FROM BESTSELLING GAY ROMANCE AUTHOR SAMANTHA CAYTO

Book one in the Alien Blood Wars series

What lurks in the dark is not always a monster. Sometimes it’s your deepest desire.

A thousand years ago, Alex captained an alien ship that crashed on Earth. Stranded, he has tried to keep his men together while forging a new life. He’s locked into a never-ending war with mutinous crewmembers that makes unsuspecting humans collateral damage. That humans mistake them as vampires is all to the good. Humans are still not ready to learn aliens live among them. Alex has finally found some peace running a private club, but the memories of a human, loved and lost, keeps him alone.

Quinn Cooper was kicked out of his family when he came out as gay. Having travelled to Boston, he takes a job in Alex’s club. His boss and the men around him are large, scary and hard to ignore—as is his instant attraction to Alex. Becoming involved with the boss is always tricky. There’s something about Alex, however, that’s too sexy and compelling to ignore.

Knowing that seducing the vulnerable and virginal Quinn is a bad idea, Alex tries to keep his distance. He’s also trying to protect the boy and everyone else when the traitorous crew once more stirs up trouble. Alex’s and Quinn’s growing attraction leads Quinn closer to the frightening truth of whose bed he shares, while putting him in unfathomable harm’s way. Alex has to find a path forward to end the alien war for good or risk losing another love.

This is so much different from my usual Cayto books. First of all, everyone knows that Samantha Cayto knows her smut. 😁 She hands down writes one of the best shifter romance books out there. 👍 But then again, her stories always have that touch of the element of surprise. 😊 While being quite different and innovative from her usual books, this one surprised me very pleasantly. The world building is vast and possibilities are endless. And I’m ready for a whole new world that Cayto is going to introduce us. 😌

Captain Alex, an alien, the captain of the spaceship that crashed on earth a thousand years ago. Being a newly promoted captain and having your first spaceship crashed is definitely not good on the resume. 😁 But what good is that since no one has come to rescue them over a millennia. Alex and his crew have no choice but to adapt and blend themselves with the native humans. And despite his best efforts, he wasn’t able to unite his crew under his command anymore. Now there are two alien groups on each side of the world under different commands. One’s evil and plotting the destroy the world while one is being the protector of the mankind. So it’s not a brainer that a pretty and vulnerable virgin boy has no room for Alex’s already VERY complicated life.

Quinn, a 18 years old virgin boy from Midwest who got kicked out of his home when his parents found out that he’s gay. Being a go-go boy at this famous club “Lux” in Boston is his Quinn’s last straw. His only other option is to sell himself on the streets. 😭 He simply wanted to save some money and have a stable life. But when he saw the boss who interviewed him to work in his club, Quinn fell hopelessly in love. Opposites do attract. 😉 That huge bulging prime of a man tugged Quinn’s nerves that he didn’t know existed on his body. 😁 But Alex is not who Quinn thought he is. The guy is mysterious, secretive and attractive as hell. And it’s up to Quinn to not only reveal Alex’s heart but also his past. 😌

Alex has got enough lessons with being attached to the humans he protects. His life is just better off alone. But he’s ridiculously and unreasonably attracted to Quinn. That vulnerable, innocent virgin spiked his innate need to protect the young and vulnerable. ☺️ His life is already complicated with a thousand years old war and he doesn’t wanna drag Quinn into all this mess. But that gullible virgin with big, innocent eyes has found a way to sneak into his heart. Now Alex has to fight with all his might to protect his one, true love and the mankind.

Usually, Samantha Cayto’s first books in the series are quite short but this one is relatively long and the world building is very vivid and explicit. MCs are also really interesting and likable. There’s so much going on but Cayto was able to navigate and trail a storyline that focused on our two MCs. 👏 I also want to know more about the history of this blood war and Alex’s family members. And as always, the smut is hot! 😏 I love the huge size difference between Alex and Quinn. 😁 I’m very happy to share that I saw the second book  in the series coming out in a few days. Yayy! 😊 I think Alex’s nemesis Dracul’s consort is one of the most interesting side characters in the story. I hope to see more of him in the future and he’d hopefully get a HEA of his own. 😌 Anyhow, a very good and promising book to an intriguing new series. As always, a job well done [author: Samantha Cayto. 👏

Favorite excerpts from the novel: 💙

But this boy was almost irresistible, the perfect embodiment of everything Alex loved in his unwitting planetary hosts—delicate, pale beauty. He was so unlike Alex’s own species and his fair hair was both exotic and silky. The human smelled so sweet, too. Laying him down, Alex took in a deep breath and savored it. Delectable. Like a meadow after a spring rain.

