I didn’t realize when I said that to my Navy SEAL buddy he’d actually collect on the debt. Or that it could cost me my life.
I'm Brent Hearst, for God's sake. A member of the one percent. As in old family money. Yet somehow I'm standing here, smiling while there’s a gun strapped to my leg ruining the line of my Italian suit.
But my real issue isn’t with that gun. Oh, no. It’s my other weapon I can’t control when I’m around the sexy-as-sin brunette who might or might not be a spy. It seems I don’t care which while I’ve got her against the wall with my hand fisted in her hair.
Oh, and while I figure out if I’ve been sleeping with the enemy, I’ve also got to keep us both from being killed by a couple of gun-toting Russians.
No problem.

It all started in first grade when Cat Johnson won the essay contest at Hawthorne Elementary School and got to ride in the Chief of Police's car in the Memorial Day Parade...and the rest, as they say, is history. As an adult, Cat generally tries to stay out of police cars and is thrilled to be writing for a living. She has been published under a different name in the Young Adult genre, but released her first romance in 2006.
Today, she is a NY Times & USA Today best-selling, award-winning author of contemporary romance. A promo ho, she's sponsored real live bull riding cowboys and promoted romance using bologna.
We all met Brent in the last Hot SEALs book - he needed Zane's help in a family matter.
Now it's Zane's turn to ask for Brent's help. He needs his old school buddy to use his family contacts to get into a charity party in the Hamptons - to keep his eyes on a Russian billionaire.
Brent is all excited - he feels like a little boy 007 with his ear piece and gun!
And then he meets Alexandra at that party. It's kinda insta lust and almost insta love. But of course it was too good to be true. Is Alex a really a Russian spy? Or is she fighting for the same side?
What is happening????
══════════════════════
That was adorable!
It was a James Bondy Rom-Com. Brent is so hilariously adorable with his new spy tech stuff and his code name. I can practically see Zane rolling his eyes on the other end of the ear piece everytime Brent talks like a bad TV cop! LOL! I almost pictured Mr. Bean in those moments - but of course Brent is so much prettier and smarter and cooler! I would LOVE to see this on TV one day!
But it's not all fun and games - the story is also very sexy and exciting and we just want poor Brent to end up happily ever after with Alex - but it'll take us a while to get to that happy end - if we'll get there at all!!!!
Great first book in this new series - READ IT!!!
Now I can't wait to read Tristan's book!!!! Hot British Ex-Spy!
If I had to find something that I didn't like all that much? I had the feeling that the love story part was a bit forgotten in all that spy stuff. I would've wanted Brent to figure her out sooner and then we could've fought the bad guys together sooner. Also - there are not really any bad guys. The whole spy stuff was a bit un-exciting. BUT, was mega exciting for Brent with his sexy codename and ear piece - and that was enough for this reader to be LOTSA entertained! ☺ It could've / should've been a bit longer with a bit more romance and falling in love moments.
If you have read Ms Johnson's GAPS SEAL series, you have met our main man Brent Hearst in the last book.
I liked him back then, and freaking adore him now.
I loved how he got dragged into SEAL stuff by Zane. He is so cute with his codenames and stumbling around in the spy world.
I was about 30% in when I deduced that our leading lady wasn't who she said she was, and strange things were afoot at the Circle K. It was just a matter of what she was up to!
Brent was like the bumbling, stumbling Johnny English version of the GAPS people - though that makes him sound like an idiot, and he is not. He is just so out of his comfort zone and it makes him even the more adorable.
There were plenty of twists and turns in this tale, and I couldn't put it down.
I look forward to seeing where this spin off series takes us.

