. Always a good read. Can't wait for their next adventure.
I just love this series and this is another great addition! From Mandy who can hear ghosts and her wonderful husband who believes her to her drag queen BFF ghost, the characters are so much fun. Story line made me not want to put it down until I was done!
Mandy, who can talk to ghosts and her husband Rick, along with Jackie (a ghost) are asked to solve a cold case about some missing girls. This is a great series. This book is a great blend of humor and drama. Another enjoyable book in this series.
ARC - I voluntarily offered to review this book with no obligations and my opinions are hones In the book, Mandy is still seeing ghost, but now, she is also hearing spirits. That is right! Mandy acquired a new power, or is her power expanding? Besides solving another case, she also has to contend w/ all of this baby talk. Or is it only on her mind? Is she supposed to be pregnant already ? Who is to know? Rick is not worried at all. If that is the case, he is just as content is it is just the two of them. Mandy is so glad that she has a case to preoccupy her mind. Will Mandy solve the case? Will Many become pregnant ? You are going to have to read the book to find out. Another great addition to the series. I loved the storytelling + the characters
This series is so much fun and a pleasure to read. The basic storyline is original and each new book only strengthens the whole. The characters are unique from Mandy an ex-medical student that can kill a killer by shaking their han, to Jackie her ghostly buddy, her self proclaimed guardian angel and a drag queen with a boisterous personality, to Mandy’s husband Rick - handsome, sexy, rich and madly in love with his wife.
Mandy has always been able to hear ghosts that reach out to her or those she tries to help. But this time she hears the voice of a child that has been abducted and is still alive. Unfortunately other children that call out to her are not. How she and Rick catch the abductor will keep you on the edge of your seat.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a review.
I cannot stress it enough: such fun! A good mystery and quirky characters (<3 Jackie the ghost of a drag queen!), what more do you want? A quick, fast-paced read. Some things are a bit different than usual, which made for some surprising moments.
If you’re familiar with Lotta Smith’s work, then you already know what to expect. If you’re not familiar with her work, then I suggest you start today!
I’ve been reading this series and filling in the one I missed initially, then the ones that are new. This is a series that is so much fun to marathon read, that I just have to share them as a group!
I caught up on #3 Wicked Little Secret, which came out in October of 2016. In this one, the ghosts get nasty. One takes over Mandy, which she decides she doesn’t like at all! Another one attacks her with a bookcase, and Rick gets banged up saving her. The sleuthing duo solves the case by using their heads and find the stolen art not far from the starting point. Rick steals kisses throughout! They are such a cute couple and she still isn’t used to it. ✭✭✭✭⭑
Released in December of 2017, #11 Wicked in Wonderland: Strawberry Eclair Murder was a pretty good mystery as well as a good story, but I felt it fell apart a bit at the end. An artist of fairly set habits is stabbed in the back on her way home. Certain things are missing and certain things aren’t right about the circumstances of the body, but there are no ghosts involved. Mandy and Rick have to work this case because Kathy is very upset about this death. So, who is Kathy? Well, her father is Hernandez, the head of the FBI’s NYC office where Rick and Mandy used to work. And her mother is the Chief at NYPD. When these two call in favors, it’s impossible to say no. At least it’s good eating. ✭✭✭✭⭑
#12 Dial W for Wicked was released recently in February of 2018. It is a wonderful addition to this series. It’s a new approach by the ghosts this time. Mandy is hearing them calling to her for help! And they are little girls who’ve been missing for a long time. Mandy and Rick need a lot of help from Jackie in this case, but they crack it. Mandy has a super dramatic moment in here when she takes a white handkerchief and wipes blood off a glass wall. Then uses it later to get a confession. What a scene! The ending is news readers have been waiting for, but I won’t reveal it. Read the book and see. This is definitely a 5-star story! ✭✭✭✭✭
Just released on April 10, 2018, #13 Wicked Egg to Crack, is my current read and is already shaping up to be a worthy addition to the series. Mandy’s supposed to be taking it easy, but the company needs her help on a case of a Faberge egg! I can already recommend it!