The whole point of having a Master is to simply obey. It’s liberating in its own way.”

I am the first. It seemed both impossible, yet just as obvious, that no one had ever even kissed this beautiful boy. How sad and how irresistible that realization made him. Alex wanted to go where no man had been allowed before.

It was almost liberating and very arousing to be under a strong man’s control.

sex with the wrong person is way worse than no sex at all.

There was something so intoxicating about being someone’s first.

Even if the man was some kind of monster, at least he seemed to be his.

“Don’t worry. My love is not contingent on your giving me sons, and I will be grateful for whatever time we have together.”

“I don’t want a war. I just want to be with you.”

May 2018: Read sample. Nope. Moving on.

Jan 2020: Read sample, decided to read the book. Don't ask because I just don't know. Feels like an MF bodice ripper. We'll see how far I get. 😄

Most times, I enjoy the beginning of a romance book more than the ending. But not with this one. It took a while to become immersed. I didn't fully connect with the story in Blood Dance until 20% into the book. From that point on though, I couldn't put it away and finished it almost in one sitting! My expectations raised by the blurb were high, and although there are aliens in the story this book didn't quite feel like sci-fi to me. More like urban fantasy and erotic romantic suspense, but good! I'm a huge Cayto fan, and lovelovelove her Rougue Pack and Alien Slave Master series. Even though I liked this one a lot and absolutely look forward to read the sequel, it didn't quite manage to reach the hights of those other series for me. But I sure do want more!

5 Guilty Pleasure Stars

Samantha Cayto is my go-to guilty pleasure author, and I always look forward to reading her books.

Blood Dance is the first installment in the Alien Blood Wars series, and I couldn't put it down. I could easily see where the author took inspiration from other influences, yet managed to make an intriguing and original universe for her newest series.

In a noncomplex fashion, the world-building and romance seemed to be on equal footing, lending to the easy flowing and addictive storyline. Generally, during the first book of a new series, the readers is subject to many info-dumps to explain the world-building. However, Cayto managed to release a steady stream of information in an organic manner.

Vampire lore combined with alien lifeforms, set in the human world, with the added bonus of a BDSM sex club settings. In her past series, the focus was more sex-driven, but I was happy to see that the author concentrated on the plot, the world-building, and the relationships between the narrators and the side characters, while setting up what's to come. Waiting created a scorching hot, push-pull, tension-filled payoff when the narrators finally 'went' there.

There is a ton of potential for subsequent books.

Kicked out of his home in Michigan, by parents who were too narrow-minded to accept a gay son, even though he's still a virgin, Quinn is homeless and slowly spiraling downward to willingly doing whatever he can to survive. He applies for a go-go boy position, and gets a lot more than he bargained for. Naive, sweet, trusting, and in need comfort and support.

As their leader, Alex has kept himself apart, especially from the fragile humans. He's moralistic, seeing himself as a protector, and has found a home in Boston. When they crashed landed, Alex's subordinates fractured off into two factions. Dracul will not rest in his plan for global domination, thinking the humans are beneath him.

As Alex and Quinn traverse their budding romance, a serial killer drops dead bodies on their doorstep. Romance, sex, mystery, politics, cops, added with alien and human world-building.

*There is an MPreg thread, which I have never read before. Since it doesn't influence these narrators, the ins and outs were not shown.

The major reason why I quickly passed out a 5-star rating is simple, I wanted to get my hands on the next before I even read 'the end' of Blood Dance.

