Rate this book
Published in association with the Communist Party History Group. This book commemorates the 65th anniversary of the defeat of fascism in Europe. Whilst being a celebration of that victory it also issues a stark warning of the continuing dangers posed by fascism and the attempts to re-write history. It includes previous unpublished as well as many famous images (courtesy of the Marx Memorial Library's archives) that displacy Nazi atrocities across Europe and the heroic resistance of people in Britain and the rest of the world. 'When VE (Victory in Europe) day was celebrated on May 8 1945, the people of Europe swarmed into the streets to celebrate their first taste of freedom since 1939.Tyranny had been put to the sword but at a massive cost in destruction of communities and economic life. For many, especially in central and eastern Europe, born after the FirstWorldWar into economic depression and fascism, it was a novel first-ever taste of freedom. 'Today and tomorrow,we must continue to defend and advance the gains of 1945 and ensure that there is no going back.

A recommendable review on the successes occurred in Europe from the Spanish Civil war to the taking of nazi Berlin, including the connivance, and open support, of Chamberlain and his ministers towards Hitler and Mussolini's systematic human-rights abuses and what they did to Spain.

As a response on how many of these successes have been tried to be rewritten by modern history revisionism, this book serves as a factual relate of the Soviet advance and its vast contribution to people´s liberation along eastern-europe during WWII, confronted with the recent Prague Declaration that aims to condemn communism as a plain nazi-like mass-murderer totalitarian regime.
