I stumbled upon the excerpts from the book in Economic Times and found it quite fascinating:

https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/...

I had some interviews coming up, so I decided to pick it up.

When I started reading it, I was blown away by its simplicity. The book starts with the description of top 4 selection factors mentioned in the et article. The rest is about how to score big on them.

The topic of interviews has been covered comprehensively with fresh perspectives.

Building from a chapter which has a worksheet on finding your aim, it imparts clarity on the basis of a career planning decision. I found it to be challenging at first, but there were plenty of examples in later chapters.

It then moves on to talk about the larger problem you are being paid to solve in an organization. Further, there is a chapter on the ideal context in which to work that is presented with anecdotes. The material till here is just the preparatory framework.

The tools mentioned in the book are as follows:
1. Drawing out KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) from a job description (with worksheet)
2. Using KPIs to create a resume (with exercise)
3. Forecasting future trends (with worksheet)
4. Tell me something about yourself (with worksheet)
5. Some notes on common interview questions
6. Simple note on salary negotiation
7. Note on building strengths
8. Personality and body language aimed at increasing congruence (with exercises)
9. Note on group discussion (with exercise)

One of the highlights for me was the job evaluation form mentioned at the end of the book. It seemed like all the worksheets and exercises till that point were to increase how one fares at that.

I applied for numerous openings and had 2 interviews lined up. After revamping my resume as per KPIs, I applied for more open positions and got 2 more interview calls with much less effort. I eventually ended up getting 2 job offers with 1 matching my salary expectation. The most fun part was I didn’t feel any debilitating nervousness that I am used to feeling before interviews. The body language exercises paid off.

The worksheets aren’t easy to fill. It takes a lot of reflection and research. But I think it’s worth it.

If you are a graduate or a post-graduate you should definitely pick it up!

This book is a page turner all because of the insights it gives you! The writing is tight, feels like a conversation not a monologue. Just because of the style of writing I could finish it in no time while I’m not much of a reader! Also because that it’s a workbook so you’re involved in the process hence you’ll finish it in no time.

All in all, It’s not just a book, it’s a workbook for job seekers, employers, freshers, people with corporate Experience et all