Now here’s an interesting concept – aliens who landed on Earth almost a thousand years ago, with no place to go, and ending up having to settle on a planet that is far more primitive than their stage of technology. But that is not the thing that fascinated me most – the aliens are exactly like vampires, except for the hint of living in a hive and an absent queen. They have the strength and speed of vampires, their arrogance (at least most of them), the ability to command humans, they have an extremely long lifespan, and they can and do live on blood of various kinds. Add the fact that the crew is split into those who believe they should blend in and treat humans like the sentient beings they are on the one hand, and those who believe it is their “right” to treat humans like food on the other, and you have a premade conflict that promises an interesting story.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

Blood Dance ushers in a whole new race and world setting that is sure to evolve as the series continues on. In this first novel, we get just the basic groundwork about the hive existence Alex and his men came from and an introduction to their super powers. We also get little snippets of the fallout from their previous clashes with Dracul and a clear look at how disturbed and violent a leader he is for those who followed him. It is obvious by the end of this story there is a major battle brewing, yet there is no cliffhanger here. One could easily leave the series behind at this point or continue on as Blood Dance is a fairly complete story within itself.

This was a nice combination of some tried & true "vampire" novels. Reminding me of one of my old favorite series, The Breed, these vamps aren't truly vampires but aliens. There's some weird twists, as they can make their male lovers able to carry offspring!! All this based in a Boston BDSM club with go go boy entertainment.
Quinn, who just turned 18 and was kicked out of his house for coming out as gay, moves to Boston. Trying to survive on his own he answers a help wanted ad for a Go Go Dancer at a club. Meeting Alex, the boss, who is big, dark haired and gorgeous; Quinn finds himself entranced by Alex right from the first meeting. Alex thought he gave up his weakness for humans a long time ago; as his old shipmate and sworn enemy used them as a bargaining chip to keep Alex in check. Falling for Quinn is the last thing Alex needs to be doing, but it's inevitable. He cant stay away.
There's somewhat of an age play dynamic as Quinn is barely 18 but looks much younger and Alex is ancient, literally. I think though, that's part of the allure of the story. The innocent Quinn being seduced by the much older Alex. The two men definitely have good chemistry! But, I was more intrigued by Alex's "brother" Val and his human submissive, Mackie!
A lot of action keeps the story moving well and some intriguing side characters such as human police officers & a homeless vet who lives behinds the dumpster set up the world nicely, well rounding the story and adding vulnerability to the fierce aliens living inside the club. If book 2 is Val's...I'm IN!

_____________

« Tu as, euh, des crocs. »

Adrian me traque depuis quelques jours. »

« Quoi ?

Pourquoi ? Pourquoi tue-t-il des gens et pourquoi me voulait-il ? »

Sweet romance. Skimpy world building with contradictions. Aliens too passive and reactive. Told, not shown, how villain had cause death and destruction.

2021 = 3.5 stars rounded up
2024 = DNF / rating lowered to 3 stars

Tall & muscular aliens/vampires and their much younger human twinks. They fall in insta-love and become mates. Lots of sex ensues. A villain and his henchmen cause problems.

2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣4️⃣
This time, the story and various threads weren't as enjoyable to read.

DISLIKES:
🔻 The multiple POVs, including Dracul the villain.

🔻 Dracul, the main villain of the series. I hated his POV and had to skim it. He brutally rapes and beats his twink mate. In this book, he sends his lackey, Adrian, to kill humans and stir up trouble. Adrian acts like a cartoonish villain—not scary and easily defeated.

🔻 The 9-book series weaves future and past MCs and storylines into each installment. I dislike this convoluted storytelling style, popularized by Black Dagger Brotherhood.

🔻 J.C. is used often as a swearword.

2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣1️⃣

While I enjoyed most of it, the story and characters need more development. Descriptions are minimal, and there's little world-building. We learn almost nothing about the Stelalux or their origins—only that they're hive-like and ruled by a queen. The ending feels rushed, with the villain killed off too quickly, which was disappointing.

Info Learned About the MCs:

Alex is the captain of the alien spaceship that crashed on Earth. Now, he owns a gay club. He drinks blood but still eats food. His pale skin is sensitive to sunlight, but he can go out during the day.

Quinn (18) was kicked out of his home before finishing school due to being gay. He became a go-go dancer and is considered a twink.

The Best Part: The MCs' relationship. Insta-attraction leads to insta-love. Quinn loses his virginity. The sex scenes are steamy and written well.

I plan on reading the next book. It'll be interesting to find out what happens with Val and Mackie. .

