I really enjoyed Green Lantern & Silver Surfer so I thought I’d try another one of these.

I like the cover giving ‘equivalent characters’ opposite each other, though pairing Spider-Man with Superboy seems weak.

“Issue #1” starts with Spider-Man swinging over Manhattan in his Ben Reilly costume (a favorite). He’s actually Ben Reilly this time (a favorite).

His Spider-Sense goes off when he sees a guy next to a glowing box that shoots Spider-Man with light and he disappears.

When recovers from being dizzy it’s suddenly raining and he meets the Joker. The Joker recognizes Spider-Man, but not the other way around. He does tell Spider-Man that he is in Gotham before leaving him his card.

In Westchester, Juggernaut, Wolverine, Gambit and Storm are fighting. Then Juggernaut disappears and appears at the Daily Planet. And gets punched.

Art is by Dan Jergens/Josef Rubinstein and Claudio Castellini/Paul Neary and is particularly good.

The man who was sitting by the box is still trying to duct tape it up to prevent more crossings. He’s not having much luck.

Captain America disappears while fighting Hydra.

Wonder Woman disappears while rescuing a cop.

Hulk disappears while gathering wood with his wife Betty.

Superboy disappears while showing off.

Lobo disappears while fighting.

Wolverine, Gambit and Storm disappears while explaining to Professor X what happened to Juggernaut.

Likewise Green Lantern, Elektra, Flash, Thor, Aquaman, Silver Surfer, Shazam, Sub-Mariner, Quicksilver, and Catwoman.

Bullseye is in the bat cave holding Robin hostage. He wants answers. Batman hits Bullseye harder than Daredevil. Then Robin disappears.

At the Daily Planet J. Jonah Jameson has taken over as the new publisher. Clark Kent starts writing a story on all the weirdness. Lois introduces Clark to a new photographer. Professional name, Peter Parker.

Even the Living Tribunal and Spectre are confused.

Well, it’s a nice start and the art is absolutely beautiful.

4 stars even though not much happens.

Coming right after the Batman and Spider-Man, and the Green Lantern and Silver Surfer crossovers, DC versus Marvel gives us an introduction to the great events that are going to alter both universes forever.

Heroes and villains, and civilians get displaced from one universe to the other one, and we get really good shots of DC heroes fighting Marvel villains, and vice versa.

It all boils down to a hobo and a shining box, that appears to hold both universes together, and once this box breaks, who knows what will happen to our heroes?