Billionaire for Hire is a full-length standalone contemporary romance, the first in the For Hire series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cat Johnson. It is a loose spinoff from Cat Johnson's Hot SEALs series, with cameo appearances from favorite characters.
Wanna-be spy. He is actually compelled by a favor and friendship to pretend to be a spy. But like an average, everyday person, he’d screw it up by overdoing or by under-whelming acting ability and sheer naïveté. Just a good guy in over his head. A fun and often humorous spy novel. Scratch that. It’s a romance with tongue-in-cheek spy elements. Actually very cute. Recommend for a light and fast romantic read.
Brent’s thought up title for his adventure: hilarious.
I don't have any words for this book. If u want to read a book where the hero acts like a hormonal teenager and whines throughout the story then this is the book for u, otherwise there are better books to be read and much better ways to invest your time.
I didn't care for it very much. Alex and Brent may have had chemistry but that was about it. Maybe if we had heard her voice instead of all Brent it would have balanced out.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. It has been a while since I have read from Cat, and I have been missing her I do enjoy her books and I just added another one to the list with this one. So we have Brett that gets more than he was expecting when he is on a spy job, he meets and wants more of Alex. And those two were ready to start a fire with the sparks they set on, we had some laughs enough adventure and action to keep you interested but not bombarded, I could tell you more but I wont because I want you to grab a copy and as always my friends, Enjoy!
A dark twisted story with great storyline and plot. The characters are well described and they develop nicely through the story. The story flows well of the pages. I like the mix of drama, danger, steam, passion, emotions, hot alpha and darkness that makes the story worth the read and kept me on the edge just wanting to know what happens next. Worth the read!
Oh my goodness! What a fun spy story. Brent Hearst owes his college buddy Zane a favor. He just never expected to be thrown into Zane's work. Throw in a pretty girl named Alex and enjoy this fun story by Cat Johnson.
Though the story line was a little cheesy, and not helped by the narrators interpretation, I thought it was quite funny and cute. I liked it as a pallet cleanser. I only wish the rest of the series was available in audiobook format. That's the only way to read, is to listen.
Great summer started with this one and am already starting the second book. This is a spin off series from Cats SEAL books. However, you do not have to have a background of reading those books first. They are great to read and once you start you will be hooked!
I'm listening to the audio (the narrator alone does an excellent job acting out the story and I'm lovin' it!) and only at chapter 6, but I'm hooked into the story already - giggling, intrigued, Zane!, being in Brent's head, the anticipation of what's coming next - and I can't wait to see where we go next!
**** I grabbed this audio book because the blurb and these two comments captured my attention: "A fun and often humorous spy novel. Scratch that. It’s a romance with tongue-in-cheek spy elements...hilarious." Madison "a James Bondy Rom-Com... I would LOVE to see this on TV one day!" BJ's Book Blog
I was wanting something a bit more light-hearted rom-com than what I usually go for, and this seemed to fit the bill. And it totally delivered!
And now that I finished.... I giggled through so much of the story that that fact alone made this a great read (listen). Getting to see a spec ops mission from a non-spec ops point of view was hilarious! There were some sweet moments mixed in with some rollercoaster emotion rides (I mean, being a billionaire dude doesn't leave you exempt from a bit of heartbreak and worries, ya know), and charm with a whole lot of laughs - whether intentional or not.
This is a great story! So glad I found it and got a day full of giggles listening to it (along with a clean house! lol)
When billionaire Brent is asked by his old friend, former Navy SEAL, Zane, for a favor, he can't say no. He didn't realize that favor would have him playing James Bond and meeting a woman he could (definitely would) fall in love with.
Honestly, Brent was the very best part of Billionaire for Hire. He was so cute and funny, with his fumbling around, wanna-be spy antics, making up a codename for himself, geeking out over the technology and the process of it all. I absolutely adored him. Alexandra was a great foil for him, but she honestly could have been anyone for all I cared about or remembered her. Brent is the absolute star here, no doubt. I am definitely looking forward to more of him, more of this series.

This story was included in “Recipe for Danger: A Collection of Military Romantic Suspense Books”. I almost skipped it, as I am so over stories about Billionaires and how they act as though they are the only ones that can bring ecstasy to a woman. Like a Blue Collar worker couldn’t possibly be good in bed! Well this story, has very little to do with the main character, Brent, being a billionaire. Furthermore, in the first scene between the sheets, it is Alex doing all the controlling and Brent is just along for the ride! The book also isn’t about the military, though the main supporting character, Zane, was a former Navy Seal. So everything about this story was a surprise to me. It’s a clever plot and would make an entertaining romantic comedy movie.
Ever wished that you'd never said to a supposed friend that you owed them?? Well Brent has learned his lesson now since Zane called him on that favour. Brent is an unusual billionaire hero -ex-Navy SEAL, got a sense of humour and a bit quirky at times. He certainly never expected top meet Alex - Zane's new client, that Brent has to protect, but it it from himself? I really enjoy Cat Johnson's stories and this is no different. A great start to a new series. I look forward to reading more. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. Definitely recommended
Brent Hearst asked Zane for help once and today, he will pay his debt. He has been asked to keep an eye on a Russian billionaire and report back any suspicious activity. Alex is there as a volunteer, and she has caught the eye of Brent. She has a purpose for being there too. She keeps a careful eye on Brent, but he doesn’t understand why. Why is she giving him all the strange and suspicious looks? This was a quick read and a great story. The chemistry between Brent and Alex was off the charts, this pair steams it up between the sheets! Check this story out, it’s the first in a new spin off series!
Audiobook version. An easy, fun listen. Billionaire Brent owes Zane a favour which Zane calls in by way of Brent doing a bit of uncover work for him at an uppercrust event. Quirky Brent indulges in all his James Bond fantasies while helping out. He meets sexy student Alex at the party and is immediately smitten but is Alex everything she seems? Tension, fun and games follow with Russian spies, British spies gun toting Russians. Alex may be the enemy but Brent can't keep his hands off her. Love the interaction between Brent and Zane and enjoyed the fact the story is told entirely from Brents POV. Alround a relaxing enjoyable well narrated listen!
Talk about being a fish out of water. Brent is a Billionaire but when Zane comes collecting and IOU, he doesn't know what he is supposed to do. Although he feels comfortable at high profile charity events, Zane need him to get into this specific one at the last minute using his family name and just keep an eye on this particular Russian. When he checks in to the event, he meets Alex who he finds out later (after sleeping with her) that she may be a spy. Can he keep his cool while he finds out if she is actually a spy and if she is working for the good guys or the bad guys?
It is fun to watch Brent flounder around trying to be a spy when he has no idea what he is doing or looking for.
This is a wonderful quick read . Cat at her best. Eat your heart out James Bond . It also has my favourite guy making an appearance Zane Alexander. Brent is old money, owing Zane a favour. Using his family name he becomes a spy for him. Follow his antics as he tries to help his friend and use his charm on a certain female he cant ignore . Action, adventure, romance, and quite funny. Cat Johnson new series based loosely on her Hot SEALs is a marvellous addition with the second one already out in Sirens of SaSS anthology.
I really enjoyed reading this story. There were parts in it where I chuckled, worried, became angry and felt sad. The author was able to involved me wholly in the story. I was hooked from beginning to end. The story was well written and flowed logically. The characters were likeable and even a bit over imaginative at times (hence the chuckles). I was happy that the characters were able to overcome their issues to find their happy ever after. Watch out for a bit of a cliff hanger at the end.