(After being added to KU, I read several books in the series before quitting it.)

I love Samantha Cayto’s books. I do. And this one was very well-written, as always. The sex was great. The plot was good and all that serial killer action kept it spicy and interesting. But, and unfortunately there’s a ‘but’, I did not like the main characters.

Why?

The alien-vampires sucked. They were arrogant and I felt it was unwarranted because the literal sunshine ☀️ could bake and kill their asses. I just got bored of talks of their physical and mental superiority to us mere humans. I mean werewolves are much cooler and stronger and still don’t act like the be-fucking-all-end-all. I was just annoyed at how they belittled mankind. I know they’re not real but still. There are 8 billion of us and it’s our planet, you’d be fucked if the poor little stupid humans catch wind of your existence.

Quinn had a brain cell and half. I was so annoyed at how he started worshiping Alex within two seconds of meeting him and thinking shit like: "Alex is so assertive and dominant and intimidating and everyone doesn’t stand a chance in front of him." even when he didn’t know that Alex was a bloodsucker. Like??? Honey, just because he makes you quake and cum in your G-string doesn’t mean everyone else does💀

After less than 24hrs after Alex fucked Quinn for the first time, he gave up on the money he gained from giving his clients lap dances because he wanted to be monogamous or some shit??? Baby, you’re broke as fuck. You’re in no position to give up precious money just to appease some guy you don’t even know when you could be back on the streets and penniless any moment.

Also, this: "I misspoke to explain Val’s behavior. We do love in our own way, but we also can set it aside when the situation demands it.” Val was such an ASSHOLE I can’t even. What do you do when you’re so scared a serial killing maniac with a vendetta against you would catch and kill your boyfriend???? YOU BREAK UP WITH HIM AND KICK HIM THE FUCK OUT. This is a thing that happened. And you call him a whiny whore, to get him to leave even though you know that he loves you and deep down feels insecure about shit and especially about whether or not you care about him because you "love in your own way".

Finally a quote from Trey Duncan, the local human cop.

Duncan took a long swallow before answering, “No, I’m doing it for Boston and for humanity. Do we have a deal?”

I have high hopes he only made a deal with them to catch them on camera looking like giant pale bats and to forward everything to Homeland Security.

Fucking annoying.

I will stick to my lovely, lovely omegaverses.

Glimpses of hope but plenty of pain

I had some differing feelings throughout this book as to whether I actually enjoyed it or not. It would have moments that caught interest and others that drove it away. For example, despite the warnings reading the scenes of rape happening to the man held by their enemy, Dracul, were very difficult. They felt unending and there was never any hope in sight for Dafydd and after those scenes I wouldn't want to keep reading. Or there would be angst scenes of Alex trying to figure out his emotions that dragged. At these times I wouldn't want to keep reading. Then there would be a scene of Quinn connecting with Mackie, or standing up for himself, or flirting, that would spark that interest. Things would move along in the wars and the risk to the boys would step up and it would be intriguing. The variation between this was so polarizing and I was never truly certain if I enjoyed the book. There is a pull there to see what else will happen, but the pervasive misery in the series may keep me away.

It's more like 3.5 really, the book itself - plot as well as the writing - is ok. There were just a couple things that seriously annouyed me, because they popped up throughout the book.
1. The author really liked using 'nevertheless'. Honestly nobody would really use that word when talking or thinking, it's just that kinda word you only use in an essay if you need more letters and was really unbelievable.
2. whenever you're in an alien POV and they curse ', as the humans would say' or something similiar is tacked on. The first time? somewhat funny, the second? okay, I stopped counting the fifth time in after about 60 pages. Really annoying. Like they're aliens, I kinda got that now, jesus.
3. There were words missing in sentences. Not really frequently, but often enough, that it still got on my nerves.
Okay so I know there was a fourth thing, but I kinda can't think of it now, so I'm just gonna add it, when I think of it.

A vampire like alien species crashed landed on earth a millennia ago. All male crew. As for their vampire like qualities: they are slightly sun sensitive therefore mostly nocturnal, they drink blood (in addition to food), they are long-lived, as well as faster & stronger than humans. No garlic or crosses or coffins.