Mandy, a former medical student, with paranormal abilities that enable her to speak with the dead, and her husband, Rick, along with Mandy's ghost guardian, Jackie, find themselves driving around the same building again and again. Mandy hears a young voice asking her to save her. They discover a young girl inside the building who had been missing for seven months. Mandy realizes this is the first time she has been able to hear someone who is alive. While Darren Fender, an author who was formerly a police officer, is watching a reality television show, he hears the names of three young girls who have been missing for five years. He calls upon Rick and Mandy to help him figure out the mystery of all he has seen. This was a great book that contained paranormal activities, romance and murder. If you like all of the above, you will love this book. I received and advanced copy of this book and this is my opinion.
There is a lot to like with this series (clearly, as I just finished reading Books 1 through 23 straight-through). They are not complex plots. There isn't a lot of suspense or danger. There isn't always a lot of paranormal for a paranormal cozy. Truly, this author needs to find a competent editor or proofreader or someone to fix all the very many errors in the text. That normally drives me insane, so that I read on regardless is a testament to my having become attached to the characters. I find myself thinking that something just doesn't make sense, the plot doesn't hold together, but then I get caught up in the character interactions and just carry on. I was not enthralled with the addition of an precocious (of course) small child, but I guess that was inevitable, and the child has a pretty good handle on not being heard much of the time. This is light fare. Would I spend $60 for the series? No. But on KU? A fun vacation (or quarantine) read.
Cont...mystery and crime solving couples rick and Mandy and their guardian ghost jackie. This series involving three young girls that went missing five yrs ago and the retired cop Darren ask for their help in solving the mystery that became a cold case which cause Darren to retired and became a writer, but the case was always on his mind. You will not be disappointed with this series also as the three investigate the crime. A must read with all the wicked paranormal series
Another fun mystery story to read that is well written, very entertaining and has strong characters. There are many twists and turns in this story before Mandy, Rick and her various helpers have a chance of solving it. This is a great addition to the series. I love it and highly recommend the book as well worth buying and reading. This is my honest opinion of an advanced reader copy.
Kid Ghosts and Typical Honeymoon Question, When Are The Kids Coming?
Great quick read. I can't put it down. Has humor, family interactions, ghost guardian, and a mystery to solve. Love the series and highly recommend you read all the books that can be read as a standalone. Please read.
Not a bad book, but not particularly a good one either. I felt that it stretched the paranormal bit a little too far. This thing about touching her hand and possibly dying was really carrying things too far. What is she, some kind of mythical monster? Although I give the author kudos for writing it, I doubt that I will read any other in this series. A little too far-fetched for me.
Love the series the characters are so real and you get involved with them in the plot. Never sure which way the twists are going to be turning. There is just the right amount of humor between the characters. It's the type of book you just can't put down!!💞💞
I love unexpected endings and that's what you get when reading Ms.Smith's comical para. mysters. You get to enjoy fabulous writing, zany characters and marvelous mysters as in this book.So pick it up,grab a snack and something to drink and a cozey place to relax and enjoy Dial W for Wicked.☺😀 Kat
It is hard to read about, lost or missing children. Three little girls, taken five years ago, may have a chance to be found. Mandy and Rick, just found one little girl who was abducted. Now they are on the hunt for the three missing girls. Meanwhile, Mandy's family is giving her grief, baby grief. Read and enjoy!
Three missing girls and a tv show contest, what could they possibly have in common? When under hypnosis the contestant speaks their names, he swears he doesn’t know them. Mandy and Rick and Jackie are on the case. Can they solve it? You won’t be able to put the story down.
I will definitely read more books in this series. Very quick read, entertaining, light and very likable characters! I would recommend if you want something that isn’t so deep and emotional
Has been so fun to read. Without being over the top goofy with paranormal issues, this has great characters and good mysteries. The plots are plausible ( despite talking to ghosts).
Wow! Super plot! Fantastic use of Parnormal power. Finding missing girls! Lots of drama and supernatural mayhem, along with many surprises. A great fun read. With ghosts and spirits leading the way, mysteries are solved.