What happens when your friend needs you to spy or watch over someone unknowingly? You psyche yourself up to being James Bond on an undercover mission and give yourself the codename Rosebud or that is at least what billionaire, Brent does. Until he falls for the charm of Alexandra and then learns her secret which leads to a feeling of betrayal he's not to keen on.
This story is told in Brent's POV and to find out what happens between Brent and Alex during their spy games read the book.

Zane has helped Brent in the past so when Zane needs his help there is no way he can refuse even though he is more used to hiring security than being security. When he is sent to a fundraiser to keep an eye on a client because he would fit in he wasn’t expecting Alex.
Alex need to remain focused on the task she was sent to complete and that means ignoring the attraction she has for Zane at least until she knows what his agenda is.
Humor, hijinks and romance abound in Brent’s and Alex’s adventure. I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
I loved this book and can't wait for the next installment. Cat Johnson does not disappoint. Brent is asked by his buddy for the favour he owes which leaves Brent playing 007 which he loves. When Brent meets Alex it is insta lust/love only Brent can't work out whether Alex is a spy or if she is fighting for the same side. Can Brent keep them both alive from the Russians that are after them. This book has Suspense, hilarity and plenty of steam to keep you reading until the end. Well worth reading

This book took the Tristan/Brent/Chelsea story line full circle. Even though this is actually the first book in this trilogy, I read it last. Billionaire Brent Hearst is put in a position by GAPS owner Zane that he is unprepared to handle. This book explores how he needs to stay in his lane as a rich publisher and leave the spy action to the trained professionals. This was a good read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. The story is well written with great characters and a pretty fun read. I thought that the author did a great job of creating a character who is like a little child playing a game of make believe which becomes all to real in Brent. That alone made the book a great read. Add in a little drama with the character of Alexandra, who might or might not be a spy and you have a winner.
This book was just alright, and quickly turned unbelievable when we were expected to believe security expert Zane Alexander would turn his friend Brent Hearst into a spy after a day at the firing range. And of course there was the question of the heroine - is she a spy or isn't she?
Then there was this authors real hard-on for using every possible version of the name (Zane) Alexander - Alexandra (Jones) - Alexey (Mordashov) - Alexandria (Apartments). It became ridiculously excessive.
This was my first Cat Johnson book. Usually it is the civilian female character that is thrown into unfamiliar territory; it was nice to see the alpha male clueless and outside his comfort zone for once. I found the story well-paced and liked the characters. Great book!

This is such a sexy and fun read! A entertaining storyline, enjoyable characters, sizzling chemistry and lots of action and excitement come together into a truly pleasurable read. Brent and Alex strike plenty of sparks as the twists and turns keep you guessing. An excellent book. This is my voluntary, honest review.
I love this contraption of the Seal series as it bring back old characters and introduces new ones. Zane asks is old college buddy Brent for a favour and Brent knowing he owes Zane agrees to help. There are great twist and turns which makes for a very entertaining read.