There is also a non-vampire like nature to their species. Socially, they follow a hive like structure. More males than females, queen “bee”, and males have the ability to change gender for breeding.

Yes, I unwittingly stumbled into a malepreg universe. Ugh. All talk so far, but I’m afraid that won’t last as the series continues. And, yes, somehow through blood exchanges, their human partners become the breeding male. We meet two such breeding males & their sons.

Not sure if I’ll continue the series or not. Malepreg is just not my thing.

Aliens that are vampire like...they fostered the myth, though by choice or not is unknown..

I kind of lost respect for Alex once the My Dear boy (darling boy?) started showing up quite often. It just struck me as an unmacho thing to say.. continuously.. Like he's putting on 'airs'.

And, Adrian appeared to be described by Bad guy Dracul as kind of a nimwit but our bad ass guys couldn't track him... Well ok, can't be everywhere and do everything. As a start off foe, he kind of was lackluster for me.

Oh and as soon as they knew the war was rekindled, why would either Quinn (as soon as they come together even without the intention to turn it into a long time thing) or Mackie be allowed (allowed? hmpf) out without some kind of backup just in case?

So the world building and overall plot were interesting. I do have trouble with a 1000 year old guy being attracted to an 18 year old. There were some hard to read scenes with one of the secondary characters and wow a horrible, awful villain that I want to see chained up, tortured, starved... you get my drift. I'm going to continue this series even though I think the trend with very young MC's and very old vampires/aliens is going to continue.

Despite enjoying so many of Cayto's books, the blurb put me off getting around to reading this series because it sounded meh. Vampires and blood play: meh. Secret battles in urban setting: meh. Virginal ingenue: meh.

But turns out, there's so much I love!!! Gogo dancers! BDSM variety! Mpreg! Mackie! Dafydd! Duncan! Kitty!

Interesting twist on vampires/aliens

I enjoyed reading this book and its unique take on explaining vampires as a group of marooned aliens living on Earth. I liked that Quinn was wary of the truth, but not irrationally freaked out by it.

In the beginning I was very dissapointed I basically got vampires instead of aliens. But the plot was interesting enough to keep reading and I am looking forward to the next book, as the ending is a HFN....

I didn’t finish it. A strip club owner who also doesn’t like the fact that his boy is grabbed by others. Not very principled. So far away from the quality of Alien Slave Masters.

5 Guilty Pleasure Stars

Samantha Cayto is my go-to guilty pleasure author, and I always look forward to reading her books.

Blood Dance is the first installment in the Alien Blood Wars series, and I couldn't put it down. I could easily see where the author took inspiration from other influences yet managed to make an intriguing and original universe for her newest series.

Vampire lore combined with alien lifeforms, set in the human world, with the added bonus of a BDSM sex club setting.

He applies for a go-go boy position and gets a lot more than he bargained for. Naïve, sweet, trusting, and in need comfort and support.

This was a nice combination of some tried and true vampire novels. Reminding me of one of my old favorite series, The Breed, these vamps aren't truly vampires but aliens. There's some weird twists, as they can make their male lovers able to carry offspring!! All this based in a Boston BDSM club with go-go boy entertainment.

Quinn, who just turned 18 and was kicked out of his house for coming out as gay, moves to Boston. Trying to survive on his own, he answers a help wanted ad for a go-go dancer at a club. Meeting Alex, the boss, who is big, dark haired, and gorgeous, Quinn finds himself entranced by Alex right from the first meeting. Alex thought he gave up his weakness for humans a long time ago; as his old shipmate and sworn enemy used them as a bargaining chip to keep Alex in check. Falling for Quinn is the last thing Alex needs to be doing, but it's inevitable. He can’t stay away.

There's somewhat of an age play dynamic as Quinn is barely 18 but looks much younger and Alex is ancient, literally. I think though, that's part of the allure of the story. The innocent Quinn being seduced by the much older Alex. The two men definitely have good chemistry! But I was more intrigued by Alex's "brother" Val and his human submissive, Mackie!

A lot of action keeps the story moving well and some intriguing side characters, such as human police officers and a homeless vet who lives behinds the dumpster, set up the world nicely, well rounding the story and adding vulnerability to the fierce aliens living inside the club. If book two is Val's… I'm IN!
